Not sure why Grasshopper has such a low rating. Yes, it's your typical pub with bar food but I would argue that they have better food than most other pubs. They have a weekly steak special with mashed potatoes and onion rings that is SOO good, I always take home leftovers and actually enjoy eating here. Last night, I stopped in from a long day at work and didn't feel like getting a meal so went for the mozzarella sticks and broccoli poppers. Their mozzarella sticks are by far the BEST compared to everywhere else I have ever been. You know when you order mozz sticks and take a bite and the cheese separates from the breading? These don't. These are like little nuggets of mozzarella and they are excellent. They are just THAT good. I also got the broccoli popped which pair well with dijon honey mustard. The service at Grasshopper is excellent. All the servers are super nice and they are quick with orders. And it's always nice to come in and see a familiar face! Perhaps kitchen staff changes have brought the quality down? Portions were a good size but it stopped there. Was a loyal customer for many years and every restaurant can have a bad day but meals last week were not worth eating We chose a pasta dish with chicken, red peppers, spinach and mushrooms on a garlic cream sauce. Other than the mushrooms every component of the dish had no flavor. The chicken had grill marks and was thin and impossible to chew likely old. Garlic? None just cream The other entree was Shepherds Pie. It had a cloying taste of over handed powdered bouillon use rendering it too salty to finish. Service was not attentive and I'll give it another chance maybe in six months but it was a disappointment from past experiences. read more

I cannot believe that I've lived so close to this place for so many years and I never tried it nor did anyone ever inform me about how good the food was. My mom is in a rehab battling cancer and I knew I needed to grab something to eat because I have been there all day so this was on my way home and I was like you know what there's not many cars in the lot. Let me go grab some thing and I'm so glad that I did. . I was greeted immediately, and I had a seat at the bar ordered myself a glass of wine, which they gave a very nice pour on, and then I decided on the vegetable stuffed salmon with shrimp. It was delicious. It was cooked perfectly and was so fresh and it came with a side of mashed potatoes, which were definitely freshly made. And you cannot beat the price for $21 , my only thing is that the Porsche is not that big. 3 1/2 stars Always pass this location on my way to a friends house. Don't know if it's the same as the old Grasshoppers behind Giants Stadium (no longer there). We only ordered chicken fingers with fries which the teens liked. Wings. I didn't try them but they said they were good. Reubens were good but needed more dressing and some of the corn beef was a tad chewy. Otherwise it was a cool looking place to grab a quick bit. Service was excellent!! The Grasshopper Too is my go to place for a corned beef sandwich and a draft. The sandwich is thick with juicy quality corned beef and a 20 oz. domestic draft at $3.50 does not hurt either. The sandwich comes with a small cup of coleslaw and steak fries. In my book that is comfort food. The pric has gone up since Covid and is now $12.95. The pastrami sandwich is also good and for the rest of their menu, I could not tell you. This is an Irish pub/restaurant with a full circular bar, drink specials and free buffet during Happy Hour 4-7, Mon-Fri. They also feature "Karoake, live bands, dance parties and there is never a cover charge. The parking lot is often filled with spill over parking in the train station lot. This evening service (server - June) was horrific. She never checked on our table til after appetizers were cleared by the buser. Our dinner came and once again she never appeared. When we asked for a container to wrap our food up, she gave the tinest container that there was no chance it would fit in there. We requested a larger container to only get attitude from her in return. We waited another 15 minutes to get our check and she disappeared. The resturant was deserted at 8:20pm. The buser was constantly around and did a greater job. We dine here regularly but after tonight's service not sure if we will be returning. read more

This was my first time eating here and last. My fish and chips were extremely greasy , and it was falling apart. My brother ordered the shepherd pie that was extremely salty. The waitress had attitude and never checked on us. We had to bother other waiter and waitress to help. God for bid, if we ask her suggestions on hard cider liquor, an extremely attitude asking that question. I was so disgusted here that I told my brother, "Let's get out of here and go get dessert somewhere else.". I will not be returning. To the owner, this is not a good impression on first-time people trying your restaurant, especially from your waitress. I have been here many times. Used to come for Monday Night Football at the bar which has a lot of $5 apps and specials. The food is always great and there's a good bar style type selection as well and regular entrees. Very good draught selection as well as bottled beer. Went for dinner last night and had the jumbo Grasshopper burger. Asked for medium rare and burger was well done. Asked the waiter for lettuce and tomato and he took 10 minutes to bring it out after we reminded him after waiting 5 minutes. I tried to cut the burger in half and the roll just crumbled as it was stale. With the limited menu I would think the items that they have would be fresh. Just ordered a steak sandwich and French dip. Never got the au jus sauce so my gf drove back to get it and the owner comped the whole bill wow that was just unbelievably nice over a simple sauce. Met some friends here for drinks, dinner and a little dancing. Super busy place- I had no idea how packed it gets. They have some pretty good dinner specials I had the Chicken Francaise, very light batter, lemon butter sauce was perfect and I had a side of fries - I know but I wanted fries. Hubby had the Chicken Parm and he said it was really good- huge portions on both dishes, on hind sight we probably shouldn't have ordered appetizers but we did and they were delish- potato skins, buffalo wings with blue cheese. They had a sampler platter but it would have been wayyy too much. The booth in the back area where the dance floor is a bit from the restrooms so you need to navigate but they are clean and well stocked (speaking for the ladies room) even late into the evening when the restaurant bar area is packed with patrons, they are keeping the restrooms clean. There is nice mix of music to listen too the band that was playing the night we went was pretty decent and kept the floor packed. Grasshopper is definitely a townie bar and I don't like going because I hate forced/unwanted reunions with people you haven't spoken to in 10+ years. With that being said, the rest is all great. Their food is pretty legit and they have a large bar with ample seating. I had the Shepard's Pie with French onion soup and both we're 5 star worthy. The prices are decent too and there is plenty of parking. The inside is definitely dated and very dark but oh well, the food is good enough that I can look past those insignificant details. All in all if you're looking for great pub food, this is your spot. It also is a big night life spot for this area as well but I do not really participate in that because I don't want the forced reunions. read more

A great Irish pub among the plethora in Northern NJ! I always have a good time and a good meal when I meet friends or family for dinner. Ever since THe Carlstadt Grasshopper changed owners I have been looking for a go to place for fish and chips and a nice cold guinness. The decor was beautiful but the food was not up to par. i ordered the fish and chips and a cup of soup (Lobster Bisque). The Lobster bisque was tasty but to me it needed bigger chunks of lobster. the Fish and chips on the other hand was not good, it had a bad taste to it like the fish was old and the tartar sauce was not good either. I would not be going back there for fish and chips. maybe to grab a guinness but that would be it. read more

Love this place, actually all three locations. Enjoying an amazing bowl of Clam chowder. Right amount of veg and clam that is not chewy, nice flavors of Bay leaf and thyme not too salty just the way I like it and rivals some of the best. Also had a couple of Bass on tap with a mushroom & Cheddar Cheese Burger cook exactly as requested.
