I had to send my fries back since they weren't crispy, and they nailed them the second go-around. We would absolutely come back next time we are in Cary! My friends and I met on a chilly rainy evening for dinner. There was a 15 minute wait. We were seated in about 15 minutes. Scratch is pretty inside, and they have plenty of seating inside and outside. We started with appetizers, the loaded fries, the pimento cheese wontons and the crab dip. They were all very good!!! The loaded fries could feed 5 people! I had the shrimp tacos as my meal and they were very good, al little heavy on the cilantro, but very good. One of my friends had the Bibbimap and substituted the beef for salmon. The presentation was beautiful, but it was just ok. The strange rice patty at the bottom was unexpected and hard. It's a little too rich for me most of the time but the atmosphere is nice and they have lots of outside seating and can accommodate large groups. Which overall, our experience was good although our waiter often disappeared and didn't stop by very often. For food, I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese, which was large and pretty decent. Could've used a smidge more seasoning but I enjoyed my meal overall. It's large enough that it could be split between two people. We also got the biscuits as an appetizer and I would say you can definitely pass on them. They tasted almost like an English muffin which is not my favorite. Now for the drinks, those were horrible and it's been awhile since I've had a really bad drink. My friend ordered the 'honey don't be sour' and I got a different one that was recommended by our waiter as it was popular and on the sweet side. Both were terrible, I mean like wow that's bad. I didn't drink it and just decided to drink water instead. My friend finished hers begrudging. Final rating is a 3.5. We came out for my birthday dinner (my choice!), and with so many good options around, I ended up going back to Scratch in Apex. It had been a while since our last visit, and this was the perfect excuse. Sunday night, party of five (wife, both boys, and one girlfriend). No wait, no rush, just a nice, easy evening. I went with the pork chop and swapped the collard greens for bacon Brussels sprouts, because after nearly nine years of living here, I still haven't fully acquired the "collard greens appreciation gene." Maybe one day. The portions were very generous, and the three mac 'n' cheese dishes were generous enough that those orderers needed to-go boxes. Meanwhile, the poke bowl and I cleaned our plates. No regrets there, my pork chop was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. Our server, Indiana, was excellent, friendly, attentive, and happy to answer every question we had. Only downside? The restaurant was a bit warm inside. Not unbearable, just enough that we noticed. But that's a small thing compared to the great food, great service, and overall good vibes. We were traveling through the area and did a little yelp research on places to eat. This one stood out to me with a unique menu. They have a beautiful inside area that could accommodate many different size parties. They also had a very nice outdoor patio with plenty of tables as well. Joe was our main server, who was very friendly and attentive, but then we also had another lady who brought out our food and that would check on us periodically as well. Went for lunch on a Sunday and it was really busy! The parking was a little difficult, but it could have been because there was an arts fair going on nearby at the same time. I got a spot in the parking lot outside, but my friend had to park several blocks away. The servers were super friendly and patient, considering my friend was late due to parking and I had to wait for her for a while. I really liked my salad, topped with salmon. It's served with potatoes, but we were able to sub fresh fruit When the food arrived at our table less than a minute after ordering, I knew something was off. It definitely didn't taste made-from-scratch. The flavors just didn't come together for me: the sourdough was too sour, and the syrup had an overpowering bourbon flavor with barely any maple coming through. It all just felt out of balance. The handful of times I've gone to lunch during the week I've had a great experience, however today's Sunday brunch was pretty bad. We were in downtown Cary and walked to this restaurant. The location is very nice and walkable. We each got a drink that both were okay; neither were a wow for us. I missed getting a picture but we got the pimento cheese wontons as an appetizer which were good; they weren't exactly what I was expecting on the shape of them and the crunch you get on a normal wonton wasn't there but the flavor was there. We got the Bacon Hoop Cheeseburger to split which was just okay; burgers are one my favorite foods and it just didn't hit that sweet spot of feeling satisfied. I did appreciate that the red onions were pickled though; it was a nice difference to the usual. We also felt rushed like the waiter wanted us to pay and get out as soon as possible so they could get the next group in; if I feel like I am cattle being herded, I am not going to feel like the overall experience was good. My wife, family, and I recently visited Scratch Kitchen and Tap Room, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. We decided to try their new Korean marinated flank steak sandwich, and wow, it was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. The flavors were perfectly balanced. The pickle had a unique, tangy flavor that complemented the rich steak beautifully. The bread was toasted just enough to add texture but still soft enough that it didn't scratch the roof of your mouth, a small detail, but one that makes a big difference. The Korean-style mayonnaise was phenomenal; I'm not entirely sure what's in it, but I'd love to find out because it brought everything together. The arugula added a fresh, peppery touch that really completed the sandwich. This was our first time visiting this particular location, but we've been to their sister restaurants, The Mason Jar and The Tap Station, and Scratch Kitchen holds its own with the same level of excellence. The service was top-notch, our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable about everything from the beer on tap to the house-made condiments. Even the ketchup was a premium Heinz variety, and the ranch dressing was made in-house and tasted fresh and flavorful. We also tried a couple of their burgers, including the barbecue burger, which were both excellent, but that Korean steak sandwich definitely stole the show. All in all, Scratch Kitchen and Tap Room delivered a five-star experience, from the food and service to the welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be back! read more

Not exactly a warm welcome from hostess. Just grabbed menus & showed us to an inside table. We wanted to sit outside, not that she asked us. There were 2 tables available outside. The planters enclosing the tables need cleaned out of dead plants from last season. I had the special mango chicken w/ fried rice. A bit much combined. Either alone would be good, but too much sauce/flavors combined. Husband's fried chicken sandwich was good, but neither of us enjoyed the coleslaw. Being greeted with the Chex mix was a nice touch Agree with previous comment that if you don't park in their parking lot you need to walk in the street to get to the place. Amazing first experience at Scratch! A friend and I came for lunch on Black Friday. It was busy but we snagged two bar seats. It's beautifully decorated and much bigger inside than it seems. There's also patio seating for warmer days. Parking may be a tad tricky at peak times but they do have a shared lot with the place next door. There's also street parking and other downtown Cary lots nearby. My friend had one of the seasonal mocktails and added Apple Patron at the bartender's suggestion. Outstanding! For lunch I had the Pork Belly Tacos and a side salad. This was a huge portion for the price and for an app! You get 3 nice size tacos for $13. The pork belly had an amazing flavor and texture. My friend had the BLT and raved over it all day. She said it was the best she has ever had! I had a bite so I can vouch for such a tall statement. I loved the green tomato with the chopped bacon. Great southern inspired restaurant located in the Cary area! The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor area. They do not take reservations and were packed early on a Saturday evening. There was no wait at the bar, so my husband and I ate up there. The service started off a little slow at the bar because they just had another bartender arrive to help out. It took maybe 10ish minutes for them to take our order, but food came out QUICK. The bartenders were very friendly and apologetic over the wait. I ordered the truffle mac & cheese burger with fries. While my previous dinner experiences at the Apex location have been enjoyable, my brunch experience at the Cedar St. location in Cary this morning was extremely disappointing. We ordered the breakfast burrito and the breakfast skillet, both of which were inedible. The dishes consisted entirely of undercooked potatoes. When I informed our server of the issue and explained that I could only take one bite, she appeared indifferent and did not offer to remove the items from our bill. Furthermore, we were seated in the back of an otherwise empty restaurant near the restrooms, and we noticed a significant issue with flies in the dining area and no paper towels or toilet paper in the restroom. Given our previous positive experiences with your brand, this visit was very unexpected. We will stick to the Apex location for future visits after this horrible experience. read more

I ordered the Cast Iron Chicken, and it was absolutely delectable. The skin was crispy, the chicken not too dry, and the Brussels sprouts and squash were fantastic! The sauce was incredible as well. My partner got a Mac and cheese burger that was good, but my order was definitely better. The second time we came, I tried their salmon with risotto and my boyfriend got shrimp and grits. His grits were incredible! My salmon was okay; liked the chicken better by a lot. We came back after a long time and Caroline was the bartender. She was very attentive and friendly! I'm writing this to inform you of the terrible experience my party of 4 and I had yesterday at your restaurant. We came there for a celebration lunch and left very disappointed. While the waiter was very kind, he could not answer any questions about the high-end items on the menu such as the Lobster mac and cheese and the NY Strip steak. His response was "I haven't had the opportunity to taste this because it costs too much and I cannot afford to buy it on my own. But I heard it was really good!" That is an unacceptable response. This establishment should have a group tasting for their waitstaff to sample menu items, so they can accurately provide insight to what is offered. Also, when the waiter brought out entrees, the salad dressing was positioned at an angle on top of my side salad and slid off when he turned to put my food down. The waiter inadvertently poured ranch dressing ALL over my hand, my pants, and my shoes and feet! The saucer flew across the floor and ranch dressing also landed on my coworker's pants leg. He apologized to us and brought us towels for us to clean up the mess. However, there was no compensation whatsoever for this. The manager should have come over to speak with us, AND someone should have covered a portion if our bill or at least my dry-cleaning fee. We spent $298 on this lunch and left totally disheveled and disappointed in the service. read more

I got the shrimp po boy that said it was fried, but there was absolutely no breading or hint of fried in my opinon... it was small shrimp, some of which were not fully cooked, that were coated in a good, tangy sauce. It was $18, a seared rice bowl with steak, spinach, carrots, pickled red onions, cucumbers, and an over easy egg served with spicy bib sauce. The bowl itself was pretty good, and a beautiful presentation. The server was very busy as we had a party of 7, a lot of things (drinks, sauces, tableware, etc.) were forgotten.
