We decided to give this place another chance, this time during brunch. The experience was fantastic! Natalie was very nice, and we even got a bakery basket to take home. The food was okay, and the restaurant was busy. However, when I went to the front desk and asked to speak with a manager, no one wanted to talk to me read more

We enjoyed brunch here with friends! The ambiance is really nice and they have outdoor seating options too. The food was tasty and the presentation was beautiful. The Chicken & Waffles was my favorite! The chicken was nice and crispy and the waffle was a sweet corn waffle. It came with these little morsels of grilled peaches and I wish there had been more of them because I could've eaten a whole bowl of them. The Peck and Plume Bowl was my least favorite dish but that's only because it was VERY tart and I wasn't expecting that. It has passion fruit, banana, blueberries, yogurt, granola, coconut flakes, and bee pollen. We also got the Eggs Benedict which came with country ham and wilted spinach on top. The ham was a bit salty but the breakfast potatoes on the side were great and the eggs were cooked perfectly jammy. read more

Came here for bookclub and loved that they had a patio. The food was pretty good, but the service was a bit slow. We had a party of 8, so I can understand that can be overwhelming, but we were the only people outside at the time we were closing out checks. It was hard not to notice. Another thing of note is the parking, it's basically nonexistent unless you get lucky. There is a parking garage near the library that is within walking distance. ALSO, the location is inside of the hotel. That was a bit tricky for us since it was our first time dining here. read more

Waitress and outdoor patio seating were wonderful. Great cocktails and beer selection. Hostess was not extremely welcoming and appeared annoyed that we arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation, and then still made us wait. For a hotel, the food was fine but otherwise was not well seasoned and bland. Good portions and visually pleasing. Shrimp and grits just needed a kick and even with the sauce and ham did not appear to have much of any flavor. This was our first visit and unfortunately our last. Lots of better eateries in Cary and Raleigh that cost the same but have much better food. read more

Came here for birthday dinner with my girlfriends and had a fantastic experience. Connor was awesome and they had a very large party for a wedding rehearsal dinner which is always a possibility for a different experience at a restaurant. The Buratta was amazing as well as the flatbread with a duck confit. I've been here for brunch before, but never for dinner. Did not disappoint read more

It was our first visit. I was pretty excited for the scallops. Unfortunately they are switching chefs so they didn't have them on the menu. We ordered the Butrata instead....but it never came so I can't comment on it. They also didn't take it off the bill which I didn't notice until our drive home. The server was engaging and sweet. He was willing to answer questions but seemed a little weeded. Perhaps he's new. Still her was personable and kind. The drinks, a Dirty Martini and Hibiscus Tonic were fantastic. I'm on a quest to find the best Dirty Martini in the area and this is in contention. I ordered the burger and my husband got the shrimp and grits. We'd say they were "fine". Neither the meat nor shrimp were seasoned. That said they were cooked well. The grits were well done and the relish was on target. The fries were also fantastic. Overall, it was a good experience sitting on the beautiful patio with music coming into the space from the park. With a few tweaks this could get a better rating. read more

Food was terrible! Very salty and poorly prepared. I ordered eggs bennedict and you can judge for yourself... is that hard boiled egg a poached egg at all? My husband ordered chicken and waffles which should come with pickled peaches, they ran out of peaches and served it without saying it first. Would not recommend this place if you are looking for good food. read more

I got an opportunity to return to Peck & Plume. Peck & Plume is located inside the Mayton Inn in Cary. There is no dedicated parking area, but I was able to find parking closeby. We were a large group and dined in the main dining area. We were all seated together. Brian was our server, and very attentive and stayed on top of things. He knew the menu well and offered suggestions for some in the group. It did get loud when the dining area was about half full. But I do love the restaurant's decor. I went with the local lettuces salad this time and added grilled shrimp. I expected more than four pieces of shrimp, though, for a $25 salad. I did enjoy both, but wouldn't spend that again, knowing what I'd be getting. The Benedict changes week to week, and that week's special didn't appeal to me but that is normally what I'd order for brunch. It is too bad they don't have the classic version on the menu alongside the special of the week. We were given separate checks, and my iced teas kept coming, so my glass never went empty. When it warms up, I might like to try dining on the terrace. read more

This place is so pretty! Such elegance and is large! They have a great bar area and make tasty cocktails. Our server was friendly, helpful and attentive. The beet salad was delicious, and the pork shoulder was good. The risotto had good flavor but was sticky. The huge disappointment was the filet. It was cooked correctly, but it did not have a filet texture or taste. Skip it if you go. The broccolini was cooked perfectly. read more

Always excellent service and delicious brunch. I've been here several times for brunch. It's my go to brunch spot to bring my family or out of town friends. Not only is it located in the beautiful Mayton Inn but also in the heart of downtown Cary. Always nice to stroll around downtown Cary to walk off the calories after a visit to Peck & Plume. At Peck & Plume you won't have any leftovers. You'll want to devour every bite right then and there. The brunch menu is constantly changing and it is never disappointing but I can say their eggs Benedict and shrimp & grits are musts. UPDATE: I had been here for Sunday brunch when it was called Verandah many years ago but recently had the chance to experience weekday breakfast at the now Peck & Plume inside The Mayton in downtown Cary. The aesthetic itself is still very nice inside, very sharply done with a combination of finished wood and modern looks with nice contrasts. Since it was very early, I had the indoor seating area to myself this day. I was started off quickly with coffee and water, with a breakfast menu to look over. There were many things that stood out on the menu that looked delicious but I went with their Two Eggs Breakfast selection that comes with choice of bacon, pork or chicken sausage (I chose the latter); choice of breakfast potatoes, fruit, or cheddar grits (again, went with the latter); and choice of white/wheat/sourdough toast or biscuit (again going with the latter). It was a bit of a wait for preparation/arrival of my meal but nothing extremely long. When it arrived, I was a bit surprised that the food presentation was a bit less than what I would expect from this type of restaurant (I did like the plate itself looking a bit "Seagrove pottery-esque" in appearance). However, the taste of the food was great and I enjoyed all my selections including my scrambled eggs. The grits were good and creamy, not thin, excellent consistency. If splitting hairs, I'd say the biscuit was just a little too browned for my taste but still, it was a good biscuit nonetheless here. My server was very nice and helpful throughout. I enjoyed my weekday breakfast visit here at Peck & Plume and would come back anytime in the future. read more

The hub and I stopped in for a pre-dinner cocktail in the lounge. They were hosting live jazz, which was nice. No one camped to take our order, so we went to the bar. I can't comment on the food because we didn't order any, but the NA cocktails were delicious. read more

First time visiting Peck & Plume for brunch and I STAN! Justin was a gracious host and server who offered great suggestions on the menu. Hubs and I settled on the Huevos Rancheros, bacon, eggs, and the French toast brick-- all fantastic! We also tried and loved the Mayton mimosa and the cold fashioned from the brunch cocktail menu. Superb! I had the distinct pleasure of meeting BOB, manager extraordinaire, who was effortlessly serving lewks, gorgeous hair, and grace while setting up for an event and floating through the dining room. I'm a huge fan! All in all, this experience was by far our favorite brunch in Cary thus far, and we'll be back real soon as there are at least 3 more brunch items on the menu that I need to try. Thanks for the great time & vibes-- Cheers! read more

My mom chose this place to celebrate her birthday!! It's inside of the Mayton Hotel. Parking was kind of a hassle but once that was figured out we were good. AS SOON as you enter the front doors it smells AMAZING inside. We were seated fairly quickly and our waitress did an excellent job with recommendations. It appears the menu always changes. Starters: Wings(MUST TRY), Tuna Crudo(I enjoyed it) and the Pork & Pimento Cheese Fondue. I was excited to take the fondue home to have for the next day then we found a string of hair in the fondue, we informed our waitress and the manager came over and apologized and resolved the issue. Outside of that the starters were good. Entrees around the table: Ribeyes, Burgers, Spare Ribs and a Chicken Sandwich. No complaints with any of these. My son said he wished he had a bigger portion of the Spare Ribs. Desserts: Lemon Poundcake with strawberries and gelato(the cake was not moist at all, the strawberries and gelato were definitely the stars on the plate hands down. We also ordered the donuts and coffee, you get 3 small donuts(DELICIOUS) and chocolate gelato, I'm not really a chocolate person so that was just ok in my opinion. Overall everyone enjoyed themselves. I think next time we will come for brunch to see what that's like. read more

This place was lovely! It's inside of a hotel space so you have to make sure you look for it but once you're inside, it's truly a well decorated piece of property! We sat in the "library" for a bit while the rest of our party arrived which was comfy. Once our entire party arrived, we were sat in the dining room which was very spacious. Our server was very friendly and speedy the entire meal. I got the shrimp and grits which were delicious. This bowl was huge and I ended up having leftovers to take back. I think my favorite bite was the grits, bacon jam, and egg - so good! Not pictured was my Pama Sour drink which was also tasty. Overall, a really cool place to check out! read more

We wandered into Peck & Plume on a Sunday afternoon thinking we'd grab a quick lunch--plot twist: it was brunch-only. But hey, when life hands you brunch, you lean in. I ordered the Avocado Toast and was pleasantly surprised when the server mentioned they had gluten-free bread available (not listed on the menu--bonus points for that!). The avocado was sliced instead of the usual smashed mush, which actually made for a really fresh, clean bite. There were some big flakes of salt on top that added the perfect hit of flavor. I would've loved a little cheese crumble to round it out, but that's just my inner food diva talking. The real scene-stealer? The outdoor seating. 5 stars. Charming, relaxing, and perfectly placed in adorable Downtown Cary--ideal for soaking up some sunshine with your mimosa (or, in my case, espresso martini). Service was on point--friendly, quick, and helpful. Our food came out fast, and everyone seemed genuinely happy we were there, which always makes a difference. Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I ask for cheese on my avo toast next time? Also yes. read more

Went to Peck & Plume for the first time with 7 people. The restaurant was very nice inside and was fitting for a nice dinner. The service was very good and they were on top of making sure our drinks were filled. I got the NY strip and it was good the only thing I wish is that it came with mashed potatoes. A few others that were with me had the short rib and well they said it was good it didn't just fall apart like others. It was a little tougher but flavor was there. read more

Outstanding ambiance for breakfast, brunch or otherwise. It's conveniently located near the main lobby of the Mayton hotel. The staff at the hotel was so welcoming, the same goes for the restaurant. We had brunch in their library and it was all decked out for the holiday. What a neat space. Our server was personable. But I wasn't impressed with our brunch. Their drip coffee is great. For my entree, I had The Benediction. And the weekly twist was dill and chive in the hollandaise sauce which wasn't that big of a twist for me. The ham was more of a pork chop than the usual ham. The meat was so thick and dry. The breakfast potatoes were even sadder. The flavors were all there but it was so mushy! The grits that my partner had were delicious. The fruit preserves for his biscuit were too sweet. Our server didn't check up on us or refill our coffee after she took our order. She did apologize at the end when she brought our checks. It's the holiday season and we came on a weekend so we understand. read more

Peck & Plume is located inside The Mayton Hotel in downtown Cary, overlooking the main park. The setting alone makes it worth a visit. The hotel property is charming and thoughtfully designed, with a mix of tables, sofas, and comfortable chairs that create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. We arrived 3/4 past noon and chose to sit in the study/library area rather than the main dining room. I would strongly recommend this option. The study is quiet and comfortable, while the main restaurant area was noticeably louder. The proximity allows you to enjoy the ambiance without the noise. The menu offerings felt fairly typical for this style of restaurant. We tried the skillet cornbread. It was served room temperature and on the dry side. However, the whipped butter that accompanied it was excellent. Unfortunately, the cornbread was not warm enough to melt it, which would have improved the experience. The Italian wedding soup was very good and served properly hot. We also ordered the local lettuces salad with chicken. The salad itself was fresh, but the chicken was visibly dry and tasted the same. Interestingly, placing the chicken into the soup made it more enjoyable. The double cheeseburger was average. The bun struggled to hold together under the two patties and cheese. The flavor was acceptable but not memorable. Our server was exceptional. Attentive, professional, and gracious throughout the meal. The service elevated the the mediocre experience. Overall, Peck & Plume offers a beautiful setting and excellent service. For a quieter meal, request the study/library seating. While the food was satisfactory, it did not quite match the charm of the surroundings. Would we go again? Maybe. If we did, we would order different items. But, we would request Brian as the server. read more

Went for Sunday Brunch to celebrate a birthday. None of us had been. The ambience is great. Very welcoming and relaxing setting. We were seated promptly outside on the patio. Our server was with us quickly and very attentive throughout. If you like spicy Bloody Marys, this one was spot on! Very tasty with a big bite. We all really liked our food - avocado toast, breakfast burrito, burger, and croque madame. Generous portions and very tasty. Everyone was very impressed and we'll definitely be back. The reason for 4 stars? The flies were unbearable. The waiter said they're always bad this time of year. How about investing in those little fly deterrent fans? Would have made the entire experience better. Also, we didn't plan well as it was lazy daze weekend. Parking not good! Despite those inconveniences, it was a great experience! read more

Grabbed lunch here recently and had an OK experience. Well, I say lunch, but it was actually brunch :) I was a little surprised that we weren't given a lunch menu since we ate around 11:30 AM, but not a huge deal. We snagged a table inside for our family - it would have been even nicer to eat outside, but all of those tables were taken, unsurprisingly. Our server did a pretty good job of being present throughout our meal, especially since the restaurant was pretty busy. I ordered the deconstructed lox bagel for myself, while my wife got the burger with a side Caesar salad. The food arrived reasonably quickly, and it was pretty tasty! My lox bagel had all of the different ingredients laid out on the plate in piles (smoked salmon, cucumber, capers, and pickled onions) as well as cream cheese in a small bowl. I'm not really sure why they didn't just make the bagel for me - I guess some people like choosing how much of each ingredient to put on their bagel? Anyway, everything tasted good! My wife liked her burger OK but it didn't blow her away. One shocking thing was that the kids' meal was $15, which was virtually the same price as my lox bagel ($17) and my wife's burger ($16)! We got a side of fruit for my toddler instead, which was only $5 and had a surprisingly low percentage of melon :) Normally it's like 80% melon! They also provided crayons for coloring the kids' menu, which is always a nice touch. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience at all, but I'm not sure I would come back here for lunch (or brunch), especially with my kids. The food was decent but not outstanding, and the $15 price tag for the kids' lunch was very surprising. read more

Very disappointed and not someone to write negative reviews, I typically just do not return. Have visited many times happily, but yesterday, we waited 15 minutes for a server, we ordered wine. When server came back for food order, we were told that the manager was the only person who could retrieve the bottle of wine we ordered and it would be a yet another 15 minutes beyond that. So, we did not order food because we would have food arrive wine and would have to guzzle it rather than enjoy the meal. So, after being seated and ordering wine, they projected time was 45 minutes for it to come, we were sitting 30 minutes without anything. In the end, we left. I know it was busy, BUT the same thing happened the previous time we went a month or so ago and there were only 5 tables of diners. That time, the wine came well after the meal because we were told that the manager was the only one with the key to retrieve the wine. This is meant to advise them that they need a better system. The wait staff was wonderful but put in odd position due to this wine retrieval situation; as if they cannot be trusted to get the wine ordered. We left without a meal and was very disappointing on our day off and had been looking forward to dining at Peck & Plume. 2 times, this makes us hesitate to return. read more

I was looking for a good weekend brunch/lunch spot in Cary and Peck & Plume fit the bill. The Yelp reviews were generally accurate. This place is popular. During our Saturday visit, the dining room and outdoor patio were full and busy. Book your reservation using OpenTable and earn dining points that can be used for discounts at other OpenTable restaurants, Amazon gift cards, and more. Not all restaurants on OpenTable award dining points, but Peck & Plume does, so that's a plus. Peck & Plume opened in August 2021 inside The Mayton. The Mayton was formerly known as The Mayton Inn. Per Cary Magazine, after The Mayton Inn was bought out of bankruptcy in June 2020, it rebranded as The Mayton (they dropped the "Inn" part). It's downtown Cary's only boutique hotel: https://www.carymagazine.com/food-and-dining/welcome-back-to-the-mayton/ I suggest parking in the library parking deck at 113 Walnut St. It's a short walk through the park and up the sidewalk to The Mayton. We had reservations at 11:45am on a Saturday. At that time, there was an event going on in downtown Cary. All street parking around The Mayton was taken. The library deck had plenty of free parking, however. The cuisine is New American. The restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday, 10am-2:30pm. At brunch, the menu (food and drinks) was a simple one-pager. Here's what our group of four adults and two kids ordered: Brunch Cocktails * Bloody Mary x2 (charged $14 each, menu said $12) - Tito's Handmade Vodka, hand-crafted Bloody Mary mix Soups & Salads * Soup of the Day (sip size, $2) Mains * Two Eggs plate ($15) - applewood-smoked bacon, pork sausage, garlic cheese grits, wheat toast * Warm Stone Fruit Preserves ($15) - biscuits, applewood-smoked bacon, garlic cheese grits * French Toast Brick ($17) - mixed berry crush, mascarpone * Smoked Salmon Scramble ($19) - smoked salmon, dill, chive and brie in a pastry shell with petite mixed green salad * Mayton Burger (charged $15, menu said $14) - aged cheddar, Academy Street Steak Sauce, lettuce, tomato, brioche * Side of Bacon (4 strips for $5) - not on menu * Side of Ranch Dressing ($0.50) - not on menu We shared the Mains. Overall, I thought the food was good, not great. Generally, the quality of the food looked and tasted like it came from a nicer sit-down breakfast restaurant chain like First Watch. It didn't have much of a "local" or "homemade" feel to it, to me. The biscuits weren't the best -- perhaps slightly better than average. I think they could've been moister and fluffier. My favorite dish was the French Toast Brick. I think it's called "Brick" because of its brick-like shape. It was French toast smothered in a sweet and tangy berry sauce with whipped mascarpone. Delicious. Yummy texture too. My wife really liked the Warm Stone Fruit Preserves. I thought it and the Smoked Salmon Scramble were tasty. The Smoked Salmon Scramble was well made. The garlic cheese grits were terrific. You get to choose them as part of the Two Eggs plate (the other choice is breakfast potatoes). They're included with the Warm Stone Fruit Preserves. The Mayton Burger and bacon were solid as well, but nothing to write home about. All that said, nothing was bad and I don't think you can go wrong with anything in the list of items we ordered above. My wife and I enjoyed the Bloody Marys. The Bloody Mary is one of our favorite cocktails and Peck & Plume's version hit the spot. I liked their twist with the cornichon, green olive, and pepperoncini. Yum. Service from our server, Hadley, and the hostess was great. Despite a busy brunch service, Hadley was attentive and everything was served in a timely manner. Peck & Plume and The Mayton have a classy-yet-casual, modern, Southern atmosphere. We ate in the main dining room. There's also a large private event space, the terrace (outdoor patio), and study. The study is a cool space, but it's more like a lounge for drinks rather than a meal. However, I believe you can order food from there. The study has a charming brick storefront with white columns and rocking chairs on the porch. read more

There is always a great excuse to come to downtown Cary. The vibe, the park, the liveliness, and the food. We found out about Peck & Plume and felt we had to check out. The restaurant itself is located within the hotel which is something we didn't know but quickly fell in love with. Lots of great seating options, from semi formal, lounge, bar, and patio. We were blessed with Patio seating, which had views of downtown Cary park. It was a perfect weather day and it was great to sit out there. When we first saw the menu, we did think it was a little basic, but quickly learned that you can do a lot with the basics. For drinks we had coffee and a Bloody Mary, (spicy to my liking). I got the huevos rancheros and my wife got the fried green tomatoes. Back to taking about "basics", check out the pictures. The huevos rancheros came in a light crispy tortilla bowl. With everything inside, the eggs were cooked perfectly the protein was savory and succulent and the sauce was fantastic. My wife had the friend green tomatoes which are a staple, but they came eggs Benedict style and they were perfect. The crispiness of the tomatoes, paired with the beautifully done poached eggs and green hollandaise sauce was simply the best breakfast food. We had a birthday gathering on Mar. 16th. I ordered the short rib dish. This was the second time I went there for dinner and ordered the short rib. The first time I received a fatty short rib. More fat than meat. I've had short ribs at different restaurants and they were delicious. This in no way compared. This last time I went, I received shredded short rib meat over ( I forget what the starch was, which was tasty) , the shredded meat could not of been more than 2 ozs. of meat, if that. I wish I had taken a picture, so you would know that I am not exaggerating. Brussel sprouts were delicious. Then when everyone was checking out, I looked at my sister's bill, as she bought my birthday meal, they had tacked on a charge that was almost as large as the tip. I had recently read about restaurants adding these charges. Calling them different things and getting away with it most of the time. If you notice this being done, you have the right to request that they remove it. I did just that and they immediately removed it, no questions asked. I find that insulting. If anyone else has had a similar experience, I wish they would let the public know. They do have some good food, just not short ribs. Service was good and so was atmosphere. read more

We had a retirement brunch here for a colleague and it was a lovely experience. The dining room is very cute and the coffee was very good. They have a good menu with a lot of different options. I got the egg breakfast and I really enjoyed it. The only reason I am deducting a star is because it took quite a long time to have the order taken and for the food to come. We did not have our order taken for about an hour, however, I think there was a misunderstanding with our server as I think they thought we are waiting on one more person. It was not their fault, just a misunderstanding! After the order was taken, it did take about another 40 minutes for the food to come which seemed a but long for breakfast food. I didn't mind as I was very much enjoying the company and the food was good once we did receive it! They also provided our friend a sundae as a happy retirement acknowledgment which was lovely. I would certainly return for brunch. read more

If you're planning to dine at Peck & Plume, I'd strongly recommend avoiding the tables in the bar area. The noise level there is overwhelming.... you'll hear every ding, clink, and clatter of the entire restaurant , but still struggle to hear the person sitting right next to you. On top of that, the acoustics of the room amplify everything, so conversations from nearby tables carry loudly and make it even harder to focus. It really takes away from what could otherwise be an enjoyable experience. read more
