Food was good, made the mistake of going on a Friday evening at 8pm and it was crowded and loud. It took close to an hour to get our food from the moment we were seated. We noticed pick up orders took preference over dining in orders. The service was adequate, nothing extraordinary. Would probably recommend visiting on a weekday when it's not so busy or just go to a different location. Besides the experience we had, the food was good, they have good customizable options for different preferences.

WOW! I had posted a review a couple of weeks ago with a low rating and the business reached out, listened to what I had to say, and asked me to come back and give them another try with a complimentary dinner for two. First off, the customer service: top notch. The care they put into making things right and listening to what their clientele have to say is something that not a lot of other businesses have. I decided to take them up on their offer and made a reservation for a Friday night. The place wasn't as busy as I had expected it to be when we walked in but it got busier as the time passed, yet our waitress never made it seem like we weren't her priority. I gave their bao buns another try, but this time ordered the shrimp. The buns were so much better, with the pillowy texture I love; the shrimp was crunchy and crispy yet savory and tender, truly a must try! I ordered their spicy tonkotsu ramen and my boyfriend got their wagyu ramen. The tonkotsu broth was good, it had the oily taste transferred from the pork but it didn't make it greasy, it rather enhanced the flavor; the pork was outstanding, I usually don't eat the pork in tonkotsu ramen because it comes out chewy, but this one was beautifully tender, "falling-off-the-bone" kind of tender; the noodles were good but what I really loved was the egg, it is an extra add-on to the ramen which is different than in most ramen places, but it is so worth it! The yolk is runny and mixing it with the ramen broth gives it a great flavor. The broth of the wagyu ramen was delicious - I believe it was chicken broth - and it paired well with the wagyu. The wagyu was nice and tender, and definitely very filling. For drinks we got their passion fruit lemonade and strawberry Japanese soda. The lemonade was delicious! I'm very picky with passion fruit as it tends to taste artificial in most places, but this one paired well with the lemon. The Japanese soda was quite interesting to figure out how to open haha! We managed to do so though and the flavor was great, definitely fruity but it didn't taste as artificial as American sodas. Overall, I have been blown away by everything. Their service is amazing, the care they put into their business shows, and the food speaks for it. Please give them a try.

The location is on a busy street however we did find parking on a side street and walked to enjoy the area. We walked in and the place is small but fits a lot of people and everything was clean. I ordered short rib ramen , shrimp skewers, miso wings and pork belly dumplings. The Ramen was a 10/10 . Really enjoyed how soft the short rib was and the flavor combined with broth was excellent. The shrimp skewers were 3/10 as they were over cooked (burned on the other side) and super spicy for me. The dumplings were amazing and the flavor popped (10/10) and lastly the wings. The flavor was top tier and gave an amazing crunch. Overall I was very satisfied with the service, food and ambiance. I would def return to try more things on the menu. Thank you for a good experience.

Came here for an early NYE dinner with my wife and 7 month old. We had a nice time. Staff were very accommodating and friendly on a busy night. All smile from everyone on the staff. We ordered dumplings and edamame for appetizers, came out fast and both dishes were good. The ramen dishes we ordered were great. They were tasty and well priced for the area... The over vibe of the restaurant is clean and good ambient lighting. We enjoyed it and will come back soon for more!

Ani Ramen is a go-to for quick and good quality ramen dishes and bao buns! In the heart of downtown Montclair, it is a perfect location to walk in and grab a bite for lunch or dinner. Inside, the walls are covered in this cool artwork with a combination of dimmed lighting gives it a moody vibe. For the location, I think all the dishes are reasonably priced and always consistent in making good food. My favorite ramen will always be the Chef Special which features chicken broth with chili paste, chives, garlic, ginger, onion, lemongrass, and shallot giving it robust flavor. It can get busy at night, but you are able to make reservations through resy to help avoid a wait!

We love the short rib ramen...the whole family orders it their specific way and it is savory and delicious. The service is very good, and the ambiance is very nice (Japanese comics on the walls, a good fit) and had nice music playing. We will definitely be coming back!

This was a stop while in town that we wanted to try out. We ordered gyoza as an appetizer which was so good. We each got a bowl of ramen that was pretty lackluster unfortunately. I loved the noodles and the pork belly. I do think it was overpriced for what we got which was sad. The vibe was cool and the decor was cute but not the best ramen I've had.

First time here and I was very pleased. We came at lunch time on a Tuesday and the place was quiet so we got our order fast. Some of the best ramen I've had. It's BYOB which I didn't see them advertise but it's okay because if you forgot to bring something, there's a liquor store 2 stores down. Very convenient. Great staff and excellent service. Will definitely be returning.

I love breakfast but I don't like feeling full when I'm flying. I got to the airport around 4:30AM and didn't eat until after I checked into my hotel. I wasn't feeling well. Maybe the hunger or maybe the hot temperature and humidity threw me off but all I wanted was Asian soup. That could be Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, or Japanese. I was craving pho but I didn't want to DoorDash, so I checked my Yelp app and walked only 2 blocks to arrive here. Vibrant and unique decor. The atmosphere was loud (loud music), but it drowned out my exhaustion. The service was genuine, welcoming. I waited under 15 minutes for my order. The pork belly was soft and tender. It was like butter. The broth was light and rich at the same time. The soft-boiled egg was a delicious touch to my bowl. Not sure when I'll be back for work, but I hope to never go in the summer.

Excellent ramen ! We went here for my friend's birthday and really enjoyed it . The ambiance is hip and casual and our server was very friendly . I ordered edamame and the ani ramen dish . The portions are huge plus the price is very decent , definitely worth a try !

Spicy Miso Ramen + extra pork belly

Great place to try if you are around the area! I tried both the chicken and pork belly bao buns. The buns were really soft and was bursting with flavor. Both meats were really juicy and its hard to pick a favorite out of the two. I thought they were delicious and definitely a must try. They were a great appetizer and almost as tempting enough to come back just for it. It was great enough to ordee more after the ramen. The ramen itself was pretty good. I shared both the spicy miso and chef's special. The pork belly was tender that it was barely not falling apart picking it up. The eggs were beautifully cooked and soft. The broth (both the spicy miso and from the chef's special) were good compliments to the ramen. The noodles could have been slightly more cooked. The place itself is very lively with dimmed lighting. Their decorations and art on the wall is fantastic and adds to the vibe well. The staff are friendly and professional. I would recommend this place to try at least once. It is pricey for everything and would only come every once in a while. Not a fast food price range but within the range of a sit-down restaurant price you could expect. I would definitely come back for the bao buns and if I'm craving ramen when I'm around the area. This place although wouldn't be my top spot but definitely up there as really solid and definitely would consider coming back.

Can never go wrong with this Ramen spot! Vibe is super cool inside, music is always on point and obviously the Ramen is super tasty. Usually there's a big line when the weather is nice and on the weekend but we were able to get a table as soon as we walked in which was nice. Chefs Ramen is my favorite and you already know we had to add a marinated egg to it. Full of flavor and balanced is this Ramen. Don't forget to add some bao buns as an appetizer before and you're set. Don't forge this place is also BYO as most places in Montclair are so pair it with your favorite wine.

The town it self was having some pavement work being done and it was difficult to find parking. I was driving away when I eventually found a spot and walked about 6 minutes to the location. As I got there I could see that the restaurant was full and lively. The hostess was friendly and communicated our wait well. It did look like that they were struggling a bit with tables staying longer than they expected which caused a few reservations to be backed up while we were the walkins. I do recommend getting reservations here. I/we ordered a ramen, the cola wings, and the detroit style pizza. They were nice enough to separate the single serving of ramen into two bowls which was really nice of them. The Ramen was good but a bit salty. The cola wings were alright I wouldn't say they were the best I ever had. As for the pizza it was good, however when comparing with similar offerings in the area, Buckys in Chatam, NJ is superior for Detroit style. While, the this particular place did not meet MY standards I would still recommend as a nice date spot!

Barely any sauce as well to dip. Signature Tonkatsu Ramen $20 - Good! Best part was the egg! I've had better ramen elsewhere. For $20 I expected more flavor and fillings. You can definitely customize and add, but at this price point I would rather have had base start at $24 and include wood ears, more veggies, bamboo, etc. Mine was basically the fat part of pork slices with 20% meat, one veggie, whole egg (which definitely was excellent), and a good broth. Thin ramen on this one, but again I've had much better broth, noodles and fillings. Burnt Honey Calamansi Tea $8- very good for about 12-14oz, but expensive. I understand Calamansi is not typical here in north Jersey and I'm certain they pay higher pricing wholesale, but it wasn't that superb to pay $8 for again. I really teetered with this review for days as I wanted to give 4 stars for local support and the chef's passion, but I simply won't pretend we loved this. The fish was incredibly fresh, the rolls were well balanced, and everything came out looking as good as it tasted. What stood out to me most was the consistency and attention to detail. The staff was friendly, service flowed smoothly, and the atmosphere made it easy to relax and enjoy the meal. It's always nice to support places that clearly care about their craft. If you love good sushi, this restaurant is absolutely worth a visit. I'm already looking forward to coming back.

If you are a true sushi purist, you know that the best experiences often hide behind the most…read moreunassuming storefronts. This place is the definition of a hidden gem--a masterclass in traditional sushi sitting quietly on a culinary wasteland of a street. The commitment to quality here is staggering. This isn't your standard neighborhood joint slinging spicy mayo rolls; the seafood here boasts absolute freshness, with rare fish flown in weekly directly from Japan. You will find cuts here that are nearly impossible to source at standard sushi restaurants, elevating the experience to something you'd typically only find at an exclusive omakase counter. Let's talk about the tuna. The vast majority of sushi spots try to pass off cheap, frozen yellowfin as a premium offering. Not here. They source incredibly high-quality Spanish Bluefin--the exact same caliber of fish utilized by Michelin-starred establishments. What truly sets them apart is their ability to offer the complete trinity of bluefin cuts: the deep, ruby-red lean akami, the perfectly marbled chu-toro, and the rich, melt-in-your-mouth o-toro. The menu reads like a love letter to the ocean. Finding high-grade yellowtail belly can be a challenge, but here, it is a staple of exceptional quality. For those with an adventurous and educated palate, the chefs regularly feature incredibly hard-to-find selections like itoyori (golden threadfin bream), mejina (opaleye), and a luxuriously rich fatty bonito. The uni deserves its own paragraph. Sea urchin can be a gamble at lesser restaurants, but here it is pristine. On any given night, you might be lucky enough to find both creamy California uni and the briny, delicate Hokkaido uni available for side-by-side comparison. Another testament to their traditional approach and culinary respect is how they utilize the week's fresh catch to craft a warm, incredibly tasty fish head soup. It is a deeply comforting, umami-rich broth that extracts every ounce of flavor from the premium seafood they bring in, showcasing a level of authenticity you rarely see anymore. While the menu does offer French-inspired dishes and various hot kitchen items, let me be clear: you are here for the sushi. The hot food isn't bad by any means, but if you truly want a culinary experience, do not waste precious stomach space on it. You are here for the raw fish. The singular exception to this rule is the pork gyoza--they are remarkably juicy and absolutely worth the order. Do not skip dessert. In many sushi restaurants, desserts are an afterthought, but here they are top-notch and entirely homemade. The Japanese flan is impossibly silky and decadent. However, the true star is the crème brûlée cheesecake--it is remarkably smooth, slicing effortlessly at the touch of a fork, with a deeply satisfying flavor profile that entirely avoids being overly sweet. I have to address the elephant in the neighborhood: this place absolutely destroys Morimoto down the street. Morimoto has become a tourist trap resting on a recognizable name, employing inexperienced chefs to cater to the sheep-like masses who prioritize a flashy dining room over authentic taste. If you actually understand and respect true sushi, you skip the theatrical nonsense down the street and come here. Let's also be brutally honest about the price point: excellence comes at a premium. This is an uncompromising, high-end culinary experience, and the bill reflects the quality of ingredients flown in from Japan. If you are a bargain hunter, looking for cheap eats, or aren't willing to pay for top-tier craftsmanship, save your time and look elsewhere. This establishment is for serious diners who understand the value of good sushi and aren't just looking for a good enough "AYCE" experience.

My last favorite was in a food court inside of a mall!" "It feels like it's the next evolution in the Tommy's Tavern-Tio Taco's takeover of high-quality spots all across our great state!" (But each statement is said, and meant, with sincerity.) It's large (high ceilings adding to the 'wow factor'). It has a great look and vibe. The entire staff are profusely positive. As for the ramen... the broth was chock-a-block with flavor and veggies and noodles and a whole array of goodies (black oil, crispy garlic nubs, creamy tofu, you name it). The Mrs. (who is the real connoisseur when it comes to ramen, I'm just a wannabe) thought the portion was a bit on the 'wimpy' side (for the price) but I was content. (We arrived at the tail-end of happy hour, so maybe I was a bit more forgiving since the bill wasn't as bad as it could've-would've been.)

The selection is inclusive, with ramen options for vegans and those who don't eat pork. And the pièce de résistance: the takoyaki. I consider myself somewhat of a takoyaki connoisseur. If it's on the menu, I order. Their takoyaki is BOMB. It's perfectly creamy inside and rests atop this delicious velvety ricotta-like sauce, excellent sauce assortment (the usuals), and I like the shredded bonito, ALL GOOD. Not a ton of octopus in there (about 1-2 pieces in each) but I wasn't mad. I was actually very very happy. Now the sad is that their main event, the ramen, was pretty underwhelming. I ordered the chicken ramen. The issue that really docks points is that the broth was just not right. It was over-reduced, or something otherwise went wrong because the texture was less creamy and more...thickened? Viscous? Unpleasant. It left this slightly gritty strange coating on the tongue. Also, it tasted like straight up bones and water. Severely under-seasoned. And the measly slices of chicken (give us 4 if they're going to be that small) did not have a touch of much-needed salt. The noodles were seasoned very well though, so I did enjoy those bites especially when I doused that baby in their delicious spicy sauce. The seasoned egg was nice and I'm glad it came with one whole egg and not a half. Also glad the bowl came with spinach because lord knows we need more fiber. As I ate the noodles, I enjoyed the bowl, but I couldn't slurp the soup. That's arguably at least half the experience, right? I want to give 4 stars because genuinely, that takoyaki is GOLD. That alone is like eight stars, off the charts. However, this is a ramen spot. The ramen is, alas, important.
