This speakeasy was a fun time. We grabbed two rounds of drinks, it was the Gold Crush and Peaches and K for my husband and the Last Word and First in Flight for me. All of the cocktails were great selections but our favorite was the Gold Crush. This is a really cute spot, if you are in Carrboro check it out.

Great and creative cocktails, and really friendly bartenders to give recommendations or suggestions on what you'd like best. Beautiful lighting inside, smells a little chlorine heavy but you don't notice after a few mins

Cute speakeasy. Recently renovated, has a cool, cozy upstairs lounge area, and the cocktail I had was yummy.

Dreaming of a White Russian. There's a beverage here, man!

Five stars and then some Lucky happenstance for me That I found this place I bookmarked a ton of different places in the Research Triangle prior to coming down. This place was not on my agenda or even my radar. Took a rest but not a nap at my hotel for most of the evening. 11 o'clock rolled around and decided it was time to continue the March. Had a couple at a place next to the hotel which closed at midnight. Went strolling down the main Chapel Hill/Carrboro drive to see what else I could find. Saw some food trucks and a building next to it that was lighted up. Turned out it was a dispensary. Told them not my drug of choice. Guy at the counter pointed me to the direction of here. It is on the backside of the Carolina Car Wash. Dark when I got there but I didn't notice any signage. Saw some smokers congregating and figured this must be the place. It lives up to the speakeasy vibe. Dark and lowdown. Careful on your way in. The door I entered had quite the drop on the first step to ground level. The cocktails were priced about what you would expect. All were really good! My favorite was probably their take on a White Russian. The bartender, Dan, was from my hometown of Saint Paul. We even grew up on the same street but miles apart. Also ended up chatting with some friendly "locals" from Wisconsin and Nebraska. I put "locals" in quotes because if you visit here you will find out that almost nobody is from the area. One of the two biggest transplant centers in the nation. If you find yourself in the area, give it a whirl. I found great drinks and conversation on my maiden visit.

Chapel hill is cool! I am bit surprised that we have a speakeasy here. Place is definitely easy to be found. We tried couple of drinks - good

Gorgeous interior and a hidden gem. High quality ingredients and they take pride in their drinks. Friendly service.

Hands down, the best speakeasy. When you open the door, you see a shelf of books as you turn you see a very large open room. The mood is very ambient and they have an amazing bar. Place is small. Couple tables, lounger sofa and bar seats. Drinks: Very gourmet. You can ask the bartenders for recommendation. Lono and Quinn is just so welcoming and knowledgeable. I've tried so many I don't recall the names but I can tell you that you must experience their house cocktails. It does get busy on the weekend nights so if you want to experience drinks with bartenders full attention I recommend to go there early.

Cool little joint in a nondescript location, across the street from out mechanic. Had a delicious Kentucky Mule and hubby had a Damn the Torpedoes, made with gin and blood orange San Pellegrino and not sure what else. Both delicious. Small place, can imagine it's gets crowded, but not the case at 5:00 upon opening. Definite local flavor here.

Fave spot in Carborro/Chapel Hill! The atmosphere and the guys who work there are great, and so chill, Zack and Dan especially! Everytime I have gone there they have been so incredibly kind and if I am not in the mood for one of their awesome cocktails on the menu, they have whipped up cocktails for me on the spot that I have loved. We live in Durham which obviously has great cocktail bars but we love going out to Chapel Hill just to be able to have a drink or two there. This place is definitely a hidden gem!

The place is quite small, with about five tables, and maybe 12 seats at the bar. We sat at the bar as we only wanted drinks and snack. Christian, the bartender, greeted us right away and brought food and drink menus. He explained the specials and took our drink orders. My companion found an interesting Greek white wine, and I asked for a boulevardier, my go-to cocktail for a new place. The wine was to her liking, and the cocktail was about the best example I've had in recent memory. Christian used Woodford Reserve bourbon and Campari rather than Aperol so it had a slightly less bitter taste and was a lovely auburn color. The food menu was very interesting, with lots of items we've never tried. We ordered caesar salad with anchovies, green beans in garlic-soup sauce, panella (a chick-pea and cream cheese dish), and seasoned French fries. It was all yummy and delivered together. The service we got really couldn't have been much better: attentive without hovering. The food and drink quality was outstanding, and we thought the prices were very reasonable for what we got. In short, thanks Christian, and we'll be back.

This dinner had a full emotional arc…read more Let me start by saying this was one of the best meals I've had in the last 2-3 years. The star of the show in my opinion were the hush puppies and the corn and wild mushroom risotto. There were sooo many different flavors that perfectly complemented each other. I was blown away. And the pig cheek on top was incredible. 500/10. Our server made great recommendations! Then-- chaos and heartbreak ensued in the form of a fire alarm. We were forced to evacuate the restaurant as the fire department arrived , leaving about half our meal on the table. After 30 or so minutes of waiting out in the cold (we were apparently the only guests who hadn't paid out yet) our server came to find us. He asked us if we wanted to just give him our credit card information and he would ring us up later, when the fire department gave them the ok, as he understood not wanting to wait around. It broke our heart to leave our leftovers, but we agreed and went to go get the car. Thankfully we are stubborn.. and optimistic to a fault. And by the third time we circled around the block, the fire truck was pulling away. I ran in and asked if there was any chance our food hadn't been thrown away yet, and it hadn't! The staff was happy we had been able to come back, and they packed everything up for us, even taking the hush puppies off the bill and sneaking in a complimentary piece of key lime pie. I'm so glad we were able to tip our server appropriately for his great service-- and rescue our leftovers. Happy ending. All was well. (And the fire ended up being something innocuous in the unit above the restaurant)

He kept refilling our waters which is a gesture that doesn't go unnoticed. Their menu is quite confusing. They have a hot section, cold section, and "classics" section. I assumed the classics were their mains and the "hot" and "cold" were just appetizers due to the difference in pricing. I opted for the blackened salmon, and my friend got the watermelon salad and tomato plate to share. The wait for food wasn't that long, but once they arrived, they were beautiful. Vibrant, full of color, plates of food that I was dying to dig into. The salmon was a pretty small piece (I was expecting a larger portion) and was on top of black beans and cheese grits. The salmon had a green sauce on top which complemented each aspect of the dish very well. I loved eating a bite of everything together. The tomato plate special was also good, but nothing sensational. It's literally just tomatoes with oil on them, but I guess they tasted fresh. I probably wouldn't come back, but this was a good meal nonetheless.

The extra secret, private room is located upstairs in The Big Easy, down a back hallway through an ominous door labeled "staff only". This isn't a space that you can just walk into (now that you know where it's located), rather it's a private venue space, charging $300/6 hours on Fridays and Saturdays with a $500 minimum bar tab and $100/6 hours Sunday-Thursday with a $300 minimum bar tab. The small space includes a New Orleans voodoo theme complete with voodoo dolls and bare breasted fortune tellers (in photos). Your party is invited to enjoy the velvet couches and hairs artfully placed around the room and has access to a private bar (and bartender). I love the back wall, with photo windows viewing Salisbury Street and a huge wooden bench seat. Rebecca and her husband Steve, the owners of The Big Easy, created this space to throw a rocking New Years Eve party, and they're inviting locals to use it during the year. Rebecca hired a fortune teller for our VIP night, but options are practically unlimited for what you want to bring in (bachelorette party strippers?!) The room is pricy to rent, but the intention is to get in a "classier" group of people that will keep the space up (however, there's definitely room for a dance party in the room, think old Bee Hive tightness). The best part: that VIP feeling as you are personally led up to the room by a manager, it was VERY speakeasy and secretive!

I took off early and came here early on a Wednesday night with my aunt (we were going to try another restaurant on Tobacco Road later that evening for dinner.) This is a very definite speakeasy vibe here...the art deco decor is amazing. My eyes were thrilled before we even sat down. We had our pick of places since we got there right as they opened. Our waitress came over and was so pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. I cannot wait to bring my uncle back to enjoy some new bourbons. I started with a Wake Up Holland and my aunt had a chocolate martini (not on the menu but the bartender understood the assignment!) Wake Up Holland is 100% worth the hype. I LOVED IT. But since I was worried about the caffiene, I tried The Smoking Jacket next. It wasn't really my favorite...it tasted like a campfire which I know some people enjoy but it wasn't my jam. The waitress was very astute and mentioned that they could make the Wake Up Holland in decaf and I rejoiced!!! And ended the evening with that. The service, ambiance, and drinks were all stellar and I cannot wait to return to this establishment!
