Overbird Bakery in Baltimore's Little Italy is baking artisan, European-style sourdough breads and pastries that uses spices and flavors from Turkey as well as the Mediterranean. When I walked in the other day, the baked goods on display made my jaw drop. I would have loved to stay and enjoy my breakfast but I had to get back home so grab and go is my only option. First time here, I'm going to start with a croissant and a special latte they were promoting. The croissant comes to me, warm and fresh in the bag. Ovenbird is a beautiful, spacious bakery offering coffee, tea, breads, pastries, sandwiches, and soups. I got their vegan sandwich option, the veggie sandwich (hummus, spouts, tomato, avocado, etc), which was fantastic. The side of bagel chips was well worth the extra dollar or two, and overall the prices were quite reasonable ($10 for my sandwich--and it was not a small sandwich!) There was a long line, but we were able to find a table relatively quickly. The vegan cinnamon roll was unfortunately out by the time I arrived, but I would love to have tried that (their other pastries looked incredible). For coffee, I got the coldbrew, which was delicious with a bit of oatmilk. The high ceilings make it feel larger than it is, and the bright patterns add so much personality to what would otherwise be a rather austere industrial space. I visited the Ovenbird in Little Italy and was informed of this location by the staff. We decided to check the bigger location out. Parking was sought on the street about a block away. Once we entered there was a line to order which was to the door; pretty lengthy. We decided to order at the bar. Once we ordered we then had to find seating which is first come first seat. We were lucky that someone was finished and we were able to get seated. Everything was seeming to go well, until drinks came and some odd reason the receipt was reviewed which allowed for capturing an error in what we paid vs what we ordered (drinks). We ordered a hot pistaschio matcha latte and a hot vanilla latte with skim. We were charged for Soy milk and it was an upcharge. After bringing it to the bartender attention it was corrected. However, thw Pistaschio Matcha came minus the pistaschio favoring. After sitting for awhile the bartender came over took the drink and added the favoring; however, the drink is luke warm and it did not help. This drink was then given back. Our breakfast sandwiches came out ok. We ordered bacon, egg, cheese on plain and everything bagel. The egg was a little bigger then a 50 cent piece. And this was alarming to the size of a bagel. The bagel was not soft as I had from the one in Little Italy. The sandwich was not the worse but not that good based on the egg and bagel texture. It looks like the price point can not be justified by the product. It looks like its the aesthetic look I am paying for. I will visit the location in Little Italy and not here again. read more

I really wanted to love this place but it simply missed the mark. First off, the entrance is on Grundy St, not Gough as you might expect. Limited street parking is available. Ovenbird is vibrant and beautifully decorated. It's a great space to sit and socialize. After perusing the menu, I selected the following: Blueberry Frangipane Tart, Bacon, Egg & Cheese on a plain bagel, and a hot vanilla latte. While the tart was delicious, the rest just wasn't hittin'. The BEC was greasy and the bagel a bit dry. As for the latte, it was aesthetically appealing, but meh as it was served lukewarm. This seems minor but instead of having napkins available, there was a centrally located paper towel roll (similar to what you might find in a public restroom). At this price point, I would expect soft napkins and not what felt like fine grain sandpaper. It was a bit off putting. Service was great but I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Came here with a friend and loved it! I've been to the Little Italy location before, but this one is lovely. A ton and good variety of seating with gorgeous and bright decor. You order at the counter, which moves quickly. My friend and I split the plum coffee cake and a savory scone. The plum coffee cake was awesome--moist, flavorful, and not too sweat. The baked in pieces of plum were delicious. The savory scone was OK (not my favorite but I'm from the south were scones are superb) and I wish they had heated it. I love this place! This time I had the turkey havarti on sourdough. It was tasty! I also had the cinnamon toast crunch latte. OMG!!! It's delicious and tastes exactly like the cereal. Spacious and with high ceilings and delightful décor, Ovenbird offers a full range of baked goods, along with sandwiches, soups, salads, and quiches for lunch and all of the usual cafe items for breakfast, such as egg sandwiches, bagels, and avocado toast. But we were there for lunch and we shared a Red Lentil Soup (creamy without cream and full of flavor), the Spinach and Cheese Quiche (heavier on the spinach than cheese as I like it and with a firm and delicious crust) and a wonderfully tasty latte that could have been a little hotter). We were tempted by the gorgeous breads, but left without a loaf, promising to return soon. We didn't have to wait long because at dinner in a friend's home two nights later, they served Ovenbird's rich Whole Wheat Sourdough and we had to hold ourselves back to leave room for the rest of the meal. The pastries look luscious, but we behaved ourselves. The friendly and professional staff seems to know all of the regulars and this adds to the warm ambience and comfortable experience. I was highly skeptical on the way to this location. It takes you thru some seemingly questionable neighborhoods. However, once you arrive its like being transported to another realm. It has a clean aesthetic mixed with a cozy, warm and a modernly rustic vibe that makes you feel at ease. The staff are very kind and offer great recommendations if you cant figure out what you want because everything looks or sounds delicious. Spoiler alert-everything is good. Finally, the food was delicious. Ordered a few sandwiches, some drinks and desserts and at worse, they rated a 8/10. Overall 10/10. One of the best salmon and lox I've had for a very affordable price. Upon walking in I was fascinated of the interior as It was vibrant and colorful and very spacious. There were people doing their work and enjoying the stillness of the bakery. I ordered a lox bagel for $10 and It didn't take long for my order to be ready. While I was waiting I looked at the desserts and the cocktail area that I definitely want to try next. My lox bagel was on an everything bagel with herb cream cheese and I took off the tomatoes. Friendly staff, a beautifully decorated interior with comfortable seats and stable wifi/internet! What a gem I'll definitely be coming here for wfh days. My partner got an orange juice blend (he said it was great--it comes bottled) and an apple hand pie. It was crunchy and soft inside! A good size for a personal pie. I got the focaccia bread, and was surprised it was only $6. It smells amazing and I am excited to use it to make sandwiches and as a side for dinners this week! We love Ovenbird. We have been going since we moved to Baltimore in 2020. Their breads are slow fermented sourdough mostly and really good. Their sandwiches are really good but do not travel well. I will preface this, with I have high expectations for my foodie experiences. Smashed meatball sandwich I Cynivised this since I knew going on that as made it is on the dryer side. I added an extra meatball (singular) and sauce for a $1 up-charge. The meatballs were good, I liked the diced pieces of basil in the meatballs and the garlic presence was on point. I am glad I added the extra one as it allowed a bite of meatball in every bite which checks the bread to meat ratio. The ciabatta was a nice crunchy outside with a soft inside. The sauce was way too thin, it was tomato broth consistency and took away from the sandwich. Blood orange rosemary Matcha This overly sweet drink tasted only like matcha. They did not blend the flavors well at all as none of the others were present or tasted. I am assuming it's syrups used to add the flavors which could be why it was so sweet? For the price the cup size is too small. If they could hit all the floats in the title that may make this a better drink. Orange tea cake The batter was over mixed/processed and it showed in the dense dry cake. It was also overly sweet, no orange essence or flavor hitting the palette at all. Hazelnut Raspberry Linzer Bar Very forward raspberry flavor, which is nice. Nutella taste was not present and the bar was ok the drier side. Not my cup of tea. Location has street parking, just read the signs to make sure you aren't parking in time not allowed. Cute decor inside, with nice comfy seats giving it a hangout coffee shop vibe. The food was okay at best and not my cup of tea. I would have preferred to have fresh pastries made that morning and if they sell out they sell out; over the refrigerator stores baked goods that they sold. read more

Absolutely incredible service by staff, amazing pastries, and the cafe's coffee bar is SO GOOD! I really appreciate the care and consideration that Kodzovi and Dylan put into my espresso each day. I brought friends with me the other day and we basically got one of everything! It was their first time trying Ovenbird so we had a lot of fun comparing the different pastries! My personal favorite is the hazelnut fig shortbread (texture wonderland and I ADORE hazelnuts outside of the generic choco-combo). My friends loved the lemon shortbread cookie, citrusy bread (so bright and fresh!) and I think we all agreed the scones were some of the fluffiest, butteriest we've had in a long time... honestly it was hard to not eat everything while we sat there in the cafe! The sandwiches my other friends enjoyed were also deliciously fresh, hot, and packed with flavor. We visited on a beautiful Saturday morning and made it inside right before the rush. SO glad we did cause they can sell out quickly! This flagship bakery location has a warm, eclectic, and inviting vibe. I can imagine coming in to work or read for a bit while sipping my coffee (or two or three). I love how casual it feels and easy it is to move around on my own. Let's start with the ambiance. It is a wonderful, creatively imaginative atmosphere from the moment you walk in. You are immediately part of their, for lack of a better word, dream in vibrant but muted colors. If that makes any sense. You then are caught up in all the tantalizing aromas from coffee, pastries, and other oven bound creations. It's so comforting. The menu is on the countertop, and you also have the visual of some of their offerings. You go over the menu, order, pay, and they call out your name when ready. Very simple. You can get your food to go or hang out in either dining room, and there is not a bad seat in the house. We ordered coffee, and wow, this was the perfect temperature and incredible flavor. Also, we ordered and shared banana walnut coffee cake, moist, and just enough cinnamon with a crumb top. And a raspberry cream cheese Danish style pastry, so light and flaky. We stayed awhile and just soaked it all in. They also have a bar, but I don't know what they serve, perhaps on another visit. The experience was one of the best, and I could find something to enjoy nearly every day. Parking was no problem for a Saturday morning. The only thing that left me unsettled was a customer came in with a leashed dog, and no, it was not a service dog. read more

This location is so spacious and airy! Perfect for a single person getting bread or food or a group! I went to the happy hour that they just launched and it was lovely. They had a small selection of beer and wine and some delicious small plates to share. I wasn't familiar with some of the dishes and the server was very thorough with the descriptions and helpful with explaining the portion sizes. It sounded like the portion size went up as you went down the menu. I got the soft pretzel which tasted a bit like whole grain and the mustard and beer cheese were delicious accompaniments. The potato borek was absolutely delicious. It slightly reminded me of a potato stuffing in Phyllo dough. The Ovenbird dementor was butter, garlic and Phyllo dough and it broke apart like monkey bread. Absolutely delicious! They had one dessert in the affogato. This is a great new location for Ovenbird! The space is large and welcoming, and has tons of places to sit. It's also decorated very beautifully inside. This is the third and largest location of Ovenbird (the other two are in Little Italy and Lexington Market). Located in the Highlandtown neighborhood, this location has plenty of seating and is beautifully decorated with Turkish influences from his wife. It just opened and everyone was there to try the new neighborhood spot. The line seemed really long when you walked in, but the service was fast and friendly. It's always great to see the owner behind the counter too. Now the food. AMAZING bread is made fresh everyday. Grab yourself a loaf. I had the ham and cheese croissant. I thought I was going to eat half of it but the soft, buttery croissant (I mean buttery and flakier than most), the thinly sliced ham and the cheese forced me to gobble it down on the spot. I took home a chorizo jalapeno quiche. I ate it too fast for a picture. The flakey crust was filled with meat and you definitely got some heat from the jalapeno. I had a delicious dirty chia and I look forward to going back to try their boozy drinks. read more

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite coffee shops! The space is pretty spacious so I can almost always find a place to set up when I want to work. They are pretty popular on the weekends so you may have to stake out a spot. The chairs are super comfy near outlets so I've never had an issue there. The staff are so friendly and always welcome you like your a good friend which I find to be a really nice touch. As far as the coffee.. ZERO complaints! They have introduced me to my new favorite drink, an espresso tonic and their new coffee flights allow you to try out a few things before committing. We got two chocolate croissants, one brown sugar pop tart, and two iced lattes for about $30. I loved that the food came on ceramic plates and the drinks came in either ceramic mugs or glassware. The brown sugar pop tart was phenomenal. The chocolate croissant was pretty good- nice lamination, good flake. I got a plain latte, but I did notice that they make their own syrups and might try a flavor next time. All their bread looked great, though I didn't try any.
