This was our first time visiting and first time visiting Apex, NC. We were greeted and seated right away. Everybody was very nice and attentive. They made suggestions based off questions we had about the menu and told us their favorite dishes. We started off with the burrata and oysters. For entrees we had the pork chop and the blackened salmon. Food was delicious. For dessert we finished with a dark chocolate peanut butter brownie , would definitely recommend that , husband loves the pork chop and I thought my salmon was good. The restaurant looks small however they have a second floor, which we did not see as we were seated on the main floor. Noise level is pretty moderate. I would definitely come back. read more

My son and his wife hosted their wedding dinner here and it was awesome! Upstairs in a private room. Joe and Camilla were very attentive to all of our needs. Joe was very helpful in helping me make an awesome drink choice. They make their own syrups. Appetizers, entrees and desserts were truly enjoyable. Three Chef Kisses! This was my first time at The Provincial. We didn't have a reservation but we were able to seated upstairs but facing a wall so not ideal seating. I would recommend reservations since seating is limited. Started off with Asian Spiced Jumbo Wings. They were nicely cooked and very flavorful but there was a slightly odd aftertaste. For my entrée, I had the Grilled Cheshire Pork Chop. The pork chop was nicely cooked and flavorful. The cheddar scalloped potatoes were so unbelievably delicious and the broccolini was cooked nicely as well. Had the Rum Raisin Brioche Bread Pudding which was yummy. Probably the best steak I've ever had. I normally hate carrots but even those on the side were amazing. Potatoes amazing. Fries amazing. Everybody in my group enjoyed their food. We had a reservation and we didn't get sat until 10-15 minutes after it. The general service was also very slow. But the fact I'm still giving it 5 stars should tell you how good the food is. So if you don't mind an expensive price tag and have all night to use then this is worth it! read more

First time customers trying to support local business. Upstairs table requested with 5:30 reservation for 4 people. The table was located right next to the small bar. I requested to not be near bar and on a table when I made reservation. The people and bar tender were very loud. The small round table rocked along with the uncomfortable wooden chairs. An open carafe of water on table, when we arrived. The dinky candle was ridiculous. The little chandelier over the table made shadows that made it difficult to read. menu. The food was fair tasting, not awful. But served on dinky plates. My hamburger and greens and pickles overlapped on dish the made brioche bun soggy. The greens dressing had to much vinegar. Presentation not very appetizing. The wait staff were polite, but sloppy looking in everyday jeans and tops. Bar tender needs beard grooming and his jeans were falling down. The rest room not clean, ran out of toilet paper and waste bin was full to top. The only excellent thing was the carrot cake. The meal on a whole was overpriced. Probably will not return or reccomend. Very disappointed and embarrassed to the people that were treating us to dinner at my suggestion. read more

Sorry to say, I used to come to this restaurant at least twice a month. Last night was very disappointing. The lamb chops were tough. I sent them back then I ordered a hamburger medium. It was all cold and raw inside. The waitress asked how I wanted it I said medium well, told the owner he said that's how we make the hamburgers so I'm like well. Why do you ask how I want the hamburger. The owner actually said you could take it home and heat it up in the microwave The night for me was a big flop. I will not be returning for a while. This place is stellar! We go early because it gets so busy and we like to sit at the bar. The bartender is amazing. The food delicious! Love the exposed brick walls & the vibe! located right on Main Street in downtown Apex. It is a hidden gem. Many of our friends that have lived here for years. I had the pork chop and hubby had the red drum. Both were delicious but the star of the show was the panna cotta! It was by far the best we have ever had. We eat here at least twice a month and the food never disappoints. I suggest eating upstairs if you have a hearing issue like my husband as the downstairs is VERY loud and we can't carry on a conversation down stairs. The staff is always very nice and pleasant. I ordered a fancy cocktail and took barely 2 sips, didn't like it so got a wine instead and they charged me for the wine and the one that I barely drank! A customer should NOT have to pay for something they don't like especially with drinks. I ended up paying $13 for a drink I didn't even like and took 2 sips. Horrible business practice! Also, the tables are way too close together! I was having dinner with a friend of mine and we had people on both sides really close to us so it felt like it was a dinner for 6 instead of just the 2 of us! Will not be going back. read more

Excellent spot for a special occasion or a date night. We've been several times both at the bar and seated at a table. The service is impeccable and they are always friendly while willing to help make suggestions. One caution would be that the menu is always changing but that is what makes them great for fresh and unique plates. Only true reason for four stars is the value on some of our visits and the pricing being a bit high for the experience. The food and service were excellent. We had a 6:30 reservation and the server was kind enough to tell they were running out of Oyster and a main course dish which I thought was strange since the restaurant was just starting to get busy. We had four people, and all had appetizers and a main course. Three of us ordered their Lamb Chops that were severed almost the way we order them in terms of temperature. Three of us switches a vegetable that went with the Lamb main course. There was a $3.50 substitution charge for each. I ordered the Raw Oysters, which was $18, there were very fresh but only came with a small paper thimble of ketchup not a homemade sauce or fresh horseradish, and no oyster crackers. I asked for horseradish and some crackers, and they charged us $1.50 for extra crackers. Our bill before server tip was $300. You would think they would not nickel and dime us for changing a vegetable or crackers. Not a good policy. read more

My wife and I and another couple ate here on Saturday. It was busy! We had a 6:30 reservation but a couple that came in before us without one was told the next available was 8:15. I agree with the other reviewers that the tables are close together and it is a bit noisy. It reminded me of restaurants in Boston or NYC. Good vibe if that is what you are looking for, but, perhaps too noisy if you're looking for a romantic date night. Food was good. I had the pork souvlaka, cooked well (a little pink), with scalloped potatoes and asparagus. Others at the table had the chicken cutlet, the NC Red Drum, gnocci and a Caesar salad. We were all happy with our choices. The menu changes every day and when our server came to the table, they were out of one item and almost out of another (the pork), but she told us that right away in case one of us wanted it. I would prefer if you could make a reservation online (they only take them over the phone) and that the daily menu be posted a little earlier than 4PM. A good experience overall. Same goes for the cheese plate, but caveat is we had a cheese monger from France in our prior hometown! Saturday night meal bar service. Only one bartender working and serving the 8 bar spots is a bit dicey, Took quite some time to place any orders since she was way in the weeds trying to keep up with the restaurants drink orders let alone serving us and keeping up with our drinks. We ordered two apps to start - the wings and the salad. The wings came out a bit under temp and had they been smoked I'd have been ok with them being pinkish, but seeing as they were roasted we didn't finish them, nor did we bring it up since we were waiting on our entree. My wife and I split a burger, and as soon as it was delivered my wife noted the blood soaked bottom bun and immediately said, I bet that's under temp. We ordered a medium temp burger and what arrived when we cut it open was blue. I flagged down the bartender and told her it was under temp. Not two minutes later our burger showed up, on the same blood soaked bun and was what we assumed to be microwaved to a medium well temp (over the medium we ordered). I'm real conflicted about this, I can't recall a restaurant I've ever been to where I've sent something back that was obviously under and have them nuke it. I don't think we'll be back. read more

We've been to this local eatery a handful of times and have always had a good experience. The service is friendly and the food is consistent. The restaurant itself is two stories and has a gastropub vibe. The hours are limited and it's usually busy so calling ahead is beneficial. I visited this restaurant last week. After seeing the reviews and menu, I was super excited to check it out. We ordered the cheese dip with pita bread and shrimp tostados for starters. The shrimp dish was good. The dip wasn't so great, but had potential. For my entree, I ordered the chicken, served with potatoes. This dish was horrible. I ate almost 1/4 of it and couldn't force myself to eat more. It didn't taste like any seasoning was added to the chicken and for some reason the potatoes tasted sweet. I think the chef may have accidentally added sugar instead of salt to the dish. I gave the restaurant 2 stars for the customer service. I thought the hostess and server were both very nice. I did think it was weird that when the server noticed I hadn't eaten much of my food that she didn't inquire about why or offer something else. However, they did remove the dish from our check, after asked. I was really disappointed and left feeling nauseous. I was hoping this could be another great, local go-to spot for me and my friends, but sadly that wasn't the case. read more

Excellent Restaurant! I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken Entree, my wife the RibEye and my 3 year old the Kids Fried Chicken Strip meal with French Fries.. My daughter is a picky eater and wouldn't stop eating the super flavorful tasty chicken and fries. Perfect crisp on both! My wife and I couldn't help, but to pick some off her plate. The Southern Fried Chicken was popping with flavor, combined with sweet n sour greens,breathtaking mac n cheese with a sweet potato blend! Highly recommend! My wife's steak was buttery and glistening in the moonlight as we sat outside around Sunset. It kept winking at us.. It busted with flavor! This restaurant was long due! Finally we were able to make a reservation for Thursday night with 2 other friends. We were seated right away. Their menu changes daily and is posted on their facebook page. Excellent service. We tried their wings, house fries, Shrimp Tostada, Fried Okra, Spinach/Cheese dip and Tuna tacos from the large plate. They even custom made veggie large plate for our friend, as they didn't have any veggie entry on the menu. All entries were so fresh! Loved their Tostada and the Wings. This place never disappoints. The staff is kind and helpful, and the interior is cozy. However, the tables on the sidewalk are probably my favorite place to sit so I can people-watch. The menu is carefully considered, and the dishes are well-planned and updated regularly - sometimes daily. I like the small menu because I can be indecisive regarding food. I want it all! A curated, seasonal menu helps alleviate the anxiety of settling on just one entree! Some recent highlights: *Lately, they've had empanadas on the menu that are amazing! I am currently anticipating the next time we're going so I can order them again! (see pic) *A few weeks ago, they had a version of an old fashion with honey, and I have got to figure it out so I can make it at home when they're closed! *I rarely say no to the local greens with baked goat cheese. That dish never fails to make me happy, and it's been on the menu almost permanently for a while now. *The chicken dishes are always perfectly cooked, seasoned, and delicious. The desserts are a blissful end to a perfect night. *I am not personally a huge salmon or lamb fan, but my husband almost always orders one or the other if they're available. Visited here Valentines evening. Had to leave multiple VMs for reservations, but at least they called back. Got the last slot for Valentines. Brought my wife and my daughter joined later. Staff were friendly and service was good. The bartender upstairs was particularly nice and friendly. They were patient being that our whole party didn't show at once. My wife loved the oysters on a half shell! I had the smoked fish spread, which is different for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife and daughter had some cocktails and said they were great. We all got the steak, but got potatoes three different ways (fries, mashed, and scalloped). It was not the best steak I've eaten, but the food is very good, and the portions are solid. The best part of the whole meal though was the carrot cake. Greatest carrot cake ever! I would return just for the carrot cake. Overall, this place is great! We will definitely return. This rating should be more of a 4.5, but I can't quite give a 5. read more
