We were exhausted, hungry, and honestly just defeated by the day. And then the door unlocked. A girl inside saw us standing there and just -- let us in. Opened the restaurant early, just for us, out of the rain, on a holiday. I haven't experienced kindness like that from a stranger in a very long time. I love that this place is right around the corner from me. A traditional Japanese ramen house that also offers some delicious Japanese street foods. This evening I had their seafood ramen and grilled delicious tofu on skewers. The hostess was so gracious to describe a caffeine free loose tea they could make me with rose buds and herbs and it was served in such a gracious, zen-like manner. read more

We went on a Thursday night at around 8:30 (they close at 9:30pm) and the kitchen was still open thankfully. We were greeted right away and were given a table, our waiter was really sweet and helpful! We ordered the bao buns to start and they were fantastic! The chicken was nice and tender while the buns were fluffy yet still easy to eat. These are definitely filling so beware! We also each got a ramen bowl, one chicken and one tonkotsu. Both were good, but nothing amazing, the broth was great as it was light yet flavorful, but the meats (both the chicken and the pork) were only okay for us. It's nice that you get a punch card and after 10 ramens you get one free! We will definitely return as it is good for the price (compared to other spots in Bloomfield ave) and super close to us! read more

Wow! I'm not usually impressed with ramen but I definitely am with the tonkotsu ramen here. The noodles were chewy and with bite. The soup was flavorful but not overly salty. The bamboo shoots and extra-cost egg were full of umami. I even liked the cooked seaweed over the usual dry sheet at other ramen shops. The seaweed appetizer was also delicious! This place is a bit surprising in that the spicy miso taste is very strong and something I'm not used to in ramen. I like it but not something to such a strong miso flavor...would be much better served hot in the restaurant. Additionally, they had a BOGO for the fried chicken wings so you know I had to get them. Well this place is definitely up there with Ani! Ordered thru DD for delivery and everything came packaged well. 2 Shoyu ramen, takoyaki and karaage. Hubs got chicken broth and I went for the pork. Incredible depth of authentic meat/bone flavor! Might even be better than their nearby competitor. Noodles were nice and chewy and soft boiled egg spot on. The fried foods were yummy, but they got a little soft during the travel. I'm sure if they were crispy right out the fryer there would not be one complaint. Fujiya Ramen provides a truly wonderful meal that belies its humble appearances. Taking a cue from a Yelp user, I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, which comprises pork broth with pork belly chashu, bamboo shoots, scallions and seaweed, and an additional soft-boiled egg. The takeout (or take-away, in the Queen's English) order arrived via a door ajar just wide enough for the package to fit through, handed over by a masked and gloved employee. Inside the bag, there were two containers: One with the broth and ingredients, and the other with the ramen. There were no instructions provided, but all you have to do is move the noodles into the broth, which comes in the container that most resembles a soup bowl. (It's been a long time since I've had real, Japanese-style ramen, i.e., from a restaurant, but I remember how it's supposed to look!) Despite my overbearing hunger, I managed to wait for it to soak for a minute or two. The blend of flavors (gotta love that umami!) was exquisite. The broth was rich, perfectly salted and rounded-out with the pork, bamboo shoots and seaweed against the noodles. The slices of pork were delicate and seemed to melt in my mouth with each bite. I struggled to eat it all slowly, as I was hungry, and even managed to garner a nod of approval from my kid who sampled and enjoyed the broth and the seaweed. The soft-boiled egg had a tint to its exterior that might have come from soy sauce, and it was so gently full of flavor that I'll have trouble going back to "normal" eggs again, but what a problem to face! My initial reaction was that the portion looked small, but about two-thirds of the way through my meal, I could feel myself increasingly satiated with each savory bite. What a place for some tasty ramen. I would definitely recommend this place to friends that are around the area. Parking: look for street parking near by a few blocks away. Or pay. Interior: dark but is nice for dates. Roomy as well. Food: Tonkatsu with Egg - delicious very rich and made me wanting more. I felt that the meat was really tender and the noodles were just right. It looks small but once I was done eating it, I felt content. I could have eaten more but it was just enough for me. The egg was a little cold when I bit into it. This was probably to preserve the egg throughout the day. However it was very tasty. I would suggest to leave the egg to sit in the broth for a few minutes before taking a bite. Stopped here while in town and had an enjoyable experience. The ramen bowls were large, and warm. I got the Fujiya Kaisen Ramen which wasn't your typical ramen, including had shrimp and squid. It was alright. You had to pay extra to add an egg to your ramen. My husband ordered the more traditional Tonkotsu Ramen and added the egg. He said it was good, but we found both a bit on the bland side. Perhaps we had been spoiled by having had some really delicious ramen in NYC the day prior, but it just didn't seem up to par. Overall we had a nice lunch. The service was good. If we were in the area again we would consider stopping by as we enjoy ramen, but there was quite a variety of other places to try, so we would likely consider trying one of those. read more

This is my favorite ramen spot in the Montclair area. The broth is flavorful and warming and the marinated egg is perfectly done with a bright orange tender yolk. Love the spicy miso ramen - it's got a nice kick to it. I asked to substitute the default corn topping with the kikurage mushrooms once, and they were kind enough to do it. The tonkotsu and shoyu are also fulfilling. I only wish the pork slices were slightly more substantial. They have been doing a great job during covid, packing up the bowls separate from the broth so that the noodles retain the right texture. So I'm a little torn. Two great ramen shops right next to each other on Bloomfield Ave. How is a girl to choose? Straight off the bat - buns are better at Ani. They get more creative with them. The chicken in our buns at Fujiya had lots of fat, not just breast like I'm used to. Still a good flavor though. As far as ramen, I have to give it to Fujiya. The noodles were perfectly cooked, nice and chewy. The broth was delicious, a nice serving of veggies. The portion is a little small but extra noodles are 2 bucks so it's not so bad. My date got a soft boiled egg and it looked so good I stole half. That was perfectly cooked too. Overall a very solid ramen spot. I really don't understand why it's not even half as busy as Ani. Must be the trend. Definitely recommend giving this place a shot, especially if you've already tried Ani. The service was great too. It's a bigger space and lots of seating. This place isn't my favorite ramen spot, but it does the trick. I love that they have tempura as an app, but they don't have a lot of vegetarian options. Maybe in the future they will. Hubby ordered the customized noodle bowl and added chicken and pork to their plain chicken base with noodles. I selected their special menu chicken broth base menu item which I think is #2 which also had a few veggies . OMG was that broth flavorful and addictive. The sliced chicken was tender and had a nice texture and flavor. My husband is a bit picky and he enjoyed his but he really loved mine. So next time we go he will order the one I had. The menu is not huge but you can tell that what they do they do it very well. When I see a pared down menu I always so with one of the popular choices because there is reason why it is there. The service was lovely. I really like that the tables are nicely spaced and you do not feel rushed. We did not need to wait but there was a steady stream of people waiting but it was all very zen like. Thankfully, we were seated right away at Fujiya. In my opinion, Fujiya has a much more appetizing menu with a better variety than their competition a few doors down. We got the pork buns, takoyaki, Tonkotsu Ramen, and Spicy Miso Ramen. Our meal was nothing to write home about, but it was still very tasty. It satisfied our ramen cravings and we drove home with full and happy bellies. This was the surprise unintentional alternative to a busy, crowded, waitlisted Ani Ramen dinner plan. My friend said let's not wait & try the ramen place a few stores down... very near to Ani's. A bit speechless when they asked if I wanted to add a soft egg for $1... I perused my memories if I had ever paid extra for egg, knowing I never did. Oh, well... just get the egg! Makes ramen complete! Takoyaki were a bit cute & small... toasty on the outside, and soft inside with delish pieces of octopus in each of them. The shrimp in the tempura was soft like overcooked soft. And the veggie ramen was good as per my friend and I finished to the last drop of my tonkatsu. Solid ramen with very good broths. Came on a packed Saturday and waited about 25 minutes for a table. We were seated and promptly brought drinks. As we had already perused the menu we opted for the pork buns and some ramen. The pork buns were fluffy and flavorful but could have used a little less sauce as they were a bit soggy after the first bite. I selected the spicy pork special ramen which I enjoyed as it was not overly spicy and the spiced pork belly was very good. It was a little light on ingredients for me and I would have asked to add a few items if I knew it was going to be light. I did like the wife's pork broth ramen with veggies and sliced beef, I found the depth of flavor in her ramen to be much better than mine and would have ordered that instead. Thus this is a very positive take-out review. I called in order, a pleasant experience. Hubby reported a positive pick up experience. We ordered buns, one order of pork the other chicken. We found pork to be superior. He ordered R6, spicy ramen with pork belly. Really good. I ordered R5, with seafood. OK, but I would not order again when compared to R6. Not enough seafood, but broth, veggies, ramen good. Overall, happy diners. Just want to add that our trips to Mitsuwa, the fantastic Japanese supermarket in Edgewater, have helped educate us about ramen and Japanese cuisine.
