We were able to find decent street parking. You seat yourself in this spot but maybe there should be a sign that says that? Fortunately we didn't wait long despite it being crowded and got a table pretty quick. Server came and cleaned it off quickly. Ordered at the counter and they brought the food and drinks to the table. We got the chicken and chorizo panini and I got their matcha with raspberry cold foam. My sister got their iced chai which looked good too. The sandwich was absolutely delicious and that alone would make me come back here again. The matcha was also tasty. There is a flow issue .I can't imagine what's like on a weekends . you kinda have to know what you want since you have to make a line for the food bar area and registers . The food is bought to your table . I sad outside , and almost fell off the concrete slab under my chair that was precariously at edge of the slab . The food was okay . I loved this place prior to the rebrand when it was Sandwich Theory and I still love the food though the 180 change in atmosphere took me by surprise. It's definitely frequented by a certain cast of the Montclair crowd.... Anyway, it's definitely a contender when debating where to get sandwiches and I love grabbing brunch there. I'm a grilled cheese girl, so I usually do a custom combination for that, but my companions love their other sandwiches. I've also tried their matcha and it passed the test--I'd like to try some of their other café items. Mercado is definitely a yummy spot for brunch and a chat, but seating gets scarce if you come during a brunch rush. read more

Excruciatingly loud. The walls reflect the sound and as a consequence the conversation level builds and builds until everyone is practically screaming. (Unless there are few people there). I like the food and would otherwise go often if it wasn't so loud. An acoustician can help. Putting absorptive materials on the walls would probably fix it. read more

I used to love this place, but recently I went and as you know it's first come first serve however, my family was asked to leave the table for another family when I asked why I was asked to leave they said it's first come first serve so I literally don't understand how that explanation works because clearly if I was asked to leave the table because I was there first ! We went for brunch. Service was really good. The people out there were really really helpful. We got citrus carrot, and one green juice along with salsa wrap omelette, and Mercado omelette. The best part was all their ingredients were organic and it actually felt really fresh and the food was delicious. Their potatoes that come with omelette platter was also really good. I ordered a chai latte and the Mercado omelet. The chai latte was ok. It was milky more than anything else. The roasted potatoes and omelet were very good. I do wish the toast was warm. It arrived at the table cold. While I was still eating my breakfast one of the employees asked if I was done with one of the plates. I wasn't. The salmon, roasted Brussels sprouts and roasted sweet potatoes at Mercado was tasty. Nain and I ventured to Montclair to visit a friend who goes to Mercado every day. He lives nearby. Nain had a bowl of greens and grains and a coke and Rajender had a bowl of gazpacho that he found delicious. We both had a Cortado that was nicely priced at $3 unlike so many other places. We drank it while nibbling on a flaky almond tart and the famous Pastels de Nata. German (pronounced "xer'man") was a charming server who recognized Rajender as a daily customer. This three year old cafe restaurant is bright and has cheerful friendly employees with indoor and outdoor seating. There is a clean unisex restroom. Mercado closes at 4 pm. read more

I love this restaurant and their food. The lunch dishes are always fresh and delicious. However, they really need to improve quality control during the dinner shift. Sometimes my husband picks up a Harvest Salad for dinner, but ingredients are missing. The first time, the spicy pumpkin seeds were missing, and last night the apple, spicy pumpkin seeds, and goat cheese were all missing. We live 30 minutes away, so we can't go back to fix the order. Had lunch here yesterday. I love Montclair for all it's diverse restaurants and was so excited when this place opened. We got there around 12pm and the place was rocking. Please note- it does get loud inside so if you're looking for a nice quiet location, this one may not fit the bill. I'm a vegetarian and my friend has a bunch of dietary restrictions so it's always difficult for us to find a place that can accommodate us has some good tasting food. Well, we were in luck with Mercado. I had the tofu banh mi which was delicious and she had the harvest grain bowl. She only had to make one minor modification which was not an issue. This was my first time visiting Mercado for a quick business meeting using outside seating. My smoked turkey panini was delicious. I loved the freshness of the apple and how it pairs nicely with the brie cheese. The turmeric cake was soft and moist. A solid choice. Mercado is in a bright, modern space and is serving up fresh, tasty eats for breakfast and lunch. We tried the Serrano pan con tomate (delicious!) and ham & Brie (one of my favorite sandwich combinations) and really enjoyed both. The Healthy Beet juice was refreshing and the Rice Krispie treat was pure homemade goodness. They have a really nice selection of baked goods- everything from scones to cookies to croissants. The OWNER is racist..... today while going to this establishment I was treated horrific. I was trying to place an order but couldn't figure out where I needed to order. As I asked for assistance after standing on the wrong line for 20 mins I began to get accosted by the owner for asking for help and where the line was to order . I decided to just ignore him as I didn't know he was the owner. When I finally got to the correct line to order and the sever was taking my order the owner proceeded to tell them not to serve me and to leave . I was with 2 kids and I would in no way make a show . After i mentioned to my boss what had happened , they called and owner got on the phone and became verbally violent, defending his actions and then proceeded to state that he " didn't know if I spoke English " when my boss then went ahead and told him this behavior was unacceptable and racist he then made sure to say that he wasn't racist because he's " Argentinian". This is the disgusting world we live in right now and I would not recommend this place. read more

Understand the concept is to get your food at the counter and sit at a table but the staff walking around could be friendlier and more helpful. Baked goods on display are gorgeous but wish they heated them for in-house dining. Got the portuguese tart that probably would have tasted much better toasted / heated. I had hoped the Portuguese bread for the breakfast sandwich would be better. The place is clean, the lighting is ample, the staff is both friendly and efficient, the food is tasty, the tables are spaced out enough to maximize the space with feeling cramped, and I believe there was outdoor seating aswell...maybe.
