Came here for lunch on a Sunday. Did a flight and had some lunch. The staff were nice. Not many people in there. Nice location and nice bar. Plenty of seating. The apple flavor whiskey was not good. Too syrupy and the peach flavor is insanely sweet; may be good in a mixed drink. The sweet potato was good. I could sip that easily. For food I had deviled eggs and brisket nachos. The deviled eggs weren't that good. The nachos tasted good and a nice portion. Though it's not bad, it also wasn't good. Glad I tried it off my list, but won't be back. read more

We had some friends in town from San Diego and wanted to show them a few places we've been meaning to try. It was a Monday evening and it was pouring down rain. We weren't even sure anyone would be inside Weldon Mills - thankfully they were. As you walk in it's just such a big space, lots of seating areas and visual interest. The bartender was very welcoming, and we think that he was happy to see us. We got our cocktails very quickly, and the bartender even explained some things about the distillery to us. We had such a nice time just relaxing and getting out of the rain. Sadly, I did not take note of the names of the cocktails that we got, but it is nice to see. They have a rotational menu. Set up a meetup for my dining club for early afternoon drinks. We got the little conversation area beyond the bar with the round table, and had several chairs and a small sofa. Very comfortable and private. We ordered drinks and a hummus plate, which came with cucumbers as well as bread for dipping. We stopped in for a cocktail prior to a baseball game in town. From the time we sat and were politely greeted until we received our 3 cocktails was 30 minutes. We were asked twice while waiting if everything was ok. Both times we said "no." I don't think they understood. When we finally got our very expensive drinks, the explanation was "I'm sorry. We lost your ticket." They gave us a free glass of bad Prosecco as an apology. Nobody drank it. I chugged my $25 bourbon shot and left and still missed the first pitch. I don't think there were any adults working there. Literally the longest I have ever waited for a cocktail in my life. This place is a dumpster fire. A polite pretentious dumpster fire. read more

I was sooo happy that me and my friend got to finally try this place. We were lucky enough that when we visited they weren't busy at all but even if they were there is plenty of seating! We tried their Rhubarb Colored Glasses , Espresso Martini, Halifax Sunset and one that was their version of a lemon drop. All of them were perfectly balanced and tasty. We also tried their chicken wings and whatever dry rub they used on man was it good! Weldon Mills has been on my list of places but I hadn't planned to visit. I saw the tiki lounge as I passed by while in the area. Lauren was so nice and welcoming into the Tiki Lounge area. Lauren was genuinely happy to see me as I walked inside. Lauren educated me on all things last Friday at Weldon Mills. On the last Friday there is a live band inside Weldon Mills. I've always wanted to hear Al Strong play and ironically I stumbled upon this gem of a space not having any knowledge of the live music. I enjoyed some food inside at the bar. The staff inside were equally pleasant and welcoming. The wings were delicious. I tried the gin-tasting flight for only $8 I believe. A great price. The 86-proof platinum-distilled gin infused with real fruit was really good. I enjoyed the hibiscus ginger and raspberry. For dessert, I tried the red velvet cake. The cake isn't the best I've had, but for there to be dessert offerings - this was a nice addition to satisfy my sweet tooth. Weldon Mills is spacious and cozy for a date night or girls' night out. Such a cool spot! My husband and I just had a date night here and it was wonderful. As a whiskey girlie, I had to get the whiskey flight. All five of them were amazing but the peach elderflower, caramel apple, and maple ones were my favorites. No, I couldn't pick just one to be favorite. I ended up buying a bottle of the maple one because they are about to stop selling it. If you get a chance to grab one, make sure you do. I promise you won't regret it! Everyone that works there was so kind and helpful! We Weill most definitely be back and will add this place to our date night rotation! Found this on yelp and was looking for something new. The veteran aspect of it caught my eye and the main reason we stopped. Drake was awesome, energetic and willing to pass on his passion for the place. We did the tastings (multiple) and had complete drinks. All were great. I had an easy time sipping and enjoying the atmosphere of Weldon Mills. It felt like I was walking into a speakeasy as the lights were a little low, and the couches, chairs, and stables had a vintage flair and vibe to them. I decided to check out their whiskey flight, and my favorite out of the five hands down was the peach elderflower. It had a nice hint of sweetness and was an easy sipper. I am always looking for whiskey flavors that my mom can use to bake cakes with, and this is one that I think she will need to add in her rotation! I liked it so much that I got a single pour. My total was just a little over $17! What a great night with good service as well! I will be back for a few more sips in the future. They have specials almost every day. Located in the space that used to be Union Social Club (which moved and then closed 2 weeks after I had paid my membership fee that wasn't going to be refunded), the space is very large and very chic. They also are going to open up an outdoor patio which is great since the weather is getting nice. I've been twice now and once sat at the bar and had a good chat with the bartender and other patrons and also sat in a booth and had great service. Both times I have been there it hasn't been super crowded (which I almost don't want to write this review because I want it to stay not crowded). The cocktails (while not cheap) are the most inventive cocktails in Durham. My husband and I have very different likes when it comes to cocktails (he likes whiskey and I like sweet drinks) and there is something for everyone. So far my favorite has been The Salad. All of them were wonderful but they do take a bit of time to make so be aware of that. We also tried the food-- it was fine but pretty typical bar food (and I was kinda hoping the food would live up to the creativity of the cocktails). Overall, great addition to the bar scene. I predict that once the word gets out this place will be very popular. read more

Was there recently for a private event and had an amazing time - awesome space, amazing drinks and tremendous service. It was a busy scene, and the staff could not have been more accommodating. I then proceeded to leave my jacket behind and flew back home to Massachusetts in the morning. The GM Meggan went above and beyond and MAILED MY JACKET back to me. Such an incredible act of kindness that went so above and beyond your standard customer service, especially for an out-of-towner. This might just be my new favorite bar in Durham!! The space is super open with plenty of comfy seating. Good for big groups to come hang out and grab a super tasty drink! The music is an appropriate volume (Lol can you tell my age..) which makes this a great spot for groups that actually want to talk to each other. NC Food Reviews Weldon Mills Distillery Came in for drinks after dinner after reading the consistent 5-star reviews. Very nice vibe inside: urbany-classy-chill-restored warehouse-y feel. Plentiful comfortable seating, with corners. Super kind staff. We started with a bourbon taster. As a bourbon drinker, I thought everything was good, with the cask strength (Reserve) and all-malt being very good. Tim came over and personally described each to us (and he was right, someone needs to rewrite the descriptions on the taster mat): if I understood correctly, the first group starts with the same base (The Reserve) and gets cut in different ways. The Soldier's Cut at 82 proof reminded me of Basil Hayden: for the person who doesn't really drink bourbon--nice for what it is (not much there for bourbon drinkers). They had an extra one for what they made for the Durham Bulls. Again, fine. The Select (94 proof) was also good and a reasonable small batch: tasty and smooth. The Reserve is where it started to get interesting: cask strength, 112 proof but aged most of the fire out (not all, thank goodness), much more sophisticated, interesting flavors, nice oak balance. Not surprisingly, stick with the best and don't cut it is a good slogan. Finally, the All Malt was really interesting, but it's hard to judge the 5th bourbon (sigh). So I went and ordered a Reserve Old Fashion: good but a bit sweet for me, If I go back, I would order a Reserve straight up (and definitely retry the All Malt!). And going back I shall! My wife after the tasting opted a for a red wine, There were only two options ("rotating") and she said her pinot was excellent. Music on Fri night was excellent, but pretty loud. We might go for food next time as well. Menu was small but interesting. read more

This place has so much potential, yet every time I've been here it's been basically empty which I don't get - would love for this venue to get the word out more! I have worked from here and the wifi has been decent, and all of the drinks I've had have been good. We've been here twice now, once while randomly stumbling onto it while walking around downtown Durham and once for a special event with a local dining club. On our first visit, we sat at the bar and ordered cocktails (Dirty Hippie, and Arnold Palm Her). We chatted with the bartender who told us the owners try to source local ingredients. The vibe is wide open but relaxed, with tables and sofas (they just opened up an outdoor area as well). Lots of exposed brick from the old building. On our second visit, we got a Bean Me Up and a mocktail, plus light munchies of green eggs and ham and falafel bites. The presentation and taste of both were very nice. I'm waiting for them to offer tastings/classes since they have such a wide selection of bottled spirits. I think they have live music on some evenings but am not sure. There is paid parking nearby. If you want free parking, you'll have to walk farther. We'd definitely come back. read more

Had a really nice time at Weldon Mills Distillery. My boyfriend found it online and wanted to purchase a bottle of spirits. We decided to walk-in and we were pleasantly surprised to find it was a nice little lounge/bar. The decor was super cute and the staff was very friendly. They also have a small menu of snacks that includes options like jalapeño poppers, wings, charcuterie, cheese boards, etc. We went on a Sunday and they weren't serving the full menu. We ordered the jalapeño poppers and they were quite good. However, if you don't eat pork request them without the bacon bits. We ordered a couple of drinks as well. I enjoyed my Herby Derby and he enjoyed his drink as well. We had a fantastic time and brought a bottle of spirits to take home for a very reasonable $30. read more

This place might be my favorite because of the ambience simply but the people there are amazing. I've been there a few times. Was there with my friend Shelly who works there. She's the best. They're lucky to have her even if I'm biased. With that being said, met the GM he is very knowledgeable and understands the business. I was very curious to ask him about Weldon the company and the industry. He was very informative. Told me a lot. That man deserves a promotion easy!! This is a great place to hang out any day of the week. The exposed brick and velvet couches make it very comfortable to stay a while. Their drinks are the best in town and there spirits sales on site make it easy if you want to pick something up after. Live music on Fridays is always good. Staff is great too.
