My Zaxby's journey began here at this very establishment. The love I have for Zaxby's, it all started here. I truly believe that Zaxby's is one of, if not the very best fast food chains in the US (my opinion only). Naturally, I would give most Zaxby's five stars on a whim because you can't go wrong with their food! I thought it would be the same here, since this was the very first Zaxby's I had ever been to. However, recent visits have made me feel otherwise! Let's get one thing straight. The food is still very good. On my last visit, the chicken was piping hot and juicy, the fries were crispy and seasoned to perfection, and the toast was heavily buttered, just the way I like it. Even on a bad day, Zaxby's stands above the fast food competition. The rest of the restaurant is where I have run into recent problems. Every time I come here (and I'm in a Zaxby's at least once or twice a month) the person here is new and does not know how to handle my receipt coupons that I save up. I guess they recently switched over from surveys where you write a code and then you get the discount, to an e-mail QR code. I brought an older receipt and they looked like I pulled out something from Mars. The employees not knowing how to handle the coupons is a consistent theme at this establishment. The food was standard Zaxby's food. Great chicken, good salads, etc. the problem was the service. Went in around lunch time- there were 5 people working. 1 doing drive through, one far back cooking, and 3 in between fluffing bags and stacking trays. There were no cars in the drive through and no one else at the counter. It took 4min and 38 seconds for someone to even acknowledge I was there. And they knew I was there. They kept averting their eyes. No food was being made; no other activities going on. I'm not sure why this behavior is tolerated. The drive through person finally came over and took my order. Easy access. We stopped by after shopping at HT across the street. We don't eat fast food that often but Zaxby's current TV promo is what roped us in. We both had the southern fried chicken sandwich combo. A bite of the sandwich was kind of bland at first. But ........we ask for some of their "intense sauce". WOW !!! If you like spicy you must try this sauce. Super delicious. The fries were crisp and fresh. Service was quick and everything was clean. What more can you ask for from a fast food place. Okay, let me first start off with - I love Zaxby's food when we are in the mood for it. The traditional chicken wings are amazing and priced really good in comparison to other chicken joints in town. We like to order them plain and have the sauce on the side. That way we can control how much sauce we have on each wing. Our normal order is a traditional wing combo with fries and a drink. Simple enough. Nothing to fancy going on. HOWEVER, each time we go to this location they get the order WRONG in some way. I have ordered thru the app and I have ordered thru drive-thru. It doesn't matter, the order is always WRONG in some way. However, we always go back *inserts eye roll* (we must be people for disappointment, huh?). The last order we did, I noticed while at the drive thru window there was a lot of complaining coming from one of the employees. I didn't make much of it, hey we call have off days. But what stood out to me was that MY ORDER WAS WRONG! Look, I understand that things are rough right now. We are in the middle of a pandemic for goodness sakes; I have worked in the food industry and customer service related jobs, I get it! People will work your LAST nerve over something small. You can't control that but you can control your attitude of how you will respond to the situation, you can control what you allow yourself to say in the presents of other people, you can control getting the orders CORRECT to allow people NOT to complain about the service. For example, remember my order was for plain wings with fries and a drink - on the side wimpy sauce, hot honey mustard, and sweet and spicy. I get home - wings are perfectly cooked, fries are hot, toast (well its there - is it good that's for another day)...sauce? oh yeah got something called nuclear, teriyaki, and hot honey mustard. Checked the recipe, it was keyed in properly. How could this be? How could we receive sauce that was no where what we asked for? Sigh.... Needless to say, let us work on getting the orders right - I promise this will help in getting a better response from your customers and allowing for a better experience for all. This my go-to Zaxby's and it's pretty good most of the time. The customer service has been A+ lately so props to management. The food has always been fresh and I don't recall once when I received cold food. The lines can get a bit long during lunch but it means "fresh food". I like to beat the rush by getting there around 11:30 a.m. Overall, the price point is perfect for the amount of food that you get. This is definitely a great place to visit if you are craving wings for lunch. read more

This is not a bad @Zaxbys to visit. The location is easy to access. I generally get the Wings & Things whenever I visit a Zaxby's. I always order the wings traditional. Because after all, and correct me if I am wrong, but "boneless wings" and chicken tenders/nuggets are the exact same thing, so stop calling them boneless wings. I never understood that. But other than that, I really enjoy having nice hot chicken wings and chicken tenders served to me. The tenders are always a nice size, and are cooked just right. I always get the honey mustard for my chicken, and you have the option of getting other flavors other than Ranch and Zax Sauce, which they may or may not tell you. It is usually a young women with an attitude (not the same one, they have several), so that really makes me not want to come here. I have been to a few Zaxby's over the years. I decided to give our local location a try. For starters entry into the business needed a good cleaning. Tables clearly were not wiped down and the floor needed a visit from a mop (on a dry clear day). All of the staff seemed to be in the back horseplaying instead of focusing on the counter. Some people left because the service was slow. I will admit that I was ready to leave myself. Students from NC State voiced that this was a normal practice to be slow at this particular location. The price was a bit higher than I anticipated. However I remember from a few years back that the portions were rather large. A lot has changed. When I received my order nearly 18 minutes later it was luke warm and the portions of chicken were very small and represented more batter than chicken. The fries were cold and the small container of cole slaw showed signs of more fluid than actual cole slaw. The only positive item to mention was the ice machine for the drink selection. If you like the snow flurry ice then you will like the drinks. Upon trying to get a managers attention was unsuccessful. I am unsure about other Zaxbys locations but this one is one to miss. Clearly Zaxbys must improve its service levels and also its food quality if it is to survive. read more

Much of the food is cooked fresh, so it can take a bit longer than some fast food places. I eat there at least twice a week. The inside wait is seldom over 5 minutes. The menu board doesn't show all the different foods they offer, some other meals on the side wall with pictures and specials can be located on the counter around the cash registers. I wish they would add additional panels to the menu board so all of the menu items could be shown in one location. The online menu shows 9 different sauces are available, I like to try the different dipping sauces, but never remember all of the great flavor names. Original, Wimpy, Nuclear, Teriyaki, Hot Honey Mustard, Tongue Torch, Insane, Sweet and Spicy. Yea, I had to look them up! Hope I can get them to add a list of the sauces on the wall. A little known fact that you can substitute your side item, you get fries by default. They rotate sides from time to time, but always have several items to choose from like Fried Pickles, Onion Rings, White Cheddar Bites, Fresh Potato Chips, Celery Sticks, Cole Slaw, Side Salad, also have Mushrooms I never tried. They added brownies to go with the chocolate chip cookies and the normal 3 flavors of milk shakes. Recently found out they use real ice cream that comes in prepackaged cups, they remove the cover and add milk and your flavor and mix. The manager told me about the new hot spicy chicken sandwich combo that includes a large drink. This combo is a winner, I hope they can keep it on the permanent menu. He said this location is going to be a test kitchen for new items. The more I eat here the more I like the food they are serving. They rotate specials offers every few weeks, they are always a great value because the price includes a large drink. If you shop the Harris Teeter across the street, there is a discount coupon on the back of the receipt. Sometimes they don't get around to cleaning each table between customers but over all they do a petty good job of cleaning the booths, floors and restrooms. If you tell them about a problem they take care of it fairly fast. Very helpful friendly staff and doesn't seem like a lot of turn over, so better at their assigned jobs. Many customers never tell the staff when they empty the ketchup or tea containers, so the next customer has to wait while it gets changed. It looks like an older review was posted on the Cary location was meant for the Zaxby's near NCSU in Raleigh on Hillsborough St. I don't think the Cary location was even in business on the posted date, maybe Cary was used because it is listed first! read more

Chicken finger plate is awesome, as all other food here. I am revising this review because just now (9/11/14) I got some Zaxby's for lunch -- Chicken Finger Plate with extra Zax sauce and drink -- which used to cost a little less than $7 -- and almost lost my cool when they told me it was now $9.28 for the exact same thing (regular sized drink). The employee at the window told me that "Corporate"* came in and forced this location to charge more for food. For whatever reason they did, it was stupid because as a regular customer here, I cannot afford to spend damn near $10 on chicken fingers. I can go to Cracker Barrel if I want to pay that for chicken fingers. Bojangles Supreme dinner is less than $7 and Zaxby's is in the same bracket. With a calorie count somehow (ignoring periods) a close second to price, Zaxby's sauce being just tarter sauce add ketchup, and all other non awful sauces being dollars more, this one comes in at least the grossest, skeeviest and unhealthiest restaurant I've been to, if not the worst. Zaxbys always provides great customer service until I visited the Harrison Blvd location drive-thru, the lady on the intercom was trying to rush my order. I was ordering a salad and said no onions and ........ well she started talking over me and would not let me complete my order. Even though Zaxbys is my go to for salads. I was torn between giving this location a 2 star review or a 3 star review because the food is good! Yes, the reviewers are right. It does take a little bit longer than most fast food places to get your food. That didn't even bother me. What bothers me is that it may take forever to get your order taken (inside). The cashiers don't greet you or say thank you when they given you your order. They left something out of my bag and didn't say sorry (the manager), they just threw it in my bag. Also no matter what time of day I go in this Zaxby's wether its going inside or through the drive-thru the wait is always very long and my food comes out cold or room temp. This location has Bad Shift Management. Manger working window doesn't look at order. Then doesn't give you everything you paid for wants to openly ask did you pay for it when you have receipt in hand. If she had done her job at the window customers won't have to waste time and go into to store. The whole idea of using the Drive thru. I know she needs to ask but can be a little more Discreet about how she does it. Are even better do what she expects her staff to do. Can I give less than a star? Consistently the worst service I've ever received from a fast food restaurant. The wait is always ridiculous, even if there's only one other car in line, and the food is almost never fresh. I come maybe once every couple of months now when I used to come once a week. The drive thru workers are usually rude, but today I was greeted with "welcome to zaxby's. Hold on a minute". Not "welcome to zaxby's I'll be right with you" or anything of that regard. I was told to hold on a minute and then not given a total, nor was my order repeated to me at the window so I had to ask if they got it correct. Terrible! Always a different excuse. My family loves Zaxbys and it is very close to our home. I have been at least twelve times and EVERY TIME MY ORDER IS WRONG. Why repeat my order if you do not fill it correctly? Why ask what kind of sauce and put in a different one? Why ask how many tenders if you are going to be short on the number? I went to Zaxby's for lunch and left satisfied and impressed with their service and food. The staff was really friendly and made sure my order was as I wanted. It took less than 5 minutes for the food to come out, and it came out hot and fresh for sure. I ordered the 5 chicken finger plate, and it was a ton of very satisfying fried food, especially for my fried chicken craving. The chicken fingers were freshly fried, had a nicely seasoned coating, and were juicy and moist inside. I love dipping them in the tangy Zax sauce, which does have a tarter taste to it. I had complaints about the chicken and enjoyed it thoroughly. The plate also came with fries that were seasoned well, and toast that was buttery goodness. The cole slaw also gave the meal the bit of refreshment it needed to counter all the saltiness from the fried food. I also had a birthday cake milkshake, which tasted exactly like birthday cake and was a nice sweet treat to enjoy. Overall, I thought as far as fast food goes, Zaxby's delivered on quick service, and fried food that was prepared to order. My only criticism would be that the chicken finger plate was $9 plus tax, which is pricey compared to Bojangles, and that they charge extra for sauce, which seems a little stingy to me. read more

This location is the absolute worst! The customer service is so horrible, they are always rude and like they are bothered, and SLOW is an understatement! It doesn't matter what time of day it is at this location, there is ALWAY a line of people waiting on food to be called. They almost always mess up the order because apparently they can't understand your order the first time. One time at the drive thru waiting on my food as usual, I witnessed a male employee sitting on the counter by the drive thru window on his phone and then when he jumped off the counter back to the floor, he proceeded to stick his free hand down his pants....right in front of the window!
