    Crème brûlée
    Inez G.

It was late in the afternoon and my daughter was craving breakfast we made a special trek across town for the chicken pancake skillet at Scratch Kitchen! The service was prompt and our brunch order arrived very quickly. We enjoyed every last bite and had a little room to spare for a little crème brûlée. As it was later in the day, the restaurant wasn't too crowded and the playlist was perfection! Can't wait to return the next time a breakfast craving hits.

My friends and I met on a chilly rainy evening for dinner. There was a 15 minute wait. We were seated in about 15 minutes. Scratch is pretty inside, and they have plenty of seating inside and outside. We started with appetizers, the loaded fries, the pimento cheese wontons and the crab dip. They were all very good!!! The loaded fries could feed 5 people! I had the shrimp tacos as my meal and they were very good, al little heavy on the cilantro, but very good. One of my friends had the Bibbimap and substituted the beef for salmon. The presentation was beautiful, but it was just ok. The strange rice patty at the bottom was unexpected and hard. My other friend had one of the salads and she enjoyed it. The service was great. I enjoyed my visit and will go back again.

I've been to Scratch Kitchen and Taproom a few times. Their service is consistently good especially if you sit at the bar. The food is kind of a mix of American and southern comfort food. It's a little too rich for me most of the time but the atmosphere is nice and they have lots of outside seating and can accommodate large groups. Street tacos and fried chicken salad are good.

Came here for brunch after going on a hike with my friends. The food hit the spot. I had the kid's French toast because I downed their mini doughnut hole which tasted like zeppoles . I enjoyed every bite! Would definitely return.

Stopped in for lunch - descent meal. There was a variety of options. The salad didn't have a ton of flavor, felt like it was missing something. The service was ok.

I was visiting my friend in Raleigh for the weekend and on my first day, we decided to check out Scratch as the pictures on Yelp look enticing. Which overall, our experience was good although our waiter often disappeared and didn't stop by very often. For food, I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese, which was large and pretty decent. Could've used a smidge more seasoning but I enjoyed my meal overall. It's large enough that it could be split between two people. We also got the biscuits as an appetizer and I would say you can definitely pass on them. They tasted almost like an English muffin which is not my favorite. Now for the drinks, those were horrible and it's been awhile since I've had a really bad drink. My friend ordered the 'honey don't be sour' and I got a different one that was recommended by our waiter as it was popular and on the sweet side. Both were terrible, I mean like wow that's bad. I didn't drink it and just decided to drink water instead. My friend finished hers begrudging. Final rating is a 3.5. I would give Scratch another chance but would skip the cocktails the next time I go.

We came out for my birthday dinner (my choice!), and with so many good options around, I ended up going back to Scratch in Apex. It had been a while since our last visit, and this was the perfect excuse. Sunday night, party of five (wife, both boys, and one girlfriend). No wait, no rush, just a nice, easy evening. I went with the pork chop and swapped the collard greens for bacon Brussels sprouts, because after nearly nine years of living here, I still haven't fully acquired the "collard greens appreciation gene." Maybe one day. The portions were very generous, and the three mac 'n' cheese dishes were generous enough that those orderers needed to-go boxes. Meanwhile, the poke bowl and I cleaned our plates. No regrets there, my pork chop was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. Our server, Indiana, was excellent, friendly, attentive, and happy to answer every question we had. Only downside? The restaurant was a bit warm inside. Not unbearable, just enough that we noticed. But that's a small thing compared to the great food, great service, and overall good vibes. Not our first visit, and definitely not our last... honestly, we should come here more often. Solid comfort food, done right.

We were traveling through the area and did a little yelp research on places to eat. This one stood out to me with a unique menu. They have a beautiful inside area that could accommodate many different size parties. They also had a very nice outdoor patio with plenty of tables as well. Joe was our main server, who was very friendly and attentive, but then we also had another lady who brought out our food and that would check on us periodically as well. The menu is very eclectic to serve all pallets. And each dish that we had was a flavor bomb! Very tasty! The overall experience, and the taste of the food, was five stars.

Went for lunch on a Sunday and it was really busy! The parking was a little difficult, but it could have been because there was an arts fair going on nearby at the same time. I got a spot in the parking lot outside, but my friend had to park several blocks away. The servers were super friendly and patient, considering my friend was late due to parking and I had to wait for her for a while. I really liked my salad, topped with salmon. I love a place with healthy options! My friend tried a bunch of appetizers and enjoyed them. We also enjoyed mocktails! For desert we shared the biggest piece of chocolate cake ever. A very nice ambiance with lots of windows. Also not too loud for conversation. Would definitely be back!

I was in Raleigh and stopped here for brunch on the way to the airport. The place was crowded and we were seated right away. Service was excellent, it was the food that didn't do it for me. The menu stated that everything is made from scratch with care and attention to detail, which set high expectations. Coffee for 2 came in a French Press and was quite good. Both my husband and I ordered the same thing: which is unusual, the Crème Brûlée French Toast. It sounded amazing--fresh local sourdough bread, bourbon blueberry maple syrup, vanilla whipped cream, fresh mint. It's served with potatoes, but we were able to sub fresh fruit When the food arrived at our table less than a minute after ordering, I knew something was off. It definitely didn't taste made-from-scratch. The flavors just didn't come together for me: the sourdough was too sour, and the syrup had an overpowering bourbon flavor with barely any maple coming through. It all just felt out of balance. I left disappointed. The place has a great atmosphere and service, maybe we just picked the wrong dish--but for a spot that prides itself on scratch-made food, it missed the mark.

So glad we decided to walk in on this establishment. We opted out just to have appetizers and had the firecracker shrimp the crabcakes, the pork belly, the green tomato stacks, and the roasted cauliflower. We finished it all definitely will come back.. Service was fantastic. Real trendy spot in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.

We came for Saturday brunch and were surprised it wasn't too busy. The place feels a little small, but is cute and had a southern vibe. Drinks were great. I had the mango mimosa, my husband had the Maple Bacon Old Fashioned, and our friend had the Bloody Maria. We all enjoyed them. The food was a bit of a mix. I ordered the spicy crispy chicken biscuit and didn't enjoy it. It wasn't spicy, it was dry and lacked flavor. It really needed a sauce or syrup. My husband got the Chicken Dutch Pancake and thought it was excellent. Our friend liked the Southern Huevos Rancheros Bowl but felt it was overloaded in black-eyed peas and it overpowered the dish. Service was great. The bartender and our waitress were both very kind and helpful. We would definitely come back and try something different next time.

I'm not sure if I went on an off day considering all the rave reviews but my Mac and cheese dish was straight up inedible. It was oily and no flavor whatsoever. I ate a few bites before giving up. Very disappointed and wouldn't go back!

You walk in and have a little self-type market area and immediately to the right there are refrigerators with prepared meals to buy and take home. Straight after the Shelf section there is the butcher shop with all cuts of meats. I liked the concept where you could even pick your meats and have the chef cook them there for you and you can dine in! They also had an area for dining in and sitting at a bar. The bar had many choices of drinks and a wine section in the back to the side. There was a patio area as well. I decided to have some lunch so I got the salmon BLT which was delicious and I got the side of hot honey brussel sprouts. I ordered some lasagna to take home for a meal later. The salmon was cooked perfectly at a medium temperature and the flavoring was great. The brussel sprouts had just enough kick to them and was a great portion size for two or more. The lasagna was good and also a good size but it is a little bit spicy so if you dont like spice be prepared for a little tiny bit. All was delish. The pricing for everything is on point and not too expensive. They also have specials most of the days of the week! Peyton helped me with my to go orders and I met Ralph the owner who told me about the concept of everything. I will definitely be back and I would highly recommend! Second time back was wonderful! Sat and dined in. I got the $1 wings special with barbecue, mac and cheese, and salmon salad. The wings were jumbo size which is great because unlike other places they weren't the size of your pinky. The mac and cheese was very flavorful with the small crisp. The salmon salad was neat because it came and deconstructed segments so you could really pick which toppings you wanted on each bite. The dressing on it was amazing and so was the ranch for the wings. I was attended to by Desiah and Liam who were other so personable and lovely! All of the portions are amazing and I love it because I have food for a few days. Definitely going to come back again to try some of the new items that they've added to their menu.

Now, the real standout: the Hot Honey Roasted Brussels. Those were done to perfection. Crisp on the outside, tender inside, with just the right touch of sweetness and heat. Frankly, I could eat those daily without a second thought. Service deserves a nod, too. The chef stopped by the table to check in, which we were not expecting. Payton, our server, had a great read on the table, attentive when needed, but gave us the space to enjoy the evening without interruption. That kind of awareness goes a long way, especially on a date. All in, it's the kind of place that quietly does things right. Good food, easy atmosphere, and just enough polish to make the night feel a little special. Definitely a strong choice when you're hoping for a second date that turns into a third.

I know that blueberry is very light in flavor compared to coffee so I asked for more than the allotted amount of syrup and their response was that they had a certain amount added to of syrups added. So I said ok thinking they would take that into consideration but when I got my coffee, guess the amount they added didn't matter because it tasted the same as a latte regular. Unfortunately, at the end of my coffee (like the last 20%) had what I assume to be bits of berry in it? The texture made me toss the remaining amount. The actual selections on the shelves available seem in less volume than say their Preston Corners location (on my second visit here I wound up going to Preston Corners again for the items I wanted for a holiday party I was to attend). The same, still delicious, baked items in their display case as well as coffee/beverages are available here and still as enjoyable which earns most of their four stars here. Luckily the second visit I made here was on a warmer day so the outside seating could be utilized if you wanted to eat there. Another reason for their four stars here is the great positive attitude and friendly demeanor of the staff here. Even though they could not help me with my shipping of gift baskets on the first visit when I inquired, I was offered coffee while I waited for my ride share to take me to the Preston Corners location and that was greatly appreciated. The small cafe at the downtown Cary of La Farm Bakery is a nice stop for bakery items and goodies but for more of the full "La Farm experience" for gifts etc. then you may want to start out at the Preston Corners/Cary Parkway location. I may have had more of a 3.5 star full experience here, they get to those 4 stars with the deliciousness of the La Farm baked goods and the friendly helpful staff I encountered.
