Conveniently located near Bond Brothers brewery this restaurant offers several unique menu options. We ended up making a selection of multiple appetizers. We ordered them one at a time like tapas style. We started with Green Tomatoes stacks (Coconut-Coated Fried Green Tomatoes with Layers of Red Pepper Jam and Coconut-Scallion Cream). All those flavors together were amazing. Then we had the Seared Scallops. Two orange-glazed seared scallops on root vegetable puree with arugula and fennel slaw and a pomegranate tamarind dressing. Then we finished off with Crispy Pork Belly Bites Tossed with Brussels Sprouts in A Thai-Chili Hoisin Glaze, Topped with Scallion Slaw and Sesame Seeds. But we managed to have room for dessert. I came here at the recommendation of friends - not much parking so be prepared to spend time finding parking on the street and walking especially if you're arriving during prime times. Overall the food was just "ok" for me, nothing special enough to make me want to return. We ordered several appetizers, one was the skillet cornbread which was unlike any cornbread that I've ever had before. Maybe it's just me, but the bottom third of cornbread had almost a pudding-like consistency, something I have not encountered previously with cornbread. Review: Scratch Kitchen & Taproom - Cary, NC We recently had an opportunity to dine at the Scratch Kitchen for lunch with family and the kids and wanted to share a few things about our experience. It was a Sunday afternoon, and we had options of picking from the Lunch menu and the Brunch menu, which provided a ton of options from breakfast, appetizers, salads, bowls, noodles, burgers, and entrees.  The options were a bit overwhelming; at one point, several people at the table had to ask the waiter for recommendations because it was a bit too much.   As a food critic, it is always very concerning when a restaurant has a ROBUST menu because it's hard to be consistent with the food quality with extensive menus.  Entrees Bibimbap Bowl - Seared Rice Bowl with Shaved and Marinated Ribeye Steak, Fresh Spinach, Carrots, Green Onions, Pickled Red Onions, Cucumbers and Over-Easy Egg. Served with Spicy Bib Sauce. This dish really had the perfect combination of flavors, blended together with the tenderness of the steak, the array of colors, tastes, and textures of the vegetables, and the rich, creamy egg overlay on top. My only complaint was that the spicy bib sauce was really spicy. Mind you, the waiter did warn us. It was more than expected. I love spicy, but others may find it overwhelming. Crispy Chicken Sandwich - Waffle-Battered Fried Chicken with Spicy Maple Syrup Aioli, Candied Bacon and House Pimento Cheese with Scratch-Made Pickles. Served on A Locally Made Brioche Bun.  This waffle batter chicken was perfectly cooked, crispy, juicy and tender inside, and seasoned to perfection.  The maple syrup aioli added an outstanding balance of heat and sweet flavors, adding the smoky sweet candied bacon, with the creamy richness of the pimento cheese and the contrast of flavors with the homemade pickles. The dish was the perfect blend of sweet, savory, and spicy to elevate this sandwich beyond normal expectations. Chicken Dutch Pancake - Dutch baby pancake baked in cast iron with hand-breaded fried chicken, fresh berries, and rosemary lemon maple syrup. I can't really explain what this was.  The fried chicken was a superior elevation, just like the sandwich, but the pancake was genuinely questionable.  I think we were all very disappointed. My biggest challenge was the texture of the pancake; being more like a "flan" texture, I would almost call it a Flan Pancake.  The saving grace of the dish was the flavor profile, with the sweetness of the berries mixed with rosemary maple syrup, which provided citrusy, earthy notes. It was a great blend of savory, sweet, and herbal flavors. OVERALL, it was a great experience. Surprisingly, with all the things on their menu, for the most part, the food was pretty good. Food - I had the shrimp Po' Boy and it was really really good! Crispy shrimp, spicey but not too hot plus the fried capers on top added a nice saltiness. My husband ordered the steak and eggs ... the korean style steak was juicy, tender and cooked perfectly. Service - amazing - out waitress was friendly and honest! We asked for her feedback on a couple of dishes, her feedback was on point! I love it when waitresses shoot you straight! We will definitely be back for more dishes to try! read more

We visited Scratch Kitchen and Taproom last Saturday and had a really good time. We got there at 6:30 and told the wait was an hour plus for a table. It was busy but we were then told we could sit at the bar and have dinner which we did. We opted for appetizers and shared. We got the Brussel Sprouts with pork belly, Loaded Fries with shaved steak, Harvest Salad, and The Sweet n Spicy Cauliflower. All were delicious!! The food came out quick even though they were slammed. Our bartender was attentive and the drinks came just as quick. They have seasonal drink specials and cocktails but I went with the Scratch Old Fashioned. It was made perfectly and hit the spot. The interior is deceiving from the street. The space is larger than I thought and there is a side / back room with additional seating. It was nice inside but it was loud so if you're looking for an intimate dinner spot, this is not it. The leftovers came home and the teenager devoured them the next day. We will definitely revisit again when out in Cary. read more

Point to note: for large groups they do not allow reservations. But they do allow to go in early to secure a table for large groups. As long as part of the group arrives. And this was how we secured a table for dinner. I went with my colleagues for a team dinner. Unfortunately I didn't get many pictures as I was the late person. Once you enter the restaurant, there are some booths on the left. And lining the wall. Centrally there is a bar and some tables and some high tables with high chairs. There are a variety of seats that cater to a variety of groups. I ordered a cream ale and it came in a Mason jar. The presentation was special, but the taste of my cream ale was nothing to shout about. My team ordered scratch fries and greenstack for appetizers. Fries came loaded with ribeye steak worcestershire cheese sauce spicy sauce candied bacon and scallions. It was a huge portion even for 11 people. Greenstack. Oh boy. I loved this it's fried green tomato with possibly cheese on top. I don't think any description could do this justice. For my entree, i ordered a bibimbap. Let's just say it's not bibimbsp in the traditional sense. I really was expecting traditional bibimbap.their rendition was not bad. I'm just disappointed I didn't get my fluffy rice but got a lightly fried rice patty instead the vegetables were all fresh. With a fried egg on top drizzled with gochujang. The beef on the rice is more savory than the characteristic mildly sweet bulgogi. The spinach wad raw instead of being sautéed like in real bibimbap. Stopped in for a quick snack and was very pleased with the food and the service. I ordered the appetizer scallop dish, a side of brussel sprouts, the truffle cotija fries and a side of grilled chicken (for my pup). The food came out quick and was delish, the scallops seared perfectly with a nice crust, and I swear I could drink the fries' garlic aioli. The princess, Wynonna, enjoyed her chicken and highly recommends. The staff all greeted my pup with open hands to pet, and brought her fresh water. Great food, exceptional and professional staff. Pretty good brunch and lunch place in downtown Cary. We took seats at the bar on a Sunday afternoon. The bibimbap bowl was one of the most popular menu items, so I went with that. It was a little spicy, but not too overwhelming. As the Sriracha sauce blended with the rice, it helped to counter the heat. I liked the BBQ egg rolls with smoked pork, Napa cabbage, slaw, with a side of Sriracha orange-ginger aioli. Pretty good side, but would be a lot for 1 person. The service was fair, but not great. My mom couldn't get any sweetener for her iced tea, despite asking the bartender twice. And the beverage refills did not come as quickly as we would've liked either. Sat down and ordered an appetizer, and it took a while to get out, and it took even longer for the food to get out. You even had to wait 10 min in line to use the restroom. We ended up sharing a bunch of appetizers for dinner. Those were the most interesting things on the menu. They had some really nice grilled shrimp tacos with a flavorful slaw on them. Buffalo cauliflower with blue cheese was very tasty and well cooked. They had some spicy tuna on a rice medallion, but I wouldn't recommend it. The rice was nicely toasted on the outside, but quite mushy on the inside. And the tuna was not very well flavored. The wasabi aioli was tepid. The veggie burger was adequate. I was in the area to have some car services at the dealership and planned to meet my favorite cousin for lunch. The restaurant definitely had curb appeal. They had seating inside and outside, however, we decided to eat inside. We were seated promptly. It was not busy initially but the crowd began to trickle in as we sat. This was a Monday around 11-1pm. We ordered pork belly tacos as an appetizer. They were so delicious, succulent, and flavorful. I had the Blues Mac and Cheese. It was very cheesy and tasteful. My cousin ordered a Thai bowl (I think). She enjoyed it. The atmosphere was good for us to catch up on things. Really chill environment. The staff was on point with service and checking on us. Scratch is now one of my favorite restaurants in North Carolina. While in the area a friend recommended we stop in for a meal. There was no wait to dine indoors as many customers were seated outside on the patio. I love the southern decor. Fresh flowers in mason jars, warm towels and beautiful blues and tufted leather. Service was excellent here. Our waitress was Taylor who kindly greeted us and took our order. We decided on firecracker shrimp with pickled Okra for an app, and the Apex & Westminister Abbey burgers for our meal. The Westminister Abbey burger was excellent with truffle fries. Taylor was a awesome waitress who even charged my phone to avoid it dying while dining. This restaurant prides itself on making meals from scratch and a focus on southern hospitality and that's what the experience gave. Scratch is a new favorite for me. We stopped by on a Saturday morning. The wait was 20 minutes and the parking lot right in front of the restaurant was FULL. We had to circle a couple of times because there also isn't any parking right on Chatham Street behind the restaurant. We finally decided to park in the church parking lot on the opposite side of Chatham (not sure if that was legal though.... But we drove a long way to get to this restaurant and didn't have a choice). The menu is pretty diversified, some new and creative plates and some old classics. My husband got a salad which he said was really good and had just the right amount of dressing on it and I got a BLT. Now this BLT was not your usual sandwich....it was fried green tomatoes, lettuce and bacon crumbles....it was good but different. The waiter didn't check on us during our meal, I would have liked another drink, but our food did not take long to get out to us and he got the check to us promptly. The restaurant is cute, with a bar area and seating area with tables and booths. We were sat at a tiny 2 person table along the front windows which would have been fine but it teetered, badly, and there was already something shoved under the leg to try and prevent teetering but was not doing its job. read more

Went for the first time March 29 2025 in Cary NC have been seeing this restaurant on Til Tok and decided to check it out since I was in the area. Overall it was okay I personally had my hopes up for the cast iron chicken when I ordered it I felt it was not that great chicken was dry and under seasoned. The brussels sprouts I prefer to be cooked longer and the butternut squash was not seasoned at all to me so sent my dish back. I ended up ordering the Bibimbap dish. Never had fresh spinach in my dish usually cooked but it was better to me then the cast iron chicken and my cousin had the steak with collard greens and Mac and cheese and she enjoyed her meal. The Pricing was fair will I return? I don't think I will if I am in the area again but it wasn't bad the service was friendly. read more

I come to scratch here and in Apex quite a bit and the last two times have been very lack luster. I order the same thing (chicken finger salad) and it has gotten worse each time. The amount of chicken I got this past time was one whole chicken finger. Previously when I wrote this review I had 3 full chicken fingers on top and in the salad. This one that I just got looked like they made the salad and at the last second grabbed a few pieces of chicken and threw it on there. When you pay that much for a salad you would hope it would fill you up but I was still hungry. The reason I kept it a three start is because the place does have very friendly staff and it's very clean. You can have dogs outside which is great and they bring water for them. Their other chicken sandwiches is what you should order as those are large and have great flavor. Just the past few trips have had very disappointing salads. read more

I've been to Scratch several times now, enjoyed the food very much and really appreciate that they've expanded their menu with many delicious items. This afternoon I tried the Crab cake Benedict which is supposed to be served with eggs over easy with hollandaise sauce on the crab cakes. The key to this dish lies with the eggs being prepared over easy and having an ample amount of hollandaise. I received my Benedict with fried eggs and barely any hollandaise which made the dish extremely dry. I was in a party of 5 and Scratch was packed, as it usually is so I shut up and ate my lunch. Details do matter in dishes being prepared the way the menu says they are prepared. I did bring some vegan friends and they said their vegan burgers were excellent. I don't want to give up on you, Scratch, I like the variety of the bowls, they are great. read more

Came here recently and enjoyed our meal. Scratch had a dedicated parking lot with a few spots open, so we got to park right next to the restaurant. Always a plus! We were seated immediately, and the server did an excellent job throughout the meal of being present without being annoying. I got the country breakfast plate for my meal since we came during brunch hours and I thought it was super tasty (especially the biscuits!). My wife got a burger and really enjoyed it. Add in a decent beer selection and you have a pretty big winner on your hands. Overall, I'd definitely come back here for some Southern food and good vibes! read more
