****Gluten free options available and celiac friendly*** (as of June '26) This place is always moving! Such a great spot for lunch. Banana bread Latte was the star of our visit. Their Matchas were being consistently ordered. It shows they really thought through the flavors of their menu. The salad was fresh and delicious. The peri peri pork sandwich was salty, but fiance and was hungry. Parking is a hassle in this location. Despite the lack of, they are always moving with a line every few minutes. The line goes so quick with all of the staff members assisting, that you don't even wait too long. Certainly much faster if you order beverages and already made items like pastries, fridge items and their cyo bowls or side option if your looking to be in and out. Looking forward to our next lunch date here! read more

Wow! I highly recommend this place for the healthy dishes prepared with generous portions. The fancy variety of smoothies, specialty teas and coffees obviously a crowd favorite. Oh, expect a soho village style waitressing, and a decorum open and soft lighting. Come on down to experience read more

This has been our go to brunch place now. I really like their farmers omelette. My husband generally gets a burrito and their fresh squeeze juices are really good too. I also really like their coffee. The overall vibe of the place is really cool and we always have a good time. read more

I always enjoy the food here whether it's a bowl or a wrap I find myself typically deciding between one or the other. It's filling and a great healthy option. The inside is beautiful and spacious as well. It's on the pricer side for drinks but they make up for it. read more

Mercado - Chicken Caesar Wrap w Avocado & 16 Oz Strawberry Tart - American Near Me - Montclair, New Jersey

The food was phenomenal especially for vegetarians, however, food was on the pricier end. The coffee was outstanding and creamy. This place should consider a reservation system as the wait was long. The layout of the place was a bit odd. It was difficult to order as the menu is a bit confusing. read more

Love this place. We order from there often. Great sandwiches and the fries are awesome

This place is always mobbed. The salad is pretty good. It is not organic and the salmon is not wild caught which is disappointing, but healthier than your typical fast food. I opted for the chicken which was dry. The vibe is almost like a subway subs type of service where you go up to the counter and puck the things that you want on your salad. It is cafeteria style of service, and seating. It is a louder vibe due to it being crowded. The staff is always very nice. I opted to get my salad to go. read more

The scrambled eggs i ordered came with shells - seriously? unbelievable! I ordered chia pudding and it never came. The servers didn't even know where it was. Waited while i ate the eggs carefully but it never came. Walked to counter and the girl who took my order, points to premade containers of chia pudding. She couldn't even tell me to pick it up at the other counter or get it for me? Service sucks! Workers just standing around doing nothing. Food was ok. Nothing special and way over priced! First time trying this place and it will definitely be my last!!!!! read more

Mercado - Iced Pumpkin latte and pistachio latte 10/10 - American Near Me - Montclair, New Jersey

This place a really organized system of ordering and seating. The servers are kind and very attentive with their organization. The ambiance is clean, modern, and well maintained. The food however, I believe can use some work. The sandwich isn't terrible, the bread was however very covered in oil. The steak was well cooked, but could use more seasoning. The sandwich itself lacked flavor. The fries were average, no complaints there. I also ordered a chai latte (lost the photo). It was well presented but the flavor itself was odd. I've had plenty chai lattes, but this one lacked flavor. I wouldn't return here, nor do I recommend if you're used to flavorful foods. read more

Upon entrance seating was a bit weird . I had to ask a server if it was seating on your own which I was told yes to. It would've been nice if there was a sign. Service was decent you order your food at the counter and they bring it over if you order to eat in. Food was great the panini was filling and served as two meals for two different times. Chai was decent . I would go back. read more

We were able to find decent street parking. You seat yourself in this spot but maybe there should be a sign that says that? Fortunately we didn't wait long despite it being crowded and got a table pretty quick. Server came and cleaned it off quickly. Ordered at the counter and they brought the food and drinks to the table. We got the chicken and chorizo panini and I got their matcha with raspberry cold foam. My sister got their iced chai which looked good too. The sandwich was absolutely delicious and that alone would make me come back here again. The matcha was also tasty. Love the fresh look of the place and definitely great spot for lunch. Will be returning in the future to try other menu items. read more

Always fresh and always consistent. The items that you order today, will be prepared the same was ordered 3 weeks later.

This place can be very confusing the first few visits . There is a flow issue .I can't imagine what's like on a weekends . you kinda have to know what you want since you have to make a line for the food bar area and registers . The food is bought to your table . I sad outside , and almost fell off the concrete slab under my chair that was precariously at edge of the slab . The food was okay . The music is too loud inside you can't carry a conversation which is why i ate outside . The "ambiance " is school cafeteria meets fast food joint . The servers were pleasant . i recommend looking at their menu BEFORE you get there to abate being overwhelmed . read more

Mercado serves up excellent coffee, with high-quality beans and a well-executed roast that truly shines in their drinks and lattes. The flavors are rich and smooth, making it a great spot for coffee lovers. The food is just as impressive. I had the Cubano, which was perfectly executed with great balance and texture. While it's a café, it may not be the best place to study since the WiFi is turned off during peak hours. Parking is street-only, so plan accordingly. That said, I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu! read more

I'm done with this place. Have ordered a few times over the years and same experience every time. Ordered a turkey burger. Instead of a nice easy burger, some culinary genius figures it's his opportunity to make it the most fancy turkey burger of all time. Buries it in guacamole, tons of lettuce and tomatoes, and tons of pickles. Why? Did I order a salad? No, I ordered a burger. And the turkey burger itself of course had to be some fancy assed turkey burger that absolutely sucked. Damm. What a mess. Just don't get it. Maybe to justify the price this has to made this way. Everything there suffers from same issue. read more

Wanted to have a nice meal. So many servers standing around not one asked if we need it anything and the manager was so rude

The last time I tried to have breakfast at this place it was packed! Luckily this time around there were only a few patrons. The person who took my order was very friendly. I ordered a chai latte and the Mercado omelet. The chai latte was ok. It was milky more than anything else. The roasted potatoes and omelet were very good. I do wish the toast was warm. It arrived at the table cold. While I was still eating my breakfast one of the employees asked if I was done with one of the plates. I wasn't. She came back a few minutes later and asked the same question. This time around I said sure but only because I felt rushed. I should mention that I was there for less than 30 minutes. By the time I "finished" my breakfast the place was packed and getting louder by the minute. read more

The salmon, roasted Brussels sprouts and roasted sweet potatoes at Mercado was tasty. Nain and I ventured to Montclair to visit a friend who goes to Mercado every day. He lives nearby. Nain had a bowl of greens and grains and a coke and Rajender had a bowl of gazpacho that he found delicious. We both had a Cortado that was nicely priced at $3 unlike so many other places. We drank it while nibbling on a flaky almond tart and the famous Pastels de Nata. German (pronounced "xer'man") was a charming server who recognized Rajender as a daily customer. This three year old cafe restaurant is bright and has cheerful friendly employees with indoor and outdoor seating. There is a clean unisex restroom. Mercado closes at 4 pm. read more

I loved this place prior to the rebrand when it was Sandwich Theory and I still love the food though the 180 change in atmosphere took me by surprise. It's definitely frequented by a certain cast of the Montclair crowd.... Anyway, it's definitely a contender when debating where to get sandwiches and I love grabbing brunch there. I'm a grilled cheese girl, so I usually do a custom combination for that, but my companions love their other sandwiches. I've also tried their matcha and it passed the test--I'd like to try some of their other café items. Mercado is definitely a yummy spot for brunch and a chat, but seating gets scarce if you come during a brunch rush. read more

Excruciatingly loud. The walls reflect the sound and as a consequence the conversation level builds and builds until everyone is practically screaming. (Unless there are few people there). I like the food and would otherwise go often if it wasn't so loud. An acoustician can help. Putting absorptive materials on the walls would probably fix it. read more

Had lunch here yesterday. I love Montclair for all it's diverse restaurants and was so excited when this place opened. We got there around 12pm and the place was rocking. Please note- it does get loud inside so if you're looking for a nice quiet location, this one may not fit the bill. I'm a vegetarian and my friend has a bunch of dietary restrictions so it's always difficult for us to find a place that can accommodate us has some good tasting food. Well, we were in luck with Mercado. I had the tofu banh mi which was delicious and she had the harvest grain bowl. She only had to make one minor modification which was not an issue. Will definitely be back. read more

This was my first time visiting Mercado for a quick business meeting using outside seating. My smoked turkey panini was delicious. I loved the freshness of the apple and how it pairs nicely with the brie cheese. The turmeric cake was soft and moist. A solid choice. I love this restaurant and their food. The lunch dishes are always fresh and delicious. However, they really need to improve quality control during the dinner shift. Sometimes my husband picks up a Harvest Salad for dinner, but ingredients are missing. The first time, the spicy pumpkin seeds were missing, and last night the apple, spicy pumpkin seeds, and goat cheese were all missing. We live 30 minutes away, so we can't go back to fix the order. I truly love their food and don't want to be disappointed anymore. Please do a better job with consistency. read more

Mercado is in a bright, modern space and is serving up fresh, tasty eats for breakfast and lunch. We tried the Serrano pan con tomate (delicious!) and ham & Brie (one of my favorite sandwich combinations) and really enjoyed both. The Healthy Beet juice was refreshing and the Rice Krispie treat was pure homemade goodness. They have a really nice selection of baked goods- everything from scones to cookies to croissants. I would definitely come back here again and try more things - their bowls and breakfast selections sound too good to pass up! read more

I used to love this place, but recently I went and as you know it's first come first serve however, my family was asked to leave the table for another family when I asked why I was asked to leave they said it's first come first serve so I literally don't understand how that explanation works because clearly if I was asked to leave the table because I was there first ! The proceeded to ask if I had ordered and while our food wasn't ready yet there indeed was an order being placed as we were being asked to get up. went ahead and left because it became clear it wasn't an issue about being first or ordering. Keep in mind they don't have a hostess nor a sign that states you'll be sea by the staff. This treatment of being seated by someone was specifically to this family. read more

Food is good. Seating is a zoo. Free for all. Theyll take orders even when seating full.

The OWNER is racist..... today while going to this establishment I was treated horrific. I was trying to place an order but couldn't figure out where I needed to order. As I asked for assistance after standing on the wrong line for 20 mins I began to get accosted by the owner for asking for help and where the line was to order . I decided to just ignore him as I didn't know he was the owner. When I finally got to the correct line to order and the sever was taking my order the owner proceeded to tell them not to serve me and to leave . I was with 2 kids and I would in no way make a show . After i mentioned to my boss what had happened , they called and owner got on the phone and became verbally violent, defending his actions and then proceeded to state that he " didn't know if I spoke English " when my boss then went ahead and told him this behavior was unacceptable and racist he then made sure to say that he wasn't racist because he's " Argentinian". This is the disgusting world we live in right now and I would not recommend this place. read more

Beautiful large space. Great concept with Portuguese grocery items for purchase. Very casual and service is the equivalent of what you find at a food court. Understand the concept is to get your food at the counter and sit at a table but the staff walking around could be friendlier and more helpful. Baked goods on display are gorgeous but wish they heated them for in-house dining. Got the portuguese tart that probably would have tasted much better toasted / heated. I had hoped the Portuguese bread for the breakfast sandwich would be better. Overall a beautiful space to meet a friend for coffee but there are tastier breakfast spots with better service nearby. read more

Always fresh and very tasty! Whether you're stopping in for coffee, brunch, or lunch - Mercado delivers.

We were wandering around, looking for a place to grab lunch, and we walked past this restaurant. It looked really crowded, but clean and nice so we decided to give it a try. Must be popular...!
