The quality of food has gone down significantly. I've given them multiple chances before updating my review. I'm not sure if they have an incompetent kitchen staff or new management. I don't think they clean their grill regularly , there have been multiple instances where the burger came out burnt with grill residue on it. Most recent visit, ordered a chipotle chicken stack sandwich with no butter on bread and crispy fries. The order came out with bread soaked in oil, soggy fries and chicken tenders, and no chipotle sauce. They took at back to fix it. Came back out with again no chipotle sauce, soggy fries and tenders. I'm highly disappointed in deteriorating quality of food and service. I used to go there atleast once a week. I don't think i will ever go back!! read more

The staff dash between tables like they've got invisible rockets on their shoes, balancing trays, menus, and the occasional existential dread. New customers arrive like clockwork, and somehow each one is greeted with a smile while the last table is still mid-order and someone else's fries are teetering on the edge of oblivion. Multitasking isn't a skill here--it's a survival tactic. The Old Fashioned lands on the table with all the fanfare of a workmanlike touchdown: competent, decent enough, but not the stuff of legends. No smoky magic, no alchemy--just whiskey, sugar, bitters, and ice doing their basic jobs. The nachos show up looking hopeful: a modest pile of chips garnished with a polite drizzle of cheese sauce, a dab of sour cream, a spoonful of salsa, and a sprinkling of lettuce that screams "fresh-ish." The problem is, the cheese is timid, more of a suggestion than a commitment, and the whole thing settles somewhere between "edible" and "I could have made this at home, probably better. I've been to Village Draft House twice and had a fine time on both occasions. The food is good. It won't blow your mind, but it won't disappoint you either. The service on both occasions was a little lacking in attentiveness. We waited a long time between each check in for having waters filled or ordering more drinks. And it wasn't busy. One piece of feedback for anyone reading this, that is not the restaurant's fault, is that it isn't a great place to watch a football game. We came here to watch an NFL playoff game and the place was nearly empty at 8 pm on Saturday. It's not bad. I'll repeat that. I enjoyed my food (nachos and a burger). I ceased going here, the food has gone downhill and I experienced one of the meanest and worst bartenders. I live within walking distance and used to love to go. They lost a great bartender named John. The bad bartender was probably in her 40's. She would pass me by behind the bar and would not look to see i had an empty glasss. I tried to get her attention to no avail. I picked up my voice to get her attention and eventually said "the customer is always right". She yelled from way away "the customer is not always right" and everyone at the bar heard her. Note: In the paper today for B cleanliness rating. Village Draft House (428 Daniels St., Raleigh) received a score of 83% on Dec. 30. The restaurant was in violation of 19 standards. Violations included finding an employee use bare hands to place fried chicken bites on a salad, multiple foods above 41 degrees in the flip-top cooler, buffalo chicken and spinach dip labeled Dec. 21 and Dec. 20 in the cooler, and the rear entrance door was gapped at the bottom, which could allow for insects and/or vermin. Met a friend for a late lunch/mid afternoon snack. There were scattered tables of folks outside under the covered porch, trying to keep out of the direct sunlight. Once we were seated by the host, a very nice waitress came to offer drinks or food, but I'd not been there in years and my friend had never been. We were chatting and it was three visits before we finally decided on drinks and food - margs and a small plate of wings. They offer their wings without sauce, and let you order a sauce on the side, which I have found to be better than pre-sauced. If you don't like the sauce, just don't dip the next one and eat it "au naturale!" The drinks were not too strong, but not without a kick. I wish I didn't have to drive an hour back home in rush hour, or I'd have had a second! The place is typical sports bar (TVs everywhere, but thankfully, places like this have seen the value of closed captioning, rather than blasting the irritating chatter that is sports broadcasting! A nice soundtrack replaced the blare of sports ball talk! Yea! They have an extensive beer list (several dozen taps, it looked like!) but it was too hot out to get bogged down with a beer. Shaded patio seating, quick service, and the sweet tea isn't overwhelmingly sweet. This was the right choice for us today, just before everything got a little crowded from lunch rush. Hot honey chicken sandwich is a generous portion but boy is it a sticky-delicious mess! Cucumber/tomato/feta side was refreshing, too. Grilled chicken bacon ranch with okra to my left received a tasty report, thought it actually looked a bit messier due to all the ranch! We enjoyed ourselves for sure! My daughter chose where we would have dinner on a beautiful Friday evening while we had our favorite toddler in tow. We have been before, but it was the first time with a little one. It was still early in the evening, so we were able to be seated right away. We were seated at a booth in the back. There were high chairs, but we didn't need one. They also have a kids menu that comes with crayons and activities on the menu, like tic tac toe and coloring. Savannah was our server and she was great. Very friendly, very knowledgeable and helpful. It was so hard to choose because we were both starving. We ordered the chicken bites as an appetizer. They were really good. My daughter decided to mix one of the sauces, the draft house sauce and the garlic, soooo good! They make their ranch in house, which was a bonus. We ordered the half pound size with 2 flavor options. We also had the mild. For our meals, I ordered the Smoke Stack Burger because I now have a small obsession for burgers with bbq sauce and bacon. The burger was prepared exactly how I ordered it and so delicious and fresh. It was absolutely perfect. I had tater tot's on the side. They were good, just tater tots, nothing special about them. My daughter ordered the Gouda Steak sandwich, which sounds amazing on the menu, but was just ok. They forgot to put half of the ingredients on the sandwich and it's served on what seems like just toasted white bread, and not grilled sourdough. My daughter had to add salt and pepper. Her side was onion rings, and might I say they were the best onion rings I've had in a long time. For the little one, we ordered the chicken bites with tater tots. The Village Draft House in Raleigh NC is doing a lot of things right. I will start with the obvious, the bar... they have 100 taps! I didn't count them, but I take their word for it. The taps go down the very long bar. I was in love. Besides the beer, they have a full bar, wine and bottled beer. If you are a craft beer lover you will definitely not be out of options here. The inside is large, a long bar and plenty of both seating as well as a food size outside patio area. There are high ceilings and they play the music up so keep that in mind if you plan to dine inside. This would be a great shot for happy hour. They are electronic friendly which is a huge plus. Two things they do well on this front is: 1) they have USB ports directly under the bar to charge hour electric device 2) their wifi is hassle free no passwords or any elaborate information, you just click on it in your browser and you are in. Onto the service which was great. I got there when they opened on Sunday at 11. By noon the patio was packed and the inside was half full. My server was Amanda and she was great. And what a beautiful smile. She seemed to really like her job and she was great with the other patron. As far as food, I only had the Gochujang Cauliflower which is a batter cauliflower deep fried in a sweet and spicy sauce. It came with ranch dressing for dipping. The sauce was a little too sweet for me so I asked for buffalo sauce which made them taste wonderful. Next time I come I will ask for them naked with buffalo sauce and blue cheese on the side. They have an extensive menu which brings me to believe that can't be making everything fresh everyday. I could be wrong, but they have burgers, sandwiches, entrees and even a kids menu. And the food menu seems to be as extensive as the draft menu. There are literally lots of pub food options. The venue is not 5 stars, but the service, beer options and electronics friendly environment definitely are. I will be returning next time I am in Raleigh, even if it is just for a beer or two. Never in my life have I written a google review, but I feel like I'd be doing a disservice to the community if I didn't. Some of the worst food I've ever had. To start the night off, we waited at least 15 minutes to receive any service. I myself am a server so I give a lot of grace, but this was just unacceptable. I can look past the bad service because everyone has bad days, but what I can't look past is the sorry excuse for food that my date and I were served. We ordered an appetizer of "beer cheese nachos" and what we received was appalling. We were given a plate with what looked like generic grocery store chips, cold queso out of a jar, a few shreds of lettuce, a dollop of sour cream, and last but not least, chunks of chicken that were unmistakably out of a can. Truly, it looked like a 4th grader made it. Mind you, it was 14 bucks. Next came the entrees. My date got a burger, which looked like it had barely been acquainted by the grill. I got a quesadilla, which again contained chewy, canned chicken. The fries were the most edible thing on the table, however, were not fully cooked and just mid. This meal cost 50 bucks that we'll never get back, and honestly I'm sick even thinking about it. Only reason for the 4 star was the service. It was pretty busy, so that might have been the reason service was the way it was, but I'm not completely positive. We were seated outside. It took about 10 minutes before our waitress came by. Not a big deal since we were sitting around talking. We all ordered a drink, one of my friends was unsure and took a little longer to decide but did confirm with the waitress what she wanted. Waitress brought our drinks back and was missing my friends, where she confirmed for a second time what she wanted to drink. She did bring the drink out to her quick tough. We then ordered our meals. 2 of the mac and cheese specials (one with side salad), the burger special called the Little Piggy, steak tacos and the melt special. When the food arrived, the tacos were missing and there was an extra side of mac and cheese. The tavos were quickly rectified but undercooked. It was very rare but my boyfriend at it anyways. Other than a few hiccups, all was good. The weekly mac and cheese was pretty delicious. The onion rings on top and bbq were perfect with the mac and cheese. Yum!!! What a cool place! Came on a Wednesday for lunch and the place was busy. We were glad to get one of the last 4 tops and by the window at a high top. Our server was on point. A few of us enjoyed one of the local Amber Ales - super refreshing on a hot afternoon. We shared the roasted Cauliflower appetizer. It was a good size for four people and very tasty. Our friends had the Reuben and said they were great. My husband had the meatloaf sandwich and loved every bite. Unfortunately the tomato cucumber salad was mushy. What a disappointment, I remember coming here 10+ years ago and enjoying it, but today 7 of us ducked in because where we were going to eels was packed. The positive was they were able to seat us. The food- was lukewarm to say the least. My sons Buffaloo style hamburger, they forgot to put the buffalo sauce was so dry according to Hong he ate 1/3 of it and barely touched his coldfries. When a 14yo is like this he's sick or the food is bad. (He wasn't sick). 2 of us tried our sides of Mac &cheese and told the waiters hi ow cool they were - she grabbed them both and informed us she would have them reheated and would remember bee whose belonged to who. (That's got to be health violation) The people who got the pretzels said they were good but when a party of leaves and the general thought was no one enjoyed the food - you know it's not worth going back. My family and I have always had a great experience at Village Draft House - food and service both! however today we came in to the restaurant and were informed that their kitchen was closing soon so they cannot seat us? They suggested we get it to-go which was fine with us but clearly your kitchen is open to accommodate our to go orders and as we wait for our food we see more food come out for at least 10 other customers still seated here...? Not happy with this experience at all since my family looks forward to dining at this restaurant whenever they are in town! Village Draft House is located in the always nice to look at, always inconvenient to reach Cameron Village. You know you're at the right bar when the drink menu is bigger than the food menu. Village Draft House features an absolutely immense selection of beers. Their drink menu gives you descriptions of all of these beers. For fellow root beer fans, Village Draft House has root beer on tap. Note that you are only given one refill on this root beer which may or may not be the fault of a certain Asian dude who Yelps. For food selections, pick any of their equally appealing sandwiches, and you won't be disappointed. The only thing greater than their sandwiches is their seasoned fries. It might be downright sacrilegious to say, but I would put these fries on the same level as Chuck's. I have never been disappointed by any of my visits to the Draft House. For a place to watch the game, hang out, or eat a nice meal, Village Draft House is one of the best choices that there is. Because a lot of the Triangle closes down by 9:30, any thoughts of good food past this hour should begin with Village Draft House. read more
