Stopped by Parkside for lunch with a coworker because I desperately wanted a grilled cheese and tomato soup on a rainy day. The Auntie Nessa did not disappoint. Genuinely the gooeyist grilled cheese I've had. The fries also reminded me of a place growing up and I immediately had to text my sister about it. Our server was great and everything came out quickly which was perfect for a work lunch break. I will definitely be coming back.
The service here is easily a five, and for what it's meant to be--a neighborhood sports bar--the ambience is about a four. We came in today with reasonable expectations after finding the restaurant online and seeing mostly positive reviews. We ordered several items to share as a family: broccoli cheddar soup, a French dip sandwich with green beans, and poutine fries. Unfortunately, the broccoli cheddar soup was very bland and lacked seasoning. We had a few bites and ended up leaving the rest. The French dip was the standout of the meal. While the meat itself was a bit dry, dipping it in the au jus made it the most enjoyable and edible item we ordered. The poutine fries were disappointing. They were very basic and didn't resemble what I would expect from poutine--more like prepackaged frozen fries that had been deep-fried. We didn't finish them and left most behind, though we still paid for them. Our child wouldn't eat any of the food, so we ordered the fried ravioli appetizer, hoping it would be similar to versions we've had elsewhere. Sadly, that was another letdown. Although we were told there was no breading, the texture suggested otherwise. This was the one item we did send back. I wouldn't recommend this location for anyone with food allergies or sensitivities, as much of the food appears to be made from frozen or prepackaged items. That said, our server was absolutely wonderful--the highlight of the visit. She was kind, attentive, kept our drinks refilled, and genuinely made us feel welcome. Her sweet demeanor and constant smile were honestly the reason we didn't complain more at the time. While I wouldn't return for the food, I might consider stopping by again strictly for drinks during a sporting event. Otherwise, this just wasn't the dining experience we were hoping for.
Got to check out a new spot (for me) today that had been on my list and wasn't disappointed. We had a large-ish party and the service was on point, meals came out in a timely manner and were able to pay and get in and out relatively quick. My French dip and tots were delicious and everyone else's meals looked fabulous as well. They give you large portions even at lunch and have great presentation. I didn't get a photo of the salads but they were beautiful. The menu is quite large with lots of yummy sounding options so I can't wait to go back. They have street parking along the sides with a 2hr max, pay at kiosk or on app.
This restaurant is located downtown so street parking or a parking structure will be required when dining here. There are several tables located inside. During our visit our server was not really attentive. I ordered the burger and fries. I was not a fan of the cheese sauce on the burger, the fries were not good, and the burger was ok. The waffle that my mom was given was burnt on some parts. She said that it did have good flavor and the chicken was seasoned well. Unfortunately based upon this experience I would not want to return.
This is the kind of place where mashed potatoes have gravitational pull and mac 'n' cheese is basically a warm hug in a bowl. It's your neighborhood time machine, serving up grandma-level comfort with a side of sass. These guys serve a serious meatloaf dinner-A thick slice of homemade meatloaf--juicy, savory, and smothered in rich, no-nonsense brown gravy. Served with buttery mashed potatoes that know all your secrets, and green beans so fresh they still think they're in the garden. It's the kind of meal that gives your soul a blanket and tucks it in. Come hungry and leave nostalgic. Cheers!
My friend and I stopped by Parkside during the weekend for a late brunch. I ended up ordering the chicken and waffles, my favorite meal of all time. I will say that it did not disappoint! The chicken was moist and well-seasoned. I also loved that they used Belgian waffles, my favorite kind of waffle. The meal came with an additional side. I decided to go with the mac and cheese, which was a let down. It was okay...but honestly it wasn't needed. I was stuffed just with the chicken and waffles. My friend and I also tried out a few cocktails on their menu. I ordered the Pain Killer - a classic- and my friend got the Watermelon Redbull margarita. Both were pretty tasty although I think mine was ever so slightly better. Service was great! No complaints there. Next time I'm in the Raleigh area, I'll definitely be back!
UPDATE: I've had a chance to visit Parkside Restaurant in DTR a couple of times since my initial review and I have found a better experience, especially my most recent time there catching up with an old friend over Sunday brunch. It was pretty easy to grab a table at 11am even though we had no reservation, as the seating area had plenty of options. I did notice that they filled up rather quickly after we were seated and we came at just the right time. We were seated at one of the booths next to the large windows. After grabbing a cuppa and perusing the brunch menu, I went with their Biscuit & Chorizo Gravy selection but asking to substitute scrambled for sunny eggs which they gladly did. I liked my brunch meal, it was great with the different textures and the delicious gravy (very flavorful but not too spicy which is good for me) mingled nicely with the biscuit and the eggs. I was very satisfied once completing this meal and I think I have found my bunch menu selection I'll stick with on future visits. Our server was very pleasant and attentive from start to finish. With all the positives on this most recent visit, I am here to kick them up a star and I am looking forward to more meals here in the future.
The restaurant was perfect for brunch while vacationing. Reservations are recommended. Paid public parking is available. One of our guests were running 30 minutes late and the restaurant was very accommodating. The server was prompted and answered all questions. The menu is extensive. The seating is not very spacious but the space is inviting. The food was hot, fresh, and prepared accurately. I would recommend!

First of all - get the prime rib. Parkside is such a great restaurant. I would highly recommend snagging a reservation, since the restaurant is pretty popular and they only have so much space, so it's helpful to have. I've been here for both brunch and dinner and have loved both. They have fantastic spicy bloody marys and their grits are SO GOOD. But that prime rib... I was absolutely blown away. It was served with decadent garlicky mashed potatoes and green beans and seriously, omg it was sooo good. Their poutine, deviled eggs and hummus are also fantastic small plates. Service is also really friendly. This is a great place!
Food here is okay, nothing spectacular. I was a little disappointed because none of their draft beer was working. I ordered the haddock, it was good but I feel like it could have been better. Came with two sides, I got fries and a side Caesar salad. The Caesar salad was really good, fries were just average. The location is great though!
Service was excellent! Food was beautiful and delicious. We had Mediterranean Salad, Breakfast Burrito, Fruit Salad with beautiful fresh fruit (large) shrimp added, prime rib burger (was a little dry don't order it medium well). Tatertot hash have a lots of crunchy onions in them. Server kept our drinks full.
My husband and I came here for brunch when we were first visiting Raleigh house-hunting. We decided to revisit for Mother's Day brunch this year. We showed up early with our 1.5 year old daughter and they were able to seat us immediately. The area felt spacious, although that could be due to the fact that it wasn't super packed inside. I ordered the short rib benedict, my husband got the chicken & waffle sandwich, and we ordered my daughter a side of the mac & cheese. What a delicious meal! The short rib was tender and flavorful, and sat on top of a biscuit (what's not to love here?!) - horseradish hollandaise was the perfect touch as the horseradish pairs nicely with the beef. The chicken & waffle sandwich was the best guilty pleasure! Waffle crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, chicken breaded and fried with a nice crunch, and a nice hot honey syrup to go alongside -- wish this had a little more heat. To our surprise, the mac & cheese side was a highlight too! It's hard to get a good mac n cheese, but this had such a rich, white cheese, slight funk flavor - delicious. Brunch at Parkside is delicious. Looking forward to trying dinner here soon. read more

Finally had the chance to stop by Parkside. The interior gave me cozy diner vibes. Plenty of seating, clean and bright. The menu is massive which made it hard to decide, but our waitress was so kind and walked us through all of the popular options. I wound up ordering the short rib melt with mac and cheese. The short rib itself was really good. It had nice flavor and was cooked well. I do wish the melt would have had some kind of sauce or au jus element to it to give it some moisture because it was slightly on the dry side. The mac and cheese was unfortunately gritty, so I would skip that next time and try a different side. The drinks here are great. They had Mango Cart on tap which is one of my all time favorite beers. The cocktail selection is well priced, and I also got the gin fizz, which I loved. Not sure that Parkside will be a regular visit because the food was okay, but the vibes and drinks were great. Definitely worth a try if you've never been. read more
Finally stopped by Parkside Restaurant in downtown Raleigh after passing by this place several times. When you arrive there is parking available on the street or in a nearby lot. Walking in the restaurant feels inviting, cozy, and distinctly neighborhood oriented. This is actually the longest running neon restaurant sign in North Carolina. To be seated you'll check in with the host and then be shown to your table. For drinks I ordered the Pineapple Press (citrus vodka infused with fresh pineapple, shaken hard and served up) and the Cuba Cola (black cherry rum, vanilla simple syrup, branded cherry & cola) cocktails. I really enjoyed the Cuba Cola which was very good and a tasted just like a coke. My partner ordered a mango cart on tap and the Blackberry Gin Fizz (Bombay Sapphire, lime juice, blackberries, aquafaba). She enjoyed both drinks which the gin fizz being more on the sour side. For entrees I ordered the Prime Rib Burger (prime rib patty, arugula, caramelized onion, brie cheese, bacon jam, brioche bun) with tater tots on the side and my partner ordered the Short Rib Melt (braised short rib, cheddar cheese, provolone cheese, caramelized onion, sourdough). Overall both dishes were a bit disappointing. The tater tots were cold and the burger was well done even though I requested medium for the temp. My partners short rib melt was okay but on the dry side and really needed some type of au jus to dit it in. The Mac & cheese she had on the side was also gritty and wasn't very tasty. Overall the drinks were great but the food was a miss. Not sure I'll return but overall the experience was okay. read more

This place is great! We came around the Christmas time, so the place was decorated festively; It was a nice sight to see. Our waiter was kind, friendly, and made sure to check in on us frequently. The food itself was delicious! The pretzel was warm and soft, and the entrees were definitely worth their money. All in all, I had a great experience and hope to be back soon. read more

Family brought me here for Mother's Day and enjoyed this cute corner diner. The service was not great - our coffee was not refilled until after we received our food. Food was all good. Started with Deviled Eggs, followed by Bananas Foster French Toast, 5 stars but wish it had a few more bananas. Breakfast Plate was your average variety of eggs, bacon, sausage (best of the bunch), grits and toast. Chicken waffle sandwich - waffle was the best part. The Pork chop waffle was the star of the show - 5 stars! Definitely recommend this place Fri brunch. read more
09/28- couples brunch. Everyone enjoyed their food. I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich and fries. My husband opted for the chicken and waffles with a side of mac n cheese. While the mac n cheese wasn't traditional, it was tasty. My girlfriend and her husband also enjoyed their food. Service was prompt which is always a plus! read more

Decided to have lunch here with the kids since it was highly rated in the area. First off, if you get a booth, be prepared to have to sit on the edge of the seat to even reach the table. Im 6'3" and was very uncomfortable the entire time I was there due to this. The food is some of the worst I've had. Asked for my burger to be Medium, it comes out well done. It was beyond dry, egg was well done and the hash brown was old and greasy. The waffle was not mixed well at all and could taste the flour and it was crunchy, not in a good way. Service was slow, took over 5 mins after we got our food to even get our drinks refilled which were empty for a good while. Personally, we wont be back. Maybe we just came at the wrong time, but for the price you pay here, I expect to have at least decently cooked food. read more

We were in town for a convention and the security guard there recommended this place a few blocks away for breakfast. Unfortunately by the time we arrived it was lunch time, but we didn't mind at all. It's a nice place with friendly service and an upscale diner vibe. My husband had the ribeye steak sandwich and I had a French Dip. They were similar sandwiches actually but with different toppings. The meat was tender and yummy on both. I loved the option for tater tots. Definitely worth the short walk and a great option for a meal in the area. read more
Easily made a same-day res for 6 people for brunch on a Saturday, but unfortunately this spot was not it. I tried: + Parkside burger - good but nothing special + Chicken and waffle sandwich - total letdown, chicken was neither crispy nor hot + Tater tots - great + Tater tot hash - amazing, this was the best thing I tried + Belgian waffle - amazing, other best thing + Mac and cheese - meh I guess come for the Belgian waffle and the tater tot hash. Otherwise, you can get much better Southern fare at Beasley's or Tupelo Honey. read more
Came here for the first time on a Thursday night and it did not disappoint! We had a reservation but probably didn't need it. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. The sandwich was delicious, but the mac and cheese was just ok. I've had better mac and cheese. My husband got the firehouse burger and that also was filling and delicious. We made a brunch reservation at Parkside so we could ensure we had a hearty meal before heading to the first day of Dreamville ... and a hearty meal was exactly what we got (& even came back the next day for another meal bc this first one was so dang good). The restaurant was lively, buzzing and busy and service was A+ despite this. We ordered the mimosa flight because what's brunch without mimosas and we went with the Pimento Cheese with Fried Saltine Crackers and the Fried Pickle Spears since these were two things we've never had ... OOOOOOMMMMGGGGG OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! The crackers left us speechless because they by themselves are a bite your mouth thanks you for and with the pimento cheese it's an all around party! The pickles were super crunchy and fried to perfection and we couldn't stop eating them. I had the fried pork chop and cheddar waffle with a side of cheese grits for my entree and that pork chop was fried to PERFECTION! They also add on diced peaches and a side of a peach puree which at first I was like I don't know about this ... but clearly Parkside did because the combo was MAGICAL! Oh and the cheese grits ... probably the best I've ever had! Our meal left us stuffed but we literally needed more which is why we came back the very next day lol! Highly recommend Parkside when you're in the mood for the best brunch food! read more

I recently returned to Parkside and realize it is time to update my review. They now offer brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. It is a busy place so make sure to make your reservations. Service was wonderful as the waitress was patient while we chatted for a bit and we weren't rushed. Another change is that they switched to taking cards at the table so your credit card is never out of your sight. It made things faster too. I went with the short rib benedict as I love my eggs benedict and trying different spins on them. This one had the runny yolks that I prefer and the boneless short rib went well with the biscuit. I still prefer an english muffin to the biscuit though but the ingredients worked well together. read more
Wow what a great menu! We ended up here at brunch time and the menu was packed with tasty food. We had the tomato bisque (possibly the best I've had) and some sweet waffles along with coffee. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt and there was a good energy to the restaurant. Check it out for brunch for sure, I should have ordered the fried pickles... Such a cute spot! read more

Atmosphere Food Wait staff My first impression it is unique The location is convenient and has parking on the side of the street or the parking lot. Outdoor seating is available Great menu items for your drinking partner. I was excited to visit this place because of the beautiful food pictures. I was excited to go but I did not realize that the sweet waffles were served cold . They are delicious but for a breakfast/brunch it was not expected. I ordered eggs and the tater tot hash was a favorite for me. I would order food food from here again but the fact that I was sprayed by a server twice while they were cleaning up a table and did not apologize messed it up for me. The fact that they noticed and made eye contact with me and still did not try to right the mistake. They do not have a very large food variety for people who are vegetarian or have food allergies like Alpha Gal syndrome. read more
After wanting to check Parkside out for a while, I finally went before a sold-out weeknight show at Red Hat Amphitheater. Parkside was slammed with fellow show goers, no doubt. But they handled the crowd with aplomb and didn't make us feel like they were in a rush. Really solid first experience, I'll be back again. They sat us 15 mins after my reservation, but they were communicative and attentive as they could be. Our beers and fried pickles came out fast and tasted great. I loved my French dip, fries, and homemade ranch for the main event. It was hard to choose from the menu, it was right up my alley. I found it pretty cool they do a meat-and-three special as well, might try it next time. Definitely a downtown gem with fair prices and good management. I came upon Parkside Restaurant while walking around downtown Raleigh with a friend. I immediately noticed the warm decor of the restaurant upon entry. Everyone that my friend and I encountered was friendly and personable (hostess, waiter and server). I really enjoyed that the staff was attentive and went out of their way to engage in a conversation with us. I ordered the BLT sandwich with tater tots, and my order arrived in no time. The tater tots were crispy and delicious. The BLT was flavorful with peppered bacon and Duke's mayo (a personal favorite of mine). The bacon was a thicker cut, and if I'm being honest it was a bit chewy for my liking. Overall, I enjoyed my first visit to Parkside restaurant. read more
Nice breakfast spot. Started with a Bloody Mary-delicious. Had one of the brunch specials-Corned Beef Hash (it was St. Patrick's Day), as did 2 other people in my party. The other person has the Breakfast Reuben. All was very good. Our server was excellent and fixed a small glitch with one of the orders that was a miscommunication-no problem. This place was in walking distance of our hotel and had a variety of food in the menu. I got the meatloaf and though I don't like mushrooms the gravy was really really good so I just picked around them. You get a decent amount of food and the potatoes were delicious. I also got a Moscow mule and it was made perfectly. My server was very attentive and made sure to also give me time to enjoy my meal. Seating is decent in the inside and they also have outdoor seating. read more
