Rey's is always a solid (albeit pricey) choice for a date night, client meeting, or dinner with anyone who loves the Big Easy. The voodoo lounge is also a great place to grab a cocktail and snack if you're so inclined. They make a mean dirty martini, with stuffed blue cheese olives, obviously. For starters I gravitate towards the Shrimp Orleans or Fried Oysters. Or, if I'm really missing Nola, I'll get their Turtle Soup. It's perfect! You can't really go wrong with their meat selections, I've been happy with steak, veal, and pork chops, but lately, I have a hard time ordering anything but the Grouper Lafayette. It's pan fried, topped with crab meat and smothered in a spicy butter. It's delightful. For dessert, the crème brûlée and bread pudding are both quite good. I'll be honest though, the portions are large, so sometimes dessert is completely out of the question. If I remember correctly, I believe they also have a twenty year tawny in the menu that is a great way to close out the night. I came to Rey's on a Saturday evening. The parking lot was full when I arrived and there was limited parking in the businesses parking lot. There is additional parking in lots near the business. The interior of the restaurant is spacious with a main dining area and a private seating area with a bar. The servers that I engaged with were great. I ordered a glass of Riesling and it was good. My filet mignon was very tasty, tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes, Caesar salad, egg rolls, and bread were good. My mixed vegetables were ok. The vegetables needed some seasoning. I enjoyed my creme brûlée and the cheesecake was plated beautifully. I would return to try some other menu items. read more

We wanted to go to an upscale restaurant with good steaks for a Valentine's day dinner, so Rey's seemed like the perfect spot to try. We walked in and immediately got upscale vibes. We were seated immediately in a little room off the side, which was quiet and romantic. Our server was very personable and offered wonderful recommendations without having to ask. She also let us know that Rey's just won best steakhouse last week! We each started with the caesar salad, which our waitress let us know that the croutons (& dressing) were homemade - the croutons were definitely a standout, impeccably seasoned and buttery. Otherwise it was a classic caesar salad feel, dressing was nothing to write home about. For entrees, I went for the surf & turf, which came with a filet mignon and lobster tail. The filet mignon was cooked to medium rare perfection and had a buttery-like consistency where it felt like it could melt in your mouth. The lobster tail was cooked, chopped up, and placed back in the tail, which I loved. It came with a side of garlic butter, which was lovely but also not necessarily needed since it was already cooked with a good amount of garlic butter - delicious. My husband got the 16oz NY strip. All meat we got cooked "Pittsburg style" which provided a lovely crisp on the outside of our steaks. For sides, we opted for garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The potatoes were creamy and nicely salted. The grilled asparagus was tender and not hard/stringy which often happens at the ends - however, it came to the table a tad cold. We had reservations here to celebrate my mom's birthday, it was wonderful! As soon as we walked in, there were placards on the wall of awards that Rey's Restaurant has earned and won. The decor was beautiful, the music was soft and nice and there were many seating options to fit plenty of people with different preferences. We started off with some red wine, Romaine Hearts Salad and the grilled brie served with fresh fruit and toast points, it was very good. For the entrees, we got the chicken piccata with a side of sauteed mushrooms. (I personally didn't love this one) and we also got 2 fillet mignons with a side of garlic mashed potatoes which were absolutely delicious! The dessert menu looked so good but the food portions were pretty big so we were full. Jonathan S was our server and he was magnificent. He was very attentive and very accommodating. My husband and I came across Rey's while on a work trip to North Carolina. Overall, it's a lovely restaurant for a delicious romantic date night. The offer plenty of seating - most being in their large dining area, while some is located in their bar area (Voodoo Lounge - still offers table seating). The exterior holds a large array of parking spaces for guests and the general location is nice and a stand alone. The restaurant was not extremely busy when we first arrived (we tend to eat dinner around 4/4:30pm). However, it did get quite busy as the night went on. The staff was great. Upon our arrival, the hostess asked if we were celebrating anything. We stated it was a few days past our anniversary, and the hostess immediately grabbed us a celebration card which was very sweet. The food was wonderful. Our waitress was great and offered multiple recommendations on items. All were extremely tasty. The food can get pricey as you add multiple items (apps, entrees, sides, and dessert), but in my opinion you get your monies worth with all items purchased here. Rey's Restaurant Anniversary Review My wife and I recently celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at Rey's Restaurant, and we could not have been happier with how everything turned out. From our first conversations, Christina Reeves, the Private Event Director, was with us every step of the way. She answered questions, offered suggestions, and helped guide us through the planning process. Planning a once-in-a-lifetime event like a 50th anniversary can feel overwhelming, but Christina made it easy and gave us confidence that everything would come together--and it did. The room was perfect for our group. One feature we especially loved was how it opened onto the patio. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather, and many of our guests spent time outside visiting, relaxing at the tables, and enjoying the evening. It gave the celebration an open, comfortable feel that everyone seemed to enjoy. The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding. A special thank you to Scott, Nora, and Jeremy, who took such good care of us and our guests throughout the evening. Nora and Jeremy handled much of the bar service, but everyone seemed willing to jump in wherever needed. Nobody seemed concerned about job titles--everyone simply did whatever was needed to make sure our guests were well taken care of. That teamwork helped make the entire evening feel effortless for us. One moment that especially meant a lot to me was when Rey himself stopped by near the end of the evening. He didn't just wave from across the room--he came over, asked how everything had gone, and genuinely wanted to know if we were happy with the evening. Then he shared a bourbon with me. That simple gesture meant a lot and says something about the kind of place Rey's is. The bartender was great. The rest of it was a mess. Our food was mediocre at best. We left a cash tip, and the waitress came running out after us asking if we left cash and said we did not. She then ran a card for %.01 so we could leave MORE tip on the card. She wanted to argue what we left on the card was not 20% even though the bill said the 20% was already added since we were a party of 6. It was and our cash was magically missing as well. We enjoyed the tuna appetizer, New York strip, potatoes Au Gratin and bread pudding. We've been coming to Rey's for 20 years but have to agree with the recent reviews that say this place has unfortunately changed for the worse . We ordered two surf and turf and the lobster was like warm jelly and the filets were so tough we could not even cut through them or even chew . The asparagus side which was extra was 2 pieces , tough and yellow . My girlfriend who never wastes food rejected even boxing the filet and lobster . The service was slow and they forgot things we told them 3 times but maybe they were just understaffed . For a meal for 2 costing over 300 , we were terribly disappointed, and we are not picky people at all! The champagne room and patio were nice as we had never eaten on that side. I made reservations at Rey's for my birthday, which fell on a Tuesday this year. I wasn't expecting much of a crowd, but the place was surprisingly busy. As soon as we walked in, the hostess greeted us warmly and seated us right away. She placed our menus in front of us and even gave me a birthday card, which was a nice touch. Our server came over, asked if it was our first time, and inquired about who was celebrating a birthday. After wishing me a happy birthday, he went over the day's specials and explained that the menu was à la carte. I ordered a lemon drop martini for my drink, and for my entrée, I chose the grouper. For the table, we ordered the lobster mac and cheese, greens, and mashed sweet potatoes. They also brought some bread, which was absolutely delicious. The food was excellent--flavorful without being too heavy, so I didn't feel overly stuffed. Since it was my birthday, they offered me a complimentary dessert, and I chose the crème brûlée, which was also very good. I loved the ambiance of the place, and at one point, either a manager or one of the owners came by to check on us, which showed great attention to detail. This place has absolutely gone downhill over the years. The last time we went my wife's filet was cooked medium rare when she had ordered it medium. It was the first time we'd had an issue though over the many times we had visited however so I wrote it off as nobody being perfect. We returned last night as a party of 5, including my oldest son's girlfriend. Unfortunately my wife's steak was undercooked again with very much a red center. I ordered the wagyu beef special which had hard gristle in the meat. In addition, the waitress mixed up the drinks my wife and I ordered, twice, and I had to flag down a different server for a tea refill. Unfortunately there is a mandatory tip percentage for parties of 5 or more so I was unable to voice my opinion through that avenue. I actually think the mandatory tip was part of the issue as the server didn't really act like she cared about the mistakes, knowing she'd receive 20% either way. With so many other great restaurants in the Triangle we will not be going back to this one. read more

I took my wife and daughter for Mother's Day, we were looking for an event restaurant at the same time as avoiding UNC, Duke and NC State graduation. A friend recommended Rey's and we were quite happy. Coincidentally we were in New Orleans a few weeks ago, we didn't book Rey's because of its New Orleans style, but we definitely felt it when we were there. I was impressed with the breadth of the menu, very challenging deciding what to order with many great options both as starters, salads and main courses. I ended up starting with the carpaccio, which had a lot of flavor outside the beef, as you sometimes just get nice meat but this was a more complete dish. I particularly liked the accompanying greens, they had quite a nice dressing. I ordered a ribeye medium rare as my main, it was also cooked perfectly and a nice steak. I added soft onions and although they were not world changing. I also found the sides simply okay. The better was the creamed spinach, which was nice but not the creamiest I have had. I did not particularly enjoy the asparagus, thin asparagus, nothing special. For dessert, we shared bananas foster, largely for the presentation and it lived up to it. Our waiter did a great job, the bananas tasted good, and they were nice enough to split it into three servings, each with sufficient ice cream. Service was very professional. Overall ambience was among the most formal I have experienced in the Triangle (very similar to Ruth Chris, not coincidentally also with NO roots), you didn't need a jacket but you would not be out of place without it. This was my first time going to this restaurant. I've never heard of this place until last week. My husband took me for my birthday and the food was great. The ambiance was very nice. We both ordered Ribeye steaks. It was cooked perfectly but my steak had a lot of fat on it. Still, the steak was well seasoned and I enjoyed every last bite. We ordered the creamed spinach and mashed sweet potatoes, which are big enough for two. I loved the sweet potatoes but the creamed spinach could've been better taste wise. Well, if I'm going to be honest ... it was a terrible evening at Rey's! My wife suggested Rey's for an early Mother's Day and so I scheduled a reservation for 5:30PM Saturday night. Waiter came across like a cheap used car salesman trying to push their Bone-In Ribeye (most expensive thing on the menu). We proceeded with our orders ... all ordered Soup/Salad and Filets. Soups were great according to my wife (French onion) and son (chicken gumbo). I ordered a $12 Caesar and it was made like someone threw a few wilted romaine lettuce together with a couple croutons and light on the typical Caesar dressing. Zero pride on their presentation. So steaks come out to our table and excited to to see the meal change direction ... nope! All steaks were ordered medium and came back rare! My son and wife grinned and bared the steak but I sent mine back to be cooked! My daughter had a thin piece that got cooked. But all the others were way under cooked! I had also asked during the ordering process for some Béarnaise sauce which was forgotten. We were all pretty disappointed in the meal. My wife ordered bread pudding and our server asked if she wanted to top it with vanilla ice cream which was an extra cost! The waiter surprisingly provided me a free cheesecake which told me he knew the meal was not well received by our family. A Hail Mary at best! The room we were in was was packed with a large party and a couple tables like us. The had the whole Clemson Girls LAX team there which looked like 100 people +. Maybe that screwed up their kitchen? Regardless ... my party won't be returning to what I feel was a horrible, expensive experience. The Rey's Team didn't execute the way a high-end steakhouse should. Go take a lesson from the Fleming's Team at Crabtree! Sorry but the truth hurts and it hurts writing this review on a local Raleigh restaurant! Celebrated the 64th birthday of my coworker and she was excited to visit Rey's after hearing such rave reviews. Upon arriving at the restaurant we were told they don't open til 5pm but people were entering and being seated around 4:45pm. We had a private dining area since there were 14 of us. The room was nice but it was extremely hot in there. Staff turned on the air and it would fluctuate between hot and cold. Our server was very nice and energetic I forgot her name but she was very good. For me personally they don't offer enough appetizers that are not seafood based. I am allergic to shellfish so it was disappointing to see only two options were not seafood inspired. I ordered a Caesar salad, it was very basic to say the least. I wish they offered chicken or salmon to go on top of it. For my main course I ordered the French quarter chicken and a side of macaroni and cheese. The chicken was just ok. I was expecting the cheese to be oozing out of it but it wasn't. The Mac and cheese was good. It had a little kick because it's made with pimento cheese. I had heard so many great things (in foodie groups on Reddit, etc.) so we chose Rey's over other steakhouses (especially the chains). The meal was 'average' (food quality) but for the prices charged, a horrible value and hence my 2 star review. Nothing special in any of the courses and everything was priced like it was somethings special. And some things were prepared 'odd' - the burrata salad was drenched in a creamy balsamic dressing (all over the cheese), so you couldn't taste the cheese. The $14 caesar salads were tiny as well. The ambience is sort of 1980's retirement home (and the clientele seemed to be largely older); while it wasn't particularly busy (we went on a Monday), they seated us right next to the doors to the kitchen which didn't help matters. The wine list is nothing spectacular, mostly recent vintages with a few older bottles but nothing you can't get anywhere else. I guess when I'm going to a steakhouse, I'm looking for some glam/wow factor and phenomenal sides, as I can generally make great steaks at home. I won't be going back to Rey's (nor will I go back to Vinnie's - many of the same complaints about Rey's I would apply there). read more

We sat in the bar area which had wonderful ambience. We had the Aji tuna appetizer and let me tell you the wasabi that came with. It was the strongest wasabi I've ever tasted in my life. The garlic mashed potatoes were life-changing and I really enjoyed the sautéed spinach and my steak. We enjoyed the lamb chops because they weren't too gamey. She was pretty attentive initially, but the restaurant started getting busy, and it was harder to get her attention, which is fine she finally came around. Overall, good service. We sat in the Voodoo Lounge, which accommodated our large and loud party of seven. My entree (pictured) was delicious--steak and scallops with garlic mash potatoes. The sides are sharable. The crab cakes (not pictured) in the trio seafood appetizer tasted like imitation crab meat and like someone sprinkled them with sugar. The calamari and scallops on the appetizer were delicious and a hit at the table. We all enjoyed it! There were raised eyebrows from everyone at the table when the tickets arrived with a handwritten tip. I understand gratuity is automatic for large groups, but I would expect the normal practice, which is suggested tier level tips 10, 15, 20%. It's a bit tacky for a nice restaurant like this to write in tips. We all felt this way! We are seven cultured and professional adults mid to late 30s and early 40s with jobs who are accustomed to tipping well when good service and food is provided. If this is normal practice, it should be changed. It takes away from experience. What if we wanted to tip more or less?! I was okay with the 20%, but a few said they might tip more had this not been written in. The tip in writing made me feel like Rey's selectively put this tip in writing to ensure a tip is given as if they thought we weren't going to tip. This decreased my rating from 4 stars to three. I have never seen this done in my entire life of dining out. Leave it up to the customer to input the tips. read more

"Hurry up!" Thats what we thought every time the staff members would wander around our area documenting where we and other diners were in our meals. Constantly the staff looking and documenting, even on an iPad as one looked to see status of the diners. This went on ever 3-5 mins our entire meal! Other tables noticed as well as we joked, "here they come again." Highly irritating! We started with scallops as we sipped a very good Old Fashioned and Dirty Martini. Bread on the table was tasty as well. We had a Caesar and Chopped Salad both were good but the crispy onions on the Chopped Salad had become a little too soft because based on the temperature of the salad and very cold plate, it may have spent too much time in the refrigerator waiting for someone to order it. We had lamb chops which were average/good and a Strip which was fantastic. Our sides included sautéed spinach and lobster mac'n cheese, very good. Dessert was a fantastic flourless chocolate cake, which went great with our Red Wine. The atmosphere was old school steakhouse and clean. We have been treating ourselves to Rey's for special occasions over the past four years. Historically, it has been a wonderful experience. This year, it was very disappointing. We went on November 13th (a Wednesday). The service was adequate (although not up to previous standards) but the steaks were not. The portions were small and my husband had to send his steak back because it was not cooked as requested. We have a special standing order of onion rings; in previous years these have been large glorious onion rings lightly coated with panko crumbs. This year, the onion rings were heavily oiled and coated with bread crumbs which fell off as we bit into the rings. We opted for takeout because of the pandemic, but I do feel like we missed out on what would've been a nice fine dining ambiance and experience, and so I'll have to come back at a later date. The Veal Marsala was alright, but probably the biggest letdown in terms of flavor . However, they were definitely generous with the amount of veal they gave. We arrived in Cary today and wanted to have a quality and filling dinner after a long day of travel. Someone in our group suggested Rey's and it was the right call. When you first arrive it looks more like an old fashioned house from the south, but the sign in front lets you know that you are at the right place. We were able to get a table without a reservation, which we were grateful to get. Our server was one of the funniest and helpful guys I've ever run into. Excellent suggestions and friendly in all the right ways. We all decided to take his recommendation of the prime ribeye with the Oscar add on. I had mines medium rare + and it was really good: juicy and full of flavor. The creamed spinach was also really good. I decided to take it easy on the drinks so I hade one of their mocktails, which I enjoyed. To top it off our server ended our meal with the flambéed banana ice cream dessert that was the best ending to a meal we could ever expect (give this man a raise). Our whole meal with excellent and we were thoroughly entertained. I would not hesitate to recommend Rey's to anyone thinking about a nice entertaining dinner. read more
