Absolutely tasteless food. There is not only no salt at all of any kind, but no ginger, no garlic, no discernable favorable onion. And the RICE is bad, it's starchy bad. The fried rice is not fried. This used to be the best in town. I am not a fan of Chinese food overall but after moving out here and hearing all the hype, I eventually caved and tried it. It was spectacular, with an emphasis on the word "was." I didn't order from here often but whenever I did, it was really good. The food had great flavor, and it had a unique taste that separated it from the rest of the dime a dozen chinese take out places. I have the belief that most Chinese take out places all taste exactly the same. Well, I am sad to report that after ordering tonight, this place has officially died to me. I ordered what I usually do which is the spicy garlic beef, lo Mein, and a wonton soup. The food had ZERO flavor. It doesn't taste the same at all. It tasted exactly like every other Chinese take out place. I despise sweet tasting savory platters and they managed to achieve this flavor profile and I loathe it. The beef was soaked in a subtly sweet glaze (not sauce) that even changed the color of the meet. The beef also used to have a nice kick, now it's non-existent. It didn't taste like garlic AT ALL, it was sweet, and the beef itself had little to no seasoning. The wonton soup was the same thing. I love the saltiness of wonton soups but this soup's broth had no flavor to it. The wontons were tasteless, and the lo mein also had no flavor, whereas before it was so tasty. Why I gave a second chance I have no idea! Had a craving for chinese and steered away from my usual spot and gave New China another go ( last time I ordered I got sick) l shrimp toast tasted like it was soaked in oil for 3 days, everything else tasted ok. I feel like you can judge a neighborhood by the quality of their Chinese Food, and New Kitchen has us feeling like we're living large! Every Chinese takeout place seems to have a specialty -- you know, the one thing they're *really* good at -- and when you come here, make sure to order anything with PORK. The boneless/bone-in ribs and the pork fried rice are fantastic. The only thing I tried that I didn't like that much was the Beef with Broccoli. No real reason -- but I think I prefer the pork & chicken options to the beef. Some of the great items my husband & I can vouch for: Scallion Pancakes Shumai Boneless Ribs Bone-in Ribs Pork Lo Mein Pork Fried Rice (standard with most of their combos, but you can request White) Sesame Chicken General Tso's Chicken Orange Chicken Lemon Chicken almost anything off the Heart Menu Egg Drop & Wonton Soup (for when I'm sick) I personally love the online ordering (from their website). It's a great option to have: you can pay cash or card (with the option to add tip), and there are *always* free/bonus items that you can add-on to your meal. Delivery is fast and very friendly, and I don't think they've ever made a mistake with our orders. If I want to pick up from the restaurant instead, instead of looking for street parking, there's a decently-sized parking lot behind the shopping center. When we don't feel like cooking, we usually look here first. And luckily for us, New Kitchen feels like a treat, not a consolation prize! read more

Not bad for Chinese in Cedar Grove! I love the convenience of online ordering as well as the "name your own" bonus fried rice or egg roll with purchase. My order was hot and ready when I arrived. My dad couldn't get enough of the boneless chicken. Mom even had a crab Rangoon or 2 after saying she wasn't in the mood for Chinese! Nice friendly staff too! The only downside is the parking situation. No parking out front, not even at the yellow curb given that it's right across the street from the police station, parking on Pompton isn't an option since there's no walkway and only a few 15 minute spots around back. They do offer delivery but I opted to pu since I had to make a few other stops in town while I was out. read more

Must say this has been hit or miss lately. It's close to home and makes it easy to order from but it has been very inconsistant. Tried several other local Chinese restaurants but they're not better. Dumplings and egg rolls are good. Chicken and broccoli and the lo mein have been average of late. Had the pepper steak last week and it was better. I grubbed hubbed it to North Caldwell and delivery was super quick around noon on a Sunday. The egg roll and general tsao's were still hot and crispy, nice spice and flavor. The scallion pancakes were some of the best I've had in a while, but the sauce was too salty. My only real complaint is that I substituted the fried rice for "lo mein" and I literally only got the noodles. Not a single veggie in there. I know it didn't say "veg lo mein," but that much plain pasta was just weird. Also, the delivery girl was super cute. If I was 10 years younger I'd be ordering from here every day. I started ordering delivery from New Kitchen Chinese Restaurant a few weeks ago. I thought it would only be occasional but the delivery was fast and food delicious so I've done a delivery almost once a week (it might also be that I'm lazy, but let's go with the good stuff). I've been sick so Chinese food is the way to go, especially with a hot egg drop soup and good prices. The one thing I will note is that I've been ordering through GrubHub (also something I love) and there were two occasions when my special instructions were skipped (i.e., sauce on the side or substitute egg roll with soup). Chinese restaurants are basically the same. I really liked Aloha on Steven Ave in Cedar Grove which was sold to Yummy whatever, a few years ago. We ordered one time from the new owner and that was the last. The new owner has since closed the doors. New Kitchen will please you. read more

We have ordered from this place multiple times. Always use grub hub and the service was great. Good food and quick turn around. I don't know what's happened but it started taking longer and longer for our food to get here. Tonight we ordered our usual and 2 hours later we got a call from grub hub (after an inquiry) that our home is too far away for delivery. They never called or contacted us. So now 2 hours after we ordered we are stuck with ordering from somewhere else. The service and communication of this place is absolutely dreadful. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone- while that may be spiteful- any business that turns away loyal customers who consistently order don't deserve the business. Placed a big order of 11 items for a big family dinner. I arrived earlier than they told me and the entire order was getting packed up already. Once home, I noticed that everything was as ordered and they gave us more than enough rice, fried noodles and sauces, which is sometimes an issue with some places. Each item was delicious. The General Tso's chicken was the best we ever had. The Hunan beef was just spicy enough without being overpowered with heat. We were totally satisfied with our meal and will be returning to New Kitchen for all future Chinese take out meals. I highly recommend this restaurant. Very extensive menu. In all our years of ordering we have only had a handful of problems ( missing egg rolls, garlic chicken instead of beef) but both were rectified quickly. I have never written a review before, but I felt compelled to write one about New Kitchen. I have never been so frustrated or upset with a restaurant in my entire life. Their rudeness on the phone when placing an order is one thing, but then to deliver the wrong beverage not once, but twice, even after SPECIFICALLY SAYING "Hey, last time you messed up. Don't do that again," and then the next order is literally the same mess up as the first. The food is mediocre at best if you're in the area and just need something to fill you're stomach, but at this point, I'm done. It's not worth it to me.
