I LOVE the Mill. From my experience, they have consistently good food and service, even when they are really busy. We tend to sit at the bar, but I've also eaten in the dinning room. I love their onion rings and grilled Caesar salad for bar food. They also make a fabulous old fashioned and killer espresso martini. For dinner, I love their salmon, their shrimp and grits, their trout, or the pork chop. But honestly, I've never had anything here I wouldn't order again. It's in the higher mid-price range, not quite casual dining, but not quite fine dining, but I think it's well worth it. They have a gluten free and vegan menu. My good friend is allergic to both dairy and gluten, and is very concerned about cross contamination, and she is always happy to eat here. They take food allergies very seriously; I love that. They also have a great wine list. Random note: Their bread pudding is the only bread pudding I've ever liked.

My friends and I went as soon as they opened and the staff was very welcoming and alert. I had a sweet tea to drink and our waitress was thoughtful enough to bring extra ice considering the tea was freshly brewed! The waitress was also very knowledgeable of the menu and expressed she had tried many items so that was helpful in us deciding on our food. Restrooms were clean and the lighting was perfect for the bar area.

I went with my friends for Sunday brunch and the food was meh. I really didn't like most of the options on the menu so I settled for the eggs Benedict. We split the monkey bread to start. For the prices, I wasn't really impressed and was not a fan of the almost burnt potatoes.

My most recent visit at The Mill started well. I like the decor but they could use some sound dampening as it was very loud inside. I went with the Eggs Benedict this time, and that came with breakfast potatoes. The portion of the potatoes was generous, but they were too salty to eat. The Eggs Benedict was good. I don't know if they offer another side for the dish, but I wouldn't order the salty potatoes again, so if that were the only option, I would need to order something else. The food orders were not brought out to the correct people. I was given a drink refill this visit but just one and my glass was taken rather than refill it with a pitcher. But at least there was a refill. There was a considerable delay in receiving checks, and some were incorrect and had to be corrected. This visit seemed like a hot mess. Hopefully, this was just an off day.

We had to drive over to the Flea Market located on the NC Fairgrounds and while in that area, I remembered an establishment that I had not frequented since moving away from the area. I recommended that we go. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I found that a new restaurant called, The Mill, had opened in its place, and with a very tasty brunch menu and exceptional decor. I am always going to gravitate to Shrimp and Grits on any menu, and my husband is always going to seek a burger when available. We both found what we were looking for. The Shrimp and Grits were so different from what I am accustomed but they were out of this world, outstanding. The Breakfast Burger was equally delicious, and while messy, it was the "every bite counts, slurp it up and wash ya hands later" kinda great! Service was exceptional, had a lovely chat with an out of state transplant that worked the bar, and our server was extremely friendly and made excellent recommendations. If I didn't mention it enough, the decor was stunning in the dining area. Call me IMPRESSED! We will be back!!!! 1000000% sure of it and you must try this place if you haven't already!!!!

Looking out to the patio from back dining room.

Six of us met to chat and eat together at the Mill. Only one of us had been here before, but we all enjoyed it. Katherine helped us with drinks and food over a very nice evening. I had the smash burger and fries. Others had the Ceasar shrimp salad and the venison bolognese. There was a good selection of wines, as well as some fun cocktails. I had the "We demand a shrubbery!", which was a gin-based drink with a peach shrub. highlight. So now, I'm working on making peach shrubs at home, trying to replicate it! Nicely appointed decor, nothing austere or out of the ordinary, but very minimally designed. Tables were far enough apart that you didn't feel you were in each others' laps. And the hostess seated folks with at least one table between, rather than right on top of each other! Other restaurants, take notice! This is a great way to get folks to stay longer and order dessert - even on those nights when the total seats filled is below average. Get more sales per seat! Let people feel they are isolated and able to bond.

CLASSIC EGGS BENEDICT*
L B.

Was a beautiful day so we sat outside for brunch. They had a spacious patio That had umbrellas up that protected us from the sun. They also had heaters for when there is colder weather. We always look for the best eggs benedict, so after shopping we googled a spot near by that sounded good, and we pulled in to try. The parking lot was very full but we managed to find a spot in the shopping strip mall area. We got sat right away and everyone was very nice. Our server was attentive and took the time to wipe off the pollen that accumulated quickly in this NC spring weather before we started dining. The food came out quickly and tasted good. The eggs benedict came with little potatoes. If I was to come back, I would try something else as a side(The potato bites were a little dried up, which was ok in our situation because the pup got to eat the non seasoned ones anyhow). We got a cute little note and picture on our check out. Would be interested in trying other options here too.

I enjoyed the chili Thai wings and my pesto mushroom flat bread pizza with a Dirty Shirley cocktail. (Adding: the bread pudding was good and different. I would've enjoyed this warm not cold.) Not sure if the waiter's behavior was an indication of colorist bias or not, but the people I was with believe it might have been especially since he was asking us to pass him our dirty plates which is not our jobs as customers. You as a waiter should not be reaching over people glasses. If the plates are not in a reachable place you should wait until we leave to clear the table. We are not on your payroll SIR. This should be addressed. This is also the same guy that sent us to the opposite dinning room bc he didn't have any low tables. The hostess brought us right back over to his area where he had a table unnecessarily reserved that she sat us at. Overall, I've enjoyed The Mill food on two occasions now but the service on this evening needs major improvements. Coaching on soft skills, waiter etiquette and pleasantries.

STEAK SALAD

Oh my gosh, what a great find! Absolutely blown away by all the food here. The ambiance is so cozy while also being elegant and refined. It's a true gem of a spot. I still dream about this steak salad I got.

We came with the dogs today and maybe it was a lunch time but the staff members were nice and attentive. The atmosphere is laid back cozy vibe and would be nice for late night drinks or snacks. The food was good, not "oh my god, this is fantastic!!" But it was good.

There is a 5% charge for takeout. Good to know.

This place is very delicious and I love that they use compostable bags for their takeout. I came here today around 4-5pm for some takeout. It took a bit longer than what they had told me but the food was still really good so not a huge deal. The vibes are chill, classy but warm. Great for a meal or just stopping at the bar for a nice cocktail. The employees I spoke with were friendly and courteous and helpful. I didn't catch the name of the first guy who helped me/took my order but he was the best, most friendly, and gave me recommendations on food. He had brown hair that was kinda curly. I would say the other employees were courteous but not friendly. I ordered the fried biscuits, kids menu salmon and Mac and cheese for my daughter with a side of bacon. It's $2 for a side of bacon and came with 3 pieces. Totally worth it. Good quality bacon, not too crispy. Tried her food too. The salmon was absolutely incredible and so was the mash but the broccolini was too stringy/fibrous. Mac and cheese is fantastic as well. Do not recommend the ny strip which was super chewy and seemed like a low quality cut of meat to be honest. It also had some sauce on top of it which was unnecessary. They said the ny strip comes with fries but you can swap it out for a different side if you'd like. They were nice. On the soggier side but I like soggy fries. Overall just way too pricey for what you get though. The fried biscuits were awesome. They are dense and more of a hockey puck shape and duck fried. If you don't like dense biscuits then steer clear. My daughter and I enjoyed them though and they go great with the pepper jelly (reminds me of sweet chili sauce). Yum. Definitely will be returning but opting out of getting steak. For steak I recommend going to Oak downtown! As far as appetizers, the guy who took my order recommended the wings and the fried biscuits. I'll definitely be trying the wings and dining in next time!

Wood Grilled Cesar salad.

We chose this place because we saw an online gf menu. When we got to the restaurant, we found out that a paper copy of the gf menu is not available because it has been revised. The old gf menu indicated fries are gf, but they aren't because they use a shared fryer. The options are very limited. I chose the Wood Grilled Cesar salad. It was very tasty. I don't recommend this place for anyone with dietary issues with gluten.

Smash or Pass
Black2Soul E.

Food was good. We sat on bar side. We were rushing, so we were happy there was hardly anyone on that side. I had Porkchop orzo rice and broccolini and hubby had salmon with potatoes. Everything was flavorful and tender, not overcooked. I really enjoyed my orzo. No complaints there. The two biggest disappointments was my Smash or Pass drink. It tasted like tart cranberry juice. Barely any alcohol. Waitress had to return because the bartender either didn't know, didn't care or forgot to add simple syrup. Yuk! And 2ndly, The bread pudding was an all time low on the dessert scale. All I tasted was salt. It was going to be my evening snack and for all that money, it went in the trash.

Crusted salmon with fennel.

If it's a beautiful day, I'd definitely recommend sitting outside instead. Still, the inside has a cozy, laid-back feel that works well. Shoutout to Qua, who was both the hostess and our server. She was welcoming, attentive, and handled everything smoothly, even as a few more parties came in while she was the only one serving at the time. One thing I really appreciated was that she let us know upfront what items were out of stock before we even looked at the menu. That level of transparency is huge and makes the experience so much better. My son ordered a slider with fries from the kids' menu. It comes with just one slider, so I ordered a second, definitely the right call. He enjoyed it, and the fries were cooked well, just a little on the salty side for our taste (ketchup helped balance that out). I had the shrimp tacos. It's packed and perfect portion for lunch. The shrimp, pineapple slaw, and chipotle mayo was a nice mix. The restaurant was clean (including the bathrooms). The location is also a plus, super close to the Art Museum, which makes it a great stop before or after visiting. Overall enjoyable, and I'd come back, especially to try more of the menu and the drinks.

I ordered their new Salmon BLT and my friend ordered the Meat Lovers Omlette that was served with gouda grits. The salmon blt lived up to my expectations. It was light but filling and super flavorful. The star is the red onion and dill aioli. My only complaint is the bread. It's tasty bread, it's just not sturdy enough fpr all of the sandwich ingredients. I would have appreciated if it were something thicker or served as an open faced sandwich. The sweet potato fries were fresh and crispy. The fresh pepper sprinkle on them gave them a new dynamic for me. My friend enjoyed the meat lovers omelet and she let me taste the gouda grits. OMG talk about flavor. I'm going back just for those damn grits!! I like very textured grits and these were that on top of perfectly seasoned and cheesed! Geeze!!!!!!!!!! Besides their massive wall of spirits, another component that i appreciated was their inclusive restroom offerings. The door signs are genius! This place looks like it's also great in the evening and late night. They certainly earned a customer in me! Can't wait to go back for more grits!!!!

The top tier choice is the salami pesto one. It's my absolute favorite. For my panini, I got the caprese one on ciabatta bread and the half of the mixed greens salad. The salad was delicious. This was a ton of food and felt very satisfying. I always love the vibe of Postino's, but this location was way too dark with only a small candle at the table. From the staff to the manager to the food, everything was on point. The food truly speaks for itself. They serve small plates, which we love because it gives you the chance to try different things and experience a variety of flavors. We started with the fried pork belly on tostones. It was perfectly seasoned, topped with avocado, and every bite just melted in your mouth. Next, we had the tamarind sticky ribs with a tamarind mango barbecue sauce. This was a perfect example of how simplicity can create complex flavors. The ribs were cooked just right -- not completely falling off the bone, but tender enough that when you bit into them, the meat pulled apart so easily. They were juicy, full of flavor, and had just the right touch of spice from the chili flakes. Then we moved on to the mini arepas, and oh my God. They had slow-cooked pork, guava barbecue sauce, and fried papas on top. The arepa itself was crispy on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside. The savory pork paired with the sweetness of the guava barbecue sauce was incredible, and the crunch from the fried papas took it to another level. Now, I have a bit of a sweet tooth, but my wife does not. I wanted dessert, and we were leaning toward the tres leches, but our waitress highly recommended the bread pudding. I am not usually a fan of bread pudding at all, but her recommendations had been on point all night, so I decided to trust her. I am so glad we did. They take a Mexican bolillo, soak it overnight in tres leches, then pan-sear it to create this crispy caramelized outside while keeping the inside warm, soft, and sweet. It is topped with crema and toasted coconut, then they pour warm guava syrup over it and serve it with a scoop of coconut sorbet. The layers of flavor in that dessert were unreal. Honestly, it may have been the best dessert we have ever had. And remember, my wife is not big on sweets -- she usually only takes one bite of dessert, but this time she tried to eat over half of it. Lol. I highly recommend this place. The food, the service, the drinks, and the atmosphere were all amazing. And after dinner, you can even head upstairs to work off the food with salsa lessons and a dance club. This is definitely a spot worth checking out! Me alegra muchísimo haberlo hecho. Jajaja.
