My recent visit to this restaurant was a complete disaster from start to finish. I truly wish I could give it zero stars. The service was dreadful our waiter was incredibly rude and unprofessional, failing to even greet us or introduce himself. We felt rushed to order, we asked for lemonades then after asked for another drink by the time we were handed the lemonades and when I politely asked to keep my lemonade, he rolled his eyes and tried to snatch it from my husband's hand. The food was equally disappointing. The ceviche was overwhelmingly salty, making it inedible, and my husband's "Birria" Burrito bore no resemblance to what was described on the menu or what a true birria SHOULD BE. We then ordered the birria tacos that were acceptable, the waiter's behavior continued to be an issue. He ignored my husband's request for the check, instead bringing our to-go items one by one before FINALLY presenting the bill - with an unearned tip already added?! To top it all off, we noticed the staff talking and laughing about us, and the same waiter stared us down as we left and got into our car. This was an incredibly uncomfortable and unwelcoming experience. The place was empty, yet there was a DJ playing, on a Friday night of all times!? To be fair Mexican is my least favorite cuisine but my friends wanted to have dinner here so I was a good sport. There's both good and bad elements here: Good: adorable decor, trendy and fun. Food and drinks are beautifully presented. Nothing is overly salty or seasoned. I liked the salsa and fresh chips, use them sparingly because it's not unlimited refills. The cheese in my quesadillas was delicious. Areas to grow: service is spotty because of a language barrier. Have empathy for the staff, they are trying. Management should be working on the floor to help both the servers and customers with communication. Charging $2 for a single soufflé cup of sour cream is a bit excessive, a 16oz container of it at ShopRite is 1.99! Price point overall is a little high for the neighborhood. read more

I loved the other Jalapeños location in Glen Rock. It's bigger and has a much larger menu, too. We decided to go here since it was closer at the time. As soon as you're seated, you're offered complimentary tortilla chips & salsa (so good!). We ordered the calamari, tacos, fries, fajitas, and chimichanga. Embarrassing. They had a limited selection which, fair. But the food was unappealing, undercooked and plain Bad. Went on a weekday early afternoon and there was only one server (potentially manager or owner) who wasn't very friendly and didn't even mention happy hour specials (overheard a couple who came in later ask about it). I'm on the fence with this restaurant and it makes me sad. If we're rating the food, it's pretty good! I've come twice and we tried things like the Empanada trio, Birria Pizza, tacos gringos, guacamole, and a few other things. Really good, didn't disappoint at all. I was very surprised with the service we rec.'d today. We got to the restaurant alittle after 7. Maybe 7:05 or 7:06. Something to that extent. We had reservation for 7 pm. I understand that it's Mother's Day weekend but the wait we experienced to get our food was unacceptable and the way the manager treated us was not ok. Our waiter was very apologetic but the manager seemed like she didn't care. We wait about two hours to get our food finally. When I approached the manager to let her know we just wanted our check for everything we rec.d which was only our drinks and appetizers which was about close to 9. All she could say was well you guys ordered at 7:30 I saw everything. There was never I'm sorry for the delay we are back up anything, it felt like she was blaming us. I told her go check and see what time we came in because we got here before 7:30. She left and never came back. The waiter came to us with check with a 20 percent discount and once again he was super nice and was very sorry for kitchen being backed up. She never came back out. She just didn't care. If you are looking to party on a Sunday morning, that's the place (is really loud!). The food unfortunately needs improvement. My sister and I visited on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. They have a parking lot. We arrived at 1pm and we were seating immediately. Not too long after I noticed it got crowded. We were greeted immediately by the manager, Marcelo. Marcelo & our waitress, Itzel (I apologize if misspelled) were great. We opted for the bottomless margarita - which is the real reason we wanted to try this spot out! The margaritas were delicious and they did a great job at making sure our cups were filled. They also bring chips and salsa to start. We ordered the chicken empanadas to start. They were yummy! For entrees, my sister got the birria bowl and I got the birria tacos. We both got beef. The food was good but we had gotten full from the margaritas that we ended up taking our food to go. The entertainment was great! They had a DJ and the variety of music was good. They had two dancers going around to the different tables and performing. They had some sort of 'contest' where they asked a certain amount of people to go up and hype up the crowd. My friends and I decided to check this place out after seeing their margarita made a list of the best in Northern NJ. We tried their margarita flight, but unfortunately none of the varieties were stand out. Maybe their regular margarita was better but the flavors on the flight were lacking. The tacos I had were just ok too. The outside looks sort of old and run down but the interior was quiet festive and cute. Really liked the oil wall paint. We ordered the beef birria tacos and the fish tacos. Both were just OK. Nothing really to rave about. The birria tacos were slightly too greasy. I personally liked the fish tacos more. Tried their alitas de pollo and that was just your regular Buffalo chicken wings. Great tasting food! I thought the outside was really cute either their multi-colored rails leading into the restaurant. Our server was knowledgeable ans attentive and food came out relatively quick. I went with the chicken birria bowl which was both filling and delicious. We decided on not ordering apps and thank goodness because this bad boy was more than enough to feed my hungry belly. My girlfriend ordered the beef birria tacos and it was also delicous! I do prefer the beef to the chicken so would opt for that next time. If I can give this place negative stars, I would do just that. For starters our reservation was at 7:30 and we didn't get seated until 8:22. The girl at the front said we didn't have reservations as she read of a crumbled up receipt paper saying we didn't have a reservation (our name was on the back) and she looked at it in disbelief. We sat down and waited 10 minutes for a menu, 25 minutes for drinks, 45 minutes for appetizers. When we got our food, the corn was canned corned that was heated in the microwave, fries were horrible, AND we ended up cancelling last round of drinks because we finished ALL our food parched. Also, music was so loud that we couldn't even communicate with each other let alone with the waitress without yelling. To top it off, it was 4 of us, we gave 4 cards and they only charged 3... Gave us back 4 receipts to obviously get upset because we got charged more than we needed to. That was probably the worst experience ever. I would never go there again. Meats and seafood wasn't fresh at all. The glasses of the drinks were also so dirty. The corn was frozen and not fresh.
