Brrrrr, baby, it's cold outside in the middle of the night in December, and we stopped in at this sweet-looking cafe for a bit of warmth and coffee. I wasn't sure if it opened as I didn't see anybody inside at first. Then we opened the door and stepped inside, and called out. We found the employee sitting behind the counter, but the counter was so big that it obstructed our view of knowing they were there. Upon looking around, they had a nice assortment of pastries and baked goods, along with wrapped sandwiches from earlier in the day. I spied the baked goods section and could not resist getting a chocolate chip cookie as we eyed their baked goods. We decided to share since I need to watch my calories during the holidays. I want to celebrate Christmas, and not look like Santa. The employee there made two lattes for us and asked if we would like her to heat the cookie. Yes, please and thank you! Upon sitting down, I noticed the big grease mark on the napkin, so it should be noted that their cookies are made with high butter content. The chocolate chip cookie, though generously chipped and served delightfully warm, fell a bit flat on flavor. Similarly, the latte, while hot and satisfying, was overwhelmingly milky, lacking the robust punch of a quality espresso. Here is how it ranked: Chocolate Chip cookie: 3.5/5 stars. Good texture, high butter content, but flat taste. Latte: 3.5/5 stars. Nice and hot, good alternative milk option, but too mild on espresso. This cafe is a perfectly pleasant spot for a moment of refuge and a hot cup of something, especially if you're not concerned with a full-bodied coffee experience or a truly exceptional baked good. If you're out and about needing to warm up, it does the trick.
Fresh food not fried, which is a big deal ! Everything was tasty the meal was good enough to be shared between me and my girlfriend. Avocado was fresh and the fries were good. The hot chocolate was also great and very chocolatey! The pecan crunch latte was also good. There was a lot of crunch in it so if you're not a fan of having that, then you shouldn't get it, but it was tasty. Came earlier in the day, so it was perfect. Service was quick. Great ambience to stop with your friends or on a quick date.
Love coming here. I was on a solo date and decided to treat myself for breakfast as I read my book. I love their homemade lemonade infused with strawberries and mint. I also ordered their sunny avocado which was yummy and also came with a side of a green salad. You order and pay at the front and they bring it out. Service was speedy and professional. I also love their bakery section as well and their decor for the holidays.
Everything that needs to be said about this lovely Montclair cafe has already been said by other reviewers. The ambiance is just as cozy and homey as others have suggested, and the service (both at the tables and counters) is friendly to boot. What I'd like to add to the heaps of Yelp praise of this sweet cafe is my personal ode to the pistachio croissant. Maybe it's the recent virality of the famed Dubai chocolate, but I've noticed this green nut making a more prominent appearance in pastry shops (to note: Sweet Kitchen proffers their own version of the Dubai dessert). I was tempted by two of them behind this cafe's counters - the gluten-free pistachio cookie and the pistachio croissant. For a cookie free of gluten, this one's got plenty of crunch and texture. There's a ton of almondy essence (maybe it's made with almond flour?) that beautifully complements the flavor of the ground pistachios. But the croissant was what took my breath away. When we broke into it, we audibly gasped at the gooey dribble of pistachio filling that revealed itself. It's a wonderful and tasty surprise that, along with the crunchy pistachio topping, makes for an incredible take on the humble croissant. There are just enough tables to provide a low hum of vibrancy without making things too loud. The corner of self-service materials (eating utensils, water cups, and bins for used glassware) also makes this a great space for hanging out to work or catch up with friends without waiting for servers.
Cute, midsized bakery and cafe that makes specialty coffees and baked goods. We stopped in to try their raspberry rugulach, banana pudding, strawberry shortcake and chocolate covered strawberry. All items were fresh and tasty. The strawberry cup at $12 with 6 enormous strawberry was really nice! They have a nice variety of celebratory cakes and gluten free products. 4 stars because they lacked service. Not welcoming at all. After purchasing several items the cashier handed them to me in my hand, when I asked for a bag she replied 'we don't have them' and that was it! Very nice products and with improvement in customer service can easily be a 5 star bakery and cafe.
Sweet Kitchen is FANTASTIC!!! When we first walked in, I was a little apprehensive because it was super packed. But service was quick and we were able to get a table pretty much right away. I ordered the menemen eggs, a dish I had never had anywhere before, and it blew my mind. It was bursting with flavor and the naan bread that came with it was so light and perfect. I also had a really good dirty chai. My husband ordered oatmeal, eggs, and coffee and also thoroughly enjoyed his meal. We really should've written down our server's name because she was so energetic and welcoming. We would absolutely come back here, and wholeheartedly recommend it if you're in the area.
Ventured off to Sweet Kitchen because I was going to be in the area AND because I was here to pick up my Too Good To Go goodie bag. A friend told me about the app months ago and so fellow Yelp Philly member in December. I just never had the opportunity since my area is so rural. When I got to Sweet Kitchen, my bag was ready and waiting so I applaud them for being so efficient. The staff wasn't all that friendly BUT they were quick and on it so pick your poison. Sweet Kitchen was such a cute shop. LOTS of seating, great music, and even a fireplace-ish. The place is a little worn but it's super clean and organized. The pastry case was full with cheesecakes, layered cakes, tarts, tiramisu, and all. They had soooo many baked goods as well. Savory and sweet. And even a Gluten Free section as well. Smoothies. Teas. Coffees. You name it. A proper café! I got an Americano to go with my goodie bag which turned out to be 4 HUGE slices of Red Velvet Cake. It was delicious and the surprise twist: they had raspberries between the layers! So yum!
Ambience: 5/5, a blend of coffee shop and brunch spot. Service is friendly, it's not too loud, still lively but not overcrowded Food 4/5. Was able to come here and be seated right away after a different brunch spot had a 1.5 hour wait. French toast (perfectly cooked with a vanilla sauce that hit the spot) and steak sandwich (was impressed by the baguette and how well the flavors came together) were excellent. The eggs benedict was good.
Lovely spot for brunch in Montclair! I have been a few times now for both pastry and full plates. Service is friendly, though I feel like the functionality of the restaurant seems more focused on bakery/cafe to go since there's not formal way of getting a table. This is despite there being lots of seating! I never like to just sit down and expect to get service, so you gotta ask at the counter and take menus from there. Other than that, the place is truly lovely. AND it can get busy since it's popular, so be ready to order!
Cute little cafe in downtown Montclair! The decorations are floral and rustic looking and it really sets a good vibe for studying, coffee dates, or studying with a friend. Seating is self-managed and make sure to pick up after yourselves! Water can be requested by the server if you are planning to dine in, and they'll bring your order right to your table when it's ready. I got to try the decadent and creamy chocolate mousse cake, and it was an ENORMOUS slice! Definitely worth the price! The mousse was very sweet and chocolately, so the chocolate sponge on the bottom definitely helped to break up the taste and make a more complex flavor. This parred with a black coffee or tea would be amazinggg. My friend also got the tres leches which seemed creamy and fresh. I definitely will be going back to check out their other menu items, maybe a savory one now that I know their sweets are the real deal. Great post-dinner dessert spot!
This café felt like home. The staff was super warm, genuinely kind and great at explaining what was on the menu. I would highly recommend coming to this café if you're looking to meet up with a new friend work from home at a café or give yourself a solo date. I definitely want to come back for the macaroons and some of the pastries. I loved my tea combo. The only thing I would say is that the bench chairs are a little higher than the four legged chairs, which was a little awkward.
This a cute small bakery you can sit down and eat or take to go. The staff is very friendly and will answer any question you have about every they have on display. The cookies were good and the coconut circles were great, I forgot the name of it but it has figs and it was tasty. read more

I used to love this place, but this was a waste of money. Spent over $30 and didn't enjoy anything. The chocolate macarons were dry and crumbly. The brownie which used to be moist and chewy, had more of a cake texture and was dry on the outside as thought it was old. The Poseidon watermelon smoothie tasted like morning. It was lemon, watermelon and strawberry, blended with ice, so it tasted like nothing. If the watermelon isn't sweet it would make sense to not blend with ice but to blend with apple juice to bring out the fruity flavors. read more

Really enjoyed this small brunch spot. They had some cute decorations inside and also offered outdoor seating. Ordered the croissant sandwich with avocado and it was delicious. The portion size was generous and the owner was very nice. Will definitely be coming back to try their sweets. read more

Sweet Kitchen has a warm presence. The food is presented and cooked well, it has a fresh taste. It's a very small and intimate setting and offers indoor and outdoor dining. Sorry forgot to take a picture of the food! The service was great! I would definitely revisit Sweet Kitchen and try other dishes! read more

I CANNOT believe I waited so long to come here! Places like Sweet Kitchen are what I look for to give 5 stars. I came in on a rainy Saturday morning on a whim and ended up having the best breakfast in a long time. I didn't exactly know what to anticipate coming here so I walked in looked at the menu which was up by the pastries and decided to get the mushrooms, spinach and feta cream. I don't often get crepe but I was definitely in the mood for this. The flavors were delicious and each night was better than last. It came with a small salad on the side which was the perfect compliment to the crepe. My mother ended up just getting an americano and the staff were very accommodating and helpful to make sure she had it made just right. The food came out shortly after we ordered and the young man helping the tables was excellent. He was there but when you needed him but not too much to compromise the experience of dining in. Again, this was such a great meal and experience and I already can't wait to go back!! read more
So it's been over 2 years since I've been to this place. I decided the smoothies were always good here. Unfortunately, I don't know if it's the help or supplies but the smoothie was terrible. I always got the Apollo smoothie - avocado, banana, Greek yogurt and honey. I didn't taste any banana or avocado. I could only taste the Greek yogurt. I also got a chocolate chip scone which was ok. It was a bit dry but more palatable than the smoothie, hence the two stars. I will not be back and I suggest you go at your own risk. We were strolling through the area and randomly stumbled upon Sweet Kitchen for a sweet treat. We were greeted by the welcoming and helpful owners right away. I came near closing time, so it wasn't a surprise that the selection of their baked goods was limited. They had many irresistible pastries in their dessert counter, and knowing me, I couldn't say no to the chocolate mousse dessert (even though I wanted to try everything). It was so delicious and you could tell it was fresh. The place is very clean and has a decent amount of seats. The atmosphere is perfect for a date or to catch up with friends. I'll definitely be back to try their coffee and more pastries! read more
Nice little addition to Bloomfield Ave in Montclair. Located right on the corner of Park Street, the wife and I decided to to stop in while taking a walk. I must say the owner was very pleasant and engaging. Seemed very passionate about his creations as he explained. We selected a few different items and took them home. There's plenty of seating inside, so feel free to stay. We live in the neighborhood and pass by many times. When open there's a nice steady stream of patrons. Well, back to the tasty treats. While I can't remember any names we enjoyed them all! One day we'll stay and enjoy in the cafe environment, but no doubt I'll be back again and again. read more

Oh. My. Goodness.!!! Where do I begin! Absolutely amazing from beginning to end! This place is located on busy Bloomfield Ave so you already know the deal with the parking situation lol But I found street parking in a nabe not too far away I can't believe it's taken me this long to check this place out. What a gem! Food was fantastic and I didn't realize that they have an IMPRESSIVE (with capital I) dessert spread! So difficult to decide what goodies to get! I like to try several different things when I try a new place to determine if I will become a regular patron, and this place, my friends, checks off all the boxes! It's that good! Let me start with the service. I'm not certain but it appears that this might be family run. The young lady that served us was so pleasant and had a very cute disposition, although my order challenged her, she hung in there and delivered! They don't have an extensive menu but the items are all equally intriguing so you must step out and try something different. I had the ever so popular pastrami egg and cheddar on croissant and boy oh boy was that sandwich delicious! My friend had the salmon with poached eggs and avocado and she liked that as well! I also got two smoothies, and they both were delicious, Green Goddess and Artemis made with pineapple and mint, so refreshing! My friend had a berry smoothie and was pleased as well. Now for the DESSERT! Omg pastries galore! Trouble for someone with a terrible sweet tooth like myself I settled on the orange cake and that was SO GOOD, that I'm still thinking about it and tasting it days later! Hands down my favorite place in New Jersey to grab brunch. Sweet Kitchen serves up the best assortment of brunch basics. For those that have a sweet tooth but also want savory options, this is your place! I've complied a list of a few of my favorite eats. Been here about twice now. This is one of the places that makes Montclair. The food is great. I had the Sunny Avocado Toast a couple of times and I absolutely love it. Don't be fooled by the size, this plate is pretty filling. read more
I came here for Brunch on a beautiful Sunday morning in January. I had read amazing Yelp reviews so I figured I'd give this place a go! THE FOOD: I really enjoyed my meal! My boyfriend ordered the avocado toast and I got the grilled cheese. Both were superb! I would probably order both again. We both also ordered the chai tea latte with almond milk, which was nicely spiced, actually was a little spicy. Lastly, before we left the store we ordered the raspberry mousse cake, which was delicious, just a little pricey for my liking ($6.00). THE SERVICE: I'm not really a fan of the setup of the brunch store. You order at the counter and then find a seat and someone brings you your food. This works at many places, however, I felt like Sweet Kitchen was SO busy that it was a little chaotic at some point. However, the lady who served us was super sweet and very helpful! We had a lovely breakfast here the other morning! Lots of yummy pastries and coffee options, the breakfast menu wasn't huge but had something for everyone. Lots of seating outside, and a decent space inside. The food was fresh and delicious and the service was phenomenal. Dogs are seemingly allowed inside and outside. 3.5 stars Inside looks cool, the desserts look cool, the taste is just OK to good. The desserts look pretty and some even have glitter on it and are shiny; however the taste does not match the design. I am also glad it tasted fresh and not old. I settled on a pistachio and chocolate mousse. I've tasted much better chocolate mousses and the pistachio though somewhat tasty, tastes more like a egg flavor in between of custard and mousse. I would come here again but I would not expect an excellent flavor profile but hey, it works! I haven't tried the drinks yet. The pink box did look cute and these desserts would make the perfect gift to bring to someone. read more

Came here after dinner at Mesob and I am so so glad that we stopped by! I am definitely coming back to try their food! We tried their pistachio mousse and chocolate cake. The desserts were so moist, soft, fluffy and gourmet. Never have u had such amazing pistachio mousse with no artificial flavors added. Also one thing to not about their desserts is it's not super sweet just mildly sweet which is perfect!!! Ambience is amazing and the dessert options are to die for! Coming back soon ! read more

This is a gem!!! The place is very clean, great decor and awesome music. As you walk into the place you will smell the coffee brewing and listen to some relaxing music, you will notice the great decor and smiling faces behind the bakery counter. So I've only been here once but I did enjoy my experience. The Avocado toast was good and the bread they use, whatever it was, was so good. I think everything comes with a salad. My fiancé enjoyed his turkey sandwich and my son, who's a picky eater, enjoyed his cheese and egg sandwich with bacon. I would like to try other items on the menu also so I'll be back when I come back home. I have a friend that's organic everything so it would e been great for them to have organic options especially at this price. If they are, I apologize but I meant to ask since I did not see it anywhere. read more

This is the kind of place you may have to tell the server to bus the tables, the trick here is that you have to go up to the counter a order otherwise you'll be waiting for a long time to be served the food is good with nice atmosphere and a pleasant vibe however this is why it's so expensive a lemonade is 8 bucks the food and pastries are super overpriced the service need much to be required and lots of room to make adjustments. I'm a senior and sometimes ignored for service. It almost seems as though the counter attendant are to busy talking to their colleagues than to the customers but that's just my experience, I usually come to this establishment to map out my weeks to come and on occasion meet up with friends or familiar people. Please don't get me wrong for the most part I enjoy coffee here however this place for the price can use improvements. I say all this with Love! read more

Is it ok if I meet somebody here for a cup of coffee or is this more of a sit-down restaurant? It seems like a cute little cafe but when I look at the menus it seems like more of a place where they expect you to order food.
I hope you found an answer sooner, but for others wondering the same: this is definitely a place to meet someone for coffee. No pressure to order more than coffee and/or baked goods. You will want at least those anyway!
