The restaurant is cute and cozy from what I saw briefly while picking up my food. The food was already waiting for me and the check out was nice and quick! Even though I don't live close to Montclair, this has become my regular go to Thai spot. We usually order takeout from here. My favorite dishes are the vegetable drunken noodles, Tom yum fried rice, roasted red duck and Basil seafood hotpot. Their curries are the perfect mix of creamy and light. They are generous with vegetables and herbs and would sometimes use fruit instead of just sugar to sweeten their curries. However service here is painfully slow especially around dinner time. I think we would typically have to wait around 20 mins minimum for entrees. This is a nice Thai restaurant to catch up with friends or even for a casual dinner date. read more

My husband and I had eaten at Sukhumvit Thai a few times before and generally had good experiences. We liked the atmosphere, and the food was consistently enjoyable. Last Saturday, however, was a different story. We were seated by the window, which was lovely, and ordered one appetizer for my husband and two dishes to share. Although we'd asked for the appetizer to come with the entrées--since I hadn't ordered one--it arrived early. My husband kindly waited so we could eat together. While we sat there, neighboring tables who ordered after us were being served. After about 45 minutes with no sign of our meals, our server came by to say there had been a problem in the kitchen and that our food would arrive in five minutes. Fifteen minutes later, there were still no entrées and my husband's appetizer was cold --now a full hour after we'd ordered. At that point, we were frustrated and ready to leave. As we stood up, the server finally approached with our food. We took it to go (it was comped). Unfortunately, even the food was disappointing--bland and tasteless. All in all, it was a really unpleasant experience and a very disappointing night out. read more

Ok now on to the food, the dumplings get a solid ten out of ten - thin dough- great filling - the pork appetizer is one of the best. Ginger char flavor that is just so yummy l. Sukhumvit is an absolutely beautiful restaurant on Walnut Street in Montclair. The seating is very comfortable, and I was warmly greeted on both of my visits. Both times, I came for lunch. There are a nice selection of fun drinks to try. I have had the Yuzu Lemonade, and the Yuzu Iced Tea. Both were delicious. They offer a great lunch special consisting of an app and entree, with the price varying depending on your protein choice. I have tried the Sukhumvit Dumplings and Vegetarian Tom Yum Soup for the appetizers. The dumplings were very plump and tasty. The soup was very large, and had loads of veggies in delicious broth. For entrees, I have had Pad See Ew and Bangkok Noodles. I chose mock duck with both. Both portions are extremely ample. The noodles are nice and chewy. I recommend both dishes. I have really enjoyed both of my visits to Sukhumvit. I will definitely return for dinner, so that I can sample more dishes. read more

It was my friend's first time trying out Thai food and she enjoyed the chicken pad Thai. The service was amazing, the waitress helped us out to pick our mocktails as we were a bit indecisive. I can't really say much about the ambiance as the restaurant wasn't too busy. I went to the restaurant at 4pm so it was an early dinner and there were two other tables dining. We had the pad thai (it was ok), the curry (very very good), curry puff (also very good), some steamed dumpling (very good) and a lychee drink. The Walnut street area has a bunch of great places - add this one to the list. It's very cute inside and also had some tables outside with a laid back atmosphere. Service was attentive. The menu was standard Thai classics but they are definitely well prepared and seasoned. The prices are a bit higher than some of the other local Thai spots though. We tried the Jade dumplings ($10) and chicken satay ($11) - both were delicious and well flavored. The jade dumplings were a great take for a veggie dumpling option. However, this last time we were questioning if it would be our go to moving forward. Unimpressed. Food was not horrible but very mediocre. One of the first dishes I try at any Thai place is their Pad Thai. This one tasted unbalanced with some parts being a little more sour than other parts. There wasn't enough flavor overall and I don't think I saw an option for spice level...a little spice would have made it better for sure. Terrible customer service. Simply put if the kitchen is so busy that they cannot handle orders to the point they don't know when your food will be ready and their best advice is to cancel the order - then maybe stop taking online orders for pick-up/delivery?? I don't want to make it more difficult for the restaurant to operate and waste anyone's time, I'm good with going somewhere else instead. There's really no excuse - switching online orders off is straightforward for the business. The business can then focus on guests dinning in, instead of upsetting customers all round. It was very visible that guests dinning, picking up and 3rd party Delivery Drivers were all getting annoyed with the situation. This review was after waiting +25mins in the restaurant and being told to cancel the order as they (and the kitchen) did not know when the food may be ready (they couldn't even find the order at one point). This little gem is in an area that has quite a few restaurants. Walnut Street I feel is an up and coming section in Montclair. I had my eye on this place for a few months now as I love Thai. I walked up to front and saw they were quite busy between dinner service and take out orders being fulfilled. The host took a few minutes to get to me as people were leaving/picking up meals etc. He did have to clean off a table and then he seated me. There is a spot for eating outdoors (really right on sidewalk) but opting for indoors is just as nice as it is beautifully decorated with Thai culture. I ordered appetizers and the mango drink as well as an entree. The mango juice drink was refreshing. The curry puffs were really delicious and not too salty. The Drunk Man dish of flat noodles, basil, onion, was tasty as well as spicy! Which honestly I asked for. Overall, I liked the place and would go again when in the mood for Thai. This is a beautiful restaurant. That said, I need to let any fellow vegetarians or vegans know that the food is NOT actually vegetarian/vegan-friendly, contrary to what many of the waiters (and even Yelp reviews!) say. I've been there at least 7 times and also ordered online, always giving the details that I'd like my dish to be made vegan with no fish sauce and no egg. I was always happy when they confirmed they could make dishes vegan. In my most recent visit I gave the same request and the waiter let me know that all the dishes have fish sauce and only fried rice could be made without fish sauce. I let her know that I have always been able to order vegan or vegetarian at this restaurant and she proceeded to argue with me that fish sauce IS vegetarian & vegan friendly. She kept saying fish isn't meat and I had the wrong definition. It was a clear difference in how we both view the term vegetarian or vegan. I did want to let the non-pescatarians know about this experience so you can also avoid fish if you do not eat it. I'd be very happy to return to this restaurant if they did add a true vegetarian or vegan menu and clarified their menu and understanding across the restaurant team. read more
