Their service was fast and they have a way where if you go online ahead of time, you can put your order in for pick up! They have lots of outdoor and indoor seating perfect area for the summer time. They have a large backyard that spends W. I've been a long time patron of Bull McCabes. I appreciate the willingness to explore new menus and offerings. The new kitchen set up is a big time miss. While the food is flavorful, it's a cumbersome process AND the food itself misses the mark for what the venue offers. Kitchen needs to be in house, not a separate entity, if not for anything else other than accountability. If I have an issue with my food and I'm sitting at the bar, the bar tender can't truly address my concern. Additionally, the menu is significantly overpriced for what they offer... It has been a while since my last visit to Bull McCabe's, but we decided to come back because they can easily accommodate a larger group--especially with their huge outdoor space. One thing to note is that they use separate QR codes for the drink and food menus, which felt a bit clunky. The beer selection was just okay this time around; I ended up going with a Bell's Two Hearted IPA. As for the food, I was a bit disappointed with their newer concept, TanDurm Kitchen. It's described as a mix of International street food and Irish classics, but the Irish options felt pretty limited. I ordered the beef samosas and the fried chicken katsu sandwich, while my husband had the chicken philly with fries. Everything was decent, but nothing really stood out--I was hoping for more traditional Irish fare. Lots of nice outdoor space to just seat yourself. They have 2 different QR codes on the tables - one for drinks and one for food. Slightly annoying to have to keep track of 2 open tabs, but I'm sure it's because it's 2 businesses operating there. Service was fast for both food and drinks even with it being fairly busy on a warm Friday evening. I enjoyed my apricot peach sour and snakebite beer. My paneer naan-mi was good and the fries were excellent! What I didn't entirely love is that they were giving out disposable packaged utensils and small ketchups in plastic cups - it just makes a lot of waste, and on a windy evening trash is just ending up on the ground. read more

Always a great adventure, this was for lunch during a conference at the Durham Conference center a few blocks away. Sat at the bar, perused the menu and settled on the smash burger and fries. Basic was fine, but I added bacon and cheese. The runner brought catsup and napkins and stuff, and asked my choice of dipping sauce. I got the blue cheese, which did double duty on the burger as well as the fries. It was all amazing. Crispy fries with hot soft insides, this crusty smashburger with all the fixin's - paired well the the IPA I was sipping. The bartender and I and one other patron had fun conversation around wacky political issues, economics, and the state of living in the south in 2025. Turns out, the patron and I frequent similar places, so we swapped contact info. Great mid-afternoon visit, I'd say. Previous reviews have talked about the repurposed church pews and lighting and the table service, but I usually sit at the bar, with my back to the big street view window. This was our first stop back with the new name and menu. Disappointed is an understatement. The food lacked flavor, this was based off three dishes, the wings, falafel/hummus, and paneer flatbread. The ranch used to taste house made and the wings were delicious, this has changed. No silverware or napkins were even dropped off with the food. When I asked the server she pointed to the other side of the room as to where I could find them. The friendly pub atmosphere wasn't there, and the flavorful food wasn't there either. Ugh I so wanted to like the new Tandurm concept, but it was just disappointing. Despite the kitchen and bar smelling delightfully of curry, none of that flavor translated to the food. In fact, the best thing by far was the side of fries. You can't order food at the bar with your drinks but are instead directed to a QR code and then pick up your food at a window along with a handful of napkins. With a name like Viceroy behind the food (and especially the price point), I would have expected something that was more flavorful and texturally appealing than what we received. Honestly, the Naan Mi was just gross and I only ate one bite. There are any number of Indian places downtown where you can have much better food and plenty of bars where you can have a beer. Probably the only time I'll be back is for World Cup games, but if I can find them on elsewhere, I'll likely do that instead. Amir made my night!! I truly have NEVER felt safer and less of an inconvenience than I did at this bar with Amir. He was more than happy to keep an eye on me (he even does so passively before you ask) while my friend went to pull up the car. We went in before a show and thought we would try this out. The service is non-existent. There is no hostess, no waitresses. You seat yourself, order on an app. Food comes out. We had to get our own drinks at the bar. The food was mediocre, and they didn't follow the order from the app correctly. I really liked the book cases, thought they were cool. Until I started looking around and seeing everything is dirty. Floor, bookcases, table, light fixtures. Place has great, cold beer. That's all they have going really. The food is not good whatsoever. You order on your phone and it takes forever to get to you and no one comes by to check on you. If you arrive into Durham so late that all the restaurants downtown are closed, head to Bull McCabe's Irish Pub. There are always people around - sprawled on the lawn, smoking on the outdoor tables, or cosily huddled inside at the bar. So that's where I found myself close to midnight on a recent work trip. The bar area was packed, so I placed my order and sat at a booth, a little brain-dead after a long flight from the Bay Area on which I had worked for five straight hours. Looking up, I noticed that the ceiling was decorated with soccer jerseys from all over the world. How unusual! A spot opened up near the bar, so I moved, contentedly listening to conversations about Duke vs. North Carolina basketball, the insane prices of local real estate, and the state of crime in South Africa! My perfectly poured Guinness arrived, then my spicy buffalo wings - a combo made in heaven, I reflected, and quite calorie friendly compared to other options on the menu. Service was friendly, and prices were too. Now I know where to go next time I land in Durham close to midnight - Bull McCabe's Irish Pub, where soccer jerseys adorn the ceiling, the Guinness is served correctly, and conversations flow. read more

This establishment was a colossal disappointment. My friends bought tickets for a pub crawl they were hosting. Turns out the whole thing was a scam. We asked the manager and she said she had no idea yet they promoted the event with flyers in the bar. They should refund the drinks we purchased since those should have been no charge (you got 3 drinks as part of the fake tickets) and they should hire a manager capable of resolving issues. If you like fruity beers, I'd recommend the grapefruit and blood orange one. Food: We tried the loaded tater tots, which was cheese on top of a variety of meat (turkey? some bacon? maybe slices of beef?) on top of the tater tots. Space: The indoor area is rather dark and cramped, so I'd recommend sitting outdoors. They have a large grassy lawn that is family friendly. Parking: A bit of a hassle. They don't have any dedicated parking or garages that are super close, so you can either find street parking or park in one of the garages and walk. read more

Bull McCabe's is almost two kinds of places -- a dark and cluttered Irish pub indoors and a wide open space outdoors on the patio and lawn. On our recent visit, we just ordered beers from the bar and then found a table outside to sit. Note: they used to allow dogs but don't anymore due to liability issues (I'm guessing there was an incident). The outdoor space attracts a diverse crowd of young and old, straight and gay, and different races. The tables also have QR codes for you to place food and drink orders and a server will bring it to your table. All in all, a very friendly place with pleasant staff and a relaxed vibe. This is a great venue if you want to throw an event for a large group in Downtown Durham. I attended a Duke graduation happy hour here and it was a good location being just a few minutes drive from campus. Ubers can also find the place pretty easily as well. The deck serves as a solid spot for appetizers and food with the bar set up well for any outdoor event. Beer, wine, cupcakes, pigs-in-blankets, fries...simple, but good tasting for a Southern spot experience! I have been to Bull McCabe a few times over the years, and found the food to be decent, but last week on a whim I went with a friend during Trivia Night and couldn't believe the experience - and not in a good way. Whoever was hosting/DJ-ing the event was loud, crass, obnoxious, and - a word I seldom use - vulgar. He made repeated references to oral and anal sex, sprinkled his questions with obscene asides and taunted (a calm and apparently forgiving crowd) with reminders that he was paid money to do what he was doing and if they didn't like it, well, again, you can imagine. I am not sure why Bull McCabe's permits or encourages this - I found it outright disgusting and after a round or two (eating as quickly as we could) we realized that he was not going to calm down, grown up, or quiet down, we left - all I can imagine is that he is a owner, a part owner, a son of the owner or someone who really just doesn't care for or need a job - I looked around at the crowd and didn't notice anyone else being particularly pleased, either. Any explanations for this? The entire experience made we want to just go home and take a shower. Never again. read more

Pub burger was definitely delicious, 4 stars. The service: The server weren't attentive. It was hard to get their attention. When I asked a server for a straw she never came back with a straw so I asked someone else, no straws. I ended up getting up and grabbing one from the bar area. They took our drink orders and took a really long time to come back with the drinks. We had to go look for our server to tell her our table wants to order some food. The only explanation I can come up with is that because it's a bar maybe they thought we only wanted drinks? We clearly requested food menus for all around when we sat down though.
