The Grasshopper Too couldn't compare to the Grasshopper in Carlstadt NJ. Ever since THe Carlstadt Grasshopper changed owners I have been looking for a go to place for fish and chips and a nice cold guinness. The decor was beautiful but the food was not up to par. i ordered the fish and chips and a cup of soup (Lobster Bisque). The Lobster bisque was tasty but to me it needed bigger chunks of lobster. the Fish and chips on the other hand was not good, it had a bad taste to it like the fish was old and the tartar sauce was not good either. I would not be going back there for fish and chips. maybe to grab a guinness but that would be it. read more

Well, I think I need to update my review and add a Star... My wife and I came here for an impromptu Happy Hour, thanks to my awesome Mother in Law, on Wednesday night. We arrived about 6ish or so, not too busy. Picked a spot at the bar and ordered our drinks.. My wife a Chardonnay and I a Stella. Very yummy!! After some time, we decided to eat dinner there. I ordered their Reuben sammach, with fries. Very filling sammach was hand-delivered to me and I dove right in. Plenty of Corned Beef, Sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese with the right touch of Russian Dressing, covered my evenly-toasted piece of Rye bread. I was a very happy camper!! Served hot and tasted very fresh! Thinly sliced Corned Beef is what it's all about! I'm not a fan of big ole' fat pieces of meat. I love my meat sliced thin. I'm gonna sway from my new "Pro's and Con's" review outline that I usually use and end my update on this note. I love coming here. Place will and does get busy!! I have never had a bad meal here. The soup is always good especially the French Onion. The burgers are outstanding especially the bacon blue cheese burger. There is a mountain of bacon on it. The onion rings are outstanding and the fries are very good especially well done with malt vinegar. For you corned beef fans, they have a Coleman's Mustard which s a must. Ordered a full Irish breakfast (using online delivery) and what arrived was not what was described in the menu. No black pudding, no baked beans. The sausage was rubbery and the toasted English muffin was somehow still cold inside. I know I shouldn't try comparing this to authentic traditional Irish breakfasts I've had, but this should not have been advertised as one. My girlfriends and I dined here for lunch today. I am so incredibly disappointed. After narrowing down a list of a few potential lunch choices, we decided to go with Grasshopper too because we wanted a faster lunch that would be under an hour. We arrived around noon, placed our orders, and had the salads and bread basket within a few minutes. At this point, we were one of only a couple occupied tables. After devouring our house salads, our plates were cleared and we waited and waited and waited. After much talking, we realized that we had been sitting at the table for about 1 hour and still had no entrees. When we looked around, we noticed many tables filled with people who came in after us who were just finishing up their lunches. To say that we were displeased was an understatement. I was able to catch our waitresses attention. She told us that she just "pulled your ticket". This perplexed us a bit. Once the waitress hands in a ticket, shouldn't the meal preparation begin? In my previous visits here, our entrees were usually out just around the time we were finishing up our soups or salads. She claimed that the kitchen was backed up. While the kitchen may in fact have been backed up, if the ticket had been given to the kitchen staff at the time of our order, there shouldn't have been any backup because there was barely anyone there at that point. About 10 minutes later, our food finally arrived. I asked the waitress to speak with a manager. She immediately got defensive with us and said that it wasn't her fault that the kitchen was backed up. We told her that we never said it was her fault, but the length of time to receive our entrees was unacceptable. A couple minutes later the manager shows up, also on the defensive. In my experience with restaurant managers, they usually come over in a cordial manner and say something to the likes of, "I understand there is a problem, how can I assist you?" Instead, she came over and said she "can't comp our meals". Excuse me, but did we even ask you to comp our meals? Talk about being presumptuous. We wanted to alert you of an issue which we felt was unacceptable. After some one sided discussion, she offered us drinks or dessert. We told her again that we needed to get back to work and couldn't sit there any longer. She had us each select a dessert from the dessert menu, which she packaged and brought out to the table. We boxed up our meals since there was no time to eat. When I got back to work, my friend and I opened up our desserts to find a partial portion. I ordered a slice of NY Style Cheesecake, what I got was a sliver. It was less than 1/2 inch wide. The manager told us she was giving us each a dessert, not a partial dessert. The slices we received were noticeably smaller than their hefty $5.50 price tag. If you offer us a dessert, at least have the decency to give a full-sized portion. I was able to watch the games at the bar and my table too. The handicap parking was right next to the door and inside the chairs were comfortable. My overall experience was 5 stars. read more

Came here with family for the first time. Lot's of parking in front of an unassuming Bar with a massive sign that says "GRASSHOPPER TOO". We went inside and immediately knew that looks can be deceiving. The decor was polished, renovated, modern with rustic charm. Yes it did have "flare" on the walls, but not much and it was all appropriate. It in no way looked like an applebees threw up all over the restaurant. Grasshopper too is is family style Irish pub with classic and modern Irish fare. It features a full bar with a quality beer selection, highlighted with craft beers. The food ranges from traditional hamburgers to things like bangers and mash. Our table was neat, clean and set properly. Even though we were surrounded by others there was still enough space between everyone that we felt secluded. Grasshopper Too muddles the line between Towny bar and gastro-pub, but hey, I'm not complaining. That is, it seemed like the tables knew each other. It's nice to see a place so packed with so many happy faces. Always a good sign when eating somewhere. I ordered a New Castle draft to start. Others got Yuengling and I think a Blue moon. When the waiter came back with our beers-- right before we ordered-- they slapped down on the table a warming familiar scent. I looked down and saw authentic Irish Soda Bread with raisins (warm and crisp) with some pats of butter on the side. This is a nice thing to chew on as you drink your beer or wait on your food. They also refilled the basket multiple times without even asking. Nice to see. My meal was simple, I had already eaten before so I wasn't so hungry. I opened with a house salad with creamy Italian dressing ($4.95). It came with crisp lettuce, sweet tomatoes and some crunchy croutons. They put the dressing on the side without me even asking. Smart people running this place. My main was pan seared New England crab cakes with a honey dipping sauce on the side. The crab cakes were soft, and tender but crispy on the outside. The honey dipping sauce wasn't anything special but it did pare well with the crab cakes. Though the crab cakes were so moist and flavorful they really didn't need a dipping sauce.($7.95) Others at the table got salad, shepherds pie, and deliciously fresh Fish and chips. The french fries were firm and salted appropriately. Everyone was happy with their meals and though the place was packed we were never rushed. Even when we were done with the bill, reclining in our chairs and conversing, the host never rushed us out. They let us enjoy every moment, undisturbed. I go to Wayne every now and then and we always wonder where we should go out to eat. Well, now that I know this is only 15 minutes from where I visit in Wayne, we will probably be eating here more often. Thanks for the great time! read more

If I could rate this place negative stars, I would. The blonde bartender is the most rude woman in the entire place, she has a nasty attitude and has no idea how to treat customers. She also messed up my drink and had to remake it- it still tasted horrible after she remade it btw so I didn't bother drinking it. The waiters started kicking people out 10 minutes before closing and one of them even snatched my friends drink while it was up to her mouth. He then proceeded to yell at customers to leave, calling them losers wanting to stay there when they were not even supposed to be closed yet. Absolutely horrible ALL AROUND. So last October 2020, which was a crazy year for all of us, I got up to the mic and was my turn to sing, I got stage fright and ran off to the girls bathroom crying. My concerned brother ran after me to the door of the girls room. They kicked us out Cuz I was crying and a man went to the girls room which only had me inside, his sister. Now it's June 30 2021 and we show up to sing after a long day at work got home changed and all pretty to only get turned away at the door by the same bouncer that gave us a problem cuz I was crying. When my girlfriend was away from the table one of the waitresses replaced her empty drink with water without asking what she had and if she wanted a refill the same thing happened to my friend. Really nice homey feel inside. Definitely a little pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Been here twice now. Both times service was kinds, speedy, and efficient. I never felt rushed, but my stomach didn't start eating itself during a grueling wait.. The food here is good. Burgers are delicious and juicy and the French onion soup is to die for. It come out piping hot with an exorbitant amount of cheese. The biscuits they give you with your meals are hit or miss. Once they were hard and stale and once they were soft and fluffy. The real menu winners however, are their Irish fare section. The fish and chips may seem like a simple meal, but at the Grasshopper, they turn basic fried fish into party for your tastebuds. The tarter sauce they serve bests any ive had before and pairs very nicely with the fish. The chips are very good too. Nice thick cut fries served with malt vinegar really help finish off this catch of meal. The shepherds pie is very flavorful although I think they go a little too heavy on the mash potatoes. This isn't to say the potatoes are not delicious! I just think a higher ratio of meat to potato could really improve this dish. Will be back. read more

We called ahead and asked how long the wait was for 4. We were told we would get seated right away. We were down the street and when we got in there was a long wait. The hostess Gene said "I have no idea" when I asked.how long the wait was. After a half hour we were seated. I ordered a burger medium well. They brought it out for us and I was about to bite into it when Gene comes snatches it out of my hand and takes the plate and says "this is the wrong one"....I've never had this happen before. The waitress comes and brings out the same burger but it was rare. I barely ate. Gene is an absolutely useless woman who clearly is overwhelmed. Hands down, my FAVOURITE PUB EVER!.. Its an authentic Irish pub with lots of good beer on tap, lots in bottles and every popular liquor you can think of... The food is good (no, its not gourmet), but the thing that really sets this place far ahead of all other pubs is the bartenders...They are professional and career bartenders, not college kids or hot chicks looking for tips... Even during the busiest times, the bartenders are alert, watching over everything and have a complete handle on the entire place...You'll never need to flag someone down for anything...By the time you get to the bottom of your glass, they're right there shooting the $hit with you and seeing if you are having another... Hadn't been to 'The Hopper' in about five or six years. Went last weekend to see a pretty good band from North Bergen that came up. There were obvious renovations to the place since the last time I had been there. The bar is a lot nicer now and there's more room around it. Pretty good selection of craft beer on tap: Brooklyn Oktoberfest, Magic Hat, and several others. The glasses they use now are typical English pint glasses which is great! Tired of going to these bars that give you a glass with a Coors Light or Miller Lite logo slapped on it. The bar area has improved a lot with these little things. The area the band played in was pretty spacious as well. They weren't right on top of you, and there was even a good amount of area for a dance floor. The crowd is hit or miss. You still get a lot of older locals from Lincoln Park and lower Wayne drifting in and out; as was the case years ago. Bartenders are good guys and take care of you. Haven't had the food in several years so I can't comment here. Overall, it's a step up in terms of Irish bars in the area. If they keep good imports and craft beers on tap, and in bottles, I'm sure the demographic of people will change as more of the 35 and under crowd are gravitating to better beer. Not a bad place to step out to for a few pints or to see a band. I'll definitely come back a little more often. read more

Oh my God.....Went there this morning for Mothers Day breakfast. We were the first in the door at 11am..so being busy is not an excuse. We ordered the Irish breakfast with bacon and sausage. To say the sausage or bacon was Irish would be a lie. The bacon was not Irish rasher bacon and the sausage was turning/ going sour and not Irish. My family is Irish from the other side and we eat authentic Irish foods all the time. My son's French Toast was burnt. I will never return or recommend this place. 7 years my favorite restaurant, and going strong during Covid! My husband and I have gone to the Hopper for so long that I have probably tried everything on the menu. This is the ONLY restaurant worth ordering from during the Pandemic. Even when they have an "off" night, which is rare, their food quality and service is still amazing! Also, their portion sizes are HUGE! We always get two meals from one entree, and they don't skip on the condiments! When I take a night off from cooking, I know the Grasshopper will deliver the best. Dreadful experience. I made a reservation to celebrate my friend's birthday saying he wants a table to see the TV's to watch sports. Stuck us in corner where you could not see anything but one TV with last year's Patriots-Chiefs game. Asked them to change it and they never did (they said they lost the remote). Told them plain cheeseburger, no lettuce, pickles, tomatoes anywhere on the plate. Showed up with divots in the bun and my last two bites of burger were filled with pickle juice where the waitress informed me she thought she got it all off the bun. Besides the pickle juice, my burger was good, but the rest of our party said their food was, at best, fair.
