This place is really cute! Totally a local's spot and hard to find unless you're really looking for it. It's out of the inner city and away from a lot of touristy things. My boyfriend and I both had a hot cappuccino to start. The cappuccino was tasty and strong. It came swerved in paper cups without a lid or warmer which was kind of odd since the coffee was boiling hot, but there is a service station with all the fixings and supplies one needs to take their tasty caffeine of choice to go. Next we had breakfast sandwiches. My boy got the bacon egg and cheese on an English muffin, I got a BEC on a bagel. The food was good. Since I'm from New York I can't say much about the bagel, but the eggs were cooked fresh and the bacon was crispy. We both got a large iced coffee to go before leaving. It was cool, refreshing and fresh. They had a large case of pastries that I really wanted to gobble up but was pretty full by the time we finished. They have great looking donuts, cookies, and turnovers. They also have a whole selection of coffee beans to go and ice cream! This shop was super cute and service was wonderful. When we walked in there was a long line and a girl came around from behind the counter to take orders while people ahead paid. This is a down-to-earth coffee and breakfast shop. The soy milk latte I got was very hot and the soy seemed to be steamed well which I enjoyed, but the coffee itself is OK (my friends agree it is not amazing). My friend also got a mocha and the chocolate was all at the bottom. They have a wide variety of sweet pastries, as well as some sandwich and bagel options (fyi they do not have GF options if you are looking out for that). It's not fancy stuff, but I would come here if you want to try a local favorite. read more

Cool local coffee shop! I've always lived near Zekes but recently started giving them a try. First started going during the winter months when they were promoting their spiked coffees and hot chocolates which are SO good! I've since had their some of their sandwiches and pastries along with iced coffee. All tasty and satisfying. Zekes is a nice lowkey spot to grab coffee and something good to eat. Zeke's has the best coffee. I particularly like Gunpowder espresso and the 1800. They're dark roasts and outstanding. However, I've had breakfast sandwiches there twice and the food is bad, real bad. The sausage must be made in-house because it so poorly seasoned that no restaurant would serve it. The everything bagel was like a hockey puck and had no. flavor or texture. I was only in Zeke's for 5 minutes to grab a Chai while my girlfriend was getting tattooed down the street. But my brief experience was a great one! Hands down my favorite coffee place in Bmore. I love this well-lit gem in Hamilton and its laid-back vibe. First, the coffee - plenty of well-balanced blends and a great fair-trade/organic selection. Armistead's Blend is DELICIOUS. Everything else is just as great. Customer service is A+, every time. Super-friendly staff that are cool to talk with and very helpful. Yummy bakery offerings (Hamilton Bakery, I believe?) - try the rugelach. They also sell burlap coffee sacks for $1 - great for upcycling/repurposing. Free wifi. All around a great place to read some satire and enjoy a delicious cup of joe. read more

I didn't try any of the food/pastries but I noticed almost everyone around me was eating something so I'll definitely try food next time. Zeke's is just that place to go when you want a great cup of joe. I haven't been in a long time, but it was still the same great place it's always been. Hot coffee, great ambiance, awesome baristas, and cool customers. I love coming here to relax and write out my thoughts. I love watching the people walk by outside, just taking in my surroundings. I visited recently and decided upon a mocha. I had already had lunch & wasn't hungry, but I was forced to order an extra item since they have a six dollar debit/credit minimum. I was slightly disappointed because the pasty I ended up getting was cold and not very good. Next time, I'll ask them to warm up whatever pastry I decide to order behind the counter (I believe they're all refrigerated.) The coffee and beans are good, one of the few places to get fresh beans. However, the service is pretty bad. It's slow even when they're not busy, and this is further complicated when the cashiers asked multiple times for tips to try and drive you up. I bought two bags of beans and didn't have them ground, which is $30. The cashier repeatedly asked if I wanted to tip 15-20% ($4.50 to $6.00) when all they did was ring up the beans that I pulled off the shelf. I'll tip for any service provided, but not for a simple ring-up, and definitely not $6.00 for it, which is more than the price of a latte. It was uncomfortable as they repeatedly asked and it held up the line for everyone behind me. Probably explains why I had to wait for 10 mins when only three people were ahead of me. To be clear, I wholly support generous tipping of anyone providing a service. But if they only ring me up and provide no other service (suggestions, food, drinks), I'm not tipping $6. Just provide a self checkout if it's that big of a hassle for you. read more

This place was suggested to me my an employee at the next door children's book shop. I ate there for lunch and it was great. I had a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant with bacon, lettuce tomato. My new favorite cafe in Baltimore! It's definitely a bit far from the city and located in an unpresumptuous area (parked in a nearby autoshop parking lot), but the coffee, food, and ambiance are no joke. On a Monday, the tables gradually filled up and it wasn't crowded by any means. My friends all ordered coffees, and I had the chai latte, all of which were quite good. When we were thinking about buying more coffee, the workers were super helpful in giving recommendations. I also tried the vegetarian sandwich and the pain au chocolate which were both delicious. Spent most of my time here studying and would definitely come back to do so again. Zeke's is a Baltimore institution for a reason! read more

Zeke's is aces! I used to get coffee from wherever, but now I pretty much stick to Zeke's. I'm not a connoisseur, but I like it better than any of the fancy coffee I buy and way, way better than Chock Full O' Nuts. The breakfast sandwiches are reliably delicious. The specials are sometimes phenomenal. They might all be phenomenal for all I know; I only get them once in awhile and they've been knock outs every time. Portions are awfully generous on those specials. I'm a light eater mostly and I usually share with one of my sons but sometimes the food is too good to share so I just stuff myself instead. The staff are lovely and provide excellent service. Once they even let me buy a pound of coffee 20 minutes after closing. I gave Zekes 2 stars because I really WANT to love it but in reality, based off my experiences, I should've given it 1. I've been here several times trying to make it a regular visit for me since I live in town but each time is worse than the last. My most recent visits sealed the "never to step foot in again" deal for me. One visit I spent nearly $20 on the weekend special, which was migas, a cinnamon roll, and an almond croissant. The migas were great, if not for the potatoes. Who puts potatoes in migas? Nobody, that's who. On the side, sure! IN the migas? No. The cinnamon roll and croissant were both so dry they were impossible to eat. A second visit was $9 for a plain bagel with veggie cream cheese and an iced latte. The latte was so bitter I could barely get through it. I love espresso but this was too much. The bagel was toasted, which I didn't want and wasn't asked, obviously store bought (chewy & rubbery), and the cream cheese was a joke. I actually said "are you fucking kidding me" when I opened it. The store is spacious and immaculate and the staff is extremely friendly but the product is not anywhere near worth the cost. I'm happy they are a thriving business in the community but I'm honestly shocked this product makes them enough money to warrant the larger space. ‍ read more

I love this place- it is the rare "neighborhood gem" that is equally loved both by the people in the neighborhood, as well as people across the country. They regularly ship all over the US, and, as someone who works in many states, I can't count the number of times I've been asked to bring a bag or two of Zeke's for friends. The coffee is great, and they always are trying newer ways of brewing and serving it- they are always at the forefront of whatever coffee innovation is happening in the culinary world. All of this would be meaningless, though, if the experience of having a cup was unpleasant! The staff is wonderful- I can't say enough good things about them. The entire staff is diligent, friendly, conversational, fast- what could you not like? Rachel, Steve, Monday, Cole, Max, John, and all of the others I'm forgetting here- I can't say enough good things about them! I love this place! read more

Went for the first time today and it was, at most, a mediocre experience. I drove about thirty minutes to try Zeke's after having a friend rave about them, and after seeing all their different bagged varieties sold in the shop I got very optimistic. However, after ordering a large hot latte with cookie dough flavoring, I can say I'm less than impressed. Overall, it was good, but there was nothing great about it, especially for the price. The large hot latte was about 20 ounces and with syrup cost $5.50, which is about average for a coffee shop, but I don't really think it was worth it in my opinion; I would have been happier ordering an espresso beverage from a chain. What I liked: Extremely friendly cashier and cool atmosphere when you walk in. A plethora of very large, intriguing baked goods to choose from (such as Carrot Cake Whoopie Pies the size of my hand). Plenty of flavors to choose from for your coffee, and an extremely helpful signage for new coffee drinkers who might not know the differences between each specialty beverage. What I disliked: There wasn't a menu or anything that had all the available flavors to choose from. The cashier was helpful with suggesting a flavor, but it would've been more helpful to have a tangible list of some sort to see what my options were rather than try and describe what I'm looking for (sometimes you just don't know until you see it)! The syrups are Torani; don't get me wrong, that's a popular brand, but it's generally a more inexpensive, artificial tasting syrup. I would've been much happier to see Monin syrups, which for the price, would have made it worth it. There is also no latte art whatsoever, and you have to be really careful not to spill your beverage if you're dining in because they serve it to the top in a large paper cup without a lid... you have to try and balance it (without burning yourself on the thin cup) back to your table or to the coffee station to retrieve a sleeve/lid for it. The espresso itself was light and not very distinguishable from other places; I prefer a much richer, darker blend. Tip: If you like sweet coffee, you'll definitely want to ask for extra extra extra syrup! As I said, I ordered a large latte with cookie dough syrup, but it was so subtle that I couldn't taste it whatsoever. Carpool if going with friends, because the parking lot behind Zeke's is extremely small. It's also very easy to miss if it's your first time -- so drive slow! All in all, if I'm nearby and needed coffee, I might stop in. But, if I can, I'll keep driving to the next local cafe. read more

The location, the space, WiFi, parking in the back: these are great features. We prefer the coffee from The Daily Grind or Vigilante coffee (that we buy in Fells Point). This is a question of taste of course. We also prefer to patronize neighborhood, smaller coffee shops, like Artifact, Bird in Hand, even Atwater, places where staff is trained to make "latte art" (this actually produces a better quality foam, so it's not just a question of design). Unfortunately big business like Zeke's and Starbucks are just minding the bottom line. But we wish Zeke's continued success, since the place is good for the neighborhood. read more

I like the coffee at Zeke's, all the drinks I've had are pretty solid at the coffee shop, friendly staff, although a little pricey...that being said, I ordered a coffee and a mocha from their truck at the Waverly Farmer's market today and I was very disappointed. The coffee was weak and watered down and the mocha was the same weak coffee with a spoonful of chocolate powder. It tasted awful. I finally gave up on drinking it and ended up tossing it. I do like Zeke's though and how they are a part of the Baltimore community. I hope they step up their game in the truck. read more

We love zekes! We sell it at our bakery (Kupcakes & co) in Elkridge, MD, but I wanted to go see the shop for myself and try something other then royal blue. The woman recommended I tried the Balinese blend and my boyfriend got the hippie blend. We ordered a cup of the armstead house coffee and a creme brûlée latte. Both were out of this world phenomenal! I just moved to the Hamilton area and am so glad Zeke's is walking distance to my home. The ambience is casual, friendly, and draws a diverse clientele. Good for hanging out, and reading or working. It accommodates single-person guests to large groups. The baristas are friendly, timely, and good at what they do. I ordered a medium roast drip coffee, and a toasted sesame bagel with peanut butter. The coffee was excellent, and the pb to bagel ratio was right to my liking. It seems like the whole Hamilton-Lauraville community comes by, which makes it feel like you're really part of the community. I imagine that living close by and returning I'll see some familiar faces. That said, I see why baristas have good rapport with the customers. I'll be back! read more
