12" cheese pizza and banana hammock beer

5/2/26 Update: Kevin Decker reached out to me and we communicated via email. Kevin acknowledged the shortcomings and valued the feedback. He even refunded the entire meal to make things right. I appreciate Kevin reaching out and taking the time to email back and forth. I'll definitely give the Crooked Hammock another try in the future. ---------- I went to the new Crooked Hammock location in Raleigh with my wife and her daughter. This was our first time to any of their locations and we were looking forward to having a nice meal out. The first issue that arose was the parking. Rather, the lack of parking. For as big as the place is, there is very little parking. It has to be the smallest parking lot for a restaurant that size that isn't located in a downtown area. However, we were able to park in a nearby parking deck, even though it appeared to be visitor parking for somewhere else. Other people seemed to have the same idea. We were happily greeted when we entered. Though the wait for outdoor seating was 2 hours (it was a nice day out), indoor seating was immediately available, which is what we chose. After being seating, we were greeted by our server, Kevin within a couple of minutes. Kevin was nice and helpfully explained the layout of the menus after he learned it was our first time at the Crooked Hammock. Kevin was also helpful in selecting between different beers and entrees. Our drink orders were placed and came out pretty quickly. They ran out of the drink my wife wanted, but she ordered something else and everything was fine. We placed our food orders. It was about 20 minutes later where things started to go downhill. I ordered a pizza. My wife ordered a portobello mushroom burger. Her daughter ordered a kids mac and cheese. The pizza came out within 20 minutes, if not sooner. Kevin came by to say the timing was off and the rest of the food would be coming out in a few minutes. Spoiler: it did not. It would be a little over an hour later until the rest of the food would arrive. While I acknowledge this wasn't Kevin's fault, I have thoughts on how it could've been handled differently. The restaurant was busy and servers were busily going around to tend to their tables. However, we should've been tended to as well. Some time after about 30 minutes, Kevin made eye contact with me and I saw him walking somewhere, presumably to find out what's going on with our food. He then came out and mouthed to me that it would be 2 more minutes. Spoiler #2: it wasn't. It would be at least another 30 minutes until the rest of the food came out. During our wait, we saw other pizza orders coming out left and right. It seemed as if the pizzas were being made quickly, but the rest of the food was far behind. Another server told the table next to us that the kitchen was severely backed up, for which he apologized. That same server came over to also tell us the situation with the kitchen. Kevin also apologized when he eventually brought us our food. I understand that when a business first opens its doors, there can be some growing pains. However, it's not so much the issues that arise, it's how you handle those issues to ensure customer satisfaction. A manager or wait staff can handle things in such a way that makes you as a customer feel good, even when things go wrong. This is the difference between your first visit having some hiccups, but you walk away happy or never coming back. I would've liked for Kevin to provide more frequent updates about the food. I would've also liked to have seen a manager go around to each table to apologize for the inconvenience. The real icing on the cake would've been to have some money taken off the bill or provide a complimentary dessert, but I don't always expect something for free. I won't be in a rush to return to the Crooked Hammock. On top of the experience, the food was just alright, and the prices were quite high. The beer was very good, so if I do return, it might be just for that. I'd give the restaurant a little while to work out the kinks before recommending anyone visit for the food.

I really enjoyed my experience here. They have a small free parking lot, and there is another free parking garage across the street. Visited on a Friday evening around 530 and it was packed. It was about a 45 minute wait for a table, but they put your name on a text list and you can see how many parties in front of you. Ended up being closer to 30 minutes. We were able to order a drink at their walk up bar, they brew a lot in-house and the hammock light was great. The space itself is massive with indoor seating, indoor bar, and outdoor seating. Outside there is a jungle gym for kids, as well as a ping pong table and corn hole boards. At the time we visited, if you joined their app you got a free boardwalk fry appetizer so we did that. We also ordered 12 buffalo wings, pepperoni pizza, and a side of Mac. The server did let us know that the pizza is made completely separate so sometimes they come out at different times. The pizza ended up coming out about 5 minutes before the rest. The pizza was surprisingly delicious and I enjoyed the wings as well! Overall, would definitely return.

Cool new spot in Raleigh. Service was good- food came quickly. Really liked the menu items we tried. A highlight for us were the sliders, they had great flavors. Really nice building, you can tell they invested a lot! Great space to bring your family.

They have a very extensive inventory of bourbons including all the high-end ones you would want. The bartenders making amazing recipes including my partners favorite, Tom Yum, taste just like the soup. I can often enjoy a whiskey sour with no issue and use the menu to try something different. They don't serve food, so it's a good place to come after dinner. The ambiance is simple, a wooden bar and now that they have expanded, they have some tables as well. This past trip was the most crowded I've ever seen it in there, but the service was still quick and attentive. This bar is a staple for me.

For those that follow me on Yelp for brewery reviews, cocktail bar reviews are few and far between. So if I make a point of making a visit, it really is special. Great selection of product (I guess) but what I appreciate is the care and attention each glass is prepared by the bar keep. They are very friendly and knowledgeable - which is good for me, b/c I ask a lot of questions! Service is careful, but does crawl if the house is full, it really is tiny inside - did you know there was a back door, patio area? I particularly like the absence of having to yell at my table mates - it makes this barbour more sophisticated in this respect.Everything, right down to the outside marquee is subtle - and we like leaving the madding crowd far away...

We grabbed a few spots at the bar and live music was playing outside on this beautiful evening, lots of families buzzing around. The bartenders were really good, knowledgeable, and on it. I had the cocktail of the week which was a gin and Prosecco concoction and hubby had draft pumpkinhead, it's the season. Both good choices! They have TVs if you want to watch the game and big tables to just chill. I'm assuming you can bring in food too from the nearby spots. Overall loved this hidden gem! We will be back!

I'll admit, seeing it next to a Food Lion didn't exactly set the bar high, but the moment I walked in and saw the massive wall of bottles stretching to the ceiling, I knew I'd misjudged it. The bartender with the blue hair was outstanding. (Did her job so well I cannot remember her name for the life of me). She explained how everything worked, pointed us toward great beer options in the back cooler, and then really impressed us by taking time to understand both my taste and my friend's despite us having totally different bourbon preferences. She gave thoughtful recommendations at multiple price points and tailored each suggestion specifically to what we liked. Knowledgeable, personable, and genuinely fun to talk to. The regulars were friendly, the atmosphere felt welcoming, and the whole place has that hidden-gem neighborhood vibe you hope to find when traveling. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town and I'll be on the lookout for a few bottles thanks to her recommendations.

I'm not a huge beer drinker but was still impressed at the plethora of options (International beer on the 2nd floor, Domestic Beer on the first floor, and a separate liquor bar on the first floor as well). So if you are looking for a LOT OF BEER OPTIONS, this is a good place to start/try. I tried a flight of ciders because that's as close to beer as I would typically get (I've attempted to try so many with beer fest but I just can't get into it) and I couldn't choose what I wanted so I had the wonderful bartender select them for me. She provided amazing, friendly service because as indecisive as I can be, she was very patient. For a meal, I order the Jalapeño burger and it was delicious. The jalapeño is basically the sauce that gives the kick you're looking for, not actual jalapeños, and it comes with plenty of fries. Again, I left not a single crumb lol This place is really cool inside and looks like something out of a fairytale with the trees growing through the restaurant. I love plants and nature so for me it was everything. I'd love to see it at night and check out how it's lit up, certain it looks beautiful!

We started the night off by grabbing a couple of drinks, and they actually just recently starting serving cocktails, which was a big plus for my wife. After getting our drinks, we wandered into the next room and were delighted to see a ping pong table waiting for us :) They also had cornhole and a big TV showing the Hurricanes game. There wasn't a huge crowd for the karaoke, but the host was cool and the song selection was pretty large. I was also happy that the karaoke started at an earlier hour (7 PM) than most places. Starting karaoke at 10 PM is kind of brutal when you have kids :) One random aside is that the water fountain near the bathrooms was extremely powerful, so it was honestly a little hard to use. That sounds kind of ridiculous, but it was seriously firing halfway across the room. Overall, we'd definitely come back!
