Great place to meet up with friends - cocktails, beer, food, ambiance - made for a great time!!

We booked our baby shower here about 2 months before the date for the Side Car room. We thought we'd have about 25 guests at first, but we ended up having 50, which they were able to accommodate. The max capacity for that room is 60 people. They have a package where you can choose either a sit down (slightly more expensive), or a buffet and you get to choose four entrees. Drinks are included in the price (bloody marys, mimosas, wine, and beer). For food, we ended up picking the salmon with vegetables, steak, French toast with bacon and sausage, and penne vodka. It was a nice variety and our guests were saying how much they enjoyed the food. If you want dessert, it's an extra fee per person so we ended up bringing a custom cake from the bakery across the street. If you want to decorate, there is a rectangular table they can set up, and two round high-tops. I'm sure they can set up more if you want, but it depends on how many guests you have. I would say 50 guests was a little bit snug but it was doable. There is one bathroom in the room so with that many guests, some people ended up using the restaurant bathroom instead of waiting. There's a sound system you can hook up to but only for iPhone because the android cable wasn't working so if you have an android, be sure to bring your own cords. My only feedback would be the bar situation. We had two people working our event, so they were handling everything - food, cleanup, and the bar. I felt that our guests weren't really able to take advantage of the bar because most of the time, no one was manning the bar, so there was confusion if it was self-serve or if they needed to wait for a bartender. If you can, I would splurge a little extra for the sit-down option because then maybe you can get carafes of drinks at each table. Or maybe you can get carafes with the buffet too, but it wasn't something I thought to ask beforehand since I didn't think it would be an issue for our guests to get a drink. Overall, everything still went great and I would recommend Fitzgerald's if you have a special event. read more

I Ended up at Fitzgerald's for a celebration of life of an old friend's funeral. Now the funny thing is I hung out in the area for years bar hopping blah blah blah anyway I never knew this place existed. I am happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. I am a old bar kind of person I like looking at historical pictures and equipment on the wall and they had a great dirty dry martini and a good selection of micro brew not to many that your head spins a good size bar good food great for a first date out door dining and parking on the street and a parking lot so that is never a problem. Oh and the car is very safe because right next door is the GlenRidge Police Department. They do have a pretty wide selection of dishes to choose from safe for vegetarian just ask good special menu now if you don't want to be found this is the place for you like I said great for a first date and it's not to far from the Garden state parkway right off Bloomfield ave in and if you like window shopping houses GlenRidge is a great little town with gas lamps and gorgeous homes especially during the holidays very quaint. EDIT: I wish to respect the owners and be a little nicer with my review. We had an end of year celebratory lunch here. I had plenty of time to survey the place and eat the food, as well as talk to others who had been here before. In the end, Glen Ridge may only have one restaurant, but that doesn't mean you should feel obligated to eat there when you're in town. I will say, first impressions are five stars here. Service is great - frequent, attentive. The place has a nice vibe overall, has more room than you'd think to fit a group of any size. They handed out a second beer menu that greatly expanded the constant taps with a nice list of expansion - so you'll want to check for that second menu! Parking is a bit tight but be patient with side streets and consider the parking lot across the street (permit free after 5 PM weekdays). Then I got into things. First, while the ambiance is great, the bathroom is not my style. It's clean but it feels little better than a gas station or dive bar, not fitting this place's price point. (I appreciate the feedback that this was intentional with subway tile - but that really doesn't convey the right vibe.) More importantly, when you get into dish quality and consistency: Burrata was divine, but calamari was cooked in the wrong range - rubbery, meaning not enough attention paid to cooking time. The Nashville hot chicken I ordered as an entree was more breading than chicken and really not hot - a little remnant on my tongue but that's it. Yet the rings I added as a side was excellent. I closed out with dessert, and while I enjoyed my chocolate cake, my friend's lava cake was pretty much the same thing, no lava left in the solid. Verdict: This is one of those places that is in the middle with price and quality and needs to decide. For entrees into the $30s, the food needs to be consistently as good as your service, and I would suggest a rethink of the bathroom "subway tile" modeling. Came here finally after a nearby run that my friend did. They were only serving a select menu that night so not as much to choose from, but we were still happy with the options. There were 3 of us and we shared an order of sweet potato fries as well as the caramelized onion flatbread. The flatbread was huge and basically like a pizza. We loved it! Would absolutely get again although we thought it came with mushrooms and had it without bacon by request. Still delicious. The fries were very good too. We also all got the same drink, The Fitzgerald as their namesake. This was a yummy lemon drink with gin and it was strong! We all enjoyed it. Would like to come back here and try more of their menu options next time. They also have a deal on Monday and Tuesday which is half price wine bottles and burgers. read more

My wife and I ate dinner there a few nights ago, the food was delicious and the service exceptional (the waiter brought a second Manhattan as soon as my first glass was empty). We started with the New England Fish Chowder, a different take on the typical New England Clam chowder. The dish came out steaming hot and was very tasty, even the potatoes were nicely cooked. For my entree I had the sausage and pepper calzone, nicely done, but there was maybe a little too much dough for me, however the sauce and stuffings were very good. My wife had the Salmon special with a crab meat topping which was delightful. It was delivered cooked medium, while my wife prefers hers to be med/rare. Overall a very enjoyable evening and meal. Fitzgeralds 1928 surely lives up to its name in its atmosphere and decor, with an exquisite dining experience that transports you back in time with its prohibition-era aesthetic and intricate woodwork. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere exudes a sense of sophistication and elegance, making for a refined evening out. The menu is brief but has some creative and indulgent dishes. I ordered the Nashville Fried Chicken sandwich, which I was expecting to be spicy given its Nashville style, and was disappointed it was not, all-and-all it was still a tasty sandwich. That alongside some Mac & Cheese really hit the spot. Looking at their menu, I'll surely be making plans to return to try their brunch menu, something I have no doubt will be a delightful experience with their cocktails and array of brunchy options. What a terrific little neighborhood restaurant I don't even want to write a review because it's a perfect little gem. In fact, the only little gym in Glen Ridge, friendly bar, service, delicious, salads, burgers sandwiches everything is cooked and fresh. They also have a party room in the back we both had the meatloaf. It's a big portion. We ended up taking it home also had a wonderful appetizer. It was big the food portions Are big, so definitely go hungry had a nice black and tan at the bar and hit the spot and then a nice Irish coffee to end the evening. We ate here for the second time in 2 months. The restaurant was chosen for a meeting point for 2 couples, each who live a distance away. We had no familiarity with the restaurant our first time there. We LOVED it. Everything about Fitzgerald's is great but the one factor that is outstanding is their service. From the hostess to the servers, all treat you with care and respect. Last night the restaurant was packed with folks happily enjoying the bar and dinner. We had reservations and were told it would be a few minutes. After about 5 minutes the gentleman at the desk, Greg, came to us, apologized for the wait, and treated us to dinks. Within 5 more minutes our table was ready. total wait....10 minutes in all and they cared about that. Unbelievable! Such a classic destination for family or friends. Definitely has that traditional Irish bar/restaurant feel to it. There was a little wait to be seated since my party arrived at a busy time, but certainly not an unreasonable one and the waitstaff was very amicable. Neither the dinner nor the dinner disappointed us and they even offer a kid's menu. I would definitely recommend trying the Pretzel as an appetizer and, for dessert, the brownie with vanilla ice cream. My party was on whether we preferred the brownie or the lava cake, but you couldn't go wrong with either. When my grandmother ordered a second helping of the brownie dessert, our waiter gifted it to her on the house. read more

It's the only place in town so you're trapped unless you want to head into Montclair or Bloomfield. And, it's been very inconsistent over the years. The new menu is a turn for the worse. The usual daily specials have disappeared. The new offerings are quite frou-frou (multiple items with quinoa) and some entrees description lacking anything side related save garnishes. My wife had the shrimp and grits which she like but I thought the shrimp tasted a bit past prime. I had the steak frites. The steak was fine but the sauce underneath and the fries were stone cold. We used to come here quite often for the pub type menu but the new menu is off putting and the execution was off. We'll probably give it another go at some point but with trepidation. Also, the wait staff needs work. The hostess gave us a drinks menu and beer menu and no food menu. The server failed to mention the specials and had to prompted to tell us there was another besides the alternate steak item. I came here for dinner with a small group of work friends in the middle of the week and I was surprised at the crowd, there were quite a few people at the bar and then in the dining area as well. I ordered a veggie burger and it was pretty good. I also had some of the pizza as an appetizer and that I probably wouldn't order again. I did like the atmosphere, the staff was very nice and the live bluegrass band was fun to watch. I have to give 3 stars because they were out of a couple of sides that we ordered and were out of the first two beers that I had ordered off of their menu. I opted for a Guinness knowing that they would at least always have this on tap. Overall, the group liked this place and it was a good place just for what we needed so we will likely return. I've been here for brunch a couple times, so that's all I can speak for. The place never seems that busy on weekend mornings, which is too bad considering how good the food and service is. My only real complaint is that last time I was here, my filet had no sear or seasoning whatsoever on the streak and eggs. I'm not saying I like it cooked past rare or doused in Montreal steak seasoning, but I do like a little sear and just a pinch of salt and pepper. Still, for $22.95 with a cocktail and coffee, it's one of the few brunch places in the area where you can actually get a drink. (Most places in Montclair are BYOB). I had the pleasure of eating here on two Saturdays in August, 2022. On both visits, the staff was friendly and welcoming and the interior decor is lovely. My first visit was with one other friend and our table was inside. I ordered a dish from the specials and my friend had the salmon from the menu. Both were delicious and the service was perfect. We split the bread pudding for dessert and both enjoyed it. My second visit was w a group of five and our table was outside. We ordered the chicken sandwich, the burger, the French dip, and the skirt steak from the menu and the fifth order was a pasta dish from the specials. We, all, enjoyed our meals. My one friend, that I've never seen "clean her plate," just about did clean her plate (she had the skirt steak). The service wasn't as on point as the first visit but was still ok. I'll start with saying I was excited to try it. Overall I was disappointed. I started with the pretzel; large and impressive. It was brushed with oil which didn't nothing but give it a shine, and make my fingers greasy. Also, for a $14 pretzel, it would be a nice touch to put the cheese and mustard dips in either plastic, ceramic, or glass ramekins instead of small disposable to go dressing cups. For dinner I had the Buffalo chicken wrap. It was tasteless and the wrap too thick. On top of this, we could see the waitress eating her dinner off in the distance, and she was more concerned with hers than hours. Why 2 stars then? Came here last night with my bf and his family. Food was excellent - service was not. They had some special foodball thing going on so for what ever reason, we were hoarded with bus boys and I don't think we had an actual waiter. The bus boys were fixated on picking up any empty plates/silverware during our meal for the ENTIRE meal. Nothing is worse than someone saying "excuse me" while your about to put a forkful of food in your mouth because the person next to you has an empty bread dish and they can't reach it with you in the way. This is how the entire meal went. At one point, my bf's mom was without knife and fork for her mashed potatoes. The things we DID need were not offered like a refill on water, dessert menu and refills on coffee. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say most likely the wait staff felt they were too good to wait on folks who just wanted wings (for the game) and so they left the entire floor for the bus boys - including tables like ours who were NOT there for the game/wings. If this is the case, next time they have one of the football things, maybe they should just have a self serve wing buffet and be done with it. read more

My first two visits were great, but on my third it happened to be a very busy evening and overall bad experience.They told us the wait time would be about 5-10 minutes, which turned into 15...,20....,you get where I'm going. When we were seated the waitress came by and took our order. I ordered the grilled chicken over salad and it was awful. I can't even stress how bland it was and the chicken was rubbery and fake tasting. The salad dressing had no flavor at all. I'm glad I had a completely different experience from a good amount of previous reviewers. Taste and texture galore! Came here during lunch for Bloomfield Restaurant Week. Although I was absolutely floored when I came across a locked door on Tuesday afternoon, I'm glad I gave them another shot on Thursday. If you know me or have read my other reviews, you know that I absolutely love dining al fresco! We're off to a great start already. I apologize in advance for my selections not making sense, but different items on the prix fixe list caught my eye. First, I went with Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale on draft. Served in a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale glass. I always love when that happens! They have a lot of cocktails I wanted to try - a lot of classic ones especially. My appetizer of choice was the Charleston Crab Chowder/Soup. Lot of little pieces of crab in a milky broth. I'm surprised I they didn't provide any oyster crackers or anything. It wasn't necessary, but could have elevated the dish. For my entree, I couldn't resist going for the eggplant with goat cheese. Thick eggplant rounds, covered in panko and fried to a dark brown with goat cheese in the middle and topped with a diced tomato sauce. This is their play on the eggplant parm, and this definitely beats out all the eggplant parms I've ever had! The panko and frying beyond the typical golden brown allowed the eggplant to stay very crunchy even with the sauce. This is important because it contrasts the melted goat cheese perfectly. The dessert was a brownie sundae. I didn't expect much from it (I've had dozens in my lifetime as it's my favorite go to dessert), until I saw it. The brownie was another textural masterpiece. First of all, I love fudgie brownies. I don't like the cake type ones. If I did, I'd order chocolate cake. Not only was this brownie fudgie, but it was also crispy (read: not overcooked). Amazing! Also, the chocolate drizzle adds even more dimension. Best brownie I've ever had. The service was great (I was the only one dining at the time). Combine the great service with outdoor seating and two items being the best of their kind that I've ever had, this is an easy 5 star! read more

A staple of the Glen Ridge food scene, Fitzgerald's had been on my hitlist for a while. It's definitely a step or two above the average American chain, but still very casual. I love that there's a decent beer list in this suburban restaurant. And a beer flight option, which was delicious! The complimentary bread and hummus were yummy and held us over until our apps and entrees came out, which took a while. The slow, hectic service, as well as the noise, was understandable, seeing as it was Saturday night and it's a popular place. One member of our party ordered a mojito, but he had to remind the waitress about the order because she had forgotten about it. If you check out their official website, don't expect to get the whole story there. When we were looking up Fitzgerald's on their official website, not only did the menu items not completely match with the paper menu we were given in the restaurant, but the daily specials that were mentioned on the website were not offered when we came. I understand that small business owners can't be expected to keep the website updated to the minute, though, and, regardless, all of the food was delicious, if hugely portioned. Everyone had some leftovers for takeout. The menu's all over the place, even for American food, so there's bound to be something for everyone. It's pubby and casual (see: meatloaf, wings), uses fresh local ingredients, yet steakhouse-upscale (see: surf and turf with steak and lobster. And yeah, they have a monopoly on the Glen Ridge dinner scene, but they also compete with Montclair and Bloomfield's offerings, so they're pressured to appeal to a wider variety of tastes. Everything's well prepared and well-seasoned. Tender, juicy meat; perhaps the seafood was a little overcooked, but overall a pleasant experience.
