My friend and I were grabbing drinks and decided to have dinner at Hibernian on a very cold Tuesday night. It's a good night to go as you can be seated right away. We sat in the bar area at a high booth and were waited on right away. We asked our server about what she recommended for the seasonal drinks as well as menu item suggestions, she was great! We both decided on cocktails from the seasonal menu, a martini and a sangria. We both decided on sandwiches. I had the Gaelic Club and it was really good and the fries were too. They make all their sauces in house and I wanted to drink the ranch. It's really spacious inside with lots of seating areas and a couple of bar areas as well. The whole place is dimly lit, it makes it cozy. There's even a fireplace in the front. I enjoyed my food and would go back to try other menu items. read more

We heard about the $8 burger special on Monday's so we came in to try it. The burgers are really good and you can make it your way and they offer many upgrades/add-ons that are worth it too. We enjoyed a beer as well. The whole restaurant is the feel of an old traditional large pub with the fireplace burning and folks sitting at the bar having a bunch of cross conversations amongst all the other patrons. Our server was friendly and nice but we felt a little ignored since he was engaged with those at the bar. Over all I would suggest you check it out especially on Monday. I stopped by for lunch while traveling and had 8 buffalo wings and two orders of fries--everything was pretty solid. The wings were just the right size--not too big or too small--and cooked perfectly with great flavor. The fries were tasty too; I just wish the portion was a little bigger. Four of us stopped in for dinner last week. I had dropped in a Guinness a few times over the previous months, though never to eat. I've always liked the ambiance, and it was still the same, the nice friendly Irish vibe, warm and welcoming. Service was attentive and friendly with no issues. We all had different entrees, myself the Bangers and mash, seen on lots of Anglo Saxon(!) menus, but I have ignored for decades. It was surprisingly good! Just wonderfully prepared and the chef sent out English mustard on the side, as requested. Others ate a salmon entree (tasty) and the fish and chips were great too. The staff was professional, friendly, and clearly loved what they do. Our servers, Rob and Jordan, were outstanding. Attentive, engaging, and full of personality. They made sure our experience was the best. The food is solid. The spicy chicken sandwich packed a nice kick, and the house pub burger with hearty steak fries hit the spot. We finished with the Guinness mousse, which was supreme. Their Super Bowl party on the horizon and what's sure to be an epic St. Patrick's Day celebration, we'll definitely be back to Hibernian. I like the atmosphere, with several hidden spaces, and two small bars kind of hidden away. It's almost like a maze. The ordered a half and half beer, though there seemed to be a good deal more Guinness than Harp lager. For my dinner, I tried the corned beef and cabbage. The beef was tender enough, it had a good amount of the creamy parsley sauce, which I mixed into the mashed potatoes. With the potatoes, they were ok flavor wise, but a little cool in temperature. Been to the downtown location many times. Always a good pour of Guinness and decent food. But this location? Utterly terrible. Was seated and waited five minutes just staring at our menu - two of us - but were only given one menu. After five minutes & no one came to at least take a drink order. OK maybe they're busy but why has that ginger server not even greeted us? Ten minutes. The ginger server who has all the other five tables in our section didn't even look in our direction once. She knew we were there but didn't even have the sense to ask us if we needed anything. Then hostess comes by after seating someone else and I flag her down and tell her it's been ten minutes and no one has come to our table yet. She scurries off and a server we've never seen before tells us she has 7 tables and scurries off as well. Over fifteen minutes and still no one has even come to ask us if we'd like a drink. So we just got up and walked out. Niall, any publican in Mayo or anywhere else in Ireland would be horrified. Irish pub in name only. You've lost your way and become too big for your britches. And your manager should be fired for not having sufficient staff on duty if the place is that busy. Justin at your downtown location basically runs a one man band on Monday nights and manages to provide top notch service all by himself. Put him in charge of this location I'm sure he could make the service better. But as it is run now? You and your manager there should both be ashamed. read more

Sue and her staff at The Hibernian recently hosted the reception for our wedding. It was incredible!! Working with Sue during the wedding planning stage was stress free and so easy! She was incredibly accommodating and offered suggestions on food selections and the best layout for the private room to accommodate our 50 guests. We had the private room and half of the outdoor patio for the evening. It was PERFECT! The bar in the private room is accessible inside and out and there is a door to pass through the two spaces. There are even bathrooms in the private space. The food was amazing, and with the guidance of Sue and the kitchen manager Johnny, we ordered just the right amount of food to accommodate our guests buffet style. Sue and her staff even placed our favors, a cake table, and a few other wedding related items out for us so all we had to do on our wedding day was show up and enjoy the party. The Hibernian staff had us make our plates first to ensure that we were able to eat on our wedding day. That was such a nice touch! We 10 out of 10 highly recommend hosting any private event at The Hibernian! I'm telling everyone that a restaurant wedding reception is absolutely the way to go!! Traditional wedding venues often charge extra for chairs, plates, linens, silverware, the list goes on and on! At The Hibernian we only had to pay for food and drinks. Perfect!! Went there relatively recently on a Thursday. The beer was good, the food not so much. The salads were pretty good, and two of us a fish and chips, which were good: the chips excellent, the fish (cod) well prepared, but could have used a bit more seasoning. My corned beef and cabbage are main reason for the 2 star rating: very fatty, stringy corned beef, cold mashed potatoes, a sauce that is just plain embarrassing and should not have been served, a portion of cabbage that was absurdly small. The Hibernian Restaurant is a good choice for Irish food. The pub is decorated nicely. On my last visit, we were put in a section that looked like tables were made from old sewing machines. It was neat and I liked that the section was away from everyone else in the restaurant so it was almost a private area for us. They offer Sunday brunch or you can order from the regular menu. I went with the fish & chips and chose the cod over the haddock. It was very good and flaky and the steak fries were chewy inside with a bit of a crisp outside. The group was not provided menus for everyone so we had to share. They had plenty of menus so that was just odd. Service was ok here, friendly but just did the basics of bringing the drinks and food and bills. No drink refills or checking on the table. read more

First time visiting after driving by it for years. Wanted something new and found it underwhelming and the staff blasé. Hostesses had smiles upon entering so they did what they needed to do. Our server was nice, but he wasn't very attentive. He had no idea we are exceptional tippers when the service is great. Ordered entrees on the menu that seemed generic enough to compare with other restaurants. Salmon was dry, cool and flavorless with cold butter and a lemon slice on top. Broccoli was supposed to be steamed but was practically still raw. Mashed potatoes were definitely from a box. It was edible for sure, but not something I will order again. I met a friend for lunch the other day and we had a delicious meal. I had the Reuben with fries. It came out piping hot, the bread was toasted to perfection, the ratio of corned beef to sauerkraut was spot on and the amount of Russian dressing on the side was perfect. The taste was great. I love this bar so much. My friends and I go often since it's located near us and it always has such a great atmosphere and is very cozy to me. I like that it's not crazy and packed- or at least I haven't been on a packed night yet. It's dark inside with light at the bar area and a great vibe. It's super clean and organized too. It's also quite big. There's an area with different board games that you can pull out and play with your friends which I thought was really cool. The food, staff, and drinks is also phenomenal! The staff is always so attentive, super friendly, and easy to talk to. The food is perfect and the kitchen is open late and their menu has a lot to offer so who doesn't good food after a late night of drinking. Over the last two years I have been setting up luncheons for groups of ladies and gentlemen who are seniors. We have on several occasions used Hibernian on Falls of Neuse for this purpose. I have found wait staff to be very friendly and corporative. I have found Edwin the manager to be one who goes one or two steps beyond to make sure my group is accommodated in comfort. I had a Reuben, which was okay, I feel it was lacking corned beef. Fries were not crispy but seasoned pretty well. I discovered that the ketchup on our table had seemingly spoiled and tasted sour, which was thoroughly disgusting. My girlfriend had one of each slider. The burger was decent to good, Reuben slider was fine, fish sandwich was delicious. The fried fish was easily the highlight of the meal. Overall would not recommend. Trying to watch my svelte figure I ordered the black bean burger (apparently they're made in house) and a side salad. The salad came out first and was your typical salad. The burger was pretty good! It was a giant patty and you could see the veggies that they'd mixed in with the black beans, so a good sign. I'd added grilled onions, tomato and lettuce to mine and got BBQ sauce on the side. They're also thoroughly involved in the community and supporting local sports. This particular locations seems to be a Steelers bar, if that does anything for you. We got the loaded bacon cheddar fries with ranch, fish and chips, and a cease salad. We've previously gotten the quesadilla. Everything is good. Heard the bartender tell another patron that he likes everything, and that he actually meant it. Fries are thick, steak cut, which I don't mind. Well fried and salted. Is this the best pub in the world? No. Is it the best pub in Raleigh? Maybe, but I do like places like London Bridge better.
