    Tenderloin sandwich
    Allan A.

What a wonderful discovery. My beef tenderloin sandwich was tender, cooked to perfection, and tasty. The onion rings which accompanied this dish were fried to golden perfection. The service was attentive. This appears to be a local place and is bar food at its best.

We ordered take out. It is fairly small and was packed. I had the huge blackened tenderloin steak,$18.00. It was cooked as I had ordered, medium rare. It was excellent. Wife had the shrimp poboy, $12. It had plenty of moist and tasty shrimp. We definitely will return.

Stopped here at the last minute - never even heard of this place, thought it looked like a good local place. We walked in and were a bit surprised at how small the place is - maybe 12 tables? That's not a problem, two things that we didn't like were the noise level (not recommended for a date) abc the spaces between the tables were ridiculously tight. Getting up to go to the bathroom was kind of uncomfortable, squeezing behind strangers to move about. Even our waitress had to turn sideways and she commented on how narrow it was for her... Onto the food, we both ordered the grilled shrimp. A dozen shrimp with two sides were $16 each. The shrimp were okay, nothing to be wowed by. The Mediterranean veggies were gross. I had a few of the mushrooms, that's all. Side salad was average, ranch was ok. My husband liked his onion rings a lot. Overall, just not that great a meal. It was average, hence the 3/5. A bit too loud and very cramped. Our server, however, was very sweet and attentive. Hard for her to shine in a squished, loud environment with just meh food. Think this is a one and done for us. Bill was $35 plus tip.

My husband and I decided to have a low key Valentine's and decided on this place to go to. It was perfect, it was so cute and they had a great variety of food. The prices were great, and our waitress was so friendly and always filling up our waters and checking on us. Our food came out super quick and everything was delicious! We will definitely be back!

River Chicken and Cheese Sandwich with onion rings

So I'm not really sure how I've been living so close to this place for 13 years and never thought about visiting! Well, thanks to quarantine I had the opportunity to try this local gem hidden in a shopping plaza I visit often. River Pub is in the same plaza as Food Lion and Ace Hardware in North Raleigh. I decided to place my order over the phone and pick up a couple of weeks ago. Placing the order and picking up we're both a breeze. When I got home I opened my deliciousness. I ordered a Shrimp Po boy with house made fries. It was sooo good. Shrimp cooked perfectly and sandwich very well made. Fries were very tasty! A bit on the greasy side much but nothing a little pat of a paper towel can't take care of . I seriously enjoyed it so much that we decided to revisit the following week. This time enjoying the River chicken and cheese and the Ham and Swiss on a Kaiser roll. One with a side of tots (so good-nice crunch and so full of flavor)the other with onion rings. Again, slam dunk! The chicken and cheese had plenty of everything and so cheesy! The ham and Swiss was great too just a little too much ham for my taste. All around this place is excellent and I can't wait till this quarantine is over so I can revisit this place and stay to enjoy the food.

Yummy Chili Nachos with Chili on side so chips don't get soggy!
    Lori R.

Been here a couple times in the last couple weeks. Once we were in the mood for nachos so we stopped in. At our smart Server's suggestion we got the chili on the side for dipping so that the chips didn't get soggy. Very yummy! Wine-wise they have just one chardonnay and it is okay. Husband goes for beer. They don't have a whole lot on tap, but he can find one he likes. Next time we were hungry for a real meal. Husband got the Tenderloin Sandwich with sauteed onions and mushrooms with melted provolone and au jus with his beloved Tater Tots. He was super happy with all of this except for the au jus which had no flavor. Fortunately he didn't feel like it was needed anyway. Trying to be healthier, (hah!) I opted for the Grilled Shrimp with my choice of two sides: Mediterranean Veggies and a Side Salad with Balsamic (minus croutons). I am a saucy gal so requested both tartar and cocktail sauces. Request granted. The shrimp was cooked okay. But both sauces were lifeless and fairly tasteless...wah! I had our Server bring a really nice hot sauce, which did help a lot. The cooked veggies were full of mushrooms which is just not my thing (my fault, should have asked). Husband was happy to oblige putting me out of my fungus misery. And I was able to eat around them. Even my salad was sadly disappointing, as the balsamic didn't taste like a fresh one. (come on River Pub...buy a good olive oil, a good balsamic, add an herb or two, salt & pepper and happiness ensues! Same with cocktail sauce...horseradish, ketchup, lemon juice. And tartar needs some flavoring besides mayo and a little relish...just sayin'!) So, I won't be ordering that again. Especially considering it was $17. That's what I get for trying to be healthy. Served me right. They do apps & sandwiches much better here. Stick with that! (note to self) TIP: Thursday is half price bottle-wine night. Best part of this place? The Servers! These gals have made every experience we've ever had here totally enjoyable.

I dropped by one afternoon to check out this new pub in North Raleigh and I was delighted to find…read morehow cozy it was and how hospitable and sweet the owners, Kevin and Stephanie, are. The decor in The Winchester Pub is unique in the fact that they don't have all the stereotypical, tacky beer signage that others have and the bar is completely handmade by Kevin himself (it's gorgeous). Their selection of beers on tap is primo -- you won't see any of the over-served blah beers of other bars. Instead, you'll find a finely curated selection that boasts a variety of tastes. If you're not into beer, there are also a few bottles of wine you can choose to have a glass of. There's a small selection of canned brews you can purchase from the display case in the front of the pub, back of the pub, and in the refrigerated unit in the rear, as well as cider, spiked coffee malt beverages, alcoholic seltzers, and beer kegs. Surprisingly, there's even some bagged coffee! If you fancy bringing some pub merch home, there are branded mugs for sale. Above the bar, there are mounted TV screens, perfect for enjoying local sports games (especially European soccer matches on the weekends). Plenty of backed barstools surround the bar, and there's a line of round, leather-topped stools along the back wall. If stools aren't your cup of tea, there are two cozy leather couches you can lounge on: one in the front (by the entrance) and one in the back (next to a pool table)! If you're not craving any booze, there's a water cooler in the front of the pub and canned sodas in the fridge (Sprite and Coke). If you're feeling playful, there are couple of board games on the one of the beer display shelves by the entrance (beneath the framed red jersey). I'm more of a cider kind of girl, so Kevin suggested a fantastic, locally-owned cider out of Pittsboro, NC: "Chatham Cider Works Highway 64". It was sweet, light, bubbly, and strong, especially at 10% ABV (so, watch out!). My husband and I both sampled the "Fullsteam Igor Cake" Pastry Stout (9% ABV), which was super sweet. Hubby ended up ordering the "Casita Home Sweet Home" Imperial Stout (10% ABV), which had a cake-like flavor, was super smooth, and not too sweet. No foods are currently served here, but there are some snacks for sale behind the bar and you are more than welcome to bring in your own noms to accompany any drinks your order. From the cooler, I bought and tried: - Brown Bomber Mocha Hard Latte - flavored malt beverage (5% ABV) made with 100% Arabica coffee and milk. It's recommended to shake well and serve over ice. It was soooo creamy, chocolatey, and delicious -- you can't even tell that there is alcohol in it! - Brown Bomber Vanilla Hard Latte - same as the previous, but vanilla-flavored - Sound Craft Rosé Seltzer (5% ABV) - super smooth and tasting of freshly pressed blackberries, I could not tell that there was alcohol in it! If you're looking for a cozy spot to throw back a pint as you unwind from work, you've found the perfect place!

I saw one or two bar patrons eyeing me weirdly, like I was invading their home space. So I decided to just leave.
