This is the only rooftop bar / restaurant in Montclair, NJ and thought that in itself would make it an easy 4/5 star rating, but that wasn't the case. Located on the roof of the MC Hotel, you can park with Valet, on the street or in a near garage and take the EXPRESS elevator to the rooftop. Getting off the elevator there is a cute vestibule that has potential for them to do so much more with (cute photo opportunity, cute waiting area etc ) but it appears they feature whichever brand gives them the best seasonal props. We made a resy so when we arrived our table was available and had a nice city view. Our goal was to catch the sunset based on the time and while we kinda did, there are absolutely no direct views of the west so you catch bits and pieces of the sunset. Sunrise would probably be awesome up there bc you'd get clear views but clearly a bar won't be open at sunrise. They have a nice specialty cocktail menu and their speciality sangria sounded like we couldn't pass it up so that's what we ordered but there was nothing special about it in any way so we were a little disappointed. We ordered shrimp cocktail and sausage and pepper sliders for a small bite and neither of those were anything to write home about either. The shrimp were a bit limp and the sliders had no peppers on them and not a drop of tomato sauce. Service while friendly was slow and it honestly wasn't busy, especially for a Holiday weekend .... So, overall we land right in the middle with this rating with 3 stars (when we really hoped and thought we'd be talking at least 4).

We came here with friends after lunch, and the view of the city was unbelievable! It wasn't packed on a Saturday afternoon which was great, service was quick and drinks are good for the price. Outdoor area really is a vide.

Alto has long been one of my favorite rooftop spots in New Jersey, and it's high time I finally leave a review! It's the quintessential destination for a warm summer evening, boasting a classy ambiance, fantastic specialty cocktails, and great music. Whether you're planning a get-together with friends, a lively girls' night out, or a romantic date, Alto fits the bill perfectly. On a recent Friday evening, my party of four had an 8:15 PM reservation. We were finishing dinner nearby and knew we'd be running a bit late, so I called ahead. The hostess I spoke with was incredibly courteous and understanding, which I greatly appreciated. Upon arrival, our table was ready with a lovely view, and our server was nothing short of knowledgeable, attentive, and very pleasant. The drinks were a highlight of the evening. Nearly all of us opted for a specialty cocktail, and we all raved about how delicious they were. I particularly enjoyed the Golden Echo, a delightful blend of passionfruit liqueur, mango puree, lime, spicy bitters, ginger beer, and dark rum. It truly transported me to a Caribbean getaway! We also thoroughly enjoyed the fries with their addictive herb aioli and the popcorn, both of which disappeared quickly. Given my consistently positive experiences, I'll absolutely be returning to Alto to enjoy more of what it offers. For those driving, both street parking and valet service are available.

Best to eat before you arrive. Overall, Silk City Distillery has remained consistent since my last visit. Extras: - All alcohol is made at the distillery. - Distillery tours are available by appointment. - SCD has some hilarious Tee Shirts for sale. - 2 Restrooms on the premises. - Adjoining Ghost Hawk Brewery shares a small parking lot with SCD. Like the brewpub, Silk City Distillery had been on my wish list, and it was not until I arrived at Ghost Hawk that I noticed that they were adjacent to each other, allowing me to check both off at once. The tasting room was adorned with barrels that were holding their vast selection of spirits, such as bourbon, whisky, rum, gin, vodka, and more. They also offered a handful of regular and high-top tables, which we were easy to obtain on that afternoon (given the outdoor options as well), but typically reservations were recommended. Though the seating was comfortable, the temperature was not. In fact, it was freezing in there, and we, along with a lot of other parties, switched tables multiple times to find the best fit. We approached the counter to order from their lengthy cocktail list, which included standard and more custom cocktails. I decided on their rendition of a Lime Rickey, asking for it to be made with their gin. The tart, sour, and sweet drink was light and refreshing. I enjoyed each sip so much that I wound up getting a second round. While many distilleries offer a few types of alcohol and a handful of cocktails, the Silk City Distillery went above and beyond with their vast array of options. Any connoisseur should enjoy the place!

The space itself absolutely lives up to the hype. It looks just like the pictures and videos online. Beautifully decorated, trendy, and very inviting. The staff was also friendly, which made for a pleasant experience overall. Unfortunately, the food didn't taste as good as it looked. I ordered the buttermilk cast iron pancake with berries, turkey sausage, and scrambled eggs on the side. The pancake itself was disappointing. It tasted more like cornbread, and not the slightly sweet kind like Jiffy, but more savory and noticeably salty. It was also pretty dry. The mascarpone cream and berries helped balance things out a bit, but I'm not sure if too much lemon or salt was added because my pancake leaned heavily on the salty side. I also tried the "All Night Long" drink, which I actually really enjoyed. It was strong and well-made, and I'd definitely recommend it. Overall, while the ambiance and drinks were highlights, the food didn't quite meet expectations. I can't say I'd rush back, but if I did, I'd be curious to try one of their dirty sodas instead.

This one pound mozzarella stick definitely fulfilled that criteria. It was so gigantic it was almost like getting a workout in just to lift it. The outside was heavily breaded with bread crumbs and the top was sprinkled with parmesan cheese and chopped scallions. Even the dipping cup was supersized to accommodate the diameter of the stick! Typically, I would have posted until after my I finished my oversized food compilation project. However, it's being posted early because The Brookdale is permanently closing its doors. I am truly sad to hear they will no longer be in business, but their three sister restaurants at 1109 Broad Street will still remain open. #thebrookdale #thebigcheese #bloomfieldnj

I'm glad I did because, honestly, I would've been disappointed paying full price for this. The packaging was well done for takeout, but the food itself was pretty underwhelming for the price. The hand rolls lacked the fresh, melt in your mouth quality I'd expect from a slightly elevated restaurant. The only items I genuinely enjoyed were the coconut shrimp and the crab hand roll. The potato salad was $10 for a very small portion, which felt hard to justify, and the chicken karaage was a little soggy instead of crispy (may be from the takeout box). Overall, I'm thankful for the Grubhub deal because I don't think the food was worth the regular price. Between the quality and portion sizes, I don't see myself ordering from here again.
