I have mixed feelings about The Mill. The ambiance and service were superb and definitely to my liking. However, I found the pricing and menu selection a bit disappointing. Since we visited during lunch, there weren't many options available. I had looked at the menu online beforehand and was excited to try the cheesesteak, only to find out it was no longer offered. That was a letdown. We ordered the Smashburger, Shrimp and Grits, Steak Frites with chimichurri, and the Crispy Jumbo Thai Wings. The fries were decent--not too salty, not greasy, and cooked just right. The Smashburger was a bit too large for me since it came with double patties. The fire-grilled sourdough was just okay, but the sun-dried tomato pimiento cheese spread was delicious. My favorite dish was definitely the Crispy Jumbo Thai Wings. They were perfectly crispy, and the flavors were incredible--they really danced on your palate. Overall, the food wasn't bad, but I felt it was overpriced for what was offered. Great experience overall. We came here on a Sunday. I'd just flown back in from Germany and needed a great meal before getting some much needed rest. We started with the crispy jumbo Thai wings. They were really good and flavored perfectly. I loved the Thai sauce they were coated in. The venison bolognese is a star. I didn't have to add anything to it. I mixed all the ingredients together and let the whipped ricotta coat all over the rigatoni pasta and dove in. Absolutely perfect dish. We also tried to braised beef short rib. I LOVE the Mill. From my experience, they have consistently good food and service, even when they are really busy. We tend to sit at the bar, but I've also eaten in the dinning room. I love their onion rings and grilled Caesar salad for bar food. They also make a fabulous old fashioned and killer espresso martini. For dinner, I love their salmon, their shrimp and grits, their trout, or the pork chop. But honestly, I've never had anything here I wouldn't order again. It's in the higher mid-price range, not quite casual dining, but not quite fine dining, but I think it's well worth it. They have a gluten free and vegan menu. My good friend is allergic to both dairy and gluten, and is very concerned about cross contamination, and she is always happy to eat here. They take food allergies very seriously; I love that. My most recent visit at The Mill started well. I like the decor but they could use some sound dampening as it was very loud inside. I went with the Eggs Benedict this time, and that came with breakfast potatoes. The portion of the potatoes was generous, but they were too salty to eat. The Eggs Benedict was good. I don't know if they offer another side for the dish, but I wouldn't order the salty potatoes again, so if that were the only option, I would need to order something else. The food orders were not brought out to the correct people. I was given a drink refill this visit but just one and my glass was taken rather than refill it with a pitcher. But at least there was a refill. There was a considerable delay in receiving checks, and some were incorrect and had to be corrected. This visit seemed like a hot mess. My friends and I went as soon as they opened and the staff was very welcoming and alert. I had a sweet tea to drink and our waitress was thoughtful enough to bring extra ice considering the tea was freshly brewed! Six of us met to chat and eat together at the Mill. Only one of us had been here before, but we all enjoyed it. Katherine helped us with drinks and food over a very nice evening. I had the smash burger and fries. Others had the Ceasar shrimp salad and the venison bolognese. There was a good selection of wines, as well as some fun cocktails. I had the "We demand a shrubbery!", which was a gin-based drink with a peach shrub. highlight. So now, I'm working on making peach shrubs at home, trying to replicate it! Nicely appointed decor, nothing austere or out of the ordinary, but very minimally designed. Tables were far enough apart that you didn't feel you were in each others' laps. And the hostess seated folks with at least one table between, rather than right on top of each other! Other restaurants, take notice! This is a great way to get folks to stay longer and order dessert - even on those nights when the total seats filled is below average. Get more sales per seat! BLUF: Great food, nice decor but a bit loud, plenty of parking. I visited The Mill for Sunday brunch at 11am. I appreciates that I could make a reservation on Resy and that being located in a strip mall there was plenty of parking. The decor is much nicer than a strip mall would suggest. The restaurant had a warm and cozy feeling with a nod to the historic mills it honors. Unfortunately even at 11am on a Sunday it was a touch loud in part due to high ceilings, hard surfaces and loud music. Moving on to food, it was all excellent. We had a few orders of shrimp and grits and an avocado toast. All of it was great! We also tried to cheesecake and washed it down with coffee which was a satisfying end to the meal. Not sure if the waiter's behavior was an indication of colorist bias or not, but the people I was with believe it might have been especially since he was asking us to pass him our dirty plates which is not our jobs as customers. You as a waiter should not be reaching over people glasses. If the plates are not in a reachable place you should wait until we leave to clear the table. We are not on your payroll SIR. This should be addressed. This is also the same guy that sent us to the opposite dinning room bc he didn't have any low tables. We had to drive over to the Flea Market located on the NC Fairgrounds and while in that area, I remembered an establishment that I had not frequented since moving away from the area. I recommended that we go. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I found that a new restaurant called, The Mill, had opened in its place, and with a very tasty brunch menu and exceptional decor. I am always going to gravitate to Shrimp and Grits on any menu, and my husband is always going to seek a burger when available. We both found what we were looking for. The Shrimp and Grits were so different from what I am accustomed but they were out of this world, outstanding. The Breakfast Burger was equally delicious, and while messy, it was the "every bite counts, slurp it up and wash ya hands later" kinda great! Service was exceptional, had a lovely chat with an out of state transplant that worked the bar, and our server was extremely friendly and made excellent recommendations. The parking lot was very full but we managed to find a spot in the shopping strip mall area. We got sat right away and everyone was very nice. Our server was attentive and took the time to wipe off the pollen that accumulated quickly in this NC spring weather before we started dining. The food came out quickly and tasted good. The eggs benedict came with little potatoes. If I was to come back, I would try something else as a side(The potato bites were a little dried up, which was ok in our situation because the pup got to eat the non seasoned ones anyhow). This place is very delicious and I love that they use compostable bags for their takeout. I came here today around 4-5pm for some takeout. Great for a meal or just stopping at the bar for a nice cocktail. The employees I spoke with were friendly and courteous and helpful. I didn't catch the name of the first guy who helped me/took my order but he was the best, most friendly, and gave me recommendations on food. He had brown hair that was kinda curly. I would say the other employees were courteous but not friendly. I ordered the fried biscuits, kids menu salmon and Mac and cheese for my daughter with a side of bacon. It's $2 for a side of bacon and came with 3 pieces. Totally worth it. Good quality bacon, not too crispy. Tried her food too. The salmon was absolutely incredible and so was the mash but the broccolini was too stringy/fibrous. Mac and cheese is fantastic as well. Do not recommend the ny strip which was super chewy and seemed like a low quality cut of meat to be honest. It also had some sauce on top of it which was unnecessary. They said the ny strip comes with fries but you can swap it out for a different side if you'd like. They were nice. On the soggier side but I like soggy fries. Overall just way too pricey for what you get though. The fried biscuits were awesome. They are dense and more of a hockey puck shape and duck fried. If you don't like dense biscuits then steer clear. My daughter and I enjoyed them though and they go great with the pepper jelly (reminds me of sweet chili sauce). Yum. Definitely will be returning but opting out of getting steak. For steak I recommend going to Oak downtown! As far as appetizers, the guy who took my order recommended the wings and the fried biscuits. I had the steak and eggs and I will tell you this meal was exquisite. For 22 dollars you get two eggs done to your liking, potatoes, and a 5 ounce filled. The exicution on all of these elements were fantastic and I was unable to find a weak point on the plate. The steak is smothered in a creamy hollandaise sauce which elevates the entire meal far above your average steak and eggs. As far food goes this place is 5 star, however there is a reason I deducted 1 star. Probably one of the best and most helpful we've ever had. A couple people in our group have food allergies and our server went above and beyond to make sure we were ok. The mill is a nice restaurant but be a warned that there are some very pricey items on the menu. Wow, we did have a party of nine. I'm going to concentrate on myself and my wife as far as this review goes. My wife ordered the crusted salmon with fennel. My original order was for the cheesesteak, but unfortunately, they were out of cheesesteak at that time. So my Plan B was to go with the Smashburger. My wife's salmon was ordered, medium, and it was prepared perfectly. She said it was absolutely delicious. My Smashburger was absolutely outstanding. The two patties were cooked very well. Had a very nice crispy crust around the edges and all the toppings were ample, but not too much. You could easily bite into the burger without topping spelling everywhere. I ordered the fries to go with it and they were fine. I mean, what can you do with french fries? Our server kept busy during the evening filling, waters and taking plates away. She was very good. Very friendly and outgoing. And yes, she got a good tip. Now my father-in-law ordered steak and my mother-in-law ordered chicken and I picked up their bills for the meal. Between the two of them, they ordered six draft beers. My wife and I drank water. The bill for the four of us that I picked up came to $156. The big part of that was the steak And the salmon. My splash burger was $18. The food is good, but also be aware too, that the food can't be rather pricey. It does matter if you're on a budget. But this is a special occasion being a graduation celebration so we splurged. I do recommend the mill. The service was outstanding. Had a great afternoon lunch on their outdoor patio despite it being a billion degrees out today. The patio has a ton of shade from nearby trees & the addition of large patio umbrellas which made it so comfortable -- the addition of two wall fans also helped. I feel that a lot of thought has gone into this space & it shows. (Other than walking in past the bar to go outside, I'll only comment on how the bar looked inviting) I usually shy away from the grilled Caesar concept after a few other places I've visited but this one was excellent & the smashburger was delicious! Tucked away at the end of a strip mall stands The Mill. The building is wrapped in dark windows, and because of this, I thought I was going to step into a sports bar, but this was not the case. Stepping in, there are multiple small tables and booths sporting wood facing tops. A wrap around bar with a plethora of spirits also greets you. Beyond the bar is a more formal and beautiful dining area and sleek and clean bathrooms. As it was just me in the bar area, I decided to sit here. My waiter warmly greeted me and gave me a menu. Their food menu has a few appetizers, small plates, salads, and entrees. I asked about the size of the small plates and then decided on the rye crusted salmon. My waiter told me it was one of their best selling items, and I see why. The salmon is thick and plated so beautifully! It had an amazing balance of crispness and softness. I love that it was cooked to a medium temperature, had a golden brown crisp, and was topped with pickled mustard seeds. Omg! Every bite was amazing. I love that hidden potatoes and onions tucked under the salmon that paired so well with the cream sauce. Wow, wow, and wow again. What a bummer. Looked up photos of this place and thought it would be a good place for dinner before the Mariah Carey Christmas concert down the road. Unfortunately, the food was a miss. The service was friendly. However, when we told him that the steak on our Steakhouse salad tasted off and gamey, we were told that the meat was just cut today and they haven't had any issues. Well, I highly doubt they would tell us that they used old meat or if they had issues at that point because well, why would they? I'm a big steak eater, love me a good juicy steak and honestly never eaten steak at a restaurant and said "hmmm this doesn't taste like steak and has a bad after taste". So, when I say it's off, I think it's actually off. Sure, steak can be overcooked or under seasoned but this one was just not right at all. Oh well. Ate here last night before the Nate Bargatze show. The place was busy which is fine but they weren't quite staffed for it. Every step of the experience took longer than it really should have, though not ridiculously so. The server was obviously working her butt off so I didn't punish her tip wise. The food was a mixed bag. My younger son said his steak was awesome while my older son said his salmon was just ok. I ordered the special, lobster mac and cheese. It came as a lobster tail simply sitting atop the mac and cheese instead of having it cut up in the dish. I hate that type of think anyway as I end up having to grab hot food to finish preparing the meal myself but to make this worse the lobster tail was incredibly small and over cooked. It was all I could do to use my hands and knife to cut out little bits as it was dry and stuck to the tail. Overall the flavor was good but it was just not a great experience. read more

7 of us had an early Saturday night dinner here (with reservations), and it was delightful. The atmosphere is so inviting and comfortable, and not too loud. They have tables and booths. Our booth was comfortably large enough for all of us. I will say at first we thought we would freeze to death cause it was so cold, but when we requested to be warmed up a bit, they were kind enough to do adjust the temp. Food was terrific. We started by sharing an order of onion rings, and it was a generous enough portion that it was plenty for all of us to sample. Definitely some of the best onion rings we've ever had. Nicely seasoned. Harissa dipping sauce good. Yum! Entrees were also expertly prepared and delicious. I loved my Salmon. Husband was a fan of the Steak Frites. Others liked the New York Strip, the Pork Chop and the Cowboy Steak for two and the Fish and Chips. Love that the menu has a nice variety of casual to fancy food options. Service was good.
