3 years later and this is still our favorite restaurant in Wake Forest. The recipes have never changed and the staff are still amazing as ever. We have been here twice in the past two weeks to say our goodbyes to friends as we are moving out of state. We will truly miss Norse Brewery. You really cannot go wrong with anything you order. Can't complain about a place like this! We stopped in yesterday and the food is still amazing. Beer cheese tots, meatloaf and a wedge salad. Lots of mixed drink options and can make your own. We ate here about 3 years ago - before we moved here - and it was outside behind the eatery, with tables under a shaded area - food was awesome then, and we're happy to be back dining here as WF residents! The Norwegian-inspired menu is full of hearty and flavorful items. Our opener of Loaded Beer-Cheese Tots paired with a couple of co-owner/Brewmaster Brad Wynn's brewed on-site beers was heavenly. You MUST sample several of his creations, and take a moment to see the incredible brewery that is a huge part of the experience - his wife Lynn gave us a quick and amazing tour of the brewery, see pics. I had the Viking Burger, a carnivorian delight made from elk, bison, boar and wagyu meats and a half Norwegian salad that had us swooning with pleasure - a full salad would be a satisfying main vegetarian entree. Norse is a nice little bar with plenty of character. Different beers on tap some change here and there. While sitting at the bar you can see where they brew the beer. The food is amazing! I had the Viking burger- it was cooked really rare like I asked it had a mixture of bison, elk, wagyu and boar together which made it tender juicy and delicious. It came with a side of sweet potato chips, they were good. I also got to taste my husband's food which was Elk sausage it was tasty , the mustard they put on it was really good. I was a fan of Norse until the past year or so. Prices have increased significantly (more than inflation) and the portions are shrinking. I fully understand that food is expensive, but when you pay $18 for a burger, you'd expect a full tomato slice and a full leaf of lettuce. It just isn't worth the price for what you get. I tried Norse the week they opened a few years ago, but am only reviewing this visit where I got a beer flight (no food). As someone who regularly tries higher quality beer from across the country, I can say this was very average. The "nitro" stout didn't feel like it at all...those should have a creamier consistency and what I got was not it. The amber lacked good flavor. First time visiting Norse Brewing. It's in a convenient location in downtown Wake Forest. The atmosphere is really laid back. Ample indoor seating with outdoor seating too - dogs allowed on the patio. The bar service was good; kitchen staff were slow. I had a BLT, pasta salad, and a cherry sour ale; very good. My husband had a Viking burger, fries, and a Hazy IPA. He asked for his burger to be cooked medium-well but it was well-done, had a strong charcoal taste, and the fries were cold. Sat in the back patio during lunch and had a great experience. We brought our 6lbs Yorkie and they had water bowls ready for her! We ordered the Viking burger and the salmon burger. It was pretty okay to be honest, I had a lot of people recommend this place and their burger so I had high expectations. Personally, I don't think it was anything exceptional. If you live by locally and looking for a convenience spot to come and hang out and have a drink, it's a nice ambiance but I wouldn't Go out of my way to come here. I would say the best and most flavored thing I had here was the the dill lemon aioli on the salmon burger, everything else is pretty mids. Nice random touch, it had these marine biodegradable compostable straws, they don't see that off in a restaurant so that's a big bonus in my mind! read more

Food is good, the waitress unfortunately seems to be the only one working on the group project. It's currently not busy at all for a Saturday night at 745p. We got here at a little after 7 and my wife and I have been able to order 1 cocktail each. I ordered a beer at about 730 and when the bartender/hostess finally came out from the back where the beer is brewed she found time to pour my beer. We did notice that she had looked over numerous times but continued to braid the hair of another girl. The food is good, the atmosphere is pleasant, just don't expect prompt service, or at least not tonight. read more

I returned to Norse Brewing for brunch. I wish they took reservations as we had almost an hour wait. But it is a busy place and had live music and an artist painting as well. So that made it fun. I'm not sure if they offer that every Sunday or if it is an occasional treat. It was loud from other tables so it was hard to have a conversation at the table. I didn't go with any of the brunch options as the Viking Burger caught my eye. It was a blend of bison; elk; boar and wagyu. I made a good decision as it was so very good. It came with fries as well. I liked that there was a handheld machine to process payments at the table as it was so quick and easy. I will be back to try some of the other menu items although it will be difficult not to order the Viking Burger again as it was that good. read more

TLDR: Neat Viking themed brewery with efficient customer service, delicious entrees, and strong beers. After viewing the mouth-watering menu online, we decided to stop here for a beer flight and a late lunch. Parking is available around the side of the restaurant. Stop at the hostess stand to be seated at an indoor or outdoor table or sit at the indoor bar. We chose a few seats at the bar. Immediately the efficient bartender greeted us and informed us of the QR code menu. They also have paper menus per request. We requested a paper menu and chose beer flights, elk sausage with duck fat fries, and a Viking burger with sweet potato chips. In the beer flight, we liked the brown ale and wit the best. Although the beer was enjoyable, the food was the star. The elk sausage was delicious and it was paired with an amazing spicy mustard. We wanted to purchase some mustard to go and were informed that it is available online and made in Asheville! The Viking burger similarly was flavorful and surprisingly juicy. The duck fat fries were fatty, but oh so tasty and seasoned well. The sweet potato chips are crisp and salty. Our orders were accurate and the bartender was incredibly attentive. Norse brewing company prides itself on its three pillars of Beer, Food, and Family, all of which were exemplified during our visit. Their food is a unique mix of American/Scandinavian flavors, their dining area feels reminiscent of the Great Hall of Valhalla, and their brewing process is an art in itself. We were able to sample a few of their beers on the tour including: -Phat Thor stout (ABV 5.9%, Flavor profile included chocolate, coffee, and caramel) -Stratalounger IPA (ABV 5.3%, very light and refreshing with tropical citrus notes) -Tettenhall Cranberry cider (ABV 6.5%, flavor profile was crisp, juicy red fruit, and cranberries, my buddy's 'favorite) My personal favorite was definitely the That Guy's Beer Brown Ale which was rich in caramel notes and biscuit like flavors (ABV 6.4%). The brown ale paired perfectly with the Norse burger which included a blend of bison, boar, wagyu, and elk patty and was topped with caramelized onions, blue cheese, lettuce, tomato, all on a union special bread bun. The delicious food included: -the radish toast which was @union special sourdough topped with huge radish slices, goat cheese, olive oil, black pepper, and sea salt. This was surprisingly very satisfying and had us coming back for seconds and thirds . -The prosciutto wrapped grilled asparagus was savory and thick -the Frikadeller dish were meatballs were flavorful and topped with goat cheese gravy, pickled cabbage, ligonberry jam. Stopped by for dinner, the ladies had wine and I had the Astrid beer. My wife had the Wrapped Asparagus with prosciutto and provolone cheese. Which she loved and it was cooked perfectly. She also had the BLT which was fabulous. Our friend had the Norwegian Blue salad and it is made in the shape of a Viking Ship and then with grilled shrimp another fabulous meal. I had the fried filet of flounder on a Union Special Bun that is made especially for this restaurant. Had Mac and Cheese as my side and this was very good. Our server was Brooke and she was great, very professional and courteous to us the whole evening. Always checking on us to see what we needed she is the server to have. Norse Brewing Company has a nice environment, and I liked that they had little games for kids. However, the seating was uncomfortable since all the tables were high tops. A big downside was that the menu didn't have calorie information, which always knocks a star off for me. The waitress was nice, but the food took forever, which made us late to the event we were going to. I got a cheeseburger and mac and cheese--the mac and cheese was better than I expected, and the burger was good too. Overall, I'd give it 3 stars. read more

I've been a fan of this place since they opened here in Wake Forest late in 2019. The did a really nice renovation of the space which use to be an Italian restaurant. I really like the Viking / Nordic decor and theme for the place. There is seating on the main level, lower level and outside when the weather cooperates. Since opening they have their beer production up and running and offer a full line of brewery produced beers. I think they have a seven barrel system here and they have their standard selections and seasonal offerings. If your not into beer they have a nice cocktail menu and they offer an assortment of wines. I have dined here a couple of times in the past and the food is actually really good. Last Sunday we went for brunch and they were slammed so to speak. It took almost an hour for our orders to come out and the staff was apologetic. Because it took so long they gave me a gift card for a future visit. I get it, kitchens get busy and sometimes tickets could be mixed up or missed altogether. My son and his buddy ordered the Chicken and Waffles (cheat day lol). The two teenagers cleaned their plates so I will say they enjoyed it. My wife ordered the breakfast sandwich and she enjoyed it very much. I got the All Father Viking burger and it was delicious. I usually don't mix coffee and beer but at brunch I do. I had their That Guys Brown Ale (American) and I'll give it 4 . Even though we waited awhile for the food we still had a nice time and a good meal. If I could give them 4 1/4 stars for it I would. If you're ever in Wake Forest pay them a visit. You won't be disappointed. read more

This is primarily on the food as we didn't try the beer or anything on tap (beer, root beer, cider, etc. ) First the decor is pretty cool, they are going for the norse/viking theme and it's pretty cool. Not as much indoor seating as I would have expected, but they brew their own beer and that takes up space. The food was pretty adequate overpriced brewery food. We got the norse burger and it was just adequate, not sure if any of the game meat was in it, but it was ok.. the tots are straight from the bag. The avocado toast, lots of toppings with very little avocado.. the best of everything was the beet salad, lots of beets. What really brings it down was while we were leaving, we saw the owner/manager,etc walk in carrying the meat straight from what looked like the grocery store. Interesting menu but the food was bland. The drinks were underwhelming. The service was pretty bad on our visit. This place was not busy when we went. We sat for 15 minutes (no exaggeration) with menus before anyone even took our drink order. And we were near the employee area by the bar and literally watched wait staff do anything but notice. When the app came, a server just dropped it down. Since the wait staff weren't really dropping by/monitoring our table I had to get up, walk up to the kitchen and ask for small plates so we could share. Food came, and again, just plunked down. Had to get up and go to the bar for condiments and napkins. When waited on, we were just ocassionally asked, "need anything?", "how's things tasting?" (which is the most annoying question ever... but that's my pet peave) and, "so... what's the vibe?" I get it. This isn't fine dining. However, one would expect to get a drink within a couple of minutes of getting seated. Also, if a wait staff has to ask you for everything thing you need, they aren't a decent wait staff regardless of how friendly they phrase their questioning. They should see people sitting with menus and no drinks and know they should drop in to take an order, they should see that drink glasses/water glasses are low/empty and drop in to refill/take another order, they should see that food was placed on the table and assess what the table needs. It just didn't appear as though anyone was trained and no one had any previous experience at all. The cocktails and the beer were ho-hum. Nothing to really bring you back. The food was pretty bland. We had an amazing experience at Norse Brewing. The brews were really good, we tried a flight and found the Cranmerry sour especially delicious for the holiday. Smoked Manhattan was a really cool twist on a classic, they served in a little mason jar with the smoke captured inside. If yummy brews and cocktails were not reason enough to go; the food was terrific. I loved the shrimp and grits which comes with pork belly and mushrooms. My daughter thought the chicken and waffles were some of the best she has eaten. Hubby's eggs, bacon,and biscuit were good as well. The biscuit was excellent and perfectly done.
