I'd driven by many times before but never stopped in until I had some time in apex in between delivery routes. It feels like an old school filling station with the gas can lights and the cars on the wall. I took a seat at the bar, I probably was the first customer on the Wednesday. They have around two dozen beers on draft. The bartender let me try a pineapple habanero beer, though the heat was a lot stronger than the sweet. I ordered the triple All American burger with three 1/4 pound patties, cheese, comeback sauce, shredded lettuce, tomato, pickle, and I added grilled onion instead of diced onion. It came on a potato roll, always a good choice. The flavor of the burger was really good, and the burger was super messy. It's one of those that you don't dare put down because it's hard to pick back up again. Really good, maybe I'd add jalapeños next time. For my side, I went with cole slaw. It was creamy, but thankfully,not overly thick and heavy. Maybe a touch more vinegar would have helped balance it out. The Arnold Palmer was served in a plastic cup, a little unusual. The bartender did a great job keeping my beverage cups from running on empty. I would return to try a different beer and go for a burger again or even one of their chicken sandwiches. They serve typical bar food not too much surprise there. I tried the chicken tenders and chicken sandwich with fries - not bad but not the best. We went for the dueling piano event they host out in the outdoor area and that was the highlight of the experience. Would 100% come back just for that. Nostalgic songs played in the musicians' unique arrangement. Downside was the indoor and outdoor area were connected so lots of flies were circling around but that's the price you gotta pay for some good music I guess. read more

The menu offers a solid variety of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers, along with a dedicated kids' menu. We ordered the chicken sandwich, Caesar salad, and traditional wings, with sides of tater tots and fries. The chicken sandwich was especially memorable--perfectly crispy with a slightly sweet flavor, tucked into a soft bun. The salad and wings were fresh and flavorful, and it's a bonus that you can turn any salad into a wrap. Cocktails were just okay, but that's understandable since Tap Station is more of a beer-focused spot. My husband really enjoyed sampling their IPAs! Service was quick and friendly, especially impressive given how busy the place was. All in all, Tap Station is a fantastic hangout for groups, families, kids, and even pets. There are plenty of seating options both inside and outside which is lovely when the weather is nice. They also have events like trivia. First time experience for me at Tap Station, eating on the balcony with a view out over cars driving by and a well-let covered patio open beneath. The automotive decor honors the site's former use (prior to becoming a bar, brewery, and restaurant), and the overall vibe is relaxed and designed for connection. Our waitstaff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, quick in delivering our food and drinks and never leaving us feeling pressured. I'd ordered their chicken Cobb salad, which was delicious and sizable, and had noticed a particular, unique crunch to it (almost reminiscent to me of crispy bits of falafel). Our waiter showed up almost magically, sharing that the crunch is actually roasted, dried grain leftover post-brewing downstairs, lending the salad flavor and texture I'd not encountered elsewhere. I'd ordered that again with hesitation. Also, y'all, the tots. And by 'tots,' I ABSOLUTELY mean the massive portion of perfectly crispy tater tots slathered in a creamy spicy sauce, green onion, and toasted tuxedo sesame seeds. I absolutely love this place!! I love the concept of turning an old auto garage into an amazing bar/restaurant. I absolutely love that they've stuck with the theme. I've eaten at the Tap Station twice. Both times we sat at the downstairs bar and Nate was the bartender. Nate is friendly and always super nice to my Mom as she asks him a million questions. Their cocktails are good and they usually have a pretty great list of beers on tap. My favorite cocktail there is the Pain Killer. Last night I told my husband that I felt like I was drinking a glass of vacation! I did not even know that the section of the drink menu I ordered from was called Vacations. Hahaha! Every food item I've had there (we like to share with anyone we are there with so I have tasted many of their menu items) has been delicious. My personal favorite is the chicken egg rolls on the appetizer menu. The pimento cheese burger is really good too. I wish this place was closer to my house! We would definitely be regulars there. We came through town on a Friday afternoon around 1:30 and when we drove past Tap Station, we decided it looked so cute we just had to try it. There is a sign that tells you to grab a drink at the bar and then grab a table. So we headed upstairs to the bar and after waiting forever finally were served. We then took a table on the patio and waited again for a long time for a waitress to bring us waters and menus. We finished our beers and watched the waitress flirt with the bartender and never come back to take our order so we left and went somewhere else to eat. Tap Station is a cute, converted auto shop in downtown Apex. The interior is rustic and retro, with lots of reminders of the building's past, with a 70s soundtrack to match. The menu is a bit retro, too, with burgers, dogs, grilled cheese and classic appetizers and sides. A friend and I visited for lunch on a weekday and very much enjoyed it. We both ordered the All-American burger--hers with the comeback sauce and tater tots, and mine plain with fries. Our burgers were well cooked, tasty and not too big, but not too small. I'm not a "sauce girl," but my friend enjoyed the house comeback sauce and said it worked well with her burger. We didn't order drinks, but they are a brewery, with local offerings. Service was friendly and efficient. It wasn't crowded during our visit, but I drive by often, and the small parking lot can be packed, especially on weekends. Luckily, the GoApex Route 1 bus has two stops nearby, so for people (like me!) who live near the line, this might be your best bet. read more

This second visit I visited on a Friday night at 5:30 with a group of 7 adults, 1 toddler and 1 infant. The place was jam packed. We got a table right away although parking was limited. We parked behind the bank up the street and we didn't get towed. This time we were seated on the top floor. The ambiance is still really cool. Our table was the bed of a truck. That was fun. I had the same food as I did on my first visit-the southern burger and the feta, tomato and cucumber salad. Although I felt the food presentation was not as well done as last time, the food was still great. The service was not as great as it was last time. So my husband and I are helping with our son's PTA this year. This was our parents only event. I love so many things about this place. Let's start with the concept. I was pleasantly surprised after reading hit or miss reviews about the food here. We'd parked behind the fire station and walked over as parking seems limited on busier nights. It's pretty large work seating at the inside bar, The food: My friend ordered several appetizers for the table. + Cheeseburger egg roll: Definitely cheesy; had a good sauce on the side: you get 2 cut in half + Onion rings: Greasy, but good; comes with their sauce which is delicious + Tot-chos: I would have really liked these without the chili, but that's more of a personal preference. You get a lot of them. For my entree I ordered the Southerner burger which has pepper jelly, cream cheese and an onion ring on it. Wow! The slight bite of the cream cheese mixed with the pepper jelly really helped. The meat patties (I got a double at the waitress' suggestion, but you can even upsize to three) had a bit of that yummy grilled crispiness. It was delicious and the best burger I've had in a while. Drinks: I've always found Mason Jar's (who owns this) beer to be average, but at least they have branched out to offer kinda besides lagers. I went with a sour; it was ok. Apex's Tap Station is perfectly nestled right at the END of the main street strip and businesses. You can leisurely stroll through downtown and end up at the very modern, tasteful, and trendy Tap Station. Staff was friendly, had a confident attitude (which we love), and even razzed us a bit when we tried to order a Long Island (off the menu). We started with the Watermelon Jalapeño Margarita and boy was it good. Not too spicy...not too sweet. My buddy had a beer. We sat upstairs, enjoyed the deck, sunshine, and....dogs! Speaking of dogs, we had the Chicago dog and Buffalo chicken sandwich. The breading and seasoning was very similar to Popeye's (win) and they even "crisped up" the tots. We were impressed by the Tap's overall model, décor, reasonable price point, service, and food. We look forward to our next "fill" and trying some of the other dogs on the menu. read more
