tried the new smoky classic bbq burger and the carolina bbq burger with fried pickles. let me say that they did a phenomenal job on the fried pickles. one of my favorite fried pickles to date! both burgers were good but the carolina had a slight heat to it that i wasn't expecting and didn't care for. the fries were crispier than normal and were probably the best that i've had from any shake shack. we ordered at the kiosk and it seems there are some redundant and extra steps in the ordering process... but it was pretty simple. as we were dining in, the food was brought to our table. plenty of seats to choose from both inside and outside on their covered patio. i saw some reviews saying the music was way too loud but it was fairly subtle to me and not overwhelming. read more

I haven't been here in a while and heard about the chicken sandwich so decided to give it a try on a Sunday afternoon. Got the regular chicken sandwich and a sunset lemonade. Both were very good and I would get both again. The piece of chicken was bigger than the bun and very good. I like the condiment and shredded lettuce and pickles on it. Really makes a nice sandwich. The service was good both at the register and the young man who brought the food. The place was clean and the drink station was clean and well maintained. That's where the napkins and ketchup are too. Drinks are self serve except for tea....you have to go up and ask for it. The music is very loud and I imagine with a lot of people in the room it would be hard to hear anyone at your table. They have outdoor seating but it was not a good day for it. The burger, fries, and shake were all really good, if expensive. One major issue: they served me rotten avocado on the burger. It was black+brown all the way through. I went to the counter and told them the avocado was bad and asked if there was any possibility that I could get replacement avocado. The employee smiled and said "oh, we don't have avocado right now." Then laughed as if to indicate that I must understand. That was all. No "hey, sorry for putting this rotten stuff on your food." I live in the North Raleigh area, but was in the Cary area one evening and decided to try it out. It's a bit too far away from me to go on a regular basis so I was glad to get the opportunity. They are located at Waverly Place which has a variety of shops and restaurants so parking wasn't an issue. I could see it possibly being an issue during dinner or lunch rush or over the weekends, but there is plenty of parking available. It is clean and organized. The food is good, but way too overpriced for what you get. The primary reason for how overpriced it was is because everything is A-La-Carte. I personally don't like restaurants that serve food this way unless the prices are much more reasonable. I ordered a Single Smokeshack with a lettuce bun ($7.29) and an order of fries ($3.09). My friend ordered a Single Cheeseburger with a regular bun ($5.79) and cheese fries ($4.09). We both ordered waters to drink and our total came out to be about $22. You can go other places and get the same quality with a bit larger portion for less. This is not to say the food wasn't good, but it definitely wasn't worth the price. I don't mind paying for good quality and portions, but this didn't match up to the price at all. I did, however, appreciate the option to customize my order. The burgers were juicy without being overly greasy, the flavors were delicious, and there wasn't too much or too little of any of the toppings.
