Smoke on the water

Great lunch stop in downtown Raleigh! They have a huge beer selection, amazing beers on draft and even a couple cocktails too! The sandwiches were soo good. We sat outside, The tables all have QR codes to order at your table, at your own pace, you don't interact much with the staff. But still a Great little spot downtown for a quick bite to eat and drink!

The sandwiches here are ODEE fire. Let me tell you a lil bit about the Caprese Sandwich--served hot, it's a literal 12/10. OMG. It was a taste straight from heaven. Beautifully made with house-made pesto, heirloom tomato, fresh mozzarella, balsamic reduction, and La Farm focaccia. Every bite was perfect. Pair it with their pasta salad on the side, and you've got yourself a next-level meal, ready for anytime time of the day. It was so good I wanted to order more, but I was stuffed from just one sammy. The ambiance is great too--there's a cozy little fireplace outside that gives the place a very homey vibe. The staff is super nice and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. Plus, they've got a foosball table in the back for some added fun. Definitely a chill, nice vibe type of spot. Would 100% recommend and will definitely be coming back!

State of Beer has such a variety of both beer and wine for purchase. We stopped by after church on a Sunday evening and sat outside - there is PLENTY of seating. You can buy wine by the glass or beer on tap. They do not serve dinner, but have some light bites (pimento cheese plate and hummus plate) to snack on in the evenings. I heard they have some pretty good sandwiches during the day, so I will definitely be back to try! We got the hummus plate and it was plenty food for two people and only $10!!! The bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable. It's a cute little spot tucked in the middle of true downtown Raleigh and glenwood south - walkable from both locations.

This is one of my new favorites. Great beers on tap and the menu is simple but consistently solid. This place does not serve your average "bar food". It is a great place to go for a snack in the afternoon or a sandwich for lunch. They have an ample outside sitting area that's great for watching the hustle of DTR. We love the Adult Lunchable and the tin of tiny fishes.

We've been going to State of Beer for a while now and it wasn't initially a favorite spot for me. After the urging of my husband - for whom eating inside a bottle shop was a dream fulfilled, we kept going. And you know what? It's good. The food they serve is fresh, real food. The menu is mainly sandwiches and wraps served with sides such as chick peas, pasta salad, chips or fresh greens. The sandwiches are amazing. The charcuterie plate is one of the best around. Of course they serve Trophy beers along with others and since you are (as previously mentioned) sitting in a bottle shop, you can purchase beer or wine to enjoy there or take home. For non beer drinkers they do offer a red, white and rose on menu. There are also a lot of bottles of wine to peruse in the store. You won't find the typical selection. You will most likely a new favorite. Cold brews, kombucha and other non alcoholic beverages are also available. Definitely come during off peak times if you want to sit up at the bar, or hopefully the weather is good and you can sit outside on one of the many picnic tables. I love sitting inside to listen to whatever they've put on the record player and relax in the low lit bar area. Staff is friendly, bathrooms are mostly clean, parking can be semi difficult.

Pretty cool beer place on the northern end of downtown that I passed when walking back to my hotel. They had a few beers on draft with a list you can either scan a barcode or see at the bar. They also have a LOT of cans from which to choose as well. The prices on the cans that were marked (some were not which is a pet peeve) seemed pretty high for a single beer or multipack, so I ended up just getting a wheat draft from Trophy which I enjoyed very much. They gave me a sample first which was nice as well. Staff was friendly! Outdoor seating was nice too. This was a beer only visit as I think the kitchen was closed.

Hot Sicilian Sandwich with pasta salad side

Had the hot Sicilian Sandwich with a side of pasta salad. No drinks. The sandwich was delicious. Bread was toasted and buttery, great mix of cheese and meat. Pasta salad had a mustardy dressing that I enjoyed. Service was friendly, but there was a long wait. Only downside I found was the wait. Significant selection available for beer and wine.

I didn't even know they expanded.

I had no idea that State of Beer expanded earlier this year into the space next door. This provides more room to put beer to purchase for home and for indoor seating (seating is not available at the bar during COVID-19). A few of my favorite sandwiches are the apple & brie, jive turkey club, sweet home alabama and turkey pesto and sides are the pasta salad and mixed green salad. This place is a must visit.

Super good atmosphere! Was a perfect stop after walking around the city for a while! Will definitely recommend to friends!

Great beer! Also had the humus, which for one is a meal in itself. And they provide plenty of crackers and veggies, which is a plus.

It was so hard to pick favorites because they were all so good. Literally every time we tried something new, we were like this is my favorite It was a hard decision but a decision that my husband and I agreed on, which doesn't always happen!! We only ranked the sandwiches Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on a Roll Reuben Chicken Parm I've been talking to my husband about his bodega order from NY! I've been hearing about this darn bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll for a while and been wondering how good could it be but after trying it here, I must try one in NY Reuben was sooooo good too! Sauerkraut + Russian dressing combo was insane. I loved this so much! I will most likely get this one 90% time that I go here! My husband looooves chicken parm and I'm usually not the biggest fan because of the way other places cook the chicken but I really liked it here! Chicken was suuuper crispy and didn't get soggy. Highly recommend!

We showed up early with our 1.5 year old daughter and they were able to seat us immediately. The area felt spacious, although that could be due to the fact that it wasn't super packed inside. I ordered the short rib benedict, my husband got the chicken & waffle sandwich, and we ordered my daughter a side of the mac & cheese. What a delicious meal! The short rib was tender and flavorful, and sat on top of a biscuit (what's not to love here?!) - horseradish hollandaise was the perfect touch as the horseradish pairs nicely with the beef. The chicken & waffle sandwich was the best guilty pleasure! Waffle crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, chicken breaded and fried with a nice crunch, and a nice hot honey syrup to go alongside -- wish this had a little more heat. To our surprise, the mac & cheese side was a highlight too! It's hard to get a good mac n cheese, but this had such a rich, white cheese, slight funk flavor - delicious. Brunch at Parkside is delicious. Looking forward to trying dinner here soon.

We came in today with reasonable expectations after finding the restaurant online and seeing mostly positive reviews. We ordered several items to share as a family: broccoli cheddar soup, a French dip sandwich with green beans, and poutine fries. Unfortunately, the broccoli cheddar soup was very bland and lacked seasoning. We had a few bites and ended up leaving the rest. The French dip was the standout of the meal. While the meat itself was a bit dry, dipping it in the au jus made it the most enjoyable and edible item we ordered. The poutine fries were disappointing. They were very basic and didn't resemble what I would expect from poutine--more like prepackaged frozen fries that had been deep-fried. We didn't finish them and left most behind, though we still paid for them. Our child wouldn't eat any of the food, so we ordered the fried ravioli appetizer, hoping it would be similar to versions we've had elsewhere. Sadly, that was another letdown. Although we were told there was no breading, the texture suggested otherwise. This was the one item we did send back. I wouldn't recommend this location for anyone with food allergies or sensitivities, as much of the food appears to be made from frozen or prepackaged items. That said, our server was absolutely wonderful--the highlight of the visit. She was kind, attentive, kept our drinks refilled, and genuinely made us feel welcome. Her sweet demeanor and constant smile were honestly the reason we didn't complain more at the time. While I wouldn't return for the food, I might consider stopping by again strictly for drinks during a sporting event. Otherwise, this just wasn't the dining experience we were hoping for.

We sat down in the dining room after finding menus. After deciding what we wanted, we got in line to place our order. The line moved somewhat slowly but after ordering, it did not take long for the food to come out. I had the Sam Jones Sandwich with potato salad and added a side of mac and cheese. My partner ordered the ribs with collard greens and fries. Everything we ordered was very good, and everyone at the table was happy with their meal. There were a couple of minor service details that could have been better. They put a roll of paper towels on the table, but ours was empty. I also noticed after the fact that our table had two bottles of the sweet BBQ sauce, while other tables appeared to have both the sweet sauce and a more vinegary BBQ sauce. That was a little disappointing because I really did not care for the sweet sauce and wish I had known there was another option before I had already eaten most of my sandwich. Those were small issues, though. Overall, the food was excellent, the experience was enjoyable, and I would definitely go back.

By the time we were there on a Sunday evening, they had run out a lot of things, which makes sense since it is all fresh. I ended up getting a bbq chicken BLT sandwich with their mac & cheese, and it was all good. But it didn't stand out to me compared to the other bbq places we have in the Triangle. I would say if you're in the area and craving bbq, this is a good option.
