My son and I stopped in Al's today for lunch. He ordered a cookies and cream milk shake and they were really nice and made a kids size for him. The waiter was really nice and attentive and brought everything to our table. He even noticed I didn't have a drink and offered me a cup for water. I ordered the Mookie burger on gluten free bun and this is my favorite by far. The caramelized onions compliment the cheese and sauce. They take extra precautions for the gluten free burger. I tried the sirarcha aioli sauce with the French fries and it is great for a spicy addition. I can't wait to try more of the sauces. The rosemary french fries came out fresh and hot. The rosemary is really a nice addition to the fries. This is a very casual dining experience with booths and tables. They have outdoor seating but we ate inside. Ordered takeout today. The Classic burgers and the Mookie burger were awesome. As were the Sweet Potato and Potato fries. However, it was just too much food. So next time only one order of fries. Order was ready when they said it would be even though it was noon and they were busy. Staff were pleasant, polite, and respectful. We love the on in chapel hill! This one is nothing like it. At all. Almost every order was wrong, food was drenched in oil and I mean DRENCHED. I ordered a burger salad medium rare, came out well done dripping in oil. They re did it and it was inedible. I'm pretty sure they haven't been trained on cooking bc everything was wildly over or under done with nothing in between. We ordered grilled cheese with American Cheese only. Came out twice wrong. First with cheddar and not melted, I mean literally the inside had raw cheese in it. The second one I specifically said over and over it needed to be AMERICAN cheese only. Super simple order. Already having to pay for a second meal when the first was inedible was irritating but fine bc it wasn't specified (the American cheese, the cooking of the food was implied-I thought). After paying for a second and specified it was the not brought out to us but rather in a brown bag at the back of the restaurant as we ate at the same table in front we had been at the whole time and not how any of the other food came out. We finally find it after waiting a while for it and take it out and it's once again wrong. Cheddar in the middle and it wet on one side bc it had been in the bad in its own oil for a few minutes. The girl who took our order was very lovely and clearly trying her hardest. The whole thing was a miss tho. We left with half of our family hungry and the other half with stomach aches. They shouldn't have opened until ready. We were massive fans of the other one in Chapel hill so this is a bummer. read more

I had been hearing great things about this burger spot so I had to pull up and see what the hype was. The staff was nice and friendly. Everyone greeted you. It was very clean and has inside and outside seating. There was an influx of customers but never a long wait. Now on to the food. I got the Mookie Burger with crinkle cut fries. I am a French fry girlie...loved the fries with the garlic aioli. The burger was cooked perfectly, the bread was nice and soft...Great burger. Very disappointed with our experience. Our order was not made correctly -- my husband asked for Swiss cheese on his burger but received cheddar instead, and my burger was undercooked. Very friendly cashier and she knew what she was doing. You order first and then sit or get it to go. They had some music and two of the cooks were dancing while they were working. I love that! I ordered a turkey burger on salad. They use a garlic aoli sauce they say but barely on it. The problem is the small paper carton it comes in. There is limited space to cut the turkey and became a little messy. I would recommend a larger plate for those staying if they get the salad. My husband got a classic. He figured he'd try the Al's sauce on the side. He said it was ok. He asked for medium and it was too well done. Good fixings on it though. I got sweet potato fries. They were awesome. Just the right amount of crunchy. Everything is à la carte. They have cherry coke as a goi rain group and that was a little different. It cost $30 for the two of us. So happy to finally have a great burger spot on this side of Apex! Al's Burger Shack is located right next to Harris Teeter in Sweetwater, and there's plenty of parking, which is always a plus. You order at the counter and then sit down to wait for your food. The burgers are thick, juicy, and absolutely delicious cooked perfectly and full of flavor (you can customize the temperature of your burger when you order). I had the Mookie with lettuce and red onion, and it was fantastic. The bacon cheeseburger called Sean's was tasty and the bacon was crisp. The garlic aioli was my favorite sauce, but the sriracha dipping sauce was also a hit. Our kids loved the tater tots, and the regular fries were large and perfectly crunchy. The sweet potato fries had great flavor, though they were on the thinner side. Overall, great food, friendly service, and a super convenient location. We'll definitely be back! read more

I've been waiting for the Apex location to open and it did not disappoint. I personally thought it was just as great as the Chapel Hill locations. Even though it was clearly busy, the staff were kind enough to bring our food out, which I really appreciated (not sure if that's the usual setup because they have a pick up station). The restaurant itself isn't very large but we had no trouble finding seating. This is easily one of my favorite burger spots in the area and I'll definitely be back. read more

I read somewhere that Al's has some of the best burgers in North Carolina and Al's did not disappoint. Stopped by here heading back home and ordered Sean's bacon cheeseburger no tomato and tater tots. The staff was super friendly. I stopped in at their clean restroom and used the last of the toilet paper. When I let a staff member know, they immediately went in to replace the roll. The food took awhile but the gentlemen who gave it to me apologized for the wait. I like when a restaurant acknowledges they noticed you waiting. The burger was amazing! The only complaint was that it had ketchup on it instead of mayo, but I like ketchup, so it wasn't a big deal. The tots came out hot and crispy! I wish I ate in so I could have tried one of their sauces! Definitely a wonderful experience and I will be back! One thing to note, burgers are cooked to order so if you don't give them a temp, they come out medium (which is okay by me but may not be by you)! read more

I'm a fan of a good burger and will always go out of the way for one. Al's just opened recently son of course we have to go check it out. It's super casual...similar to Five Guys in their set up. The wait was long & seating was very limited. There are some outdoor seating as well on the patio. They only had 1 register & a narrow aisle to funnel all those waiting to order. Service was a bit scattered. They need a better system of identifying who ordered what when bringing out the food like maybe numbers for the customers to place on the tables. Saw servers going around several times trying to locate the customers. Food was just ok for me. Burgers were good but there wasn't anything that made them stand out to me as a great burger. IMHO, it was also a bit pricey especially for the standard order of frozen fries & tots. With fries and drinks, it's easily $20 per person. The flow to exit was also awkward. There's only 1 door in the front & one on the patio side. The trash/ tray return was in one corner & you had to then go around tables to get to an exit door. Another thing that disturbed me having a can of stainless steel cleaner right on top of the beer fridge & right next to food prep. This is clearly a health violation. read more

Had a hankering for a burger and so did my friend, so we decided to meet up somewhere to get a burger. I've tried other burger places that are supposed to be fabulous and have been very disappointed. This place had good reviews and the pictures looked good, so I thought hey let's give this place a try! Pulled into a strip mall area that was nice and clean and didn't feel like I was going to get robbed, so that was a good first start! It was a little burger joint on the corner that had patio seating as well as inside seating. You go in and everything's a la carte, so you pick out your type of burger,in which they also had a burger of the month. They then had side options to choose from as any typical burger place would and they were shareable size. I ended up getting the mushrooms swiss burger and added on a side of that bacon Jam sauce. The upcharge for the jam was a dollar which I think is a bit much just for him to have to smeared on your burger but I guess that is what it is. I do appreciate that if you add on lettuce tomato or onion to your sandwich there is no charge for that. For my burger in the jam and came out to about 12 something. My friend got the classic burger and we shared a side of tots. Her burger and tots came out to think close to 19? She also ordered Ranch for her tots, so I don't know if they charged a dollar for that . The burgers we both agreed were very juicy and will be back again. The areas were clean and I constantly saw employees coming out to keep everything looking good in an order. All of the employees were very friendly. Tried this place for the first time yesterday. The burger was actually very good. It has a different feel and taste than other burger places around, like a really good burger you'd cook at your house. The fries are decent but not fantastic but you do get a lot of them. The lady that took the order was efficient but by no means friendly which doesn't bode well since the place just opened and that's when people are typically the most friendly. It's pretty pricy but really everything is now when you go get food. We will likely make it part of the rotation because it's so close to the house but wouldn't go out of our way for it. read more

We have been anticipating this locations opening for a while. Now it's finally open and we went to try it today and left disappointed. While the staff was nice and the prices were ok, all of the food completely lacked any seasoning. I had the bobo burger with tater tots and my wife had the cheeseburger. Both lacked any seasoning and were very bland. Also they gave you a side of one of their sauces with the meal and it was barely a 1/4 full and they charge for any sauces after that one. Not great. Long wait during opening week(my fault). The food wasn't great. Thick burger that was cooked medium. Not medium well. It was flavorless. I said at the time that Culver's makes a better burger and it's true. Fries were average crinkle fries. One of us got the hot dogs. They said it was just ok. I don't see us going back anytime soon. One trip three strikes. Burger was good, but nothing special about it. 1. No high chairs for babies 2. Soda was flat, asked them to fix it and nobody got back with us. So ended up not really drinking it. 3. Asked for no mayo (since allergic) but they put mayo on the bun and then scraped it off? Very sloppy so it was still all over. The food here is really good, I got a kids meal because I don't like huge burgers. It was the perfect sizing for me. The service was fast and friendly. It was a busy day as it was Saturday and also Valentine's Day, but the restaurant was still really clean. I definitely will come back and will tell people about this place. read more

We have been excitedly waiting for Al's to open since we live right down the street. Not the best first impression. Ordering was fairly quick, the cashier was efficient. We had 3 burgers, 2 fries and 2 drinks. $50. Stupid expensive IMO. We waited roughly half an hour for our food. When it was delivered, the first thing I noticed was that they got my "no onion" request right. Great! But I ordered my burger medium and it was more on the rare side. And it was cold. And my son's burger was cold. And the fries were, you guessed it, cold. The rosemary on the fries was a nice touch and the garlic aioli was good. The burger was nothing special but even cold, it was tasty enough. I had the classic with the Al's sauce which I couldn't really distinguish a flavor for. I think once they lock things down and get a better rhythm going, it will be decent. There's a lack of food choices out here on west 64 so anything is welcome but we won't go back until they have a chance to get consistent. It's too expensive for mediocre, cold food. read more

Been to this location before and flavor was average for burger and fries and fries had the salt/rosemary moisture on them previous visit. BUT this visit was different with both regular and sweet potato fries covered in sugar. Reported it to the restaurant and was immediately told "we don't have sugar here." They demanded we say it was salt but it was definitely sugar. They tried to say the rosemary is part of the reason it tasted like sugar. No, rosemary grows in my garden and it's a piney flavor, not even close to sugar. No refund provided on both orders of fries. They made us feel like we were not wanted there and how dare we tell them the food had something wrong with it. EPIC FAIL! You try to be nice to help them out and they treat you like dirt. read more

Absolutely amazing burgers! The beef is really beefy, cooked to perfection...I ordered mine medium. I got Sean's bacon cheeseburger and it is so good! I also got the tater tots with Al's sauce for dipping and they are yummy too! The Al's sauce is tastes great and is like comeback sauce for those who are familiar with that.
