I ordered Ped Nam Puong, a crispy duck fish that was a little sweeter than I normally like. It was good but I think next time I will make a different choice. I've been a loyal customer for many, many years but today will be my last order with them. I ordered over $90 worth of food and it was all tasteless!!! The food lacked seasonings with the main one being basil! Basil is the main herb in Thai food and I did not taste it at all. The Thai fried rice was so damn tasteless I barely ate it. The seafood medley was fishy and that might be due to the lack of seasonings. The fried calamari did not have any salt!!! And to top it all off, the portions were the smallest ever. My friend picked up an order recently and we got more food so I can only surmise that the delivery orders contain less food (I've heard that but never believed it until today). The curry puffs were to die for. I thought they were amazing and the sauce made them 10 times better. The drunken noodles were good. They reminded me of chow fun. I'd give Boonsong an extra half star- I really don't think its a 4 or a 3. The wait staff is awesome- as is the manager. So why not higher? They close really early- 9:30; and considering that food is hard to find in Bloomfield past 9pm, they really should want to be picking up all that business they miss out on. People order out usually because they get home too late from work, and since many commute to NYC, its just a missed opportunity. The other reason its not higher rated for me, is that when Ive called in an order and its within 2 minutes of their 9:30pm cut off time, they refuse to take it- thats just bad business. Now, on to the food- The fried calamari appetizer is seriously good- prepared well with a really good sauce- I always order the sauce with my pad thai. The papaya salad with shrimp is also excellent- some of the best Ive had anywhere- small dried shrimp in the spiciest tangiest chili lime sauce- most excellent. The curries are good, not fantastic, good. My main complaint on the curries is the size- if you order this as takeout, the Massamun curry for example (first thing I ever ordered from them) was in a small pint container the same size as a wonton soup container- it had 5 pieces of small somewhat tender beef, and really light on the potatoes and onions, so little peanuts I'm not sure it even had them. Noodles: Here is where they get my vote of confidence, Pad Thai- really well done, has all the right stuff in abundance- great as a lunch special, not too different in size or price from dinner though- this is something they need to work on- lunch specials are anything but special- expensive in comparison to the regular menu, not much different. Drunken Noodles- really pretty good too. The entrees Ive had here were all good. I cant recall the name of the dishes I had, but one was a seafood and noodle dish with chinese eggplant tat was very good and if you say, "make it Thai spicy", they will look at you oddly and ask if you're sure...one waitress I had there told me she doesnt even eat it like that- and yes, they are all from Thailand- cute too :) If you like spicy, this is the place to go. So, I'd really like to up the rating another star, lets see if they read these reviews- I will keep coming (even though at one time I specifically talked to the manager and swore I wouldnt after that first small curry disappointment). Overall the food seems reasonable, but if you take in to account that the portions are designed for diners who order multiple courses- you can easily spend more than you wanted to, and with Thai food, that's really not necessary- none of these dishes are a shareable size at all- that is their downfall; one shouldnt need to spend $60 to feed two people. read more

We didn't take advantage of the restaurant week menu (frankly, we didn't know what it was) and we ordered a la carte. Appetizers: Curry Puffs & Crispy Noodles with Shrimp Entrees: Soft Shell Crab night Basil Sauce, Shrimp Noodles in Basil Sauce, Duck in Tamarind Sauce, & Red Curry duck. The service was heartwarming, welcoming, and timely. The food quality and portions were more than excellent. The spice level is to taste. We ordered medium which had a good kick but tolerable - nothing that a simple glass of ice water didn't fix. (Rita's is two stores down if you need some more help ) They offer street parking but with all the food you end up eating there, you'll need a good walk. read more

The restaurant looks very nice and the staff is very pleasant, great service! The food is sooo delicious!! We ordered Thai iced tea and lemonade, served in mason jars (who does not love that), both drinks were great! From the appetizers, I selected the tofu tod and my sister chose the vegetable dumpling. Both very tasty and cooked very well. The tofu was lightly fried but no grease which I loved because a lot of places serve their fried tofu greasy, but not this place , perfectly cooked. I had the tofu pad Thai for my entree, I would recommend this dish to anyone who eats here. My sister had pineapple fried rice with shrimp and She loved it! You are getting your money's worth with amount of food you receive which is always good! Overall , I would say if you are looking for a good Thai place this is it! Happy I found a new Thai place in the area where I work bc there aren't a lot of ethnic food places around this way. I listened to another reviewer and got the curry puffs and I'm happy i did. I never had them before but I like curry chicken so I gave it a shot! They were good tasting and crispy, a tad sweet but not overwhelming. I didn't even need to try the cucumber sauce bc I was satisfied with the curry, sweet and crispy taste combination. I also ordered pad Thai w/ shrimp and that was also good: thin noodles paired with the peanuts, shrimp and I think Tofu, bean sprouts (and I believe egg), all in in one bite tasted great. Alone the noodles tasted a tad salty but the tofu ( i think that's what it is) tasted AMAZINGLY Good. The customer service was exceptional. Went for lunch with my boyfriend who loves authentic Thai food which is definitely what we got! Service was good, the food was great with proper portions. The salad you get before your appetizer comes out had a peanut type of dressing could definitely tell it was homemade. We ordered the appetizer sampler, and I got Larb as my main dish. The Larb was a bit too spicy to my liking but was so good I kept fighting the spice. Could not even order a lunch to be picked up until this place opened at noon. They would not deliver lunch and the guy on the phone denied that soup came with the two pad thais. It was printed on their menu! Told me to give them time to make the lunch since they only opened at noon. WTF? Bland food, no sides, horrible service, we had to to pick up - all for $11 apiece. Fresh & delicious. My husband & I have been eating here for several years. A few of our favorites: Panang curry, Tofu Pad Khing, Pad see-ew w/chicken. The owner is a lovely man & has always made us feel welcome & comfortable when dining together and equally welcome when I've dined alone. Since covid-19 has changed our world, we are no longer dining in but have enjoyed many take out dishes from this restaurant. The reason why I'm leaving two stars is not because of the food, it's because of the service. I understand that they close during the afternoon and resume business at 5. I was there at 5:08, standing outside their locked door. The man who works there - or maybe he's the owner - just stood there, looked at me, and walked inside the kitchen, leaving me standing out in the cold. (It's winter!) Great new thai place! I can't comment on the poor service that the previous reviewer experienced -- we got takeout. But the food itself was amazing. The pad thai was really unusual -- flavorful yet light. Spicy, tangy, peanutty- yum! Spicy basil tofu was just as good, as was the red curry. None of the dishes seemed very heavy or greasy at all. Veggies were fresh! We will definitely be ordering from this place again, and will likely make it our go-to Thai takeout place. read more
