    Bone marrow

Saw this restaurant as a go-to for Raleigh and didn't disappoint at all! We got reservations and the spot is nice in terms of layout and interior. Food was so flavourful and delicious, with great portions and reasonable price as well! We got the bone marrow beef tartare, which was phenomenal. Even their biscuits were tasty. I got the Ahi Steak Tuna special, which was tasty but not on their regular menu I believe. Drinks were tasty as well. Service was kind and attentive. I would recommend going here for great food and vibes!

I was visiting Raleigh for a few days and did not know what to expect from the culinary scene. Was very impressed with this place!! The ambiance was moody and romantic and the food was delicious. I wouldn't skip dessert here-- there were some great options. My highlight of the meal was the staff. They were so attentive and gave us great recommendations for nightlife in the area. Make sure to check out the basement bar below the restaurant!

    Biscuits. Must order

I was in town visiting my college girlfriends - the absolute best kind of friends, if you ask me. The local gal made the reservation, knowing full well I'm a lover of fine grub. She mentioned the biscuits were legendary, and as a self-declared biscuit snob, my expectations were sky-high. Let me clarify: I like my biscuits layered and crisp, not the soft, fluffy kind. My preference requires real effort; laminated dough, cold butter, serious technique that I have never been able to master (sigh). Years ago, I worked with a woman in Oakland who had a side hustle making the best biscuits I'd ever had, loaded with butter and buttermilk. They remain my gold standard, but these are VERY memorable with a nice herby taste. and have officially made my Top 5. We ordered one plate (4 biscuits). Then another. I tried to push for a third, but my friends refused (sadly) I must've blacked out from biscuit joy, because I completely forgot to snap a pic of my entree. It was pork-based, I finished it, and it was good... I think? (Cocktails may have played a role.) Moral of the story: Just go. Get the biscuits. And enjoy the rest as a bonus.

Date night at Crawford and Son was everything! I can't wait to go back; the cozy, intimate vibe and top-tier service made the night feel so special. Every dish told its own little story, and the desserts... unreal! Here's a peek at what we had Charred Octopus with chickpea salad: smoky, tender, and full of flavor. Steelhead Trout Crudo with strawberry gazpacho, rhubarb & elderflower ice: vibrant, refreshing, and totally Instagram-worthy! Spring Fling; strawberry + mezcal = my new obsession. Grilled Denver Steak was juicy perfection! Paired with potato pavé, asparagus, and a dreamy spring onion sabayon. Manchego-Herb Biscuits : I could honestly eat a basket of these. No regrets. Crème Fraîche Semifreddo with strawberry, chiffon cake & white chocolate anglaise : so delicate, yet bursting with bright, beautiful flavor. I highly recommend this for your next date night

Reservations are the way to go at this restaurant. We had an early Friday night reservation and were promptly seated when we walked in. We started with drinks. I got the mezcal cocktail, ace of spades, and it hit all the notes on the menu. We also got the Manchego herb biscuits which were, in my opinion, the best thing that we got here. I would go back for these alone. We also got the brandade as a starter and even though we asked what it was, I'm not exactly sure what it was. My husband ordered the seared cod and raved about it for days on end. I got the flat iron steak which tasted like it was cooked sous vide, so it was perfectly medium rare;however, it would have been elevated if it had just had a minute or two on a hot grill. The flavor was there but the texture was just mushy. The service was speedy, but we didn't feel rushed. I thought the vibe was pretty cool, dark and mysterious, though it was definitely an older crowd.

Had my birthday dinner here. It was great! Located in Fenton, beautiful building inside and out. I love the dark feel and comfortable seating. The service was good. Staff is friendly and the food is good. I really enjoyed the oysters, they was so fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend dining here.

Chef special French sausages en croute with shaved truffle, fois gras, pureed rutabaga and some dort of french onion sauce.

Excellent service, excellent food. Enjoyed the buttermilk fried quail, braised short rib, chive cheese biscuits, swordfish, and chef special french sausages en croute.

Roasted monkfish so good! With roasted turnips, lardo, and a tempura leaf.

Great meal there wasn't a bad bit in the meal. It was also partnered with some lovely cocktails. The service was great as well as the rest of the staff that dropped off food and drinks. Finished the night off with the panna cotta it was shush a great way to end the meal! The meal was salt forward so if you're not into well seasoned food you might skip this restaurant. But I found the salt level brave and border line crazy (in a good way) every dish was cooked well and hand amazing depth. The place was a little dark for our liking but we were lucky enough to sit next to the window. Allowed for great people watching and lighting for our very important food pictures. If I find myself back in the area I will not hesitate to reserve a table here.

The food was so bomb. Really enjoyed date night dinner here. Everything was rich and succulent in preparation, plating, and flavor. The drinks were good, wine selection worked well with my dinner. 10/10 recommend. Will be back to get the dishes that I didn't order last time.

I went to Crawford & Son last week while on a business trip and sat by myself at the bar. Everyone was extremely hospitable, kind, and down to Earth. It's dark and cozy instead and not a super large space, but it's utilized very well. I went with a mocktail (Dry January and all..) and it was so refreshing! Next came my entree, the Lions Mane Mushroom with very creamy mashed potatoes and I'm convinced this is the best mushroom dish I will ever have for the rest of my life. I miss it and think about it often! Thank you for keeping me company during my solo visit - I hope it make it back again someday!

We had a great experience at Crawford & Son. The food, drink, and service were all excellent. This is one of the best restaurants we've been to in the Triangle. The cuisine is New American. Reservations are recommended. There were barely any left when we looked for a Saturday reservation about two weeks out. Crawford & Son is open for dinner only. Every seat in the dining room and at the bar were taken at one point during our visit. I saw walk-ins get turned away. You can book reservations through Crawford & Son's website via Tock: http://crawfordandsonrestaurant.com/ Sorry, no OpenTable points here. This restaurant has been around since November 2016. It's located in downtown Raleigh's Historic Oakwood neighborhood, in the same strip as Oakwood Pizza Box. There's no dedicated parking. Free street parking is available in the residential area around the block (e.g., Pace St, N Bloodworth St). Read the signs for parking restrictions. This isn't a big restaurant, but it's not tiny either. The dining room and bar share the same space. There are some tables in the front and then a long banquette that runs the length of the bar and more. The layout is similar to Jolie French bistro, Crawford & Son's sister restaurant next door (opened August 2019). Unlike Jolie, Crawford & Son doesn't have nearly as much outdoor patio seating (only a couple two-tops) nor rooftop seating (none). Chef-owner Scott Crawford opened a third restaurant, Crawford Cookshop in Clayton, in December 2021. The ambiance here is elevated, but not pretentious. The restaurant definitely has a hip vibe, but it's not overdone either. It's comfortable. The menu was fairly simple and straightforward. To give you an idea of the number of selections, our party of four tried one of every cocktail (4) and one of every entree (4). Below is a list of what we ordered. It'll also give you an idea of what kind of food and drink to expect, along with pricing. Cocktails * Komodo ($16) - gin, blood orange, shiso, Montenegro * Dungeon Dragon ($16) - tequila, grapefruit, lemon verbena, campari * Spiritual Gangster ($16) - Mezcal, mulled wine, falernum, cynar * BB King ($16) - bourbon, brown butter, PX sherry, bitters Appetizers * Little Gem Caesar ($17) - truffle pecorino, cured duck egg, fried garlic * Grilled Clam Toast ($16) - focaccia, nduja, chimichurri, pickled onion Raw * Yellowfin Tuna Crudo ($18) - garum vinaigrette, winter radish, ginger ice Entrees * Lion's Mane Mushroom Schnitzel ($28) - caper cream, cauliflower, lemon confit * Pan Roasted Sea Trout ($36) - blood orange beurre blanc, trout roe, root vegetables * Duck Breast ($45) - Sarladaises potato, glazed pearl onion, black currant sauce * Beef Short Rib ($37) - crispy shallot salad, hakurei turnip, sweet, sour, and savory glaze Save Room / Desserts * Vanilla Tapioca Pudding ($12) - creme fraiche, honeycrisp apple granita * Parsnip Spice Cake ($13) - ginger ice cream, maple carrot, walnuts After Dinner Drinks * Big Mac dessert drink ($16) - Macvin, hazelnut, egg cream * Special "Banana Flip" (not on menu, $17) - banana liqueur, egg cream Everything was outstanding. The presentation was absolutely beautiful. Visually stunning. The plating was some of the best I've seen in the Triangle. Probably top five in that regard (just take a look at my pictures). Thought and care was evident in each dish and cocktail. They looked like works of art. Everything was creative, well executed, and tasted as good as it looked. My wife, who's especially picky with cocktails, said the Komodo was one of the best cocktails she's had anywhere. The flavors were balanced and smooth. The color was unexpectedly clear despite being made with blood orange. That's because they filtered the cocktail using curdled milk. The Dungeon Dragon was memorable because instead of just a salt rim, citric acid was added too, to give two flavors: salty and sour. The Grilled Clam Toast popped with colors, textures, and flavors. It was savory and unique. The Yellowfin Tuna Crudo was fresh and citrusy. Both the Sea Trout and Duck Breast were perfectly cooked and delicious. The trout was the best I've had in recent memory. I love mushrooms and was impressed with the hearty and satisfying Mushroom Schnitzel. Little things like the way they cut the cauliflower and lemon - the latter into thin edible slices - really showed the kitchen staff's attention to detail. The Vanilla Tapioca Pudding was phenomenal. The consistencies were terrific with creamy and appetizingly chewy tapioca topped with delicately flaky granita. Service was fantastic. Our server was Sydney. She was kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. Everyone else we interacted with was great too, from the hostesses/managers to our food runner. One of the hostesses/managers noticed me trying to Shazam a song. She brought over an iPad and let me take a picture of the song on the restaurant's playlist. Very thoughtful of her. That kind of service is above and beyond.

Incredible experience at Crawford & Son! Staff was amazing. Sausage Longganisa appetizer was excellent. My husband and I each ordered the bone marrow beef tartare because we didn't want to share it! He almost couldn't finish his. Everything was filling and delicious. Great ambiance and absolutely loved the bathroom wallpaper!

Do they offer vegan and vegetarian options?

One of my dining companions was vegetarian and she enjoyed the small plates and appetizers which were vegetarian and some were vegan. Not sure if they offer Vegan entrees.

The place was crowded but there was no wait. I got seated immediately at a table near a column in the middle of the restaurant and Christy came over and asked if I wanted anything to drink. She brought me iced water and gave me time to look at the menu. I wanted to try so many things and I was too optimistic about ordering 3 things and finishing them myself. Good thing I only ordered 2 things! An order of fried catfish with home fries and one egg. And a biscuit with sausage gravy. The fried catfish was salted and well fried. It tasted delicious for my first bite! The home fries were basically cut potatoes, but they weren't very fried or flavored. I wished I ordered the side of apple sauce instead. The biscuit and sausage was good, but a bit too much for one person after eating a separate order already. Definitely bring more people so you can try more things. Also, I wished I had asked for sausage gravy on the side so I can try the biscuit on its own first as well. Furthermore, I would have more time to eat the catfish so I wasn't worried about the biscuit getting soggy. Christy came to check up on me every now and then. The place was buzzing with people and decorations so I didn't feel so alone. When it was time to pay, Christy brought me the check for me to pay at the cash register. Both Christy and the cashier were so friendly! The restaurant does have a women's and a mens restroom if needed.

The bones feel nostalgic, but the overall vibe is current and lively. It's the kind of place that feels familiar but still cool. Service Service is where things really clicked. Our server knew the menu inside out and guided us through it with confidence. Every recommendation landed. It also felt like one of those menus where it would be hard to order poorly. The Food The menu leans comfort food with a modern edge, and it's done really well across the board. We started with a Caesar salad with dill pickle dressing, which sounds like it shouldn't work but absolutely does. Bright, fresh, and just different enough to be interesting without trying too hard. The beet salad was also excellent, clean flavors and well balanced. Then came the pimento cheese with fried crackers. This might have been the sleeper hit. The crackers are dangerously good. Simple idea, executed perfectly, and hard to stop eating. For mains, the fried chicken was solid but didn't stand out the same way the starters did. The short rib pot pie, on the other hand, was exactly what you want from a dish like that. Rich, flaky, and deeply comforting. Overall Poole's is the kind of place where everything feels considered, from the space to the service to the food. It's approachable, well executed, and very easy to enjoy.

Our starter of roasted beets had an incredible blend of buttermilk blue cheese with white balsamic thyme, pickled pumpkin, and Marcona almonds. So yummy. Then my husband and I shared the Ricotta Gnocchi that we agree is the BEST gnocchi we have ever had the privilege of eating. So light in spite of a duck bolognese being the sauce. Fried rosemary sparked my home chef mind for future meals! We also shared the Brussels sprout upon Brittany's recommendation. One of the most unique preparations on Brussels sprouts ever with oyster mushrooms and a sherry cream sauce. We typically pass on dessert, but the description of their Pear Tart Tatin coupled with Kylie's verbal description hooked us and we were thrilled to enjoy every bite of the hazelnut praline ice cream that is part of this beautiful dessert.

A Classic Diner Experience in Downtown Raleigh…read more Anyone who follows me knows two things I love very much: breakfast and diners (along with other short-order restaurants). I definitely found a gem in Glenwood South that immediately reminded me of the classic diners I grew up with in New Jersey. For readers unfamiliar with Jersey diners: think a no-nonsense, sit-down restaurant serving breakfast all day, great coffee, generous portions, and a menu built around eggs, griddle items, comfort food, and attentive table service. Tucker Street Diner delivers that same spirit--just set in the fashionable Glenwood South neighborhood rather than along a highway. Tucker Street Diner is located within the Smoky Hollow mixed-use development in the Glenwood South area of downtown Raleigh. Smoky Hollow is a large, modern complex featuring retail, restaurants, Class-A office space, structured parking, and residential units. The diner occupies ground-level retail space in the office building at 421 North Harrington Street, right at the corner of the pedestrian promenade along Tucker Street. The restaurant is designed as a modern American diner with nostalgic retro touches--checkerboard floors and glossy booths--blended with contemporary comfort and urban flair. It clearly evokes classic diner aesthetics while catering to a diverse downtown crowd. The menu focuses on classic American diner fare: all-day breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, specialty comfort food, and blue-plate specials. Breakfast options include pancakes, eggs, bacon, burritos, and creative dishes such as breakfast burritos and open-face sandwiches with gravy. Desserts, milkshakes, and coffee/espresso drinks are also available. I visited early on a Friday morning during New Year's week. I was greeted warmly and quickly served a solid, classic diner cup of coffee (likely a medium roast). Even with limited office activity that morning, the diner still had a steady flow of customers. I ordered the chicken-fried steak with two sunny-side-up eggs, home fries, and rye toast. The steak was nicely breaded, and the white gravy--served on a separate plate--was rich and flavorful. The eggs were perfectly cooked. The home fries were cubed potatoes (different from the shredded style often found up north) and were very good. Large slices of buttered rye toast, topped with both grape and strawberry jelly, rounded out what was a very satisfying breakfast. Portions were generous for the price, and the overall value felt right for a downtown, full-service diner--especially given the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the service. The classic diner theme and attention to cleanliness extended even to the gender-neutral restrooms, one of which is accessible. The accessible restroom was occupied at the time, so I used the other; it was clean, pleasantly scented, and well stocked. In short, Tucker Street Diner feels like a Jersey diner dropped into a Southern downtown--comfort food, eggs, and gravy instead of biscuits--with a welcoming atmosphere and reliable execution. I left full, satisfied, and already planning a return visit.
