The baked goods are amazing, no matter the time of day. Always tastes fresh and made with love. They've got giant cookies, giant coffee cakes, generous cake portions, and a cute display of tiny treats, too. Nothing ever too sweet. You can taste only goodness. It was my first visit Sweet Kitchen for breakfast and it would be the last. Not impressed with food or interior settings. Tables set so next to each others it's hard to squeeze by. Seats are not comfortable at all. Food was very average for the price they charge. Definitely the correlation between price and quality and quantity doesn't align. Def worth coming the first time. They have an array of baked goods which definitely look pretty good. Don't get the Mac and cheese- def not recommended it was bland and unappetizing (they did refund this so that's a huge plus). The orange juice was bitter for the shake I got was amazing. The crepe was tough and lacked the silkiness of a better crepe. French toast was pretty good as well. The avocado croissant was really good, I would recommend it. The penne vodka was amazing . This place is absolutely amazing! Such a beautiful atmosphere with floor to ceiling windows and an open cafe space with glass counters filled with baked goods. My boyfriend and I came here after we weren't able to get a seat at another place across the street (lol), but we didn't regret it one bit! We were a little confused on how to order but you can either sit at an open table, put your name down for a table if all are full, or order at the counter and sit down. We started off with a smoothie (the Hermes) which was a little icy and honestly I would not recommend it but it did not take away from the rest of our experience. I got the smoked turkey sandwich and my boyfriend had the shrimp and grits - both absolutely amazing!!! The bread on the sandwich was soft like a pillow and my boyfriend's shrimp and grits was the best comfort meal I've had in awhile. Our food was so good the super nice waitress even gave us a free slice of banana cake for finishing it all (thank you :) )! Weird concept, if you are doing sit down why do we get our own drinks? No tap water. Water bottles only with no ice. Lattes given in to go cups. Not environmentally friendly and also strange and this is supposed to be an eat in experience. Why not just be able to order at the counter if it's to go? Long wait for food and drinks (again, it wasn't crowded). The cinnamon bun French toast was regular French toast with icing on it. They were yummy but not what was expected and quite expensive given it was just diner French toast. The pastrami was delicious but you were barely given any for $19. Eggs and cheese were also yummy on it. I would ask for the mustard on the side because they put a lot on the one side. Good food but not worth the price. Cute little cafe restaurant right in the downtown area. I would give 4.5 stars if I could. Parking can be difficult but there are a couple of park garages nearby if street parking isn't available. I ordered the sunny avocado croissant sandwich, matcha latte, and scone. Everything came out fairly quick. The matcha and scones were good. The breakfast sandwich was tasty but would have been better with fresh avocado slices instead of a guacamole type mixture. I did enjoy the fresh arugula side salad that it came with. Totally blown away by this place. I actually came to Montclair to visit another vegan restaurant around the corner but they were closed even though google said they were open. I decided to stop in here and the vegan sandwich was huge. I was told by the cashier the bread and pesto are vegan. The sandwich came with a salad for $14 and it was worth it! I only ate half and took the rest to go. They are dog friendly with their outdoor seating. Went here for breakfast with visiting family from Texas. Our group of 6 was seated immediately and we came just right before it got busy. We ordered omelette, smoked salmon, grilled cheese and of course the crepe and chocolate covered strawberries (B-day weekend!). They don't skimp on ingredients here because everything came in big portions. My fave was the smoked salmon with poached eggs on toasted cranberry & raisin bread. I was thrown off by the bread but it actually paired well with the smoked salmon taste! (That'll be my new fave combo for breakfast). The crepe was a bit too sweet for my taste (heavy handed on the Nutella filling) - even my boys couldn't finish half of the crepe. This is a really good spot for brunch and pastries or if you're in the mood for fresh pressed juices as well. Never had a sit down meal until today and the service was prompt and very friendly. They have all kinds of sweet and savory choices but today I went with the fresh made Greek yogurt with granola, honey, bananas and berries. Sweet Kitchen, corner of Park Ave and Bloomfield Ave, Montclair, was on our Breakfast List which we just now checked off this Saturday AM. With so many breakfast cafes in and around the Montclair/Upper Montclair area, rating them became interesting as their differences, although somewhat subtle, would result in future visit considerations. Although the seating area is ample, Sweet Kitchen does a fair job of placing their tables throughout the space without causing their customers to feel too crowded which made for an average seating experience. The ordering counter is approached from the Right where printed menus are found. Above and to your Left, are a substantial array of baked goods that may be added to your breakfast order. A Server will bring your order to your table. Prior to leaving, payment is made at your table via her tablet. Add-Ons such as baked goods, may still be added to your check at that time. Your bill is shown to you via her tablet with cash or credit card accepted. I thought this was somewhat awkward as it became obvious that a printed check was not a part of the payment process. I asked to see a detailed check and was handed the tablet to view it, this being a departure from the norm. The Server stood adjacent to our table until I had finished proof-reading our e-check and made my payment which I found inconvenient. With regard to food, I purposely sampled the French Toast. Frankly, this dish was not prepared using classic thick-sliced Challah bread that would be soaked in a seasoned batter, lightly cooked on a flat top grille, turned until golden brown and served. Instead, thin, small pieces of overly cooked bread were placed in a dish along with two (2) strawberries, not living up to it's price point for this breakfast selection. (My wife had a scrambled egg dish.) We both ordered beverages with milk on the side. I must say that the coffee was flavourful and freshly brewed. I did, in fact, sample one of the baked pasteries and found it to be good. I wanted to award Sweet Kitchen more stars yet could not do so given the serving experience combined with the disappointing preparation of their French Toast as well as the $45 check for our simple breakfast. read more

When we entered i asked if we just sit down or need to be seat by waitress, i was told to sit whatever. No one came to our table, nobody gave us menus so we just googled the menu on our phones. Waited...waited....and still no one came to our table but we see her helping everyone else. We decided to order at the counter & paid that moment. Wasn't sure the man was the owner or manager but he asked if the order was to go and we said we are eating here but no one came to take our order. Thinking if he was aware he would send someone to be more attentive. Did not happen. Are drinks came first, i notice it was brown latte when i ordered a matcha latte. I asked the waitress before she left if this is matcha latte because its not green, she said yes thats what you ordered. Okay than i tried it and it was mocha so than again tried to get a hold of a waitress. I finally got a hold of another waitress explained to her the situation and literally had to point at my receipt to show what i ordered. I only rated this restaurant four stars because the food was really good. After i got my correct latte is was really tasty and the pastrami sandwich was amazing. This was a cute coffee spot I stopped in while visiting my friend in Jersey. Our barista was really nice and had insightful recommendations. I came here for an espresso shot and saw that they had infused water with fresh fruit cut up in it which I also ordered. I had never purchased infused water that had pineapple spears in it and it was very refreshing. They have multiple iterations of this water with all different types of fruit -- my friend got the Matcha latte with lavender and she seemed to really enjoy it. Definitely not a place for studying. Very small, dark shop. Very limited seating. Only thing well lit was the pastries in the case. And they looked wayyy better than they tasted. I tried the carrot cake and it was dryer than the Sahara dessert. Yes, it was that bad lol. For coffee, I opted for an espresso and the vanilla latte to compare to the other shop. Ive had better espresso and lattes. It was very bitter. Taste like it came from one of those car dealer coffee machines. Sugar nor milk rescued these drinks. Today I went in they have a bunch of great options from variety of different cheesecakes, pastries and other items.
