Came here with a friend on a weekday for lunch. Very affordable lunch specials with very quick service! I replaced my California roll for a sweet potato roll which was yummy. The only thing I didn't truly love was the chicken. It was a little weird tasting to me and I didn't love the veggies it came with. I'm used to broccoli and carrots but this was different. Went to a Aki for the first time last week with a friend for a quick lunch catch up. It's a pretty standard Japanese place. It wasn't busy for dine in for lunch and service was great. Our waitress was on top of everything, refilling waters and checking in on us which was nice. I enjoyed my lunch. The scallion pancakes were definitely the highlight though. They were super crispy and flaky and just all-around delicious. I like that the lunch specials are highly customizable with a lot of different options, including rolls, soup and salad. I really liked the wonton soup that I got. All in all I'm happy, I got to try a new lunch spot and I'll definitely come back if I'm ever in the area. read more

We went to Aki for my bf's birthday after we couldn't make it for a reservation at another restaurant. I saw some of the negative reviews on Yelp but after dining here, I honestly don't understand how they have a bad rating! The service was amazing, the waitress (sadly I didn't get her name) was really energetic, very polite and just great. The food was fresh and so yummy! Sashimi and sushi was spot on. The General Tao's Chicken was delicious, my bf finds a lot of places don't get the sauce right or the texture is odd but Aki has the recipe to perfection. Price is reasonable. Also the waitress was more than happy to help me put the cake in the fridge, take it out with candles prepared and the custom topper I bought. In the rush of getting the cake and everything I had forgot candles and lighter, thankfully Aki had some on hand. You're a lifesaver! The only cons I would have is that the restaurant was a bit cold- our table was right next to the door so it would be expected. And the bubble tea was more of a slush with a lot of tiny crushed ice, bubbles were a bit hard. But for $4 and convenience, not bad. All in all it was a lovely dining experience. Very glad we found this place, would come here again if I'm in the area. Tips for parking! Street parking was hard to find and we arrived around 5pm on a Friday, Glenwood Garage is just around the corner next to the Buy-Rite Wine & Liquor store. It's a 2 min walk from the restaurant. It was only $1 a hr (unheard of?? Cheapest parking I've ever seen lol) and for 2 hrs max. But additional is $1 per hr I believe? Not sure tbh. We stayed just slightly over and it only charged me $2. I've ordered delivery for years but this was my first time visiting their location. Paid parking is the only option but it's cheap and a few short steps away. Once I got inside it was absolutely freezing with the A/C on blast. So if you are sensitive like me I would recommend a light jacket or scarf. So I ran to the car to grab a jacket and by the time I returned the A/C had been lowered. I thought that was so kind of the staff to notice and do something about it. The interior was spacious and the ambiance was dimly lit with bright trimming. The setting actually works perfect for a family meal, business eats and a romantic date. The service was made up of some very warm and welcoming employees that checked up several times to make sure we were taken care of. And I noticed that there was a long standing patron enjoying a mini conversation with the owner before the rest of their party arrived. So I knew that these folks provided great customer service on site. As for the food, I can't speak to anything raw since I do not eat it but when I tell you these people are consistently good- I mean it. Their food is always fresh and tasty. And the packaging for delivery remains in tact. Between the conversation and the ambiance I was surprised to see how fast those 4 rolls disappeared between our party of 2. First time here and the sushi was amazing, but the service was lackluster. We were seated immediately and our drink order was taken shortly after. After we received our drink the woman who was helping us hurried to the kitchen and didn't come back for about 12 mins. That happened all throughout our meal. The rolls were delicious! Fresh and flavorful. We had the shrimp temperature roll, spicy crab roll, and a specialty roll I can't remember. The shrimp tempura was everyone's favorite, so we ordered another round. Best thing about this sushi location is that they offer more options than just sushi, so non sushi eaters can enjoy a meal here. On the menu I seen rice dishes and other dishes like general tso chicken. Do not waste your money here!!!!! Incredibly disappointing food. I've been to a lot of different sushi places, most have been really great and some have been just "okay". But I've never disliked sushi this much before and I never write food reviews. I feel like I'm the least picky eater and even if the food isn't super tasty I'll tolerate it enough to finish. This is the 1st time I haven't been able to finish my meal, especially sushi! I ordered from Uber Eats - Philadelphia roll, yelllowtail roll, salmon skin roll, and honey walnut shrimp. (Sorry I don't have pics!) Price - now, it may be because I did order from a food app instead of in the restaurant but the prices were ridiculous even for sushi. Up to $10 for each roll (just basic rolls, not even special rolls) and they were all tiny portions, but the worst is the fact that I paid $3 for a cup of spicy Mayo (I usually always get it with all my sushi orders) and the little 2oz cup was LESS THAN HALFWAY filled! I couldn't believe it.. For $3 I thought first of all it would be in a larger container, but even in a small cup I would've hoped they at least fill it up to the max, that's what all other sushi places I order take out from do. There was also no soy sauce or chopsticks in my bag, I guess they just forgot but you would think those are the most standard things to provide for sushi. Luckily I had both those things at home, but it still adds to the negative experience. Sushi rolls - poor packaging of the food because the sushi container sat right on top of the honey walnut shrimp which was hot, no cardboard divider like other take out places do, so when opening the sushi container the cream cheese in the Philly roll was somewhat melted and it felt like the yellowtail went bad or something from the heat, or maybe it was just bad to begin with. The rolls fell apart when trying to eat them - salmon skin roll had a weird taste to it and the yellowtail especially did not taste fresh at all. I only just got into liking yellowtail rolls but this place made me really dislike it. Also the ginger tasted spoiled as well, I've never had "spoiled ginger" before but it did not taste right. I couldn't eat it and I love the ginger usually. Honey walnut shrimp - nothing to write home about. The shrimp was too heavily breaded and the Mayo sauce was too thick, even when trying to heat it up. It was tolerable enough to finish I guess, especially because it was like $25. Also the rice it came with was only 2/3 filled - what is with this place giving a lot less of what should be the bare minimum. After reading other reviews, it makes sense why people are leaving 1-2 stars for this place. Seems like their take out order practices can be majorly approved, actual quality of food is more apparent in take out because you're not swayed by the ambiance of the restaurant. So the owners here should pay more attention to how they're treating their take out orders. It seems like the positive reviews here are mostly from like 1-3 years ago or maybe even from regulars who have been going here for a while, so looks like quality has gone down hill. There's so many other sushi places around this area that are not only cheaper but so much better. I would avoid this place and go to literally any other sushi restaurant. read more

I love this place. Warm service and very tasty food. Their pan-Asian menu has a heavy Japanese focus, but the Thai and Chinese dishes I've tried are excellent too. I've never had less than a delicious meal here. I've had take-out a couple of times but usually eat in their dining room. Comfortable, clean and spacious, with an open sushi bar: it has an upscale feeling without the upscale prices. The bento box lunch special is a great deal. I really enjoy the spicy kimchi ramen. Sushi is fresh and delicious. Triple Crown was perfectly seasoned with fresh, nicely cooked veg. I'm surprised by many negative reviews here. Many people seem disappointed with take out/delivery. The fact that they've survived the pandemic speaks to the quality of this restaurant. Many of the restaurants in this neighborhood were forced to close but Aki is going strong. read more

Amazing food, really fresh, I ordered some Sushi, gyoza, and Pad Thai, everything was really delicious. Honestly it was hard to find Sushi place that's open and deliver and it's decent during this Pandemic going on. I was pleasantly surprised. Pretty blown away by Aki Asian House! We came in on a Friday night, and to my surprise the place was pretty empty, however, we kept seeing to-go orders fly out of the kitchen. The place is super clean and inviting, they have several booths with a couple tables and the sushi bar has seating as well. They were having a blue fin tuna special, so we started with the sashimi as an appetizer, it was literally BUTTER! (it was the belly of the tuna) our waitress recommend we order it and we were glad we listened to her. I had the Aki Salad and a Naruto roll, while my boyfriend ordered a house salad, tuna sashimi and a crazy tuna roll. The food came out fast, it was SUPER fresh and the best part is that they are BYOB. they have an extensive menu and i was super thrilled to find out about this location as i've been strugglign to find a good "Chinese/Japanese" takeout in my area since i recently moved. This place is decent but a bit on the pricier side for what you get. There are a lot of Asian restaurants in a 10 mile radius, but this is a good addition for the area that has cheap Chinese takeout across the street. I had Pad Thai which I thought was comparable to Spice Thai cuisine in town and even a little cheaper. I had some sushi a la carte that was pretty good. My boyfriend got the chicken teriyaki, which was as good as Momoya (although they didn't give us the rice it's supposed to come with). Basically I can't say it's any better than any place in the Bloomfield/Montclair area but it's good. The interior looks really classy and upscale. I got takeout, but it didn't take too long. Stopped here randomly while driving through the area. We needed somewhere to eat and did a Google search for sushi. Turns out it was a great find! The restaurant was clean and neat, and the service was great. Our server recommended the coconut seafood soup since we were undecided about what to get, and it was delicious! It was a Thai style soup with fresh vegetables and shrimp and scallops. Their homemade chicken wontons were delicious, too. The sushi was plated beautifully and was a great value for the price range. Great new place in Bloomfield! Went yesterday for lunch with one of my coworkers, and we were really happy with everything. Food & service are excellent. I had a two-roll combo: tuna and Philadelphia, served with miso soup. My coworker had tuna and salmon rolls, and a salad. Everything was extremely fresh. The place is brand new and has some very nice touches. I adore the little chopstick holders, they are too cute! Their presentations are excellent, they decorate their plates artfully. Quality has steadily declined over the past year. the food is so-so but the service for our recent delivery order was awful. They sent us the wrong items, some were correct and some were incomplete, some were missing the sauces they were supposed to come with. This was a 65 dollar order that we placed online, with the pictures right next to the item you are ordering almost impossible to screw up you might think but read on... When we called them about it they said "oh that's not how you order this, next time ask for this instead" WHAT? so you do not apologize, do not send out the right items, just tell us to try and order more accurately next time? Guess what, there will be no next time. We will never order from you again and we will tell everyone we know to save their money and order from another place instead. Also, even when the service was better, the food was over priced. I'm disappointed I didn't take a photo but I didn't even want it on my camera roll, yeah it was that bad. We tossed it. I had to subtract stars for that even if the poke bowl was alright. Came into Aki Asian House for the first time today for a Sunday linner (lunch/dinner). We were excited to try a new restaurant and as a self proclaimed sushi connoisseur, I was ready! Aki is located right in the downtown and strategically really close to the Bloomfield train station. The interior is nice and really clean, there are tables with black leather chairs as well as booths. There's also sushi bar seating if you want to sit and watch the sushi chefs work some magic on raw fish. Our waitress was Tia and she was absolutely sweet and provided great service. We ordered miso soup and three regular rolls (salmon avocado, tuna avocado, and a spicy tuna roll). Everything was excellent!! The miso soup was perfect and hot and the sushi was incredibly fresh and well made. Their avocado to fish ratio was on point! Honestly, it was really freaking good. At first I thought that the regular rolls at $6 might be a little over-priced, but regular rolls at Aki are EIGHT pieces, not 6, so it's actually a steal. Their food presentation was also quite impressive. Toward the end of our meal the owner, Sammy, came out to see how everything was going. We ended up talking about Bloomfield for 20 minutes! She was super nice and takes a lot of pride in her restaurant and the surrounding area! After we got our check, we were surprised that Sammy sent over some mochi ice cream on the house! I'm relentless, and kind, and I love sushi...and I'm at work...which is directly across the street. So! I gave it a 3rd or 4th try. But, it will be my last. I simply can not stand a place that doesn't take care of its customers. This time, I placed a phone-in order for pick-up. Edamame, two rolls. Once I was in the store, I added a Thai iced tea to the order. Before check out I picked up a menu with a coupon for 20% off of orders that exceed $25 (in celebration of their anniversary). I attempt to apply the coupon, but was told that I couldn't use it. (See photos of food and receipt) I asked why not- it was a pick up order and it was over $25. Go-to spot for good sushi at a good price with very fast service. Notable items: seaweed salad, shumai, and spicy tuna rolls. To be quite honest, I think this place is very reasonable for price when it comes to the quality of sushi you're getting, especially considering other sushi places in the area that charge more for far inferior/sub par sushi. However, I'd like to see portion size be a tad bit bit bigger as I feel some rolls come much smaller than others, and are not always consistent. I have had some mushy rolls, especially when it comes to speciality rolls. I do think this place is one of the better places in the area and is worth a try if you're around Bloomfield/Montclair. Went for Weekday Lunch Special Food - 5/5. When I ordered the hibachi, I could hear the wok clanking in the super high heat that makes for a good stir-fry and the sounds did not disappoint. The sear on my hibachi steak is beautiful! Visually the whole dish is great with nice browning and little specks of spices everywhere. It tastes as good as it looks: beef is tender with a nice crust, vegetables are cooked al dente and the rice has that richness you get from a stir-fry. It comes with the two hibachi dipping sauces making for a complete experience. Salad had good ginger dressing and the soup was mellow. Great food! Service - 4/5. The online menu had hibachi specials for lunch but their printed menu at the restaurant didn't list it. When mentioned though, they did offer the hibachi lunch and mentioned it wasn't listed on the printed menu by error. Friendly service! Value - 5/5. My partner and I came here for dinner and had a very pleasant experience. I was curious to see if this place was related to the other Aki sushi place in town, but they informed me that they weren't. The place is brand new, as is the rest of the building where they're located (they are located below the Avalon). When we arrived, there were a few tables occupied, but we were easily escorted to an empty booth within a few minutes. Reviewing the menu, the prices were mid-range and the overall selection was decent and manageable; nothing that would overwhelm anyone and after reading it all I had a hard time deciding what I wanted because it all sounded so good. We started with edamame and ordered the Jersey Roll, Dragon Roll and Aki House Roll. All of the food was super tasty! The rolls had a really good rice to filling ratio and everything was super fresh. If there's anything that gives this place more of a plus in mine book, it's the fact that they are BYOB!
