6/27/26: The Splendid Rooftop used to be known as "Alto". There's indoor and "of course" outside seating on the rooftop. When we arrived, there was a lot of available seating. I could always see a very few " Reserved Areas". (As the night went on, the place was packed). We were escorted to a seating area. It would've been nice to have been asked, if we had a preference in seating because of comfort and of course "the views" of NYC. In the past, we've been asked. Some of the seating consisted of slouchy sofas along with high top tables and chairs.. Our seating was the slouchy sofa area. I had to locate extra pillows to prop us up to just to reach the table. Plus the location of our seats didn't offer us the wonderful rooftop views. We've been there before, so it wasn't a big deal. Plus, it was a great night for being outside. Service was pretty good. Think they could've used more help on a Friday night. We had cocktails and two lobster rolls $26 each. The lobster rolls were very tasty. Food prices are a little high, but you're paying for being out on the rooftop. Since my last visit, there appears to be more wide screen TVs. Advanced reservations are highly recommended for outdoor seating (which we did!). Otherwise, you can forget about sitting outside. Despite the seating area and comfort issue, we enjoyed the evening. There's valet parking for at least $20.00+, municipal garage parking and of course (if you're lucky) street parking. read more

I came here last month for my friend's birthday. i was actually excited to try this place out because it was on my list. but i was kinda disappointed by the service. we ordered drinks and food. but my two friends wanted to order another drink and our waitress was no where to be found. we waited about 30-40 mins looking for someone. then we finally got someone and the drink that my friend ordered was wrong. he didn't say anything and drank it anyways because he was waiting forever for a drink. then the manager saw us sitting and looking around for someone so she came up to us and helped us close our tabs and then we finally headed outside. we were able to get a table outside. then the birthday girl wanted one last drink so she said instead of looking for a waitress she was just going to go by the bar to order instead. she headed inside to the bar it took another 30 mins for her to even get a drink at the bar. she was waiting forever. i understand saturdays can get busy. just felt like we spent most of our night waiting for drinks. other than that the place is great. my friends ordered food and said it was good. i only got a drink, lychee martini. read more

This is the only rooftop bar / restaurant in Montclair, NJ and thought that in itself would make it an easy 4/5 star rating, but that wasn't the case. Located on the roof of the MC Hotel, you can park with Valet, on the street or in a near garage and take the EXPRESS elevator to the rooftop. Getting off the elevator there is a cute vestibule that has potential for them to do so much more with (cute photo opportunity, cute waiting area etc ) but it appears they feature whichever brand gives them the best seasonal props. We made a resy so when we arrived our table was available and had a nice city view. Our goal was to catch the sunset based on the time and while we kinda did, there are absolutely no direct views of the west so you catch bits and pieces of the sunset. Sunrise would probably be awesome up there bc you'd get clear views but clearly a bar won't be open at sunrise. They have a nice specialty cocktail menu and their speciality sangria sounded like we couldn't pass it up so that's what we ordered but there was nothing special about it in any way so we were a little disappointed. We ordered shrimp cocktail and sausage and pepper sliders for a small bite and neither of those were anything to write home about either. The shrimp were a bit limp and the sliders had no peppers on them and not a drop of tomato sauce. Service while friendly was slow and it honestly wasn't busy, especially for a Holiday weekend .... So, overall we land right in the middle with this rating with 3 stars (when we really hoped and thought we'd be talking at least 4). read more

Alto has long been one of my favorite rooftop spots in New Jersey, and it's high time I finally leave a review! It's the quintessential destination for a warm summer evening, boasting a classy ambiance, fantastic specialty cocktails, and great music. Whether you're planning a get-together with friends, a lively girls' night out, or a romantic date, Alto fits the bill perfectly. On a recent Friday evening, my party of four had an 8:15 PM reservation. We were finishing dinner nearby and knew we'd be running a bit late, so I called ahead. The hostess I spoke with was incredibly courteous and understanding, which I greatly appreciated. Upon arrival, our table was ready with a lovely view, and our server was nothing short of knowledgeable, attentive, and very pleasant. The drinks were a highlight of the evening. Nearly all of us opted for a specialty cocktail, and we all raved about how delicious they were. I particularly enjoyed the Golden Echo, a delightful blend of passionfruit liqueur, mango puree, lime, spicy bitters, ginger beer, and dark rum. It truly transported me to a Caribbean getaway! We also thoroughly enjoyed the fries with their addictive herb aioli and the popcorn, both of which disappeared quickly. Given my consistently positive experiences, I'll absolutely be returning to Alto to enjoy more of what it offers. For those driving, both street parking and valet service are available. read more

We came here with friends after lunch, and the view of the city was unbelievable! It wasn't packed on a Saturday afternoon which was great, service was quick and drinks are good for the price. Outdoor area really is a vide. read more

For being a rooftop in north Jersey, it's a nice place. However the food options are so slim so It would be nice to have a better menu. We had gotten a beer and it came out warm, when we complained they said they had no cold beer.... How do you have no cold beer when half the menu is alcohol? The service was horrible though. They never checked on us and took forever to bring another round of drinks, the tab, etc. for being a nice spot I don't think I would Return. read more

My good friend and I went there on Saturday night and Kyle was our server. He was delightful. He was very attentive and he was managing all the tables in the outside area by himself. At one point, my girlfriend wanted an espresso martini, but she didn't want Baileys. She wanted half-and-half, and he took it upon himself to go downstairs and find it for her and bring it over and went above and beyond. I asked to speak to the manager who's equally delightful to let him know what a fantastic experience we had and how great Kyle was and I highly recommend and the views were amazing. The rooftop ambiance is always breathtaking and makes you feel like you are not in NJ. However, the service doesn't match the aesthetics and it's disappointing. We went to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere on an evening with great weather for dinner only to find out that the kitchen is under renovation and they are only serving cold food; more like light snacks although the full menu is posted online there is a very limited selection available. I ordered the lobster roll which had more bread than lobster and for the price I expected a more satisfying roll. The DJ was great and as usual the wait staff had very low, unenthusiastic energy. read more

My friends and I were here on Friday, September 11. A few of us had been here previously. We had a 630 reservation outside for dinner. After ordering a round of drinks, we found out that the kitchen is closed for renovation. There was only a few appetizers offered. There was no mention of that on open table. In addition, there were several add-ons for drinks that were not added on the first time we were there. I called about the experience and spoke with two different managers who basically said we should've double checked the menu before coming there. There wasn't even an apology. Went Tuesday evening for drinks and light bites (heads up, no full dinner menu). The space itself is lovely, comfortable couches for two, plus tables if you'd rather sit up. The view is fantastic, you can see the town and even NYC on the horizon. Unfortunately the service dragged down the experience. It took about 10 minutes for our waiter to greet us, and we had to remind him multiple times to bring water. We ordered sliders and wings. Sliders came out fine, but the wings took over an hour. We asked for the manager, Mike, who was genuinely apologetic and comped the wings off our bill. I do want to be fair to Splendid Rooftop because I don't think the entire experience can be judged by our particular server. Our waiter was consistently slow throughout the evening, and unfortunately, that put a bit of a damper on our first visit. However, we noticed another party being served by a different waiter, and their service appeared to be excellent. In fact, they seemed to be having a completely different experience than we were. I've also read some other reviews mentioning slow service, so hopefully management can address that issue. That said, the atmosphere and rooftop setting really are a draw, and I would definitely consider coming back. I think Splendid has a lot going for it, and our experience may have been very different with another server. Great vibes, beautiful setting, and a manager who handled the situation well. Hopefully, next time we get to experience the level of service we saw being provided to the other tables. read more

We came here on a Saturday night, the place is beautiful, unfortunately we weren't able to utilize the rooftop since it was a little chilly. There were two female DJ's, they did their thing!! They played great music all night long. I forgot the waitress' name but she was good, she brought out drinks pretty fast. I tried the trio bruschetta, my least favorite was the eggplant one. Other than that the ambiance was great and I would definitely go back. The only thing is no one was dancing, which was a bummer, but I surely danced the night away. read more

The staff is rude, service is slow, food portions are small. Views of the city are pretty on one side but not worth the rudeness and dismissiveness of the staff. I asked a waitress (with pink hair) who was not my own waitress for napkins and silverware and she gave me the rudest look and said "ok", then proceeded to walk back past us and never gave us napkins or silverware. Esthetically a beautiful place with friendly wait staff and guest. But RECOMMEND to eat somewhere before you come if you are a Vegan or have any other dietary needs. read more

Cute place. Decent drinks + food. AWFUL service. It took 30 minutes for someone to even acknowledge our existence. This was at 4:15 p.m. with maybe six patrons total. I even flagged down a very nice waitress, who told me they were "switching shifts." Meanwhile, we watched at least four other tables sit there without so much as a glass of water... on a 90-degree day... on a rooftop... while at least six waitresses appeared to be hanging out by the bar. I eventually gave up and got our first round of drinks directly from the bar, courtesy of a bartender who seemed deeply offended by the concept of customer interaction. This was actually my second visit with a similar experience. The first time, I gave them the benefit of the doubt: it was a busy summer evening, and we had a group of nine people. This time, it was just two of us: Apparently, the service is just consistently terrible. If you do venture here, do yourself a favor and sit at the bar. At least you'll eventually get a drink, even if it's served with a side of mild resentment. read more

This rooftop has a great view, however the food was not the best, seemed microwaved and not big enough portions. We had a reservation for 5:00, so as we got to the rooftop we were all stared at like we all had 7 eyes. They said "oh we cannot take you until 5:30, we aren't ready due to a wedding." The manager said he was going to escort us downstairs and come get us when it's 5:30a. As we waited there for 30 minutes we saw the same manager and he continued to ignore us did not get us. We were waiting in the lobby until 5:35 and we finally got up and went upstairs. We were lucky we didn't have anywhere else to be because we were waiting around 35 minutes past the time our reservation was set for. They could have easily sent a text or message on open table but instead judged us and gave us attitude, specifically the manager he was dismissive and rude. I don't really recommend here if you want food. read more

We were excited to try out this rooftop spot but were extremely disappointed. We went around 3:30 on a Saturday and it was not busy at all. We did not have a reservation so the hostess said she needed a minute to move some things around. A couple mins lead to over 15 to seat us. This should have been our sign to leave. When they did finally seat us, they never gave us menus. We sat for 10 mins with no menus and no server. Finally we left without having ever talked with a server or got water. When we walked by the server station, 3 waitresses were just standing around talking. As a former waitress/bartender, this establishment was infuriating and a waste of a beautiful spot. We watched 2 other tables get up and leave as well. Very poorly managed The views are great but not worth the frustration. Can't speak for the food. read more

Everything about this place was perfect! I was created by the nicest hostess, wish I got her name , and Felicia the managed, soooo incredible kind, our party was a tad behind and they were so accommodating! Food was fantastic, we had the specialty pizza, sliders, fries and more! Drinks were STRONG but so good! Some places you pay $15+ and they are watered down! View was stunning and atmosphere was just right! DJ at 9pm was really good too! Would 100% recommend!!! read more

I came here with my friend on Aug 3rd - we were really excited to catch up and enjoy the city views! We were first offered a table away from the city view despite the rooftop being very empty, we asked to move and were able to get a better view, but wish it had been offered to us first. Our waitress seemed VERY out of it. She took my friend's order, but then started leaving before taking mine. Our food (chicken sliders and fries) came out separately instead of together. And, we had asked to split the check evenly, but upon checking my bank account, my card was rung up both times. We just did not have a great customer service experience throughout the night, and ofc it's very important to be accurate with how you ring up a bill - it's not acceptable to have them both on one card. read more

This is a perfect rooftop spot! I come from New York and I was craving something familiar and instead we were greeted by the most inpatient server I have ever experienced (and that goes with saying I've served for over a decade) this spot could be lite! But fire everyone and start over and even then make sure you don't hire ppl that hate people (shocking in this industry) I have never felt so unwelcome in a bar ever they just wanted us out to make room for the next fictitious group when there was dozens of open tables get a new staff!?!!! read more
