This place is a dive bar. If you come in here expecting to get a glass of wine, I would recommend getting a beer. They have 2 options for wine-red or white. It seems like they have a large cocktail list as well. I asked the bartended if they had any games and he brought me to a shelving unit that had several. Very cool. 106 Main is a funky and cool bar to grab a drink prior to or after a show at DPAC. It's a bit eclectic and hipster like most of downtown Durham is. They have an extensive cocktail, beer and wine list and pretty much can make whatever you'd like. I saw that they had a nice selection of bourbons on the shelf and they offer seasonal cocktail choices. Definitely check it when in Durham. read more

Let me show this place some love, right down the street from Luna's and Bar virgile i knew this place was a bar/dive with some TV's. I needed to catch a game, i ordered an old fashioned which was well made. They also had complimentary cheese, nachos and beef chilli i believe. Good place for a great cocktail and some cheap beer. I've been wanting to try this place out for a while now but never jumped around in the area. When walking up to it and walking in it's divey with the walls being mirrors, but the cocktail list has some kick ass cocktails. Their liquor selection is along the whole back wall at the bar. If you can't find anything you like, you may have a problem. They don't have he. Easy or Red Bull, but really other than that, they have it all! They had hotdogs and chips out for anyone who wanted to grab a bite to eat which was great for us! We grabbed some chips since we were pretty hungry but wanted to start with a cocktail first. I had the pineapple martini and was impressed with it! My boyfriend had an old fashioned and it was really good! I had the best Manhattan ever (actually I had 2) while we were waiting for our show to start at the DPAC. They have a great drink selection of mixed drinks, beer, whiskey and bourbons. The bartenders were really cool too. We will definitely return if we're in the area. read more

I love 106 main, it's a great dive-y but not grungy vibe. The drink menu is also great, with beer and cocktails. It's also CHEAP--I got a $5 gin and tonic which alone made my visit to 106 main worth it. Maybe this was a holiday special or something but either way it made my night. The specialty cocktails are also tasty and well portioned. The space itself has a bar, booths, and tables, with low lighting and low ceilings. The outside is unassuming but don't let that fool you--this is a terrific establishment and I will be making it a regular in my downtown Durham bar rotation. I came to Durham from Raleigh because my significant other is obsessed with Pie Pushers pizza, so we decided to stop in for a drink at 106 main and order the pizza as takeout. They had a decent sized crowd and the bartenders were still exceedingly friendly and conversational. If I lived closer I would definitely make this my go-to local place to grab a drink and watch a sporting event. There are a lot of similar places in Raleigh but they just never make you feel comfortable and at home like 106 did. (Did I mention the friendly bartenders?) I loved their martini menu! Durham has become the new hot spot for little bars opening up and trying to attract the late night crowd. 106 Main is one of these spots and lucky for them it's survived so far. A bar spot located directly on Main Street, you can't miss the Christmas lights in the window, one block from The Pinhook, 106 attracts a grungy group of regulars. We walked in on a Saturday evening about 7pm and were kindly greeted and noted all of two other people at the bar (during our stint, a total of six people besides us arrived). A little bar on the left side of the building is well lit and gives off a classy cocktail vibe compared to the dark couches, tables and chairs that surround the rest of the space with a huge tv centerpiece and scream grunge/sports bar. Two bartenders were staffing on the night we came in. While the taller was friendly and fairly personable, the shorter of the two was off-putting and even cut me off during a conversation we were having. Not a very hospitable move for a new bar. With many cocktails to choose from ranging from $10-$11, I chose a the Negroni: a gin, vermouth, bitters and campari. It was very heavy on the campari and I wouldn't order it again (I am curious about the coffee martini!). I thought the balance between the drink prices, the style of the drinks and the feel of the bar didn't really vibe together. I was also surprised to discover that 106 Main doesn't have any beers on tap. Overall, I think 106 Main has a little ways to go to discover their identity. read more

Stopped in this bar one night out with friends. It's fine, your typical small hole-in-the wall local place but nothing fancy. The decor is dated but there were plenty of places to sit which was nice. The drink I had (I believe it was an infused lemonade or another similar cocktail) was very good and they did have a large drink menu. At the time we were there (probably about 10pm on a Saturday) it did not appear they were serving food. I'm not sure if they do at other times of the day or not. I think we were also the only people in the bar aside from another group of 2 so it definitely doesn't seem like a popular hangout but could be a good choice if you are looking for somewhere less crowded with seating. Overall, a decent bar but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. read more

My husband and I came in to have a pre-dinner drink on a Thursday night because every other bar in the area was packed. The décor and clientele reminded me of the many bars that make up Myrtle Beach. The bartender was super friendly though and provided us with drink menus. We settled on a Margarita and a Dirty Martini. They were both very..meh and overpriced at $9 for what they were. I think Rose L hit the nail on the head when she stated the balance between the drink prices, the style of drinks and the feel of the bar don't really vibe together. I guess this place is ok to get away from the crowds and maybe have a beer or glass of wine but I can't recommend their mixed drinks. Love this place. Popped in yesterday and saw new tables, new booths, tightened vibe. The place looks great. It's a tad on the dive side, on purpose. But it's not grungy. It's just not the bar at Revolution. It's clean and dark and moderately quiet. Mike, the owner, is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. Great to talk to, recommend a drink, or even recommend other places in the area. He's a big believer in rising tides lifting all boats and is quick to compliment many other establishments nearby and beyond. That's a strong point for a business owner and should be both appreciated and encouraged. I'm a beer lover and Mike and crew keep everything in the bottle or can. Nothing on tap. Some may find this a turn off, but I love it. His liquor pours are long and generous. I don't do cocktails but his old fashioned and "adult iced coffee" is worth the price and then some. Flat screens up on the walls for games, this is my go-to place for ACC/NCAA/Derby/World Cup/NFL days. This is truly one of the best bars in NC. It is exactly what it wants to be and nothing less. It isn't trying to be everything to all people. It's the bar I'd want to open for me and my friends. And when you walk into 106 Main, you're already a friend of the bar. Go check it out. I think this is my first review, but I feel like I have found the new spot that has yet to be discovered by the rest of Durham. So here goes my plug, 106 Main is a throwback bar to past times when the ingredients in your drink mattered most. All drinks are served with pride, cocktails are made with passion. The beer is served cold and with a proper glass. You can chill out at the bar and strike up a conversation with the staff or other locals, or move it over to the couch in the lounge area for a more intimate setting. This is one of my favorite bars in Durham. Mike, the owner, is one of the kindest people I've ever met. As a result the staff has high morale and is always friendly and on top of things. And the bartenders make a solid Old Fashioned, which is one of my favorite cocktails and not something every bar has mastered. The place is very comfortable with the perfect laid back vibe.
