I had never been or heard of this place, HOWEVER I love the concept! So when you walk in - you are greeted by the cashier. They provide a bracelet and ask how much would you like to put on the bracelet? Once you pay, they load your bracelet with the funds and then you are free to drink! They have beer, cider, and wine - no liquor. They also DO NOT serve any type of food, but there are plenty of restaurants in very close proximity. If I am not mistaken, you are allowed to bring food in...Anyhow, you find the drink you want, scan your bracelet, and then fill you glass! Just that simple. Pour Taproom is a chain of bars which has a great concept - you pour your own beer and drink as much or as little as you want. You don't have to commit to a whole glass. This is a great way to sample multiple beers without drinking too much. My wife and I are familiar with this chain from its multiple locations in Atlanta (Pour is headquartered in Atlanta) and the self-serve beer concept in general from similar businesses like Pinhouse in Charlotte. They all use individually-assigned electronic wristbands to keep track of consumption. We're fans. At the time of writing this review, there are two Pour locations in North Carolina: Durham and Wilmington. This location opened in June 2017 on the ground level of Unscripted, a hotel that faces Durham's Main Square in the heart of downtown. This is a great location because there are many excellent restaurants, bars, and other places to go to within short walking distance. For example, I recommend The Parlour across the square for outstanding ice cream. I don't think this place has dedicated or validated parking. However, there's plenty of street, surface lot, and deck parking nearby. Metered parking is enforced Monday-Friday, 8am-7pm. At the time of writing this review, parking rates are $2.50/hour for street and $2.25/hour for lot/deck. We parked for free in Lot 32 at 111 W Chapel Hill St (free because it was a Saturday). We had a good time during our Saturday night visit. We were expecting this place to be busier than it was, especially since it was nice out. Pour has a sizable and enjoyable outdoor patio at this location. They did a really nice job with that. Lawn games included cornhole and big Connect Four. The inside was pleasant as well. The staff was really friendly, they had sports playing on the big screens, and the vibe was comfortable. I liked it because it wasn't crowded or loud. So, if you prefer more of a relaxed and relatively-quiet bar atmosphere, this is the place to be. There were many dozens of beers on tap plus a very limited selection of wine and cocktails. A lot of the beer was local/regional, which is what I think mainly sets the different Pour locations apart (menu). Drinks are individually priced. I enjoyed the Haw River Farmhouse Ales For Restful Death foeder-aged lager ($0.85/oz) and Fullsteam Brewery's Paycheck pilsner ($0.55/oz), both local. My wife's favorite beer was the Lindemans Framboise Raspberry Lambic Beer. She didn't like the cocktails (cosmopolitan, margarita) nor the wines that she got. Our friend tried the old fashioned and described it as "interesting" and about what you'd expect from old fashioned on tap. The self-rinsing mechanisms don't seem very sanitary, but more power to you if you use them. Pour in Durham partnered with local restaurant Lula and Sadie's for food. A group near us ordered a Tasting Board ($7.00) and it looked good. Four instead of a five because after my first pour, I noticed some odd brown stuff covering half my glass...the waitress was nice enough to deduct those ounces from my total but it was a little gross since it could have been on other glasses, too. The concept of pour is really neat, you can try as many different beers, ciders, and wines as you want as long as you stay under the allotted total--I think the cutoff is around 32 for beer and 25 for wine, which is reasonable. My friend got a charcuterie board for less than $10 and it had a lot of good things on it (I don't know anywhere else you can get a good one for that cheap). I had the toasted turkey sandwich and it was good and pretty large---loved that it came with brie, considering it is my favorite cheese. For the quality of beers and wines offered, it is pretty cheap and it's nice that you can try any of them before buying a whole glass of something you don't like. Fun place to hang out! You will find this downtown near the 21c, next to Jack Tar where the new Unscripted hotel is. We had a rare Friday off work, and decided to get us each a wristband and try as much or as little as we wanted to. I will say that I didn't think the wine descriptions necessarily matched with how they tasted, but that's the joy of being able to try small amounts. They have a few games too. So we sipped our way through a rousing couple rounds of Battleship. Yes, Husband got me both games, but we had fun and he didn't gloat too much. Now, I will say that neither one of us was paying too much attention to how much we were spending, so it was a nice surprise to discover that our bill was half of what it would have cost for one drink at the 21c where we were staying. If you're seeing a Sunday evening show at the DPAC, this is a great place to go for drinks after because it's walking distance and many other things in downtown Durham will be closed. When you come into this establishment expect to receive a welcoming greeting by staff. They'll ask for a credit card and will issue you a wristband to use for drinks. You can then scan your wristband at any of the wine, beer, cider, or sour stations and you'll be charged by the oz for as much as you choose to drink. There's a wide selection of options and I found multiple ciders that I liked. They have music playing and there are a number road board games available for customers to play their group. We were able to reserve two tables & the staff was very helpful and accommodating. Everyone else arrived around 5, and it definitely got busy around then. You give them your card at the register, they give you a bracelet, and you get to pour your wines (they have wine, which made my day), and beer from the taps on the wall. You're charged by the ounce. They have a huge variety of beers & ciders, and actually a FEW different wines I liked. I went with one of the Sauvignon Blancs and it was really good! I love taprooms and breweries that not only offer wine, but GOOD wine! They have an abundance of games to play as well stacked up in the corner, that was great! We didn't play any last night but next time, for sure. The food was pretty good. They have menus on the table, you go up and give them your order, and it is pretty quickly brought out. I do wish the menu was a bit more extensive, but it's understood since it's a taproom. My colleague ordered the nachos (they weren't bad but weren't great), and I ordered the grilled cheese. 4 stars because of the super sweet hostesses & the great selection of beers. Stopped in the other day with a friend. There were maybe 3 other small groups so it wasn't busy at all. The hostesses walked us through the process - give a card to open a tab on, you get a wrist band, and then off you go to try. I'm not a huge fan of beer but with pour taproom you get to pour as little or as much as you want - even if it's only a little sip! This allowed me to sample about 10 different beers as well as the few wines they had. (The sangria was really good too!) plus they have a separate tap for water #stayhydrated, as well as little sprinklers underneath the tap to wash out your glass after each sample. Now, the only part that sucked was the food. They had a beef quesadilla w/ chips special for $9 so I got it while my friend decided to try the beef gouda melt. When my food came out I thought they forgot the other half of the quesadilla. Imagine a taco shell with a circumstance equal to that of your palm that was cut in half, served with a large handful of wavy lays potato chips. The taste was alright but man, leave out the chips next time and just give me a regular sized quesadilla. My friend's beef gouda melt wasn't bad either but there were wayyyyyy too many pickled onions in it that it killed the taste. Next time we know to come here & only get drunchies food haha. The food, however, is still lacking. The Tasting Board comes with a warm baguette, fruit,and olive oil. This past Friday, the baguette was cold and stale, the fruit was a tiny cup of green grapes, and no olive oil. We added cheese, salami, and olives, for a total of $8. We were hungry, and the line got long, so we didn't have a chance to address this with the staff. To be fair, I compare all 'pour-your-own taprooms to my favorite - Barrel Republic in Carlsbad, CA, with 68 taps, and a complete menu. Pour Taproom has a great concept for beer & wine places! I can never drink more than one beer or two since they're so filling, but Pour's set up allows you to try as many as you want out of their large selection. You first start a tab with your card and get your card linked to a red bracelet. Then, you walk around and just tap your bracelet to the taps to pour yourself any beer you'd like. I also appreciated the attention to detail with the different glass offerings depending on the beer you go with. It's also fun to get the experience of running the tap yourself and getting the hang of producing optimal foam output on top! Each selection is labeled with a fancy touch screen monitor that lets you see the label with brewery and flavor. It also displays a helpful description, ABV, and price. There's even a wine selection too so you don't have to choose between wine and beer. Of course, it's pricier than your average bar, but that's expected since you're paying for the experience and the opportunity to try a larger variety. I really appreciate their ciders/sours/fruity offerings - they even had one of my favorite lambics on tap. I just wish they had more on tap since some of these were pretty big labels that I had already tried and I would like the experience to try something new - after all, that's the whole reason to go to a place like this that lets you buy by the ounce. I've only been here once, so I don't know how often they rotate the offerings, but I hope they change it up often so I can try out more varieties. read more

The store is much smaller than the Pour in Greenville with only a couple tables inside and on the patio but very open, clean, modern, and relaxing. Glasses and taps were clean, all monitors in working condition with all the info you desire about the drink, price, ABV, names, details. A Spanish girl with glasses was knowledgeable and welcoming and open to answer all the questions we had since it's new to us (the self tap). They give you a bracelet once you give them your ID and credit card. The bracelet is the scanner for the taps you'd wanna try. They also have wine on tap. We ended up buying a "Crowler" which was a great touch for only $15 I believe. We also ordered grilled cheese which I thought was so good. Our check came out to about $40.00 for 2 people without the Crowler. I just abs loved it here. I'm def gonna try to stop by before heading back home to NY. read more

Love the idea of this place! I usually want to try as many beers as possible when Im somewhere new. Now only does this allow me to do that, but I can control how much I have! They have an interesting selection of mass produced craft beers, local stuff, and European imports. I like how they sort the beers from light to dark in flavor. I went from the left side of the room and finished off at the right. Pouring your beer the right way truly helps you from just getting foam, even if its just a 0.5 ounce pour. I noticed the area is a bit small, but I cant expect these places to be built like a warehouse. The beef Gouda melt doesn't look impressive, but the flavor is. Beefy, cheesy, sweet from the onions, buttery from the pressed bread, with this vinegar taste that encapsulates everything. It's what I wanted, and a little more, since it doesn't look great.  The idea of this place alone is awesome. But their selection made it even better. If you have a chance to kill some time here, do it. read more
