    Pork chop, greens, corn soufflé

LOVE this place. The service is always spot-on and the food is excellent. BF had the shrimp and grits which may be the best I have ever tasted. I had the pork chop and I don't know what was the best part of that dish - the corn soufflé was fantastic, the greens were great and the pork chop was perfect. We were part of a party with little ones and our server was gracious to all of us.

We went to Academy Street Bistro last night, and for me, it was a 3/5 experience. 1. The Server Forgot Part of Our Order When we placed our order, the server didn't write anything down, and as expected, forgot a few items. I really don't get why restaurants don't require servers to use notepads--it would prevent mistakes and make splitting checks so much easier. Why is this still a thing?! 2. The Beer Spill Situation When my wife got her beer in a can, she asked for a glass--not to have it poured, just a glass. The server took it upon himself to pour it, and somehow spilled a good amount while doing it. Not just a few drops--a noticeable amount. If you spill that much, shouldn't you replace the can? 3. The Outdoor Furniture is Awful The tables are so flimsy that when you rest your arms on them, they tilt toward you--along with everything on top. The materials are cheap and unstable, making it uncomfortable to sit and eat. 4. Price vs. Quality Doesn't Match My wife ordered the Ahi Tuna, and she liked it. I had the Breaded Chicken with mashed potato-like something, and it was pretty good. BUT--we all agreed that the food and the place itself are overpriced. $17 for Ahi Tuna (before tax) and $30 for Breaded Chicken feels too expensive for a place with this level of furniture, tableware, and service. In my opinion, this place should be priced lower. Just because it's in a historic location doesn't mean you can charge premium prices for a mediocre setup. I know at least 10 places with the same price range but with way better interiors, quality furniture, digital ordering systems, stylish tableware, and top-notch service that pays attention to small details.

I'm not sure if I got the correct sandwich or what but for me the bread was hard and the sandwich was very dry. Great customer service. She was so great to even find me some alcohol free wine. But the food was just not for me unfortunately.

Excellent neighborhood bistro. Food and service always excellent. The chefs specials are always a treat.

Nice - indoor and outdoor seating and some gluten free. They have homemade gluten free bread so I had a BLT instead of a salad and it was amazing. The best BLT I have ever had. My husband had Lobster Bisque was excellent and crab cake salad was also great. A total win today and a very relaxing lunch.

I visited Academy Street Bistro for lunch for the first time today, having intended - but failing - to go any number of other times. Since it was just going to be me today, I made a reservation to sit at the bar. (Plus: You can reserve a seat at the bar or at a table, indoors or outdoors.) It's a lovely little space. The bar is small, but comfortable. Becca was the bartender. I asked her about the fried calamari and she recommended it - "Not at all rubbery." When it arrived, she was spot on. Small, but tender pieces, perfectly seasoned. I would definitely order that again. I think I'll try to get a windowside table (regular, not a high-top, as they have in the bar area) on my next visit.

A really nice upscale dining experience without being stuffy. The food was really good and the service was friendly. The short ribs weren't served in a traditional way but fashioned into a circular mound. Wonderful taste and texture without being messy. That was great since I was on a date and who wants to be looking like a cave man eating ribs or watching a cave man eat ribs? When we were on our way out the manager said hello to us and apologized for not getting over to our table, which was super nice. I'd really like to go back. I thought the decor was a bit austere but that was okay because the place has a very clean, crisp vibe.

Bottom line: Academy Street Bistro in Ashworth Village served up a good late lunch with a couple of their starter appetizers and dessert. An enjoyable nice meal experience with prices to match that expectation (not the most inexpensive menu selections). Can be for casual or a little bit nicer if needed. The Deets: Around the old downtown Cary area near the train station, I stopped into Academy Street Bistro for a late lunch. I remembered I had gone to a Yelp event here years ago but had not made it back since then. I was seated immediately in the high top table area near the bar. I wanted just a couple of things but not a huge lunch, and their appetizer/starters menu did the trick for this need. I started off with their Grilled Brie selection. This choice was a good one, the Brie was warm and soft with a cooked apple type topping that was the perfect complement to the cheese and served with crackers. My next selection was their starter size of their Jumbo-Lump Crab Cakes (with Romesco, shaved almonds, and fennel). I guess I was thinking about the word "Jumbo" but then realized that this was a starter portion of the crab cakes when it arrived. The crab cakes themselves are not huge in size but definitely good in taste and I enjoyed them very much with the tomato based Romesco sauce being a nice burst of flavor to complement the crab cakes. I had thought I would do a lighter meal but when my server Kalli (who was great, by the way) mentioned dessert, I decided to give it a go. I went with the featured cheesecake which was chocolate bourbon pecan cheesecake made at Blue Moon Bakery within the same shopping area (Ashworth Village) that Academy Street Bistro is in. The cheesecake was delicious and I could taste each of the three distinct flavors in a nice balance. In all, it was a delicious late lunch and I enjoyed my visit. Are they the most inexpensive meal around? No. Is it a nice but casual, good meal experience? Yes, at least my late lunch was good and I would like to experience their dinner selections at some point in the future.

My wife and I stopped by here the other night, and had a nice experience. It could have been better, but will definitely return. Pros: The patio area was beautiful and romantic at night, nice wine list for a small place, and the mushroom risotto and baked brie were phenomenal. Cons: The service was marginal at best (didn't really know the draft beers even though menu said to ask your server), the app plates we were initially given were filthy and the server seemed unconcerned, and the charcuterie board was lacking compared to many others of similar price in the Triangle. Overall, we had a nice time. The beers and plates were server issues that could have been avoided but I'm not going to judge the place overall due to one employee. And the food we liked was well worth the trip and a return visit.

I get there to get my order and check my food and low and behold , it's drums in it. So then another server comes and I told her the situation and she said I could get a refund or they could remake the 3 flats that were drums . Then got the manager and ended up telling him just to make it fresh which I waited about ten mins for . I get home and I realize , THERES STILL DRUMS . And they gave me the old wings anyways and just 3 fresh flats which I didn't want my old food back there anyways because I figured that would happen but let's just say this: NO OVER THE PHONE ORDERS AND THEY CANT DO ALL FLATS . They need to better train the server. Update dec. 2,2023 So I came here a second time and this time dine in. Did NOT like the experience. They literally ran out of silverware and my steak got cold waiting for one so I didn't even want it anymore and on top of that, the chimichurri was DISGUSTING. They said there was nothing they can do about there being no silverware and they can't just "pull it out their ass" . Didn't even offer plastic .. Took forever for food and drinks. Never got my water. Or napkins. Ended up having to order nachos only cause it was the quickest thing to order without needing the silverware . A different waiter actually helped get those nachos and faster service to me. Don't believe I'll be going back at this point. First review before the update was a year prior to 2023 review. It would be like renaming the Angus Barn to something like the Beef Shed. I'll start with the two desserts...we couldn't decide between the three desserts they had so we settled on two. Both were freaking amazing. Almost ordered the third to go. The Chocolate tort with Nutella gluten free was creamy and deeply rich in flavor. The Espresso Panna cotta with strawberries was lighter and subtly sweet and perfect. I also couldn't decide between one entry so I got the Vietnamese pork chop and the smoked wings in plum bbq sauce...the pork chop was just okay but everything else that came with it was really good...those vegetables rocked! Now the plum wings...that's unusual and was definitely something that was downright flavorful...I would get them again for sure. My girlfriend is gluten-free and picked this place just for the GF chicken and she was blown away. I tried it and I was blown away. Usually GF food is not good, grainy, and lacking real depth...not this place. This was in all likelihood the best gluten free friend chicken I've ever had and it was half of a freaking chicken! Soooo many fries. We ended up taking half of it home and it made a complete second dinner the next day reheated in the air fryer. Definitely somewhere we will return very soon. The hotel property is charming and thoughtfully designed, with a mix of tables, sofas, and comfortable chairs that create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. We arrived 3/4 past noon and chose to sit in the study/library area rather than the main dining room. I would strongly recommend this option. The study is quiet and comfortable, while the main restaurant area was noticeably louder. The proximity allows you to enjoy the ambiance without the noise. The menu offerings felt fairly typical for this style of restaurant. We tried the skillet cornbread. It was served room temperature and on the dry side. However, the whipped butter that accompanied it was excellent. Unfortunately, the cornbread was not warm enough to melt it, which would have improved the experience. The Italian wedding soup was very good and served properly hot. We also ordered the local lettuces salad with chicken. The salad itself was fresh, but the chicken was visibly dry and tasted the same. Interestingly, placing the chicken into the soup made it more enjoyable. The double cheeseburger was average. The bun struggled to hold together under the two patties and cheese. The flavor was acceptable but not memorable. Our server was exceptional. Attentive, professional, and gracious throughout the meal. The service elevated the the mediocre experience. Overall, Peck & Plume offers a beautiful setting and excellent service. For a quieter meal, request the study/library seating. While the food was satisfactory, it did not quite match the charm of the surroundings. Would we go again? Maybe. If we did, we would order different items. But, we would request Brian as the server.

You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The appetizers are all solid, and I'm fairly certain I've taken down an entire guacamole plate on my own before. The Caesar salad is a favorite, and I usually choose between one of their steaks, which has never disappointed. We've also dined with people who have dietary restrictions including gluten-free and vegetarian needs, and the kitchen has always been accommodating. The atmosphere is fun and energetic, and parking has always been easy and convenient, which is a big plus when you're coming in with a group. One small, constructive note from earlier visits is that a couple of servers were newer and less comfortable with wine recommendations. This is completely understandable and didn't detract from the experience, but having a quick backup or simple pairing guidance could make business dinners even smoother. On our most recent visit, I arrived late and the group had already ordered wine, and the selections were excellent. The food was outstanding, the service was seamless, and everything came together beautifully. She was welcoming, attentive, and handled everything smoothly, even as a few more parties came in while she was the only one serving at the time. One thing I really appreciated was that she let us know upfront what items were out of stock before we even looked at the menu. Besides their massive wall of spirits, another component that i appreciated was their inclusive restroom offerings. The door signs are genius! This place looks like it's also great in the evening and late night. They certainly earned a customer in me! Can't wait to go back for more grits!!!!
