Really cute cozy cafe with deserts and quick bites. Place is so cute and small you order upfront what you want they have a variety of deserts and coffees . I got the matcha latte but they have a wide selection of deserts as well . My friend had the eclair it was excellent , I also loved that they had a lot of gluten free options ! Both desert and coffee is excellent.
Brrrrr, baby, it's cold outside in the middle of the night in December, and we stopped in at this sweet-looking cafe for a bit of warmth and coffee. I wasn't sure if it opened as I didn't see anybody inside at first. Then we opened the door and stepped inside, and called out. We found the employee sitting behind the counter, but the counter was so big that it obstructed our view of knowing they were there. Upon looking around, they had a nice assortment of pastries and baked goods, along with wrapped sandwiches from earlier in the day. I spied the baked goods section and could not resist getting a chocolate chip cookie as we eyed their baked goods. We decided to share since I need to watch my calories during the holidays. I want to celebrate Christmas, and not look like Santa. The employee there made two lattes for us and asked if we would like her to heat the cookie. Yes, please and thank you! Upon sitting down, I noticed the big grease mark on the napkin, so it should be noted that their cookies are made with high butter content. The chocolate chip cookie, though generously chipped and served delightfully warm, fell a bit flat on flavor. Similarly, the latte, while hot and satisfying, was overwhelmingly milky, lacking the robust punch of a quality espresso. Here is how it ranked: Chocolate Chip cookie: 3.5/5 stars. Good texture, high butter content, but flat taste. Latte: 3.5/5 stars. Nice and hot, good alternative milk option, but too mild on espresso. This cafe is a perfectly pleasant spot for a moment of refuge and a hot cup of something, especially if you're not concerned with a full-bodied coffee experience or a truly exceptional baked good. If you're out and about needing to warm up, it does the trick.
I have passed by this location many times. Today we decided to give it a try. The food is fresh and the coffee is flavorful. There is a nearby parking deck, short walk. Service was quick even though it was almost midday. It was a nice relaxing ambiance.
I stopped here after a Yelp event and got a peanut butter cookie. It was dense, very flavorful but slightly dry. But the place is adorable inside and I feel it would be a lovely place to work. It's cozy and has welcoming vibes.
Fresh food not fried, which is a big deal ! Everything was tasty the meal was good enough to be shared between me and my girlfriend. Avocado was fresh and the fries were good. The hot chocolate was also great and very chocolatey! The pecan crunch latte was also good. There was a lot of crunch in it so if you're not a fan of having that, then you shouldn't get it, but it was tasty. Came earlier in the day, so it was perfect. Service was quick. Great ambience to stop with your friends or on a quick date.
Love coming here. I was on a solo date and decided to treat myself for breakfast as I read my book. I love their homemade lemonade infused with strawberries and mint. I also ordered their sunny avocado which was yummy and also came with a side of a green salad. You order and pay at the front and they bring it out. Service was speedy and professional. I also love their bakery section as well and their decor for the holidays.
Everything that needs to be said about this lovely Montclair cafe has already been said by other reviewers. The ambiance is just as cozy and homey as others have suggested, and the service (both at the tables and counters) is friendly to boot. What I'd like to add to the heaps of Yelp praise of this sweet cafe is my personal ode to the pistachio croissant. Maybe it's the recent virality of the famed Dubai chocolate, but I've noticed this green nut making a more prominent appearance in pastry shops (to note: Sweet Kitchen proffers their own version of the Dubai dessert). I was tempted by two of them behind this cafe's counters - the gluten-free pistachio cookie and the pistachio croissant. For a cookie free of gluten, this one's got plenty of crunch and texture. There's a ton of almondy essence (maybe it's made with almond flour?) that beautifully complements the flavor of the ground pistachios. But the croissant was what took my breath away. When we broke into it, we audibly gasped at the gooey dribble of pistachio filling that revealed itself. It's a wonderful and tasty surprise that, along with the crunchy pistachio topping, makes for an incredible take on the humble croissant. There are just enough tables to provide a low hum of vibrancy without making things too loud. The corner of self-service materials (eating utensils, water cups, and bins for used glassware) also makes this a great space for hanging out to work or catch up with friends without waiting for servers.
Cute, midsized bakery and cafe that makes specialty coffees and baked goods. We stopped in to try their raspberry rugulach, banana pudding, strawberry shortcake and chocolate covered strawberry. All items were fresh and tasty. The strawberry cup at $12 with 6 enormous strawberry was really nice! They have a nice variety of celebratory cakes and gluten free products. 4 stars because they lacked service. Not welcoming at all. After purchasing several items the cashier handed them to me in my hand, when I asked for a bag she replied 'we don't have them' and that was it! Very nice products and with improvement in customer service can easily be a 5 star bakery and cafe.
Sweet Kitchen is FANTASTIC!!! When we first walked in, I was a little apprehensive because it was super packed. But service was quick and we were able to get a table pretty much right away. I ordered the menemen eggs, a dish I had never had anywhere before, and it blew my mind. It was bursting with flavor and the naan bread that came with it was so light and perfect. I also had a really good dirty chai. My husband ordered oatmeal, eggs, and coffee and also thoroughly enjoyed his meal. We really should've written down our server's name because she was so energetic and welcoming. We would absolutely come back here, and wholeheartedly recommend it if you're in the area.
Ventured off to Sweet Kitchen because I was going to be in the area AND because I was here to pick up my Too Good To Go goodie bag. A friend told me about the app months ago and so fellow Yelp Philly member in December. I just never had the opportunity since my area is so rural. When I got to Sweet Kitchen, my bag was ready and waiting so I applaud them for being so efficient. The staff wasn't all that friendly BUT they were quick and on it so pick your poison. Sweet Kitchen was such a cute shop. LOTS of seating, great music, and even a fireplace-ish. The place is a little worn but it's super clean and organized. The pastry case was full with cheesecakes, layered cakes, tarts, tiramisu, and all. They had soooo many baked goods as well. Savory and sweet. And even a Gluten Free section as well. Smoothies. Teas. Coffees. You name it. A proper café! I got an Americano to go with my goodie bag which turned out to be 4 HUGE slices of Red Velvet Cake. It was delicious and the surprise twist: they had raspberries between the layers! So yum!
Ambience: 5/5, a blend of coffee shop and brunch spot. Service is friendly, it's not too loud, still lively but not overcrowded Food 4/5. Was able to come here and be seated right away after a different brunch spot had a 1.5 hour wait. French toast (perfectly cooked with a vanilla sauce that hit the spot) and steak sandwich (was impressed by the baguette and how well the flavors came together) were excellent. The eggs benedict was good.
Lovely spot for brunch in Montclair! I have been a few times now for both pastry and full plates. Service is friendly, though I feel like the functionality of the restaurant seems more focused on bakery/cafe to go since there's not formal way of getting a table. This is despite there being lots of seating! I never like to just sit down and expect to get service, so you gotta ask at the counter and take menus from there. Other than that, the place is truly lovely. AND it can get busy since it's popular, so be ready to order!
Cute little cafe in downtown Montclair! The decorations are floral and rustic looking and it really sets a good vibe for studying, coffee dates, or studying with a friend. Seating is self-managed and make sure to pick up after yourselves! Water can be requested by the server if you are planning to dine in, and they'll bring your order right to your table when it's ready. I got to try the decadent and creamy chocolate mousse cake, and it was an ENORMOUS slice! Definitely worth the price! The mousse was very sweet and chocolately, so the chocolate sponge on the bottom definitely helped to break up the taste and make a more complex flavor. This parred with a black coffee or tea would be amazinggg. My friend also got the tres leches which seemed creamy and fresh. I definitely will be going back to check out their other menu items, maybe a savory one now that I know their sweets are the real deal. Great post-dinner dessert spot!
During my visit, I experience good customer service; employees are kind and helpful with navigating the menu. The Lentil Soup is a calm soup, not too salty, not too spicy, carrying natural lentil bean flavors, earthy and warm. The Naan is soft, savory, and like a tender fluffy pita bread with light seasoning. Aside from the meal, I think double checking utensils is so important in kitchen environments (where utensils are put to re-use). Thanks for being patient and understanding with my request to change spoons (the first time, in the photo, due to a food like stain, and the second time due to a dry dishwasher soap/milk like stain). Also, I think, if possible, replacing the fogging/smog-stainful-looking plastic like cups (for free water) with paper-like cups or by way of glass cups and metal-like pitchers may contribute to the eatery's ambience well. Down-to-earth vibes. The eatery has indoor and outdoor seating. The establishment accepts different forms of payment. read more
Stopped at Sweet Kitchen one evening after having dinner across the street. They have indoor seating, as well as some outdoor seating. There was a lack of friendly service. I saw the good reviews so I was disappointed when I received my desserts. Most of the cake slices were around $7, but when I asked for a cheesecake or pistachio one, one slice was $13 which I found to be expensive so I did not get that one. My friends and I decided on 3 cakes: strawberry, Oreo, and chocolate. I don't think I will ever be returning - the cakes tasted old. The best way to describe it was a like it came from a chain supermarket - lacking flavor and not up to fresh quality. The only one that was edible was the chocolate slice. We felt so bad to have to throw away the other two cakes, but they were not good at all. It was a waste of money to pay so much for a slice and not eat it. read more
Wow what a place. From the moment you walk in you get the warmest welcome. It's a comfy spot to grab a coffee, tea some food and just relax or catch up with a pal. Aj was amazing, she recommend the steak burrito that was a 10/10 very fresh. We also had the prosciutto toast that was a 10/10. This café felt like home. The staff was super warm, genuinely kind and great at explaining what was on the menu. I would highly recommend coming to this café if you're looking to meet up with a new friend work from home at a café or give yourself a solo date. I definitely want to come back for the macaroons and some of the pastries. I loved my tea combo. The only thing I would say is that the bench chairs are a little higher than the four legged chairs, which was a little awkward. read more
Visited sweet kitchen based on the glorious Yelp reviews. Ordered the crepe and coffee. Owner was friendly and service was pretty good. Overall decent vibe , I thought the crepe, mocha and cappuccino were just okay, nothing special. read more
I wanted to like this place so bad but it was unfortunately a miss for me. The space is a cozy cafe with friendly staff but the food wasn't great. I ordered the Sunny Avocado Croissant and there was the smallest smear of avocado it was disappointing, it also tasted bad as in the avocado was turning but was added to the sandwich regardless, it also had zero flavor or seasoning. I ordered a Tiramisu Latte and it tasted like a regular latte, I didn't taste any sweetness or tiramisu flavor, and as you know, flavor syrups are an additional cost so I expected to taste a flavor of some kind. read more

Just overall a great place nested in a corner in Montclair. Outdoor seating is perfect and plentiful. No waiting. Customer service was wonderful and friendly. The breakfast selection was incredibly delicious. Probably one of my go-to places when I think about a quick place to grab breakfast or lunch. Always on point. Although they no longer serve avocado toast anymore, they do have other delicious options. read more

Servers were friendly but the food was pretty disappointing. I got the Sunny Avocado Croissant. I'm generally not super fussy about my eggs, but these were seriously overdone. It took longer than expected for the food to come out and I was starting to run late, so I didn't send them back. If I ever return, I think I'll stick to the pastries, which looked good. read more

I've known this place existed forever and never had a chance to make it in until today. They have so many gluten free options! I got the brownie and it was to die for. I honestly couldn't tell it was GF it was so flavorful and rich. Also got the hibiscus green tea and it was very refreshing. My friend got a tea with almond milk and they did forget the milk. My other friend got the tiramisu and thought it was really really good. They did forget to bring out our dessert so we had to ask for it when the crowd died down but no big deal. Lots of seating and the line moves quickly. read more

PROS: - decent size and good for groups - lots of dessert options - desserts are really good - cakes are delicious - vegan options - gluten-free options - interesting and unique variety of tea blends and coffees CONS: - None Stumbled upon this place as I was strolling Montclair looking for a coffee/tea spot. The shop is a good size and has a lot of dessert options. I ended up getting a one of each or their gluten free and vegan desserts. All of the ones I tried were really tasty! I'm so happy I stumbled on my new favorite coffee and tea spot in Montclair. I also had their Lavender Matcha which was very delicious. It's a little on the sweet side but both that lavender and matcha are very balanced. I highly recommend checking them out if in the area. read more
Really enjoyed getting smoothies at Sweet Kitchen today. This was our first time here but certainly won't be the last. Initially I was tempted with ordering a crepe or one of their several enormous pastries or even one of their several different coffees, but we both decided on getting smoothies. The smoothies had cool names of Greek gods like Aphrodite, Apollo, Hermes, ect and they all looked fantastic. Definitely want to come back to try out a few of their pastry options and coffees for a brunch. The vibes were great, plenty of seating, and just a great atmosphere to be in. I can see why this place consistently gets high marks. My bf and I got there much earlier than the friends we were meeting and the server allowed us to have a seat and was very attentive to us. I had the Sunny Avocado Croissant. It was very good and fresh. I enjoyed it very much. Everyone else also enjoyed their meals as well. We gotten the pastry board and most of it was good but a lot of what we wanted to try was sold out and what was left wasn't that great and we were pushed on the scones even though none of us were a fan of scones. While we were there, I noticed that a lot of people who came in were regulars and the staff had great rapport with them. That is always nice to witness in a small business. If I'm ever back in the area I will give it another try. read more

I love this little corner spot in Montclair. This place gives me vibes of a spot in Brooklyn or LIC. Love the ambiance and food here. Flavor is amazing and service is on point. If you're in the area for a quick bite I would highly recommend this place. Everything in the menu is delicious. One of the best squeezed juice available. read more

My wife and I visited this quant coffee shop in the heart of beautiful Montclair NJ. It had a nice vibe with soft jazz music playing and a 1930's wooden aesthetic. I had a medium brewed coffee and their orange bread. My wife had their Tiramisu and a small coffee. First off, the gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and when I asked him if they had any pour over or light roast coffee, he politely almost apologetically said no. I appreciated his candor and we talked a bit about baseball, as he noted my Yankees cap. The food items were very good. My orange bread tasted fresh and was awesome. My wife's Tiramisu was also wonderful and not too sweet. They also brought the items to our table which was appreciated. Overall a great experience and we will be back! read more
I really want to rate this place higher but I can't. This is such a cute place. The service is extremely friendly however there is definitely a language barrier making it difficult. In addition the women who was at the counter taking orders did not know the system or computer well so it slowed down the entire process. She was sweet but there was a line forming. Slow and sweet is not really what is needed when there is a line. Someone with more experience should've been supervising or helping her. I felt bad. The food was disappointing. When I requested a side of eggs and ask them to be cooked over hard the women who took my order didn't understand and even after explaining it another way it's not her fault though. That's management or the owner's job to make sure she has the help needed to do the job. She nodded like she understood and when my eggs came out they were sunny side up. When I asked a different lady who brought out the food for it to be cooked longer she nodded as if she understood took my plate and left then the lady who took my order came back with the same plate nothing different and was asking what I wanted by that point I didn't even want the eggs. The potatoes were also undercooked. The sunset smoothie was all coconut water with a hint of fruit which I think for it to be 10 dollars they need to make improvements. It was a bigger then the average smoothie but the quality isn't worth the money. The hot chocolate was a little colder then lukewarm but the flavor was really good. I loved that they asked and gave me both whipped cream and marshmallows. The bacon was fine. The pumpkin French toast was the most disappointing. It was regular French toast with a big slab of canned pumpkin. Although on the menu it said there would be canned pumpkin I thought it would at least be in the batter. For it to be the most expensive meal on the menu and for it to be recommended by person who took my order is ridiculous. I feel like I wasted a lot of money here for below average food. If I come back it would be for the hot chocolate but I would request it to be hot. read more

Tried this spot with friends. I ordered the Spirulina smoothie - it was too ice-y and not creamy at all. It was more of a slushie than smoothie. The place is popular with locals- for good reasons: the interior is very cozy and is decorated like the inside of a living room; there's also a generous outdoor seating. Is it ok if I meet somebody here for a cup of coffee or is this more of a sit-down restaurant? It seems like a cute little cafe but when I look at the menus it seems like more of a place where they expect you to order food.
I hope you found an answer sooner, but for others wondering the same: this is definitely a place to meet someone for coffee. No pressure to order more than coffee and/or baked goods. You will want at least those anyway!
Can the owners post a food menu? The website is not up.
