Excellent place where you will get service with a smile, great food and choices for everyone! They have indoor and outdoor seating options. The menu features fresh ingredients with many healthy options. Cocktails were delicious and the vibe is family friendly or date night friendly. Prices are reasonable!
Food was DELICIOUS. We got the scratch fries for an appetizer and five burgers for our entrees. The food all had such good flavor and was warm! I had to send my fries back since they weren't crispy, and they nailed them the second go-around. We would absolutely come back next time we are in Cary! Inside is decorated very cute and welcoming, and we were seated right away, though it wasn't a typical meal hour. Ask for Donovan to be your server - he's a sweetheart and was very on top of things for us. Can't recommend him enough!!
We walked from the library to Scratch kitchen- there are no sidewalks we had to push the baby stroller in the street to get to the entrance. Girl waiting on us was friendly but did not come around enough to fill our water. We had to ask another server for water. I had the Tropical bowl with grilled chicken and the dressing on the side. It had good flavor - not very much food for the price- it was only about a quarter of a piece of chicken. The place had music that was almost too loud.
My friends and I met on a chilly rainy evening for dinner. There was a 15 minute wait. We were seated in about 15 minutes. Scratch is pretty inside, and they have plenty of seating inside and outside. We started with appetizers, the loaded fries, the pimento cheese wontons and the crab dip. They were all very good!!! The loaded fries could feed 5 people! I had the shrimp tacos as my meal and they were very good, al little heavy on the cilantro, but very good. One of my friends had the Bibbimap and substituted the beef for salmon. The presentation was beautiful, but it was just ok. The strange rice patty at the bottom was unexpected and hard. My other friend had one of the salads and she enjoyed it. The service was great. I enjoyed my visit and will go back again.
I've been to Scratch Kitchen and Taproom a few times. Their service is consistently good especially if you sit at the bar. The food is kind of a mix of American and southern comfort food. It's a little too rich for me most of the time but the atmosphere is nice and they have lots of outside seating and can accommodate large groups. Street tacos and fried chicken salad are good.
It was late in the afternoon and my daughter was craving breakfast we made a special trek across town for the chicken pancake skillet at Scratch Kitchen! The service was prompt and our brunch order arrived very quickly. We enjoyed every last bite and had a little room to spare for a little crème brûlée. As it was later in the day, the restaurant wasn't too crowded and the playlist was perfection! Can't wait to return the next time a breakfast craving hits.
I was visiting my friend in Raleigh for the weekend and on my first day, we decided to check out Scratch as the pictures on Yelp look enticing. Which overall, our experience was good although our waiter often disappeared and didn't stop by very often. For food, I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese, which was large and pretty decent. Could've used a smidge more seasoning but I enjoyed my meal overall. It's large enough that it could be split between two people. We also got the biscuits as an appetizer and I would say you can definitely pass on them. They tasted almost like an English muffin which is not my favorite. Now for the drinks, those were horrible and it's been awhile since I've had a really bad drink. My friend ordered the 'honey don't be sour' and I got a different one that was recommended by our waiter as it was popular and on the sweet side. Both were terrible, I mean like wow that's bad. I didn't drink it and just decided to drink water instead. My friend finished hers begrudging. Final rating is a 3.5. I would give Scratch another chance but would skip the cocktails the next time I go.
We came out for my birthday dinner (my choice!), and with so many good options around, I ended up going back to Scratch in Apex. It had been a while since our last visit, and this was the perfect excuse. Sunday night, party of five (wife, both boys, and one girlfriend). No wait, no rush, just a nice, easy evening. I went with the pork chop and swapped the collard greens for bacon Brussels sprouts, because after nearly nine years of living here, I still haven't fully acquired the "collard greens appreciation gene." Maybe one day. The portions were very generous, and the three mac 'n' cheese dishes were generous enough that those orderers needed to-go boxes. Meanwhile, the poke bowl and I cleaned our plates. No regrets there, my pork chop was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. Our server, Indiana, was excellent, friendly, attentive, and happy to answer every question we had. Only downside? The restaurant was a bit warm inside. Not unbearable, just enough that we noticed. But that's a small thing compared to the great food, great service, and overall good vibes. Not our first visit, and definitely not our last... honestly, we should come here more often. Solid comfort food, done right.
Came here for brunch after going on a hike with my friends. The food hit the spot. I had the kid's French toast because I downed their mini doughnut hole which tasted like zeppoles . I enjoyed every bite! Would definitely return.

Went for lunch on a Sunday and it was really busy! The parking was a little difficult, but it could have been because there was an arts fair going on nearby at the same time. I got a spot in the parking lot outside, but my friend had to park several blocks away. The servers were super friendly and patient, considering my friend was late due to parking and I had to wait for her for a while. I really liked my salad, topped with salmon. I love a place with healthy options! My friend tried a bunch of appetizers and enjoyed them. We also enjoyed mocktails! For desert we shared the biggest piece of chocolate cake ever. A very nice ambiance with lots of windows. Also not too loud for conversation. Would definitely be back!
I was in Raleigh and stopped here for brunch on the way to the airport. The place was crowded and we were seated right away. Service was excellent, it was the food that didn't do it for me. The menu stated that everything is made from scratch with care and attention to detail, which set high expectations. Coffee for 2 came in a French Press and was quite good. Both my husband and I ordered the same thing: which is unusual, the Crème Brûlée French Toast. It sounded amazing--fresh local sourdough bread, bourbon blueberry maple syrup, vanilla whipped cream, fresh mint. It's served with potatoes, but we were able to sub fresh fruit When the food arrived at our table less than a minute after ordering, I knew something was off. It definitely didn't taste made-from-scratch. The flavors just didn't come together for me: the sourdough was too sour, and the syrup had an overpowering bourbon flavor with barely any maple coming through. It all just felt out of balance. I left disappointed. The place has a great atmosphere and service, maybe we just picked the wrong dish--but for a spot that prides itself on scratch-made food, it missed the mark.

This place is delicious! Came here for dinner while here for a work course. Not too busy at 6 pm on a Friday so we were able to get sat right away. Food was great. Dessert was to die for. Our server was good and attentive. Small parking lot and people parking on the street got tickets in certain areas so be careful about that. Would definitely come back again! read more
We had a good time at Scratch. I ordered the bibimbap bowl. It was $18, a seared rice bowl with steak, spinach, carrots, pickled red onions, cucumbers, and an over easy egg served with spicy bib sauce. The bowl itself was pretty good, and a beautiful presentation. The server was very busy as we had a party of 7, a lot of things (drinks, sauces, tableware, etc.) were forgotten. However, we understood it was busy and things happen. Overall, it was a good time and we enjoyed sitting outside on a nice day. read more
Came in on a Friday night. Parking was pretty easy and the wait wasn't too bad. We had great cocktails from the holiday menu. The pork belly appetizer was great but definitely had a kick to it. It was a pretty large portion for two people. The curry pad Thai was great and flavorful. The seafood boil lo mein was interesting flavor profile. It had a sweet taste to it because of the sauce but I was hoping for more savory flavor profile like a seafood boil. While I will definitely be back I don't think I will get that dish again. read more
I really enjoyed our stop here! On our way to harrahs in Cherokee we randomly picked a place that sounded good and scratch was the winner!!!! My favorite was the pork belly brussel sprouts. I think brussel sprouts in general are so underrated and these were delicious! The bibimbop bowl was so good although I could've done without the spinach. Get the dessert just get it lol they were so tasty and good and I want some as a write this lol! We sat at the bar our service was great. Our bartender gave us all the right suggestions. Point to note: for large groups they do not allow reservations. But they do allow to go in early to secure a table for large groups. As long as part of the group arrives. And this was how we secured a table for dinner. I went with my colleagues for a team dinner. Unfortunately I didn't get many pictures as I was the late person. I did, however, get pictures of my dinner. Server was always checking on us to make sure we were ok. It was impeccable service. There was plenty of seating available. Once you enter the restaurant, there are some booths on the left. And lining the wall. Centrally there is a bar and some tables and some high tables with high chairs. There are a variety of seats that cater to a variety of groups. I ordered a cream ale and it came in a Mason jar. The presentation was special, but the taste of my cream ale was nothing to shout about. My team ordered scratch fries and greenstack for appetizers. Fries came loaded with ribeye steak worcestershire cheese sauce spicy sauce candied bacon and scallions. It was a huge portion even for 11 people. Greenstack. Oh boy. I loved this it's fried green tomato with possibly cheese on top. I don't think any description could do this justice. For my entree, i ordered a bibimbap. Let's just say it's not bibimbsp in the traditional sense. I really was expecting traditional bibimbap.their rendition was not bad. I'm just disappointed I didn't get my fluffy rice but got a lightly fried rice patty instead the vegetables were all fresh. With a fried egg on top drizzled with gochujang. The beef on the rice is more savory than the characteristic mildly sweet bulgogi. The spinach wad raw instead of being sautéed like in real bibimbap. Conveniently located near Bond Brothers brewery this restaurant offers several unique menu options. We ended up making a selection of multiple appetizers. We ordered them one at a time like tapas style. We started with Green Tomatoes stacks (Coconut-Coated Fried Green Tomatoes with Layers of Red Pepper Jam and Coconut-Scallion Cream). All those flavors together were amazing. Then we had the Seared Scallops. Two orange-glazed seared scallops on root vegetable puree with arugula and fennel slaw and a pomegranate tamarind dressing. Then we finished off with Crispy Pork Belly Bites Tossed with Brussels Sprouts in A Thai-Chili Hoisin Glaze, Topped with Scallion Slaw and Sesame Seeds. But we managed to have room for dessert. The Coco Seduction did not disappoint. Everything was delicious and enjoyed a bottle of wine as well. It was a little noisy inside, but outside was perfect. I came here at the recommendation of friends - not much parking so be prepared to spend time finding parking on the street and walking especially if you're arriving during prime times. Overall the food was just "ok" for me, nothing special enough to make me want to return. We ordered several appetizers, one was the skillet cornbread which was unlike any cornbread that I've ever had before. Maybe it's just me, but the bottom third of cornbread had almost a pudding-like consistency, something I have not encountered previously with cornbread. The burgers that were ordered were ok, but nothing remarkable in terms of meat or toppings. Maybe your experience will be much better. read more

Review: Scratch Kitchen & Taproom - Cary, NC We recently had an opportunity to dine at the Scratch Kitchen for lunch with family and the kids and wanted to share a few things about our experience. It was a Sunday afternoon, and we had options of picking from the Lunch menu and the Brunch menu, which provided a ton of options from breakfast, appetizers, salads, bowls, noodles, burgers, and entrees. The options were a bit overwhelming; at one point, several people at the table had to ask the waiter for recommendations because it was a bit too much. As a food critic, it is always very concerning when a restaurant has a ROBUST menu because it's hard to be consistent with the food quality with extensive menus. Entrees Bibimbap Bowl - Seared Rice Bowl with Shaved and Marinated Ribeye Steak, Fresh Spinach, Carrots, Green Onions, Pickled Red Onions, Cucumbers and Over-Easy Egg. Served with Spicy Bib Sauce. This dish really had the perfect combination of flavors, blended together with the tenderness of the steak, the array of colors, tastes, and textures of the vegetables, and the rich, creamy egg overlay on top. My only complaint was that the spicy bib sauce was really spicy. Mind you, the waiter did warn us. It was more than expected. I love spicy, but others may find it overwhelming. Crispy Chicken Sandwich - Waffle-Battered Fried Chicken with Spicy Maple Syrup Aioli, Candied Bacon and House Pimento Cheese with Scratch-Made Pickles. Served on A Locally Made Brioche Bun. This waffle batter chicken was perfectly cooked, crispy, juicy and tender inside, and seasoned to perfection. The maple syrup aioli added an outstanding balance of heat and sweet flavors, adding the smoky sweet candied bacon, with the creamy richness of the pimento cheese and the contrast of flavors with the homemade pickles. The dish was the perfect blend of sweet, savory, and spicy to elevate this sandwich beyond normal expectations. Chicken Dutch Pancake - Dutch baby pancake baked in cast iron with hand-breaded fried chicken, fresh berries, and rosemary lemon maple syrup. I can't really explain what this was. The fried chicken was a superior elevation, just like the sandwich, but the pancake was genuinely questionable. I think we were all very disappointed. My biggest challenge was the texture of the pancake; being more like a "flan" texture, I would almost call it a Flan Pancake. The saving grace of the dish was the flavor profile, with the sweetness of the berries mixed with rosemary maple syrup, which provided citrusy, earthy notes. It was a great blend of savory, sweet, and herbal flavors. OVERALL, it was a great experience. Surprisingly, with all the things on their menu, for the most part, the food was pretty good. I would definitely recommend going. Just dig a little and ask questions before you order. read more

Scratch in Apex is my go to gathering place with friends. Located in the heart of Apex. They have a nice outdoor seating space. They offer bar seating and tables inside. Staff is always friendly, I appreciate the bring hand wipes and a yummy Chex mix. My go to dish is the Bibimbap Bowl, it's yummy and filing. read more

We arrived at 6:30 p.m., and we finished dinner at 9:00. So don't go here for a quick bite to eat. It was a 40 minute wait to get seated, but luckily there was a bar nearby to help the time to pass. Sat down and ordered an appetizer, and it took a while to get out, and it took even longer for the food to get out. You even had to wait 10 min in line to use the restroom. We ended up sharing a bunch of appetizers for dinner. Those were the most interesting things on the menu. They had some really nice grilled shrimp tacos with a flavorful slaw on them. Buffalo cauliflower with blue cheese was very tasty and well cooked. They had some spicy tuna on a rice medallion, but I wouldn't recommend it. The rice was nicely toasted on the outside, but quite mushy on the inside. And the tuna was not very well flavored. The wasabi aioli was tepid. The veggie burger was adequate. One fun thing that they do is they deliver warm towels at the beginning of the meal. read more

Scratch is now one of my favorite restaurants in North Carolina. While in the area a friend recommended we stop in for a meal. There was no wait to dine indoors as many customers were seated outside on the patio. I love the southern decor. Fresh flowers in mason jars, warm towels and beautiful blues and tufted leather. Service was excellent here. Our waitress was Taylor who kindly greeted us and took our order. We decided on firecracker shrimp with pickled Okra for an app, and the Apex & Westminister Abbey burgers for our meal. The Westminister Abbey burger was excellent with truffle fries. Taylor was a awesome waitress who even charged my phone to avoid it dying while dining. This restaurant prides itself on making meals from scratch and a focus on southern hospitality and that's what the experience gave. Scratch is a new favorite for me. With a full bar and delicious southern menu, what else could a girl ask for ? read more
I was in the area to have some car services at the dealership and planned to meet my favorite cousin for lunch. The restaurant definitely had curb appeal. They had seating inside and outside, however, we decided to eat inside. We were seated promptly. It was not busy initially but the crowd began to trickle in as we sat. This was a Monday around 11-1pm. We ordered pork belly tacos as an appetizer. They were so delicious, succulent, and flavorful. I had the Blues Mac and Cheese. It was very cheesy and tasteful. My cousin ordered a Thai bowl (I think). She enjoyed it. The atmosphere was good for us to catch up on things. Really chill environment. The staff was on point with service and checking on us. I will certainly return to experience their Sunday brunch. I heard it was amazing. read more

Atmosphere and service were good! I ordered the scratch Philly. It was good but nothing stood out to me as ..wow. My husband ordered the crispy chicken sandwich. The chicken was huge and we thought the sandwich was good not great but good. They give you complimentary house Chex mix. That was good and so was the beer. All in all not bad. I'd come back and try something different just to see. read more

Scratch Kitchen and Taproom is a great place in the #Raleigh area to meetup with friends or coworkers. Neatly hidden off a less traveled side street in Cary, NC . Scratch is a partnership between two restaurant families with over a dozen successful concepts in this area. Come here to grab some local brews and eat delicious apps. Among the best ones you should get are the Pimento Cheese Wontons, Green Tomato Stacks (definitely a southern thing), and the Scratch Fries ( with Worcestershire Cheese Sauce, and steak)! They have some of the best brews that North Carolina has to offer! It is pretty low key for the ambiance and staff service is great friendly and attentive to the customers. I finally found what I was craving for but just couldn't find no where in Columbia, SC. What was I craving so? PORK BELLY TACOS! The last time I had some was when I went to Chicago about a year ago. And they were great. Now this place here got it going on! Great selection of unique dishes to choose from, a very nice laid back atmosphere along with friendly service. My eyes popped when I saw pork belly tacos and one other dish with pork belly on the menu. The tacos completely satisfied my craving. Will have to check these guys out again before I leave or when I come back. read more

We visited Scratch Kitchen and Taproom in Apex after leaving another local restaurant that we had a bad experience at. Thankfully, the experience here, was much better. We had a pleasant bartender and enjoyed a huge appetizer of smothered fries. In fact, we had ordered an appetizer and a salad to split. However, the appetizer was so big we asked them to cancel the order for the salad. This was a really cute place. I also enjoyed a featured cocktail with Mezcal. I don't recall the name of the cocktail, but it was enjoyable! read more
