This place feels and tastes like home. This might be the best barbecue I have had since going to Eley's Barbecue in Petersburg, Virginia with my daddy when I was about 14-16 years old. We came here two years ago and had the smoked dry rubbed wings. We remembered how good they were and returned for more. I tried the Tex-Mex barbecue bowl. My husband had the pulled pork platter with baked beans and fries. The platters come with hush puppies. I will definitely be getting the pulled pork next time we return. It is so, so delicious. Luckily, there is a Midwood BBQ location in Raleigh, which is only 30 minutes from me. The location itself is located in the busy Raleigh downtown area, so it may be a little challenging to find parking. If you drive on one of the side streets, there may be paid street parking available. The restaurant itself was spacious with plenty of open seating. I went with an order of the pig out combo to share with the table (brisket, burnt ends, pulled pork, and ribs with fries and mac and cheese on the side). I also tried their version of the quesabirria. Overall, it was a generous amount of food with plenty of leftovers to bring home. I appreciated that there was a generous amount of sauce for the bbq when dining in, as their Midwood sauce is truly something special. I plan to make another trip to Raleigh soon, and when I do, I'll stop by Midwood again for more of the brisket. Pros: Generous portions, reasonable prices. Friendly service. Jalapeño cheese sausage - Do get this it is very good. Burnt ends - skip as they were overcooked get the regular brisket instead. Pulled pork - good- moist Ribs - Fall off the bone (which means they are overcooked) but tender and good flavor. Hush puppies - sweet and crispy - decent Pickles - Good crispy slices - fresh and spicy I had a yelp check in for a free banana pudding and they did not take it off the bill so that was disappointing even tho we talked about it and I opened it up and put it right next to the check went to the bathroom and came back and it was still on the bill. My wife went straight for the brisket. Mrs S is in the zone, she loves the beans and told me the brisket was very moist. My burnt ends, heaven! Fatty little pieces of BBQ goodness topped on top of grits. It's like a hug in my belly. No dessert, it's time to get back on the road. For our date night we decided to check out Midwood Smokehouse. I knew we've come to the right place when we were greeted with the wonderful scent of smokey bbq as soon as we walked in. We were greeted promptly and service was very attentive through our experience. Our server was amazing and knowledgeable with her recommendations. You could clearly see that the staff were very focused on customer satisfaction and teamwork with multiple people including managers checking in on us. Sanitation is also top notch. When they cleaned the tables next to us, they also sanitized the seats AND they wiped down ALL the condiment at the table including the tops. I've honestly never have seen places do that & it is one of my biggest pet peeves to come across a crusty ketchup bottle. Food - The brisket is to die for! It is flavorful and melt-in-your-mouth tender. Ribs, burnt ends, and the chicken were also delish. The 'well fed" platter was more than enough for 2 to share as you could see.
