Cook Out is a vibe. It is not the best food you'll find, but they are fast, they are cheap, they are open late, and they are one of my favorite places to eat in North Carolina. For $10.98, i got a double burger tray, with Cajun fries, a spicy chicken wrap, and a peanut butter fudge milkshake. The fries were a bit soggy, but the Cajun seasoning is nice. The burger had a double patty, and you could taste that it was grilled over flame. And the spicy chicken wrap tasted way better than I expected for the price. The peanut butter fudge milkshake was thick af. I could barely suck it through the straw til it melted a little. I'm definitely coming back next time I'm in North Carolina. read more

I came after the last day of the Kevin Keats camp with two of my buds and one guy (from NC) said had to get a tray and sub for a milkshake. I ordered a burger, chicken quesadilla, fries and subbed my drink for a PB shake ($1.50 extra) Overall the food was fine, nothing crazy nothing insane. The burger was solid but mediocre. Chicken quesadilla tasted like Taco Bell (absolutely not an insult) and the fries were standard. The shake was meh. But holy F get the cookout sauce. Bruh it's amazing. Tasted good with everything I ate. I also ordered a shirt for $3 but they forgot to give it to me.... So subtract 3 bucks from my order It's fine food, great for college students, I'd love to try it again but get some diff food. Maybe try some other sandwiches/sides. So for anyone outside of North Carolina, Cook Out is a drive through staple with many choices. My tip would be look at the menu before you get in the line because once you are in front of the speaker with a dozen cars behind you there is NO TIME to decide. Also if you didn't know Cook Out has 30 different flavors of shakes...yes...30...! For our order we got a couple of Slaw Dogs a hamburger, some fries (which were great) and two pumpkin pie shakes. They're dishing out all the best sides and grill favorites! Burgers, hot dogs, Pulled Pork, fried favorites: Cheese bites, hush puppies, and the best Slaw ! The slaw and burgers are my favorite. Chili and what everyone craves, the shakes. I've tried a shake once and it was more like ice cream. Too thick. Cook Out comes in handy when you have a hangover, are a expecting mother with midnight cravings or when you haven't eaten all day and your blood sugar is dropping like it's hot. It was not that great. The milkshake was thick, which is good, but still lacking in flavor. I don't understand the hype around this place. My fries tasted old, like they'd either been cooked in old grease or had me sitting out entirely too long. I saw no cookies, so I asked where are the cookies, he ask me do I want mitre on top, I did not respond. He brings the two cups back with cookies on top , instead of remaking them. Cook Out is amazing for what it is, which is basically fast food. Their trays are a great deal and I think it is one of the must-dos for people visiting the Triangle (any location is fine). A tray with a burger, quesadilla and fries is the standard recommendation--where else can you get a quesadilla as a SIDE?-but the hot dogs and chicken nuggets are good too. Their burgers are juicy, perfectly fast foodsy in a delicious way. And it's not a patty thinner than a pancake! Be ready to get what you pay for. This is good food and super cheap. For my first time trying Cook Out while on vacation with my hubby I was impressed. Pros: cheap and affordable. The price was great. You can get a large tea a burger (depending on what size your order and with what toppings) and chili cheese fries (you can not skip these) for under about $7.00 (weird I know and I ordered everything on its own I didn't do a tray or whatever the combos are) but anyway super great price point. What a steal! The burger I did the regular size cheddar style no onions and it was delicious. The chili cheese fries were great. Not spicy and not super soggy either they also gave you a fork which was handy. (The fries with our toppings are not my style) The tea was great and tasted fresh. Also my husband ordered the same burger only the bigger size and hush puppies. The bush puppies were amazing!! Cons: Really the only two issues I had was while Placing our order they didn't ring up the chili cheese fries so I had to go reorder them. (They got them out super quick though) Also I went to get a refill only tea and about 5 people walked by the window and made eye contact with me before someone helped me five minute later. All in and all I can totally see myself going here and ordering the same thing with a shake though because treat yourself. Totally worth checking out. The most unfriendly staff I've ever encountered at a fast food restaurant in my life. I have been multiple times and it's not like it was a one time thing. They act like they could care less about getting your order right and the fact that they literally tried to get me to pay $.48 for a sauce packet after I had already paid 8$ for my meal was laughable. The guy in the window couldn't even read my ticket when I repeatedly showed him that it said "honey mustard" on it. He just continued to argue with me the whole time over a freaking honey mustard. I will never go back to this joke of an establishment and I will make a point to tell everyone I come in contact with how they should not waste their time or money here. How could you not love cook out?? It's so good and so cheap. I always get a cheeseburger tray with ketchup, mayo, lettuce, pickles. Then Cajun fries, and either a chicken quesadilla or chicken ranch wrap. Both are great options. I then will get a cheerwine or upgrade to a shake (peanut butter fudge with Oreo). Today, I'm picking on Cook Out at the Western Blvd location. What puzzles me is how can an burger joint consistently get it wrong! 8 out of 10 times when I have gone to Cook Out on Capital or Western, they've managed to get the order wrong. Sadly, it isn't until you get home or back to work that you discover the extra tomato that you purchased is missing, or they added cheese after you specified "no cheese", or you request no onions and the thing is just slathered with them... sigh I have gone on year-long boycotts by refraining to never go back. I have called their corporate office to complain, and they sent me a coupon so I could go back for more punishment. All my friends from the south raved endlessly about how good their food was. I was impressed with the varieties of milkshakes also I might try the peach one next time I'm down here lol. I am never returning to this location again. I was treated with so much disrespect today when the cashier, Andrew, blatantly ignored me telling him I wanted certain toppings on my burger. He was so rude taking my order and anytime he didn't understand me, he said gruffly, "what?!" I got to the window and asked them to read back my order because I didn't believe I was heard when I gave the toppings, and sure enough they had added zero toppings to my burger. Andrew immediately got defensive and spoke very rudely towards me and acted like it was MY problem he didn't listen to me when I was ordering my food, and no apology or anything was given. You can't get a better deal than a Cook Out Tray - a burger, 2 sides, and a drink for $4. Add about $1 and get a milkshake instead. And the milkshakes are customizable - so choose any flavors you want and combine them to your stomach's content (see below). My go-to is the burger with lettuce, grilled onions, ketchup, and Cajun seasoning. All of their sides are good - french fries, onion rings, hush puppies, chicken nuggets - all delicious. In the summer time - do yourself a favor and get the watermelon milk shake. It might sound gross, but it's my favorite milkshake flavor at Cook Out. When they don't have watermelon, I go with either: 1) Peach Cobbler + Blueberry - those Nilla wafers... 2) Banana Triple Berry 3) Oreo Mint (which is like Oreo + Mint Chocolate Chip) The possibilities are endless. Literally, endless. I can't believe there are still combinations out there that I haven't tried. Like... Reeses Cups + Mint Chocolate Chip - I mean, how is that even legal? There aren't many things in this world greater than having mini corndogs or chicken nuggets as SIDE DISHES to your hamburger. If that gets you excited, then Cook Out will deliver an ass-whooping of awesome surprises for you. A billion (slightly exaggerated) milkshake flavors? Fresh pineapple, watermelon, orange sherbert? Umm, yes. The milkshakes are worth coming here by themselves, AND you can get them late into the night. There were a lot of late work sessions that only a Cook Out platter with a shake could satisfy. The prices are absurdly cheap (you can walk away full for 5-6 bucks) and most meals are customizable to your liking. You add the toppings, pick from a menagerie of sides and Boom! Hot off the grill and into your waiting paws. It's beautiful. I suggest making your burgers Cajun with the grilled onions. Slather it with cheese and you have heaven in a bun.
