I ordered wonton egg drop soup and a lunch special chicken with broccoli with white rice. The egg drop soup had huge pieces of egg whites and the wontons were mostly wrapper with a sliver of meat inside. The chicken and broccoli had no taste whatsoever. Even the pieces that were completely submerged in the brown sauce, I had to add salt to because there was just no flavor to the dish. read more

Really great food but I wish they had delivery, and a charge card machine. -1 star ONLY FOR THIS! Food generally slays the competition in Bloomfield area. I've called ahead, and picked up, and what strikes me about this place is, they have noticeably better food than most Chinese found in my section of Bloomfield. It seems Essex County in general has really lackluster Chinese food, and as we know, Chinese cuisine is like the chameleon, changed and influenced by its surroundings, so perhaps they think we don't like good food...? Well that's not the case here. The simplest things here really shine, I've had really crispy, fresh egg rolls, the best I've remembered having, the most excellent Lo Mein, and hands down the tastiest boneless barbecue spare ribs ever- tender, delicious in a really delicious sweet and tangy sauce (like you've had before, only better). Every dish I've had here is excellent, the problem is, no delivery. If these guys read reviews here, you should take note, you're better than the takeout available, and with the addition of a charge card swipe on a smartphone, you just may double your business and make a big old fattie very happy. read more

Was looking to satisfy my Chinese food craving. Found this place since my other two local places were closed on Tuesday I thought to give this ago. I did a simple order of a combination platter of boneless barbecue spareribs with pork fried rice. Unfortunately, that's not what I got. I received regular ribs and plain rice or should I say Onions with some rice. And on top of not getting what I ordered, I never felt sicker in my life from eating something. I ordered from here for the first time and I was very pleased with everything! The Singapore noodles were plentiful and very tasty. If you are looking for something that's going to burn your tongue off, this is not it. It had a nice little kick and was enough for two meals. The wonton soup was also very tasty. First time I've ever ordered from here and it's really better than average Chinese food. I asked for the Hunan chicken to be only a little spicy and it was perfect! Only complaint is there wasn't enough sauce on it but I'll ask for extra next time. The vegetable fried rice was surprisingly fresh tasting and had huge broccoli pieces in it -- it was not greasy and tasted lighter than that in other places and it was a nice yellow color instead of brownish. This place has the most bland and tasteless Chinese food I have ever eaten. I got vegetable lo mein and veggie steamed dumplings. No bueno! The food was really dry and gross. And the veggie dumplings had some weird green mush inside of them that I couldn't figure out or stomach. I know that typically noodles are dry-ish so I asked for a side of Szechuan sauce and that ended up tasting like liquid salt. I don't get how this place has good reviews but judging the demographic of the area, they probably think ketchup is spicy... Do yourself a favor and if you go here, just order white rice. THE WORST. First, They don't deliver, what small typical Chinese takeout doesn't deliver? After finally ordering and realizing we decided to pick up. Ordered General Tso, ribs, scallion pancakes, and fried dumplings. I am not sure if they are trying to Americanize their food (which hey, when we order Chinese we don't want this) but their scallion pancakes tasted like garlic knots. This little Chinese takeout it's definitely a small gem in Montclair. They only have one table by the door but they have a little park right across the street that has 2 concrete tables and seats so you can enjoy the weather. Although this take out looks like a hole in wall it makes up for the quality of food they provide. We have been ordering from here since we moved into NJ a little over 10 years ago. I must say can't recall having any bad days with them.. No question one of the better places to buy from... The only place I know that leaves their sauces out for the taking. While other place charge u for extras. Way to go Wa-Chung!!!! They do have a few small negatives like they are strictly a cash place and they don't have plastic knives but it's not the end of the world. Especially when the food you get is good. read more

Just picked up, they are currently not wearing masks in the kitchen. When I mentioned my concern the woman that works the front became defensive and slightly rude. She said masks make you dizzy when worn all day and they need a break to breathe. Here's the good news...the sweet and sour chicken was tasty. Now buckle up for the bad... everything else was surprisingly bland including the lo mein , shrimp and lobster sauce , and even the egg drop soup. Some salt would have really helped I think. But what was really disturbing to me and the reason for the one-star, is when I went up to the counter to pay, the guy abruptly told me they only accept cash. I told him I don't carry a lot of cash on me and also, there's no sign indicating it's a cash-only establishment. He then quickly changed his tune and said okay we'll accept credit cards but we have to charge you an extra dollar. again I said where's the sign that indicates this mystery credit card tax? I am giving this 3.5-4 stars for a take out place. not gourmet by any means, but very solid take out quality. Always consistent and portions are good size. I typically get beef with broccoli and orange chicken, together they can feed 4 people. Entrees are around $9 and come with white rice.The orange chicken is fried so not super healthy but the sauce is spicy and flavored well. It's been around since at least 1988 and that speaks highly of a take out Chinese place, in a town full of overpriced snooty niche restaurants and vegan no fat no taste dolphin safe cafes. I've been going to Watchung's for a few years now. It's never my first option, but it gets the job done and is local. The last few times I went in have been extremely disappointing. The lunch special used to be $5, but is now close to $7. That wouldnt be too bad but it's literally just rice and whatever main meal you're getting, NO can of soda, soup, OR egg roll. I was looking for a decent place to get food when I was really hungry... This was not it. I ordered the "Kung Pao Chicken with Peanuts" for about $10, and an egg-roll. The chicken in the dish seemed to be bonded with fillers, with a semi-gelatinous, jiggly texture. If it were seitan or tofu I would have been less disturbed by it - I don't dig "mysterious" meats. The sauce was too thick and syrupy-sweet, lacking any real punch or unique flavor. Not a single hot pepper in the dish, yet plenty, AND PLENTY MORE of the ubiquitous green bell-pepper. The egg-roll was slightly crisp on the outside with a faint cardboard flavor. Filled with 95% cabbage and a 5% smattering of "pork" (which looks like soggy Bac~Os®) mixed in. The brown rice was good. Add one star! *__* Service is fast and friendly. Only one small table and 2 or 3 chairs - not really a space to dine in. My personal favorite is the Salt and Pepper shrimp - perfectly flavored over tons of steamed broccoli! My friend always orders the Orange Chicken lunch special over brown rice and broccoli!
