We have gotten Char Grill delivered before but didn't have a chance till today to go inside. Char grill has that classic 1950/1960 ambiance with the style of the decor and music. Even the employees uniform reminds me of the vintage style from that time period! There were many places to sit but we decided to take it to go since we were on a time crunch. This location does not have a drive thru so you do need to park and pick up inside. This is the first burger place I have been to where you fill out your order and drop it into the slit for the kitchen crew, very unique! They cooked our food fresh and quickly, I wasn't able to capture pictures of our food in the dark car but it was really good! The fries were the best part of the meal in my opinion. They were piping hot and fresh and the bag almost didn't make it home. I ordered the junior hamburger and you pick your toppings on a check sheet with a pencil. The food is then prepared and your name is called when ready. The burgers are oblong and fit onto a hot dog shaped sesame bun. I would add ketchup to give it the salty flavor and then it is delicious. Char grill is an NC experience and the service is excellent. I love the entire experience. You start with the order pad process and go onto receive a great burger and fries. The BLT is good as well. Well the taste of the hamburgers are just amazing with a taste that could have been from a charcoal Webber grill. The service is unique and a bit of fun. The staff are consistently polite and positive. The environment is consistent with a 50s / 60s establishment. It is a unique look into the past. Generally fries don't last an hour but we had a rather unexpected situation that rendered the test on them! The (half) steak hamburger with fries was devoured in no time by the adult involved in this treat-delivering business for the day. After being in NC since 2013, I finally tried CharGrill recently. This location is located just down from a Fresh Market, right on Cary Parkway, so there is plenty of parking. It has seating inside and out, but I chose to eat inside due to the weather. You go in and have to write on a piece of paper what you want and give it to the guy through the window...the guy who didnt speak, didnt smile, didnt offer any suggestions or help....just had to figure it out on my own. I ordered a burger, fries and shake. It was way more expensive than I expected, especially the burger. It was a good sized burger and was cooked fresh and I received it as ordered on my paper, lol. There was a lot of fries dumped in the bag and they were hot...had to wait for them to be cooked but that's ok, I am not a big fry person, so it helps if they are hot. Both were ok...nothing to brag about. The shake was a disappointment, didnt even finish it. Would not order again for sure. The place looked like it needed a real good cleaning and some of the tables were dirty, despite no one else being in the place. When called out on this they said 'yeah the prices are correct in the system, they changed the other week but we haven't pulled the sign down to update'. They refuse to honor posted prices. This Char-Grill location used to be one of our favorite burger places in Cary, for years! Oh boy, they have really gone downhill. It's very sad! I assume it's pandemic related, but there's really no excuse for how dirty and fly-ridden the place was on a recent visit. Oh my gosh, the inside had DOZENS of flies everywhere, and the floor (no exaggeration) had PUDDLES of water all over. At first when I noticed the lake under our table after we sat down, I thought maybe they had a roof or window leak.. But as I looked around I saw puddles under ALL the tables. It became clear that some incompetent person had mopped the floor very sloppily and never wrung out the mop. I can't imagine what else it would be. And the flies... I couldn't get over how many were inside buzzing around and on the windows (made me wonder if they were in the kitchen too), so between that and the puddles on the floor, we ate our burger outside in the 100 degree heat. It was preferable. Now, the burgers. What the heck has happened? They are smashed beyond recognition. I went back one more time after the flies & puddles experience, and BOTH times the burger buns were smashed so badly that it looked like the cook had stomped on them with his shoe. How can a burger look that bad, freshly cooked? Just utter carelessness. We won't be back for a long time. Between the smashed burgers and the unsanitary dining room, this place really needs to get its act together. read more

Now under management of the original Char-grill!I've been eating at chargrill since I was a young lad and there's a reason why: these burgers and dogs are amazing! This location has indoor seating as well as a pretty large patio for eating in nice weather. Just added millshake flavors or cookies n cream, strawberry, banana, and chocolate chip. Chargrill is a great choice when you just want something simple,quick,and delicious. I love how you can customize your order. I have Celiac so I usually order my burgers without the bun,but they will gladly add extra lettuce,tomatoes,and pickles,and slaw,when I clearly make a note on my order sheet. I am crazy about their fries! They are usually hot and crispy! At the Cary location,you can sit indoors,or out. I also like the fact that they have boardgames for kids and adults alike. I haven't reviewed Chargrill yet? The burgers are great especially the steak burger and steak burger jr and they have perfect fries, although I wish they kept their chili fries on the menu. It can be a little confusing ordering at first since you don't talk with an actual person. You have to fill out an order slip and slide it in a slot in the window. One draw back to this is if you want to order more than one of the same type of burgers but with different toppings you'll need to use multiple tickets. I always add numbers like "1/3, 2/3, 3/3" to the name to make it clear it's one ticket. Come on wednesdays charburgers, fries, small drink, and hot dogs are all $1.75 each. You should *not* go if you are expecting a fancy-schmancy gourmet burger with quinoa, organic herbs, and cheese from free-range guinea pigs. If you've gone to a steak house and considered ordering the fish of the day, you're going to have a bad time. If you're concerned that vinyl and formica dinette booths might upset your image, keep moving, Cupcake. This is Char Grill, which has been doing its eponymous flame-grilled style in the Triangle since 1959 (www.chargrillusa.com) and has since expanded to 10 locations. Through the years, Char Grill has changed management hands a few times but it appears to stick true to its roots. The headliner is their burgers, but they also have hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, BBQ sandwich, BLT, grilled cheese, and salads. The sides are diner classics - fries, fountain drinks, apple turnovers, and milkshakes made with a vintage shake machine. The burgers are slightly thinner than other places, which means that you're going to get a well-done burger. These burgers are less greasy, no blood/juice, and a nice umami-filled beef char that will have the caveperson in you grunting with delight. The burger sizes are half-pound, quarter pound, and standard (but indeterminate weight). I didn't have a scale on me, but it appeared that a sizeable amount of the pre-cook weight is rendered out via flame cooking - so don't be intimidated by a half-pounder. It is not huge. The thinner patty means quicker cooking time, but this is still not fast food. You're going to wait 10 plus minutes or so depending on crowds. One can order online at their four Raleigh locations, but not the Cary location - but you can call 919 461 7112. If you order in person, you fill out a slip, which you then feed through a slot and pay when you pick up your greasy white bag of goodies. The choices of toppings is limited to mayo, yellow mustard, ketchup, chopped yellow onions, shredded iceberg lettuce, ripe red tomato, and chilli; bacon, cheese, and slaw are extra. No bread is an option, if that's your thing. The bun is a classic sesame seed topped white-bread bun. But as is typical with the classic whitebread bun, it gets steamed down a bit smooshy if you let it sit. So, either unwrap your burger quickly or else don't let it bother you. The décor is strictly 1950 diner, with classic rock playing and lots of synthetic surfaces. The place looks well loved/worn from countless people using it. I came early - at 1130am, an hour after its opening time. It was sparkling clean, smelled pleasantly of cleaning products, and was nary a smudge anywhere. I read in other reviews that the place was filthy - which I would imagine is possible if it gets busy since the kitchen is sealed off from the front-of-house (not easy for staff to see/attend). It is hard to get a complete read on staff from a single visit, but from what I could see, some were focused on their tasks, while others were average kids - not unlike a younger me or my own kid - without a lot of fire in their bellies trying to get things done. Prices were on the value-side and the Wednesday specials make the place downright cheap. It's not the best burger I ever had, but I don't think that is the goal of the place. I think it is about delivering exceptional value - a good flame-broiled burger with good sides at a price that delights even if it's not Wednesday. Lunch spot today after reading their good reviews, my mouth started to wster Their was no line at 1:00 on a Tuesday, and it smelled great:) It has a cool diner appearance with a walk up and order ticket you have to fill out. I liked that we had time to look at the menu and my three kids enjoyed filling out their own tickets. The veggie burger was really tasty, as well as the fries!
