So I found myself with a few hours to kill and thought I'd give this authentic place a shot. When I walked in two things became apparent. First, everyone in the place dining was Chinese (definitely a great sign), and second, the people working here care about what they do. They were super attentive and helpful, so I over ordered to get the full experience. The Cumin Lamb was good but the Shrimp with cabbage, not only another reviewer's recommendation but also the waiter's was off the charts and my new favorite dish!! I have ordered takeout from M&T several times now and have been impressed with the quality and flavor of the food. While they offer a few Americanized dishes, M&T leans heavily towards authentic Chinese which is my personal preference. Pig and chicken feet, intestines, tripe, organs, etc. All the good stuff. They also have a great selection of dumplings and baos. Even though the take out has been excellent I think M&T would provide an even better experience when dining in. Wow is all my whole family and I can say after eating here. The food here is incredibly authentic and delicious, but you need to order the right things. I don't know how good the "americanized" dishes are, but the authentic chinese dishes were amazing and flavorful. I admit I do not know the specific names since my family did the ordering, but some of my favorite dishes included shrimp with cabbage, some long clam-like shellfish dish, and a beef tripe with celery cold dish. The mapo tofu and cold pork with garlic dipping sauce were also great. It is *very* difficult to impress my family but my family unanimously raved about the dishes. There is a huge selection of dishes from different chinese cuisines and they nailed all of them. Even my grandmother who grew up in the region that this food originated from loved it. This is truly a gem and honor to get a real taste of china, and I'm grateful I got to get a taste of my grandmother's childhood. Also they had some killer homemade pastries with red bean filling and purple yam filling. They weren't too sweet so my grandparents loved them too. The venue and tables were also very clean and spacious. While some say the service may be on the slower end, it really wasn't that slow and it was 110% worth it. Terrific dining experience! It's not the fanciest place around, but still quite comfortable and nice. And the food is excellent! My son lived in Beijing for a year and says this is the best Chinese food he's had outside China, and he's a foodie. If you're looking for Northern China cuisine, this is the place to go for the Morris/Essex counties area. You won't find many of the authentic dishes on their menu unless you go to NYC or Edison. Their dumplings/jiaozi/gyoza is second-to-none. The staff is really friendly and I believe they truly want to serve the customers well. But therein lies the rub, the experience of the wait staff is not there, and the service level can only be described as inept, despite best intentions. Hopefully the service will improve over time, as they gain more experience. Or as more people discover this gem, their business will pick up and they can afford to hire more help. I've been coming to different incarnations at this location (we call it the panda house) for close to 20 years. The building is old, and its decor hasn't changed much since our first visit from way back. It's just gotten... older. I like hole-in-the-wall eateries and this place definitely fits that bill. So to summarize, I would give the food 4 stars, but the service and ambiance drags down the score. But as you seasoned eaters know, if you walk into a Chinese restaurant and only see Chinese customers in there, you know it's probably got something good going on. read more

The Hot and Sour soup, my all time favorite, yummy yummy. Now for the main courses. Appetizer of Rice Jelly Salad, don't be afraid by its name, it was really really good, kind of spicy.Minced pork with sea Cucumber, I didn't think I would like it, man that was delicious, next came the Fish Filet with hot and spicy peanut, true to its name it was HOT and Spicy, with lots of peanuts, and truly delicious. The owners/chef could not have been any nicer, as we were waiting, they served some delicious hot tea. She also gifted us with some sweet buns , can't recall the name. Went here for lunch today. We were amazed at how good it was. This is truly an authentic Chinese Restaurant. So if you are a fan of places like PF Chang then this is not what you will find here. We ordered quite a few things off the menu because it was so hard to choose. We started with a cold dish, Prok and Cucumber salad. It was one of the best things we have had in a long time. The dressing was delicious, very garlicky. Then we had a huge bowl of Hot & Sour soup. It was one of the best I have ever had. Very spicy, just the way we like it. Then my wife had a Lamb dish that was excellent and we ordered the Pork in Garlic sauce. Both were wonderful. Needless to say we came home with a lot of leftovers, but we will be enjoying them for a day or two. We will be going back here for sure. There is a crab and lobster dish on the menu we really want to try and they have a whole grouper dish that looked really good. After reading the reviews, I was excited to try this place. Needless to say, I left disappointed and hungry. HUGE menu of items to choose from, many of them I had never heard of before. I went with the safe options for my first time: pork dumplings, sweet and sour chicken and white rice. The dumplings tasted very vinegary, so much so, I only ate 3 out of the 10 provided. The sweet and sour chicken was crunchy - this wasn't white meat at all. I took about 3-4 bites of this and ended up leaving. The price for all of this, and a can of sprite, was $21 which, if the food was good, would have been a massive deal. While my experience wasn't the best, there were several local individuals there that were raving about the food. I wish I would have ordered what they were having. read more

Although presentation was nice, I find that the food is often bland or just too much oil. For example, the water cooked fish: fish is perfectly cooked, but with all the dried chilis it was not spicy nor numbing, not enough salt and full of oil, no aromatics, like cilantro or scallions. Went to this newly opened chinese restaurant on Rt.46 for dinner. The place has been exchanged ownership 2-3 times in the past. Our family decided to give a try as we heard some good comments from friends Stepped in the place, the restaurant has been renovated to TsingTao sea coast style and the seafood is famous from China region on the north side.  We ordered Garlic Chive packets, looks largely to dumplings which is our favorite. I felt the need to update this review. Since trying it out the first time a couple of years ago, we have dined in and taken out many times. M&T is by far the best Chinese food in the area. Nothing else comes close unless you want to travel to Queens. We keep trying different dishes and they are all great. Even when we don't love a dish enough to order it again, we are never disappointed that we tried it. You have to be open to trying authentic flavors and put aside what you think you know about Chinese food (if you've only ever had Americanized Chinese food). The fish dishes are particularly good but everything we eat there is delicious. And the prices are incredibly reasonable as well. Please go to M&T. The food here gets 5 stars. It is beyond fantastic and no other Chinese restaurant in NJ compares. Their food is authentic Shandong Region cuisine. There are many unusual spices that I am not familiar with because they order straight from China. Do not come here if you want American Chinese. I was in the area for work and had to stay overnight. With COVID-19 still in our mist, indoor dining in NJ is still off limits. I was looking forward to some Chinese food since it has been awhile and I saw M&T open and available for pick up. Called them up a head of time, they gave me a quick 20 minute pick up time. I placed an order for General Tso with white rice and hot sour soup. Nothing out of the ordinary. When I arrived the place was locked, found that a little bit odd because people would still want to walk in to order food for take out. Maybe they were taking extra precautions, who knows? So I called up saying I arrived and once I was let in the place was fuming. I would have to say that it was at least 90 degrees in there and musty. If the lady that was there wasn't the owner, she has to speak to him or her in regards to the conditions. It seemed like something unbearable to work in. After paying, I went back to my hotel and starting eating the food I ordered and was extremely disappointed. The meat seemed like it was cooked through, the soup didn't have flavor. I was extremely disappointed with my experience. Not sure if it was just a bad day because of the other reviews written but I will not be coming back. read more

M&T is a hidden gem for me. China is a large country with various cuisines. Sichuan spicy food is only one of them. This M&T is nothing about Sichuan. It represents a province in east coast of China, Shandong. Shandong people are good at cooking seafood and everything made out of flour such as dumplings, pancakes, buns and noodles.
