This place was MIDDDDDDD. Overpriced. The staff did not attend to us well. People are having boring conversations. The sushi was fresh but not anything that I felt was worth the $130 I spent. The location was cool though and had some art from the regulars.

I love Kim's! I was introduced to Kim's years ago and when I ordered for myself it was during Covid times so I never had a chance to sit in. This past weekend I was able to dine in with my friend around 5:30 pm on a Sunday and we were able to be seated. I did call in advance to find out about reservations and they said it was first come first serve no reservations. We were stared off with complimentary miso soup and salad with house dressing, that dressing was incredible. My friend ordered the edamame and I ordered the Kani salad it was so fresh and refreshing. My friend ordered the Philadelphia speciality roll, I ordered the west orange roll and we both shared the Tony roll. I love that you can have certain rolls deep fried, or the choice of protein seared or grilled so many options and so fresh! The location is pretty small but mighty! Love it and can't recommend enough

was not impressed. Very inauthentic, and simply didn't really enjoy it too much. A lot of fried roll options which felt pretty heavy but even their traditional rolls weren't anything to write home about. Pretty cramped space getting in and between tables and oh my lord the bathroom ... my big boyfriend couldn't even fit in there. so tiny!!! Service was kind, but the food took around 45 minutes to come out. Overall, i didn't absolutely hate this place but i definitely wouldn't recommend or return.

I really enjoyed Kim's sushi. The service was great very attentive. The Marcelo roll was my favorite. I was full after one but my husband had to order another. The restaurant is cozy so you should get there early. If you're a sushi novice you will like the seared options as well as the tempura options. I enjoyed the freshness of the tuna and I will definitely be trying their sister restaurant Ilpoom.

This was such a great find! The sushi is so fresh and delicious! The service was great as well! The staff makes sure you are taken care of and you can see that they are so many returning customers. We got some rolls and some sashimi pieces and everything was really good! We'll definitely be coming back!

Went for a solo dinner after work. Here are my thoughts: Atmosphere: casual, cozy Decor: Asian inspired, walls have framed post it notes from customers Music: elevator music Food: morris roll, edamame, miso soup, house salad with ginger dressing, pork & leek gyoza -- All the food was so tasty. Their miso soup is probably the best I've ever had (not exaggerating!) Drinks: had a hot tea. Not sure if they serve alcoholic beverages Service: super fast and friendly Good for: quick casual lunch/dinner

There is truly no place like Kim's Sushi. You are always greeted with friendly faces, served complimentary miso soup and salad (per entree), and surrounded by hand written post-it notes from people who love Kim's Sushi as much as you will! WOW. Honestly I was skeptical when my fiance's family insisted we come here for dinner recently. It doesn't look like much even as you pull into the parking lot. But WOW the food is good. Everything tasted ao high quality and you can tell how much they care about what they put on the plate. My sushi rolls were great, but the salmon sashimi appetizer they comped us was a real star. It was as good as any omakase I have had in NYC!

I've loved Kim's sushi ever since their original restaurant in Lincoln Park. They used to sell fresh seafood in their restaurant i the original location. We've always love their dragon roll, shrimp salad roll, Philadelphia roll. After the next gen took over, they kept the classic rolls and got creative with their rolls and added a wide selection of rolls with the right combination of ingredients. We like Jorge, French kiss, volcano, Elizabeth roll. But we have not had any bad roll from Kim's. It is true that it's own by Koreans, but Kim's sushi just has a flavor that no other sushi restaurant has. You'll have to try it to understand. Service is always excellent both for takeout and dine-in (back in the days but I heard the dining room has been reopened). The decor is also modern and friendly. We ordered a sushi boat for takeout this time. Everything was great. Must try sushi restaurant.

Sushi dives are rare. Sushi dives with outstanding food are even more rare. If you're looking to devour some amazing sushi and, like me, could care less about the ambience then Kim's is most certainly for you. The quality is fantastic, prices reasonable and decor dismal. But the decor is all part of the charm. And if you decide to eat there and aren't sure about the food, the constant barrage of people wandering in and out to pick up what seems to be endless takeout orders should probably convince you. This is a local gem unlike any other. They also have a lease on another location in Livingston (old 88 Cafe) that they assure me should be open by May. Meantime, the 10 minute trek to West Orange is a small price to pay for something so delicious.

From the wait staff to the bus staff, everyone was running around like crazy. The table next to us, I heard them ask for the manager because they messed up an order with an allergy associated with it. Not good. First things first.. we got out miso soup and my bowl had rice stuck to it on the outside. I thought it was weird but I brushed it off because it was just on the outside. House salad was fine. But one of the women bussing tables tried to bring us a second salad because they were clearly overworked and overly busy. I am currently disgusted because I got to the end of my drink and there was the same old rice at the bottom of my cup as there was on the outside of the miso soup bowl. The sushi was fine. I think it's becoming more noticeable that they drench their rolls in sauce to possibly hide the quality of the fish. I'm not saying it was fishy at all, but wow the sauce is so overwhelming. I got the Elizabeth roll and I had one piece - it had too much sauce so I took some off the top and thought it would fix it. Nope. The entire inside of the roll was so unpleasantly soft and tasted like sauce and mayo.. I am still nauseated thinking about that bite. I didn't taste any piece of fish. I am so so disappointed. The seafood pancake had very long strands of squid which were hard to chew through. Another time that I ordered the seafood pancake. Everything was chopped up in small bites and it was a much more pleasant experience. Lastly.. they bussed our table and left our half eaten food on the floor next to us because I guess they were so busy they forgot about it. It was very chaotic in there last night. They brought us the wrong mochi ad well. It seemed like they were focused on getting people tables instead of pushing out quality food. Very disappointing.

If you love good sushi, this restaurant is absolutely worth a visit. I'm already looking forward to coming back.

If you are a true sushi purist, you know that the best experiences often hide behind the most…read moreunassuming storefronts. This place is the definition of a hidden gem--a masterclass in traditional sushi sitting quietly on a culinary wasteland of a street. The commitment to quality here is staggering. This isn't your standard neighborhood joint slinging spicy mayo rolls; the seafood here boasts absolute freshness, with rare fish flown in weekly directly from Japan. You will find cuts here that are nearly impossible to source at standard sushi restaurants, elevating the experience to something you'd typically only find at an exclusive omakase counter. Let's talk about the tuna. The vast majority of sushi spots try to pass off cheap, frozen yellowfin as a premium offering. Not here. They source incredibly high-quality Spanish Bluefin--the exact same caliber of fish utilized by Michelin-starred establishments. What truly sets them apart is their ability to offer the complete trinity of bluefin cuts: the deep, ruby-red lean akami, the perfectly marbled chu-toro, and the rich, melt-in-your-mouth o-toro. The menu reads like a love letter to the ocean. Finding high-grade yellowtail belly can be a challenge, but here, it is a staple of exceptional quality. For those with an adventurous and educated palate, the chefs regularly feature incredibly hard-to-find selections like itoyori (golden threadfin bream), mejina (opaleye), and a luxuriously rich fatty bonito. The uni deserves its own paragraph. Sea urchin can be a gamble at lesser restaurants, but here it is pristine. On any given night, you might be lucky enough to find both creamy California uni and the briny, delicate Hokkaido uni available for side-by-side comparison. Another testament to their traditional approach and culinary respect is how they utilize the week's fresh catch to craft a warm, incredibly tasty fish head soup. It is a deeply comforting, umami-rich broth that extracts every ounce of flavor from the premium seafood they bring in, showcasing a level of authenticity you rarely see anymore. While the menu does offer French-inspired dishes and various hot kitchen items, let me be clear: you are here for the sushi. The hot food isn't bad by any means, but if you truly want a culinary experience, do not waste precious stomach space on it. You are here for the raw fish. The singular exception to this rule is the pork gyoza--they are remarkably juicy and absolutely worth the order. Do not skip dessert. In many sushi restaurants, desserts are an afterthought, but here they are top-notch and entirely homemade. The Japanese flan is impossibly silky and decadent. However, the true star is the crème brûlée cheesecake--it is remarkably smooth, slicing effortlessly at the touch of a fork, with a deeply satisfying flavor profile that entirely avoids being overly sweet. I have to address the elephant in the neighborhood: this place absolutely destroys Morimoto down the street. Morimoto has become a tourist trap resting on a recognizable name, employing inexperienced chefs to cater to the sheep-like masses who prioritize a flashy dining room over authentic taste. If you actually understand and respect true sushi, you skip the theatrical nonsense down the street and come here. Let's also be brutally honest about the price point: excellence comes at a premium. This is an uncompromising, high-end culinary experience, and the bill reflects the quality of ingredients flown in from Japan. If you are a bargain hunter, looking for cheap eats, or aren't willing to pay for top-tier craftsmanship, save your time and look elsewhere. This establishment is for serious diners who understand the value of good sushi and aren't just looking for a good enough "AYCE" experience.
