I was lucky enough to be invited back by the owner for a complimentary meal and i couldn't be more grateful. Last review I said how it was the best Thai food I've had in nj, but that has changed Kai yang has easily become my favorite Thai restaurant ever. The beautiful interior of the restaurant was a great vibe if you want a nice dinner date or get together with friends that is at amazing prices for some amazing food. My new go to is going to be the chicken kra prow, it was my first time trying this dish and I left thinking I need to get this again. Also those chicken dumplings were a great appetizer that you can't skip if you're getting an appetizer. Honestly I don't want to go to any other Thai place now because this set the bar so much higher.

Half Chicken in Massaman Curry - A bowl of Thai curry containing vegetables like carrots and potatoes, topped with crushed peanuts, served on a colorful table.

What a fantastic first visit I had at this casual, colorful, Thai restaurant on Bloomfield Ave! We went on a Sunday afternoon, and we were warmly greeted when we arrived. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, and helpful with our choices. They are known for their Marinated Chicken served on the bone, so I knew that I wanted to try this. I ordered half a chicken with Massaman Curry. The portion was enormous! Beautiful, vibrant red curry, with vegetables and the chicken and served with a portion of white rice. The chicken was tender and flavorful on its own, but the heavenly curry brought the dish to another level. One of the best Thai curries that I've ever tasted. Paired with a delicious Thai Iced Tea, it was a perfect meal. I will definitely return to Kai Yang. I can't wait to try more of the menu!

My wife and I were looking for a casual but solid restaurant before a concert at a nearby venue. (Easy walking distance) I saw Kai Yang on Yelp and wanted to try it. The vibe was fast casual with a cool vibe, based on the decor and lighting. Our waiter was helpful, he ran through the menu with us, so we knew what to order. I had already wanted the rotisserie chicken with Thai marinade. We added papaya salad, tom kha soup, and chicken fried rice for my wife's entree. I loved the half chicken. While I could have been gluttonous and taken out the whole, it was good to taste the other dishes. My wife enjoyed her entree. The soup and papaya salad were also hits. All that for $55 including tip, definitely economical and delicious!

My husband and I were in the area and dropped into Kai Yang randomly for a bite to eat, deciding to take a wild risk by not even checking online reviews beforehand. In short, we had a decent if unspectacular meal. I was surprised at how small the serving our fried calamari starter was, which might have been a blessing in disguise since some of the pieces were a little tough. We experienced similar disappointment with the pad thai. Granted, I struggle with most pad thais since I find most to be either too sweet or too saucy. I found Kai Yang's to be both, but I acknowledge this is entirely a matter of personal preference. In contrast, the massaman curry is a triumph - hot, flavorful, with tender pieces of chicken and potatoes. Paired with rice, we made short work of this entree. If you're searching for dining vibes, look no further. Kai Yang is dressed to the nines, and we received incredibly warm service from start to finish.

Always have amazing food & service! Highly recommend their rotisserie chicken with the panang curry it's AMAZING!!! Always our go to and can definitely be shared between 2 people. Pad Thai is also one of our go too when we're here. Very chill and casual byob restaurant!

We had a great meal, the ambience was good and we really liked the service. We ordered, Thai iced tea, Tom Kha soup, shrimp pad se-ew and chicken pad thai. We found parking in a local lot and it was a quick walk! I would recommend but I must mention, sadly that evening my stomach was off and for part of the night I felt pretty sick :/ unsure of why...

I don't have Thai food often so my rating could be off just because I'm not used to these flavors. I had the Tom Yum and Veggie Curry Puffs and they were both okay. I didn't love them or have the feeling I would want to order it again, but as mentioned it might just because this cuisine is not as familiar to my palate. The inside was very nice and so was the service. Prices were very fair. If you're a big Thai lover I suspect this quality of this food is up there.

We were off to try something new on a cold rainy afternoon so we picked this place. It was empty when we got there with a bold and refreshing decor. The wait was longer than expected considering that we were the only customers. The food looked amazing but it lacked flavor. I want to believe that someone simply forgot to add some seasoning to the fish. We couldn't finish it all because the taste was too bland. We didn't bother to express this to the waiter because the food had taken such a long time to come out and once the food came out, the waiter was no where to be found for a long while. At the point where the waiter showed up to check on us, we had decided to wrap things up and ask for the check, which took a long time to make it back to our table.

A group of us were visiting town for a work trip and onenofnojr colleagues recommended Kai Yang. Upon arrival and as we were sat, we noticed the set up and details for how the restaurant was designed. Even the bathroom had a nice vibe. It took a little bit for our order to be taken and I wish there was more papaya for the papaya salad. The fried calamari was seasoned well, didn't have too much beading and two different dipping sauces. The tom yum and grilled Salmon, which I ordered for my meal, were tasty and pretty healthy sized portions. I didn't try the curries or fried rice personally but my colleagues raved it was delicious.

Fried Banana - Four rolled desserts are served on a rectangular white plate, garnished with powdered sugar and chocolate drizzle, with a dollop of whipped cream.

Food, service, and vibes are 10/10 here. Get their Thai tea!! So delish and perfect to pair with the dishes especially if you get any spice to them. They also gave us fried bananas on the house which were tasty and so crunchy.

Daily special lettuce wrap - Lettuce wraps filled with shredded vegetables, mushrooms, and herbs, served with a small cup of dipping sauce on a white plate.

Disappointed is an understatement. Came here for a lunch on a Saturday. Situated on the "main" street in Montclair, it was very aesthetically enticing. Sat down and was immediately greeted by the waiter. He was prompt in bringing water and asking if we needed and help/ were ready to order. Ordered the following: Thai Iced Tea x2: did not have the fragrant tea flavor or the sweet taste from condensed milk. Right in the middle and would be perfect for those who don't handle sweet foods very well. Daily special lettuce wrap: this was full of flavor but the execution was very disappointing. Placed on romaine lettuce so there was no natural cup to keep the toppings in place which meant that everything spilled as you tried to eat it. Iceberg lettuce would probably be a better choice here Daily special half chicken in yellow curry sauce: Curry was flavorful with a bit of a kick so be careful if you cannot handle spice too well. Carrots were good (except one which had a very weird soggy French fry texture) and potatoes were a nice touch as well. The chicken was... dry. Being a customer that comes relatively close to when the store opened, I thought I would be getting juicy chicken filled with flavor. I was wrong. Even the dark meat pieces were a bit tough. I asked the waiter if it was fresh chicken, which he answered affirmatively so that was even more concerning. Would not recommend. Chicken Pad See-Ew: everything about this was eh. There was a very strong soy sauce flavor with every bite so not sure if that is normal but it didn't sit well with me, especially since I ate the chicken curry first. Overall- would not recommend this place to someone looking for food in Montclair. This place has an amazing opportunity to do be a stand out restaurant in the community, but not in its current state.

From the chairs to the plates to the artwork - everything fits perfectly together (although the "classic rock lite" coming from the speakers might shatter any illusion you had that you'd been transported right into the heart of Bangkok). The food was incredibly vibrant with just the right amount of spice/heat with some other magical components (that's missing from the other local Thai spots we've tried in the past) that had us savoring every bite. The Thai iced tea? Phenomenal and the perfect 'balancing act' while having a dish of spicy food. At first we complained that the portion-size was small but we'd left... stuffed. Our server (Andrew, I believe) as well as one of the cooks that came from the back? Absolutely lovely people that made our most recent visit all the more memorable. Street (metered) parking. Decent pricing. Without a doubt - worth a visit!

It was my second time and their first time (per my suggestion). We're all foodies so I was confident they'd enjoy! And I was right :) For starters, we shared a curry puff appetizer (3 pieces). Small size, BIG flavor!! Especially paired with the pickled sauce. Chef's kiss! For our main dishes - I had the Chicken Pad See Ew and they tried the Mixed Seafood Pad See Ew (shrimp, scallops, and mussels). Everything was delicious!!! It is a BYOB establishment, so we brough Sake and enjoyed it in the wine glasses provided by Nakorn.
