A staple chain in the in North Carolina from what I've been told and I am completely hooked! Came here for a late lunch and wasn't disappointed by a single thing. I had a plate with a double cheeseburger with everything on it, a chicken quesadilla, onion rings with special sauce, and a cheerwine float. WOW. The burger was really good. For the price I was expecting not the greatest quality but it was cooked extremely well, plenty of flavor, and the onion, pickle, ketchup and mustard just added to the experience. The chicken quesadilla was surprisingly good. Not super authentic or as loaded as more Mexican leaning restaurants, but a great follow up and it felt like something I would cooked for myself in college, really nice. The onion rings with the special sauce were stupendous. Really quality breading and fried perfectly. Paired with that special sauce? Get out of town - SO GOOD! With the addition of the cheerwine float, I was rolled out of the parking lot but it was so tasty and something I definitely can't get up North. Their hush puppies is a must and don't be afraid to show off your creative side when you make your milkshake with as many flavors as you'd like! CookOut has truly bottomed out in the last few years. It was never great food, but one of very few late night options. At least it was hot - and a good value. But now it's no longer a good value at all! Prices have gone up several times & even more frustrating is how the serving sizes have PLUMMETED. Chicken strips are less than half the size they used to be & where in the hell do you even get a 3.5" hotdog to make a 4" corn dog??!!?? I've been to every cook out in the Raleigh area. Driving back from ATL, this was my first stop. Everything is good. Once I got a wrong order (bbq chicken sandwich instead of burger ) YUM. Best accident ever. I got my original order corrected and they let me keep the sandwich. I tried it, loved it , and now I get it every now and then. Thankfully on a normal weekday during the lunch hour of 12-1, I got in & out of here pretty quickly. I always admire Cookout for the two drive-thrus. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich tray with hushpuppies & slaw, along with a Cheerwine. The voice in the speaker had a pleasant voice & repeated my order back to me. I pulled around to the window & she had my drink waiting for me. I paid & immediately my tray was ready. So basically, I was in & out of the parking lot in five minutes. Prices are reasonable & it's pretty easy to get to & out of off Western Blvd. Food was delicious. Hushpuppies were hot & crispy, the chicken was crispy & spicy, the tomato & lettuce were fresh. There is only one problem with this location... the people the work there are so on point that it is always people there but the wait is never long. The crew at this location is amazing. I would say they get the orders right 99.9 percent of the time and if there is a problem it was most likely on the customers part and they just fix it. The food is always fresh because like I said it doesn't matter what time of day or night there is always people eating here. I bet it is a million dollar locating and it looks it to. Nice and clean. The parking lot is small but always clean and never any trash just laying around. They have the 5.25 tray. With a burger and two sides plus a drink. You can't bet that with a stick. Best cheap food ever. You get every cent worth when you spend your money here and the best part is that this location is open all the way till 4 or even 5 am. The service here is the best too. Even when it gets crazy busy and the drive-thru line extends out to western blvd they get the line going out and fast. The best thing to order here are the milkshakes. The milkshake menu is extensive and you can mix a bunch of flavors together and it will still the same price! Oh and the shakes are thicc. Don't bother sipping it with the straw. Eat it with the spoon. My other favorites are the chicken quesadilla, hushpuppies, and the cajun fries. There's is a lot of things to try on the menu and it can be hard to choose but just get the cookout try. With one main item and 2 sides with a drink. When I was in North Carolina, I stopped at this Cook Out. I'm sure glad I did. I ordered a cheeseburger, fries, chicken nuggets, and onion rings. The burger was good, it was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The fries were solid, towers crispy and were seasoned nicely. The onion rings were great. They were crispy, scrumptious, and the onions were fresh. The chicken nuggets were solid as well. The nuggets were crunchy and juicy. It was extremely cheap, the whole meal was about $10. Cook Out has always intrigued me, mostly because of the massive amounts of smoke and long lines of cars. I don't normally eat fast food, so it took me a while to finally eat here. As a first timer, I decided to actually park and walk up to the window so I could study the menu. I've also read from other Yelpers that they tend to get orders wrong quite a bit. After finding the "combo" section at the bottom of the menu (they should really move it to the top!), I ordered a combo with a burger ("cook out style"), fries, hush puppies, and a shake. It was packaged well in a foam take-out container (ugh, horrible for the environment). The burger was great--nice and messy with chili, slaw, mustard and onions. The fries were fine, but the hush puppies were a little too dry. The shake was like a Wendy's frosty but better and 10x as thick. I'm not even sure why they bothered to give me both a spoon and a straw. The straw was useless against that beast. For a guy with a huge appetite, the combo was all I needed. It'd be like an episode of Man v. Food if I got the "huge" (1/2 lb.) burger, two sides and a shake. Cook Out is definitely a step up from the bigger chains since they cater to my Carolinan needs and their prices seem to be a bit lower. I won't be back for a while probably, but it isn't because of the service or the taste of the food. I adore cookout. I never thought that I would ever find a fast food joint that I liked better than chic-fil-a until now. I love it so much. My bf always raved about cookout but I had no idea it was that damn delicious. Driving through North Carolina over the weekend I spotted one and I had to stop in. I ordered a 1/8 cheeseburger and a combo which came with a drink, chicken wrap, and a bbq sandwich with hot sauce and coleslaw on it and we chose onion rings as a side. I ate the cheeseburger first and it was the best I have ever had. It reminded me of childhood bbqs which were so fun. I finished it in about 2 seconds. I cringed when my bf asked for a bite. The bbq sandwich was perfection and it reminded me of why I could never give up pork for anything in the world. The combo and extra sandwich came up to $6 dollars, a complete steal for the quality. The next time I'm in the area I am going to try the hot dog and milkshake. I hate road trips but am looking forward to the next one just so i can get my cookout fix. read more

I was SO tired after an epic bar crawl last night that I insisted on sleeping on the pull-out couch. We'd done a load of laundry that day and hadn't re-made our bed yet; true, we ended up having to put sheets on the pull-out -- but, well, it all seemed to make sense at the time! Prior to getting home, I begged Phil to stop at Cook Out for latenight eats. When we pulled in around 3, there was a freaking TRAFFIC DIRECTOR with a bright orange vest and a glow cone thingy pointing cars into two separate lanes. You know you've reached success as a drive-thru joint if you have to hire a traffic director... As you can imagine, it was quite popular and busy, and as I mentioned earlier I was exhausted to the point of making nonsensical decisions. So in the 10 minutes it took to order, I actually fell asleep. Amazing: I actually remembered/managed to check in on the Yelp app before passing out. Luckily, Phil ordered something for me! I ate a cheeseburger and about 3/4 of his spicy chicken sandwich (what?! I :said: I was hungry!) and sucked down some water (no milkshake, boo). The burger -- even in my drunken state -- only tasted okay; but man, that chicken sandwich was like manna from heaven. Probably not as satisfying at 3 in the afternoon vs 3 in the morning. There aren't many things in this world greater than having mini corndogs or chicken nuggets as SIDE DISHES to your hamburger. If that gets you excited, then Cook Out will deliver an ass-whooping of awesome surprises for you. A billion (slightly exaggerated) milkshake flavors? Fresh pineapple, watermelon, orange sherbert? Umm, yes. The milkshakes are worth coming here by themselves, AND you can get them late into the night. There were a lot of late work sessions that only a Cook Out platter with a shake could satisfy. The prices are absurdly cheap (you can walk away full for 5-6 bucks) and most meals are customizable to your liking. You add the toppings, pick from a menagerie of sides and Boom! Hot off the grill and into your waiting paws. It's beautiful. I suggest making your burgers Cajun with the grilled onions. Slather it with cheese and you have heaven in a bun. The locations themselves are simple affairs, with walk-up counters and drive-through (2 lanes for faster service). But they allow the food to speak for itself. The burgers are simple: grilled beef on a bun. You can get it in different sizes (up to 1/2 lb) and with different combinations (try the cheddar: cheddar cheese, bacon, and grilled onions). The burger is cooked perfectly, hot and still juicy, dripping with yumminess. There are other options for non-beef eaters; chicken strips, chicken burgers, and BBQ. But don't stop there. Add on a side, such as fries, hush puppies, or onion rings. And you cannot miss one of their shakes. Nearly 40 flavors of shakes, served cold and dense as a brick, almost like a gelato rather than a milk shake. I had the oreo, a classic, and it was packed full of cookies and delicious ice cream. The folks there know how good they are; they make sure to serve each one with a spoon. The prices are reasonable, even on the cheap side. Burgers are less than $3, and shakes are about $2. After posting my previous review, I have been abused relentlessly by friends and coworkers. How dare any Southerner rate Cook Out 2 stars? After careful consideration, I'm inclined to reevaluate. The Cook Out tray still remains one of the best values in fast food. Get an entree, 2 sides, and a drink for typical fast food prices. Entrees include burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, and pulled pork, also known as barbecue 'round these parts. Sides range from the typical fries, onion rings, and hush puppies to the incredible, such as corn dogs, chicken wraps, and quesadillas. Upgrade to one of the better milkshakes out there for only $1 more. Plus, this is Raleigh. Where are you actually going to go to feed the beast when it's 3 AM? All that said, I can't do more than restore my original 3 stars. Not for this Cook Out. They have some of the worst fast food staff that I've ever encountered. Sometimes, if they mess up, it's not that big of a deal. One time I ordered a chicken wrap as my side and received hush puppies instead. Somebody is moron, but it still was a good meal. Other times, I've been shorted a chicken tender, given a burnt burger, and all sorts of other not-delicious mistakes. No fast food worker actually makes enough money to care, but the Hardees at Avent Ferry and Gorman is an example of actual good service. 3 stars and you can't make me go any higher. Cook Out is a good restaurant. This Cook Out is an okay restaurant. Oh and, beware of phantom upcharges. They once again added cheese to my burger without me requesting it. read more

I have been hearing for months to go to Cook Out and get a milkshake. I've read reviews and hear about the vast variety of flavors they offer for shakes, and hadn't had time to get there until recently. I had to work an event in Pullen Park ALL day in the sweltering heat, soI decided to treat myself. I have to admit, it was a REALLY good milkshake. I got the strawberry cheesecake milkshake and it was absolutely fantastic. Made with vanilla ice cream there was strawberry and pieces of cheesecake mixed in. It took me like five minutes to decide between that and the Oreo mint, which also sounds fantastic, so I guess I will be making a second trip back soon. I paired my milkshake with an order of cajun fries (healthy I know) and it was the perfect combination. The fries were really good, with just the right amount of seasoning. What I really liked about Cook Out was that they are very efficient. They have a drive thru that has two rows, so cars can order simultaneously, and it gets people through much faster. For fast food it was really great service. I'll be back, gonna make my way through that long line of milk shakes eventually, and I'd really like to try a burger sometime! read more

I have been to several cook outs and really wanted to be fair. This location has good speed on serving food but the reason I did not give higher stars is because while speed may be important - so should the quality of food. The food quality at this location is just average. Yes, the food typically is served hot but is just rushed thru lacking measured condiments. Sometimes you get more mustard than ketchup or the cheese is missing. Just another conveyor belt of food. Granted, I like Cook Out but this one needs to focus more on the food than just getting it out of the window. The biggest plus is the milk shakes with such a huge selection. However skimpy on the ingredients added in the milk shakes and ensuring they are mixed well. Sometimes its just hit or miss. On a positive note the staff is very friendly. Multiple drive thrus are an added plus but sometimes the place is a nightmare for parking or getting in and out. Beggars and aggressive panhandlers are a typical element around the place which management does very little to do anything about. However if there are lots of college students around seems to give the place a safer feeling. Going at 2AM is the best time on weekends. The "just left the bar" crowd is pure entertainment to watch and listen to. read more

The staff are not polite and 3 times in a row my order was completely wrong. I didn't find out my order was wrong until I got home or work and it was too late to go back. I let the first two times go bc I didn't check my order before I left (kind of hard to do when there's a huge line and nowhere to park the car while looking) but after the third time I went the next day and told them about all three times. Only one out of about 4 people I spoke to about this was somewhat friendly. On top of that, I know about 4/5 people who have gotten very very sick after eating there. Step it up cookout!! We need you guys!! You're the only "good thing" open after midnight!! Yes, I still go there bc it's the only thing open drive through when I get off work, but they need to get better at being friendly and getting orders correct!! Wow, talk about a great late night burger. And the customizing is really something -- small, medium, large, huge, with all sorts of different styles of toppings. Think of a home cooked burger cooked just right and juicy with a full set of toppings available. Be sure to order the cook-out style or the steak style (with A-1, onions, etc.). Crisp fries, and many choices on the very thick milkshakes, like Oreo or blueberry style. This Cook Out gets packed with the NC State crowd on late Fri/Sat. The interesting dual-drive-thru line leads to some interesting people watching in nearby cars, and seems like there's always a group of two foolhardy enough to face the cold in the walk-up window. read more

The only Cookout I've been to is the one on Western Blvd. I work late, so my early morning (late night) cravings come every once and a while and this is so much more convenient than driving to Harris Teeter to purchase groceries... The milkshakes are DELICIOUS, as are the onion rings and, for the price, the hush puppies were, surprisingly, delectable! The only thing you should be aware of is the typical, drunken college idiot who ventures here on his/her drunken escapade...be alert when you're pulling in b/c the entrance is the exit and some of them don't realize this when turning out...and the entrance to the one on Western is, initially, kinda hard to spot, so when you're going for the first time, make sure you pay close attention to where it is. There is not much new to say about Cook-Out but I feel something should be said to one of my favorite go-to's when we lived in North Carolina. I tried to taste very shake on their menu but fell short on my quest, which is probably better for my body. Every flavor I tried was good, though. The fast food is good, fast, hot, and tasty. While it is not healthy or good for you, it is a good cheap treat. Cook-Out is also good drunk food, and they are open late with friendly, understanding, and accommodating staff that understand drunk-speakese. I regret not getting a shirt, not that I needed one. As I write this, I wish there was a cook-out nearby to get a fix. So, quit reading this and head out there and try something off their menu. read more
